Not To Sound Stupid But Is It Possible to do a BCNM. u get in with 6 ppl than disband an smn these npc an do an alliance to complete the BCNM? its sound stupid but will it work since its like smn a drg or a avatar
RE: um
# Aug 01 2005 at 5:08 AM Rating: Decent
NPC's can only be summoned in Outdoor area's and you lose them when you zone.
So no using them in dungeons or BCNM's unfortunatly.

Hmmmmm. I do wonder if they are useable in Exp. Forces or Garrisons, those are in outdoor area's. Has anyone tried that?

No, this won't work. NPC fellows can only be summoned in certain areas of the game, and even though I haven't tested it, I doubt that SE would let an exploit like that pass through their fingers.
What I learned
# Jul 22 2005 at 3:27 PM Rating: Decent
Ok here is what I gathered from playing around with the npc and from what I've read. I'm sure the NPC's do have bugs that make them leave and I'm sure will be fixed in upcoming updates. The first time I got my NPC I made the mistake of clicking on her to talk and she left. Second day I took her out to fight random things in Rolanberry Fields that were pretty strong. About 20 min later she had to leave. I went to check her and she had on new gloves but she hadn't gained a level. Next day I summoned her she stayed out longer but died after 30 min while I decided to let her take some hits to see what happens but I didn't intend to let her die ><. I wish there was a life bar so I could see her HP other than her saying "Ow! That hurts!" BTW, thats a sign she's low on hp... >.> After her death I went to the Rendevous Point and she was same level but lost her new armor. If they die they lose their armor... but there was a new menu to choose in the list. I was able to change her fighting style so I changed it to healing since I really didn't want her tanking Mobs 20 levels higher than she was >.>. I haven't tried exping with her yet and will soon. So from what I've heard, keep fighting with them some each day. They get stronger and stay out longer. Eventually you get to change their jobs they play. Good luck to everone enjoying this, I know I am.
The NPC Stuff
# Jul 22 2005 at 12:02 PM Rating: Decent
The NPC stays out for 45 minutes with a 20 hour recast time. YES if you click on him/her, they will leave unless you click them once again shortly after. After about roughly 100 hours, the NPC gains 2 new "jobs" wich you can select at the Rondevouz point:

"Attack" style
"Healing" style

Its starting level is 30 and it gains 70% of EXP from each battle you have while it is out.

You can only summon your NPC in one area. Once you zone, it leaves.

Thats all I have for now. Try doing skillchains with these guys. Hehehe.

Link? Or a list of the people to talk to??
# Jul 22 2005 at 3:06 AM Rating: Decent
Does anyone have a link to the damn thread that had the walkthrough to getting the npc fellow of your choice? It was very detailed, and had easy instructions on how to get the correct face/hair, but I can't find it, because it's lost in a sea of people ******** and moaning about 1000000 different things... please, I'm just trying to do this with some friends, and I want my fellow to be how I want it...

Keep in mind, that when you talk to Luto, you're picking the person who will be your partner. I thought I'd have to actually find this person in Jueno (you don't), so I picked a hume male, Feliz. Not a bad choice, though, but if you want, say, a Mithra, choose a Mithra from Luto's list. ;)

The only problem i see is the 20 hour wait to re-summon the NPC, other than that I think it's really cool that SE let us have a partner to duo with.
I havn't done the quest yet because i'm on vacation so I have no idea what it's like yet. I hear some about the long lines, yesterday my friend waited an hour and a half for the dragon NM.
I think I'm really gonna enjoy doing this quest and everything else that was added on the last update. I think that SE did a decent job on this one.

I don't know how there can be so many posts complaining about the NPC and with posts like "FU SE."

If you don't like the NPC, don't use it, you aren't any worse off than you were before. It isn't any surprise that they didn't give us an item that would instantly make an NPC our level and make killing mobs twice as easy.

So what if you only get it for a short time, basically once a day? It doesn't cost you anything to use. The quest was entirely free, minus the line waiting. If you wait a bit longer to do it, there won't even be lines. On my server the amount of people in the lines has fallen by about half.

If you click on your NPC, you have a few seconds to click on it again and stop it from leaving. It isn't a bug, and having used my NPC, I don't think it is that difficult.

Your NPC can rest with you, it does do damage, it can be cured. I summoned my NPC and used it against some level 67ish mobs and it was actually managing to hit, albeit not too hard. It was doing weapon skills. I don't think it is that bad, especially if you level it up more or use it with a job around level 30 so you're both the same level.

Please try not to get your hair up your **** regarding the NPC character.

Put your hand up if you think you would be able to perfectly implement a major game change in one single update?
If you names aren't Jesus, Buddah or Alah put your hands down and put down the fork you fat arrogant *******!!!

Of course if they chuck this in the works they are going to underpower the NPC. They need to see what players do with it.

There are potential uses or areas they have missed which only real time tests will reveal, so implementing this noobish NPC is the better option.

If they put in this NPC that is practically another PC or some godly addition then they have effectively doubled the potential server population and the beast kingdom is in for a raping as duos roam the land.

Have some patience. I know its alot to ask of some tards who roam these forums.

Ok only question that I haven't seen answered Is what if you are say level 75, you get the quest and I go to like Qulun Dome to fight and I call this guy out. Does he start off at level 5 or whatever ? and I have to level him up ? or does he come out around the same level as you ?
leaving already?
# Jul 21 2005 at 2:27 AM Rating: Decent
ok if you click your npc and he says i should be going you have 15 rl seconds to click on him and he will say something like we have stuff to do,lets get going (feliz) so you can hang out more. they start at lvl 30 and you right now you cant change there style but SE will be putting in quests that you and your npc have to do to change jobs. today i WS and MB with Feliz (npc side kick) no complaints from me i will lvl my summoner with Feliz from 6-10 tomorrow lol. the cool thing is you can heal and buff them unlike pets/avatars/wyverns anytime you want and any level *if you have the spells to do so, and for the healing of non npc companions i mean that you dont have to wait for the skill for the pet (spirit link, healing light, or treats)* no complaints here 4-5 people saw me today with Feliz and 2 people saw me ws and mb with him. note about this you need to know ws chains and watch for npc to start...if you get lucky they will finish it without mb.

i dont see why anyone should be mad at SE for the amount of time the NPC stay's, it isn't like they had to put this in. what you play for how many years without a pearl and all of a sudden you they give one and it's just another thing to complain about? grow up if you dont like it just toss it. people have better things to read about than your stupid complaints.lol you say fu SE? im sure SE says **** you right back- directed at keith the great.

-oh yeah Milbereth, guild wars let's you have more than one hench men? oh thats cool but i doubt anyone cares, that has nothing to do with FFXI, i got an idea, keep playing guild wars then you can play with all the "henchmen" you want. End Rant

yeah I used this and summoned my npc then i made the mistake of trying to talk to her she asked if it was time to go, I canceled the dialogue and she stopped following, i tried to talk to her again then she said she had to go. Its a nice idea but it needs work, first if i have to wait 20 hours i dont want her to leave if i zone, secondly i dont want her to leave unless i tell her to. and finally i dont want to wait a fricking 20 hours for a recast, what if i decide to just move to another area? thats it? no more npc for the day? what a rip! the npc will become more trouble then they're worth
hmm

Well, it sounded sweet at first. I thought I could use it to help solo my drg. Guess not. And everyone is right, the 20hr recast time totally blows. Heh, I thought waiting 2 hours on a wyvern was bad enough. ;>.>

For anyone who has it though:
- Can you customize your NPC?
- If so, how? Face, race, job?
- Tips for the NM?

you chosse your NPC's Race but the Job it default Warrior I think since they have to voked the monsters off you... The equipment changes by there level and I would recomend using this at level 5 so you can one equip it and you only loose 30% exp cut but you get a good fighter... they are at your level and not higher or lower but there gear does change... when he leaves for 20 hours... the Faces is chosen by you but it is all luck of what you get right now... I got a Tarutaru with silver hair tied up in the back. Goodluck on this and have fun... NO CUTTING!

ok the information regarding the quest is on here in a forum somewhere.. I've read it and printed it but am too lazy to find it and type it in.
Here are my questions.
I was not able to start the quest as my main char, Darthyoda but can with my mule, Gevlorien.- Darthyoda - Hero Jeuno fame, lvl 44 whm, Bastokan Tarutaru with rank 3. *switched to Bastok from windy to help lil brother get his rank missions done.. cause I wanted to.
Gevlorien - lvl 5 fame at best in Jeuno, 38 drk, Bastokan Elvaan with rank 5.

Gev was able to get quest when Darth was not.. I want to do this quest.. and cannot.. frustrating after waiting over a day to get in and try.. then find it refuses me.. any help would be appreciated.
RE: requirements
# Jul 21 2005 at 8:43 AM Rating: Decent
ok I got it last night..
I couldnt get it with rank 3... all I did was do mission 3-3 for Bastok, and talk to the Bastok Ambassador to get rank 4.. went immediately to npc and got quest..
I'm fairly certain it requires rank 4 seeing as how I have maxed fame in Jeuno, and was lvl 44 at the time... nothing else has changed other than I finished the 3-3 mission.
hope this helps everyone.

Another totaly F_ing waste of time. So you end up with a henchman, but they can leave at any point in time they want? Plus, a recharge time of 20 hours is just totally ridiculous. This item should be able to be used at any point in time as many times as wanted. Has anyone here ever played Guild Wars? You can have an entire party of Henchmen! But no, with FFXI SE finally let's you have one...but then they F you over by not only letting them leave you at will, but also by making the recast time nearly an entire day! So, its essentially another useless trinket like the santa hat or the bokuto. Another total BS attempt by SE to make you think they've finally did something for your benefit.
NPC leaving...
# Jul 20 2005 at 10:11 AM Rating: Decent
for some reason i think they only leave after 30 mins of no activity, but if you keep fighting, they stick around longer. after getting mine this morning, i walked into batillia downs, and was messing around. was fighting gobbys and tigers for about 20 mins with my LS, then desided it was time for sleep. walked to the zone, but stayed in batillia down, and sat down with my NPC. about 30 mins later they said something a long the lines of "It has been a while, and i must be going".
lol?

I called my NPC the first time and after 30 seconds he left for some reason >_< dont know why He said something like "we got nothing to do, i leave"

Now i have to wait 20HRS lol....

Got mine last night at around 2am CST. It's a capped battle at lvl 40, so be sure to have the right equipment on. I (whm) was never in any type of trouble at all during the battle, it was almost too easy. Thanks to Tessius for helping me kill the NM in Eldieme Necropolis, you rock dude.

I fought a Sabertooth tiger in the area outside that was 'easy' that did more damage to me that the skelly did, and the skelly lasted a while because he drained the health from like 10 people 3/4 of the way through his health bar and was full again
