This ring is trash, 5 STR > 5 Attack. If it was 10 attack than maybe.

The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.
If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.

Maybe for jobs that already have a high attack like DRK or DRG, but for DD jobs with a low attack rating (ahem, THF...), this ring is better than the STR.

STR raises your potential damage, attack raises your potential to HIT the damage cap. In the case of THFs, having attack equip instead of STR allows us to hit higher in our damage range (generally 15-30 w/o crits) with less hits on the low end (0-15). 0 damage gives 0 tp, and 0 tp takes away our main damage output; SATAWS.

So yes, for heavy DD jobs, this ring is junk compared to some others (victory ring, etc), but for THFs, this is a great ring if used in the right equip sets.

And I do feel the need to point out that the common STR+5 rings are at 72, where this ring is equippable at 42. The comparison that should be made here is the STR+3 ring (Puissance Ring). I'm not even sure if there's a ring that's obtainable by low-to-mid lvl players (<42) that gives more than 3 STR, not to mention a ring pre-72. My knowledge there is lacking, I'm afraid, so if there IS a ring that does that then I guess I just put my foot in my mouth. ^^

Wow that was wierd...first it didn't post, then I copy/paste what I wrote, and it posted twice (only hit submit once...).

Then when I went to edit it to say double post, it wanted me to edit the ORIGINAL post...the one I replied to.... I hope the admins see this and make sure that if it's a bug that it gets fixed. I can see that being really bad if it happens regularly.

And just so no one's confused...double post.

I am from Fairy and i think the price is some where near 200k, I THINK. I KNOW at one point in time it got up to 800k, and i kicked myself in the *** cuz 5 were in stock at one time for 5k each. That could have been a quick 795k!!

Use with sushi

The best use of this ring is to use it with Sushi. Before the big food patch, attack used to be a stat that wasn't worth raising. The reason for that was that every melee used to eat Meat Mithkabobs, which would give us a huge Attack bonus. This was in addition to the fact that most non-WAR melees subbed WAR, giving them access to Berserk - a huge Attack buff. As such, adding even more Attack from equipment had very minimal effects, and wasted a slot that was desperately needed for boosting Accuracy.

But with the new food options, it has become very popular to use sushi instead of meat dishes. That's great, as long as the total food/equipment/job abilities and traits package is well planned out. It's important to be able to hit the mobs, but it's equally important to actually deal significant amounts of damage when you hit. Having 100% accuracy is worthless if you're hitting for 0 every time.

As such, effective melees balance their bonuses to Accuracy and Attack. The old standard was to gain Accuracy from equipment, and Attack from food. The new option is to get Accuracy from food, meaning we have to get our Attack from equipment. That's why Attack equipment, such as this ring and a Swordbelt, are now much more popular than they were six months ago.

Wow... you completely missed the fact that both kabobs and sushi are +% not just a flat amount. Not using acc items with sushi will make it run strickly on your natural base dex acc and thus make it alot lower and make you waste a mess of gil on food that is doing less +acc then if you have just eaten a jack-o-lanturn instead

not exactly Dex/2 + combat skill(.9 for every point you can gain at 50+?) in the used weapon, is your acc, so sushi adds a percent of that on to it.

IDK its kind of fun being the blm and doing more dmg than a sushi+acc drk by significant amounts :P

Truly a balanced char can make such impressive numbers. I am not sure about 5 atk from a ring @42 (i might think the +3 str ring, but im taru..) but im sure someone has tested it and can say if it helps or not.
quit using fookin dex rings idiots
# May 03 2005 at 5:21 PM Rating: Default
yeah this new attack thing comes from the fact that no one at lvl 42 is anywhere near there attack cap, and seeing as how thats what str is used for in the higher levels, attack >> str for quite a while after lvl 42.

hence this ring is the best ring you can equip for damage untill you get closer to your attack cap and need the str.

this ring doesnt cost 500k for nothing.
hmmm

well i happen to wear one and it does make a difference but not sure if its better than just wearing duel +dex rings. +str is over rated IMO. if youre melee go with DEX.
forget it

If this was +10 Attack then I'd wear it. +20 Attack would be worth sacrificing +8 DEX, but +10 Attack is not worth +8 DEX.

Actually, STR raises the maximum value of your attacks, attack determines where within your damage spectrum your attacks will fall. Though I agree, this is kind of pointless, you would be better off with an Accuracy ring, 5 Atk doesn't do much.

I'm not completely sure about this. I'm a 55 tarutaru red mage who is quitting the game soon, so I decided to randomly buy gear I really shouldn't have as RDM. I got 2 Sun Rings (STR+6 total) and a Valkyrie's Mask (ATK+7) first, using Wise Wizard's Anelace (ATK+14) as my weapon. I don't have anything when it comes to strength, and my attack naturally sucks too. So I went out onto Batallia Downs and attacked a gob smithy. With all the gear on I was hitting him in the low 70s to upper 60s pretty consistantly. I killed him and found another. this time I swapped out sun rings for aquamarine rings (MND+3) and smacked it around. All of a sudden I was hitting from 35 to 75, any regularity was gone. Now, I put back on my sun rings and remove my valk mask, find another gob smithy, and smack him some. My damage was down to 65-70, but it was regular again.
Thus concludes one crazytaru's experimentaru. . . or does itaru?

Well attack only raises the maximum amount of damage you can do in one hit... surely STR is better or DEX for criticals and normal hit rate?
Is it worth it?
# Mar 16 2005 at 1:17 AM Rating: Good
This thing doesn't seem all that useful to me.. I'd rather toss a +acc or +str ring in there as a Melee..but there seems to be a new +attack Trend going.. None the less.. this thing is pricy on Fairy.. And Idea where it comes from?

it would be worth it if you doing dnc or /dnc and not doing weapon skills
hitting bigger numbers would mean more gain from samba and not like you are doing weapon skills

and i have to say war/dnc= better then pld
nin/dnc impossible to kill
and pld/dnc with aspir samba would be impossible to kill

pld/dnc is indeed very "hax" and super tough but the samba you want to use is drain samba ii, not aspir samba. You can kill EM and T back to back with no resting and very little use of mp. All your curing comes from /dnc.
Is it worth it?
# Feb 21 2008 at 8:44 PM Rating: Default
ndeed i think that war as /dnc would make a great new tank and would hold hate great with TWO vokes
nin/dnc im still not 100% on but if u can get enough tp to do curaga dance you can get hate pretty fast but a thf is most likely still needed
pld/dnc in terms of partys would need 2 sacrifice some defense for vit and it would still be hard to get hat
pup/dnc (pups can tank it is possible) would make a good healer more then a tank but it is possible this way with evasion bonus

but like you said fighting solo as /dnc is still the best idea but i have to say the new jobs have been the greatest sub job jobs in awhile. /sch is great for rdm that doesnt want to have to have /whm and /blm and /dnc replaces /whm for any melee job that might need to use it (like bst)

and 2 comment on what you said about samba i think that would matter on the race of the player. a taru uses mp mainly to stay alive while a galka use hp so that means for humes they have more of a decision to make if /dnc solo or tanking
