Im a 73 rdm once my stuff in AH sells im going to buy this for sure for rdm/nin soloing purposes. Currently using cardinal vest, which is nice but hey chasuble looks nice and has good mp. For rdm/blm i would highly recommend errant hoppalde how ever you spell it for enfeebling. RDM AF1 warlock tabard is nice too but you can beat +10 int and mnd. Im using this on rdm/nin because i like it...and scorpion harness is just a "bit" expensive.
Hmmm

Read the whole thing bout the chausuble but it still doesnt answer my question as to why Redmages have priest garb. Wouldnt it make more sense to have it for whm? Id prefer some "Fencers Gear" Like a light weight padded body armor with a full mask since we mostly use Bilbo class weapons. Im only 67 right now but im thinking just 2 wear the pants scorp for soloing, and body and errant pants for pty. Int would help with the Enfeebs and Nuking and m. acc. would help with the Lasting power ^^

Well thats just my $.02

Sup sup my fellow Redmage FFXI players. There has been a ton of buy or not to buy questions about this gear. Info going both ways so I decided to test it myself. I tested on 6 Ochu’s using only Fire II – Bind – Sleep. Here are my stats:

Level 72
Elvaan
Redmage

Non-changing gear:

Martial Anelace
Ice Shield
Phantom Tathlum
Warlock’s Chapeau
Spider Torque
Morion Earring (x2)
Wisdom Ring +1 (x2)
Rainbow Cape
Life Belt

Tested gear:

Chasuble - Errant Cuffs - Wise Braconi - Errant Pigaches

Round 1..............Round 2
208..................231
208..................231
231..................231
231..................231
231..................231
231..................231
Total:...............Total:
1340.................1386

Notes:
Round 1 Bind worked like a champ. Round 2 Bind slacked a little but was still better then fully equiped with Errant gear

Errant Houppelande - Errant Cuffs - Errant Slops - Errant Pigaches

Round 1..............Round 2
251..................252
251..................252
251..................126
251..................252
251..................252
251..................252
Total:...............Total:
1506.................1386

Note:
Errant outdamaged Wise but Wise gear's enfebs lasted longer both rounds

Full RDM AF1

Round 1..............Round 2
224..................224
224..................224
224..................224
224..................24 (Ice DMG From Shield)
224..................224
224..................224
224..................200
000..................224
Total:...............Total:
1568.................1570

Note:

Poor old AF1. Good for its time but just got out done. Round 2 my Bind was running out so quick I got hit and the Ochu took ice DMG besauce the time on Bind and Sleep was not up yet (; ;)

So yea the only gear that was changing was the “Body” and “Legs” the rest of the stuff was sold out. The Wise gear did less DMG then the Errant but Bind was lasting a lot longer. Poor old RDM AF1 was beat all around. So in my opinion I would stick to Errant gear if I had to make a choice. Don’t get me wrong. Having your enfebs stick is important but with Chasuble going for 4mil+ and Wise Braconi at 2mil+ (F’en Hades), if it’s a what is better for my buck choice, again I recommend Errant.

I will keep testing and repost once I have the full Wise set.

I love my Wise gear. As a red mage, magic accuracy is everything. . . be it enfeebling accuracy or nukes or anything else.

Hey maybe your right, but if you stick with errant you won't be able to fight aswell as if you had chausble and wise gear. It's my opinion that if you can't melee then it takes away from the total experience of being a rdm.

If you can't macro gear at that level then it takes away from the total experience of being a rdm.

Heh... Gear-swapping- the biggest cause of me curing myself and the original target DYING. My fault that the ******* PLD or NIN (or whatever it was) thought he needed the additional whatever when my Cure IV was coming to save his life, apparently. At least that's what HE sed.

As a 25+ yr Dungeon Master/Game Master of at least 15 different games IRL and a player of countless computer RPGs, the concept of instantly changing anything you're wearing, swinging, shooting, etc., is friggin OBSCENE to me, and I honestly can't believe this game allows, encourages and even REQUIRES it. The japanese must be REALLY fast dressers to get out of full armour and into something else instantaneously...

Still - ya gotta do it to prevail in this silly-*** "game" (and who can REALLY complain about that when those damned Merrows hit you with Strip-ga...)

This set is friggin ugly. Current price for this piece well under 1 mil on Bahamut server. I'll be getting one soon.

1 magic acc = roughly 3-4 skill points. The body ties, or slightly beats out the AF. I use AF hat for MB for more damage, but JSE hat for normal random nukes. Zenith slacks for MP starting out and +4 mnd, then swap out to JSE pants for most enfeebles, then duelist's tights for nukes, the elemental skill off them is better then the +1 magic acc from jse pants... i'de say buy the hat, body, pants. They are awesome if you can use them right. But, equipment swapping is still a must

For all you red mages out there who have this body piece...
What do you think?
Chasuble vs. AF1 Warlock Tabard? Which is better?
(and yes, AF1 looks better, but I mean stat-wise)

Edit: a RDM buddy on another server tested the Chasuble out in comparison to the AF1 Tabard, and enfeebles and elemental spells are landed with less resists than the AF1! So, magic accuracy +5 > Enfeebling +15... :)

Well, I'm going to try it then. I just got Wise Braconi in place of Errant and have enjoyed them for the last 29k exp. Nice part is I even picked up a -1 emnity. Really helps when the whm is resting and you need to toss out a provoke... er a Cure IV.

I'll let you know after I try it. Probably going to give it a shot tonite. =)

I have done HNM fights both on Earth and Sky. The JSE is good for some things, the AF2 great in others, and Crimson can fix the rest. Basically if you want to be well rounded, you will want to atleast get a few of these peices. I have the pants, and I have most of the materials for the body. Just waiting on my friend to lvl Goldsmithing so that he can make it and sign it for me^^. I will only get the body and pants as crimson and AF2 gloves that I have > JSE gloves. Same goes for the crimson boots. I agree, it is just flat ugly, but I have tested out the pants vs errant, and JSE > Errant pants for me. My spells stick better and hit harder, even on Gods.

When did Red Mages become priests of the Holy Church? Read:

"Called in Latin casula planeta or pænula, and in early Gallic sources amphibalus, the principal and most conspicuous Mass vestment, covering all the rest. Nearly all ecclesiologists are now agreed that liturgical costume was simply an adaptation of the secular attire commonly worn throughout the Roman Empire in the early Christian centuries. The priest in discharging his sacred functions at the altar was dressed as in civil life, but the custom probably grew up of reserving for this purpose garments that were newer and cleaner than those used in his daily avocations, and out of this gradually developed the conception of a special liturgical attire. In any case the chasuble in particular seems to have been identical with the ordinary outer garment of the lower orders. It consisted of a square or circular piece of cloth in the centre of which a hole was made; through this the head was passed. With the arms hanging down, this rude garment covered the whole figure. It was like a little house (casula). This derivation is curiously illustrated in the prophetic utterance of Druidical origin preserved in Muirchu's "Life of St. Patrick", almost the oldest allusion to the chasuble and crosier which we possess. Before St. Patrick's coming to Ireland the Druids were supposed to have circulated this oracle:

Adze-head [this is an allusion to the peculiar Irish form of tonsure] will come with a crook-head staff; in his house head-holed [in suâ domu capiti perforatâ, i.e. chasuble] he will chant impiety from his table [i.e. the altar]; from the front [i.e. the eastern] part of his house all his household [attendant clerics] will respond, 'So be it! So be it!'

The fact that at an early date the word casal established itself in the Celtic language, and that St. Patrick's casal in particular became famous, makes the allusion of the "house head-holed" almost certain. We can hardly help being reminded of St. Isidore's definition of casula as "a garment furnished with a hood, which is a diminutive of casa, a cottage, as, like a small cottage or hut, it covers the entire person". In the earliest chronicles some modification seems to have already taken place in the primitive conception of a hole cut in round piece of cloth. The early medieval chasubles were made of a semicircular piece of stuff, the straight edge folded in the middle, and the two borders sewn together, leaving an aperture for the head. From this it will be seen that the chasuble is only a cope of which the front edges have been sewn together. The inconvenience of the primitive chasuble will be readily appreciated. It was impossible to use arms or hands without lifting the whole of the front part of the vestment. To remedy this, more than one expedient was resorted to. The sides were gradually cut away while the length before and behind remained unaltered. Thus, after being first curtailed at the sides until it reached but little below the elbows, it was eventually, in the sixteenth century, pared away still farther, until it now hardly extends below the shoulders and leaves the arms entirely free. While this shortening was still in progress, it became the duty of the deacon and subdeacon, assisting the celebrant, to roll back the chasuble and relieve as far as possible the weight on his arms. Directions to this effect are still given in the "Cæremoniale Episcoporum", where it speaks of the vesting of a bishop (Cæremon. Episc., lib. II, cap. viii, n. 19). Another device adopted in some medieval chasubles, to remedy the inconvenience caused by the drag of the vestment upon the arms, was to insert a cord passing through rings by which the sides of the chasuble could be drawn up to the shoulders and secured in that position. This, however, was rare. The chasuble, though now regarded as the priestly vestment par excellence, was in the early centuries worn by all ranks of the clergy. "Folded chasubles" (planetæ plicatæ), instead of dalmatics, are still prescribed for the deacon and subdeacon at high Mass during penitential seasons. The precise origin of this pinning up of the chasuble is still obscure, but, like the deacon's wearing of the broad stole (stolone)--which represents the chasuble rolled up and hung over his shoulder like a soldier's great-coat--during the active part of his functions in the Mass, it probably had something to do with the inconvenience caused by the medieval chasuble in impeding the free use of the arms.

Of the chasuble as now in common usage in the Western Church two principal types appear, which may for convenience be called the Roman and the French. The Roman is about 46 inches deep at the back and 30 inches wide. It is ornamented with orphreys forming a pillar behind and a tall cross in front, while the aperture for the neck is long and tapers downwards. The French type, also common in Germany and in a more debased form in Spain, is less ample and often artificially stiffened. It has a cross on the back and a pillar in front. In medieval chasubles these orphrey crosses often assume a Y form, and the crosses themselves seem really to have originated less from any symbolical purpose than from sartorial reasons connected with the cut and adjustment.

Like the other sacred vestments the chasuble, before use, requires to be blessed by a priest who has faculties for that purpose. When assumed in vesting for Mass, the act is accompanied with a prayer which speaks of the chasuble as the "yoke of Christ". But another symbolism is indicated by the form attached to the bestowal of the chasuble in the ordination services: "Receive", says the bishop, "the priestly vestment, by which is signified charity.""

It's also interesting to note the reference to Dalmatic (i.e. the infamous and drool inducing Dalmatica) which is, according to Mr. Webster, "The wide-sleeved garment worn over the alb by a deacon, cardinal, bishop, or abbot at the celebration of Mass."

The Chaustable itself isnt that nasty, it almost reminds me of a Musketeer's tunic they wore in the old days of france, cept... a bit leathery looking.

Anyways, I am conistering this on my list of ways to possibly keep the inventory max out down. It has accuracy And Magic accuracy, so the + 1 verson of it rdms with some of their magic casting while meleeing, without having to swap out twice each time.

Who knows? Has anyone even really TRIED using it?
UGLY!!!
