With the recent patch and the new harvested items, I decided to try and see if I could get them to cook some bst jugs. With the harvest earring equipped and field gear I obtained 3 skull locust in west saruta in about 30 min. Then I proceded to Giddeus for the king locust and got 2 of them in a row within the first few minutes of harvesting. I was thinking that these must be pretty easy items to harvest since I didnt have trouble getting them. However, it seems from reading other posts that these are actually rare items. I also didnt break one sickle during that whole session.
I know that this doesnt constitute evidence, but I feel that this earring has a hidden effect that boosts harvesting results.
I've always wondered why this ring is so rare (only 5 unique sold on AH). Maybe this is why.
Theoretical boost in harvesting results aside, the reason this ring is rare is that getting the NM that drops it to pop is a Mother^&%(* with a capital M.
Wow, that's all I can say. A lazy thief wears this instead of Drone earring ? Are you dumb ?? Drone is 30k, Harvest is 1.9-2mil on my server. Let me get this straight, a lazy thief wears a 2mil earring instead of a 30k one. This earring is one of VERY FEW earrings that give dex. Adroit earring, Pixie earring, and Intruders earring are ones that come to mind. Agi is good for Thf but it dosen't modify sata near as much as dex, not to mention Shark Bite is directly modified by dex. I have this earring, and am damn proud.
wonder why no one has mentioned this yet, this can be a good earring for a mnk to use to build MND for chi blasting. 'specially if the NM can be soloed and the earring easily dropped. i'd camp for this rather than pay like 2mil+ for the other MND earrings. at least i'd have 1 ear slot taken care of.
This item is really only good for a melee RDM. For WHMs, Geist Earring gives +1 MND and +5 MP. THF/NIN can use Genin Earring which gives +4 AGI. Other THFs can use Drone Earring which gives +3 AGI.
I just don't see the point unless you're a melee RDM in which case you need all 3 of the stats.
There is no point for this on a rdm melee, since they don't even melee in partys, were not allowed, unless your solo'ing, when I'd rather wear an MP earring.
"MIGHT" be good for a lazy THF = Highly doubtful, since it IS good for a thf at any level past this, What other earring you know gives DEX + AGI?
Your kidding right? A single dex and mnd can in no way compare to the 2 to 3 agi your losing. I say lazy thf because if they were poor and didnt have enough for a drone earing they could get this.
Its one dex and one agi, so it definately better than the wing earring (definately noticed a lil more dmg from one point of dex than 1 point of agi on my sata when i was figureing out which rings to buy for it). As for better then a drone earring, couldnt say. I do know that alot of dagger ws are based off dex though so might effect your ws dmg more than your base sata dmg. Don't know for sure. Unless your a mithran thf with that super duper "wow i cant believe your dex" it might be worth seeing if it helps more. Heck even as a mithran it might be a good thing to check -_^ cant get to much of a good thing.
lazy thf? how the hell do u get to 49 for the ring and not have 20k-30k for a drone ring >< i farm bee chips and have 3 stacks b4 1 hour with only using a 28thf ....u wont see me using it.

Posted:Aug 28 2005 at 11:40 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) RDM don't melee? what are you talking about? I'm 51 RDM and I melee in every pty i'm in! if the other people dont like it they can find another red.
But... even though Red Mage is a "MAGE", if you don't put the melee part to use you miss out on a distinct facet of the job. There's very few earrings that add stats at any reasonable reasonable level, besides a few earrings that tend to be expensive for that reason. I don't really melee anymore in xp, since I spend more time switching staves for debuffs and bursts, especially in my static.
I also was rdm/thf, back in the day when it was my only job that was sub-able level, and it didn't work half-bad, but i changed to a magical sub after that to be "normal". But I've seen stranger combinations, and ones that didn't work nearly as well, and those people still got invites. So, if you're having fun with the job combo, why not do it?
At this level, if you're not meleeing your rdm, you're slowing the pt down. I subbed thf to my rdm until level 60, AND I did it successfully, never had a party complain, after the initial grumbles at invite. I even had several JP pt's congratulate me on a job well done, as if they were blown away that an rdm could do the job right and well without a mage sub. However, after 60 is a different story. I don't know if it's my mostly inexpensive equip (with one or two nice pieces of gear), or just the overall balance of mob power, but for me, rdm melee ability dropped drastically after 60. I tried just about every melee sub to see if I could balance this, (just look at my jobs below >.>;) but no joy. In PT, I just can't melee for $#!+ now. {/cry} As for soloing, ok well I'm mithra, don't need the 1 dex, and when I solo I usually use 2 drones, for evasion and bow accuracy. I can't really see 1 dex and 1 mnd making as much difference as 3 agi given up from the one drone. If you're soloing, the most you could normally handle if you fight melee style is EM, which, especially if you have life belt on, you should have no trouble hitting or sticking debuffs to. At best, I think this earring would really only be useful to any non mage job subbing whm for soloing. With the gimped healing and enfeebling magic, the +1 mnd can help at that point.
Hmm... high lvl n00b sighted! Rofl she had to wait to 60 to notice that rdm are MAGES... <main> <healing magic> <do you have it> THF ? <Thanks for the offer, but i'll have to pass>

For someone who, according to your tag, doesn't even have a job over 40, and whose rdm is only 25, you shouldn't cast aspersions on how others play. Unlike some, I don't follow the crowd, as a rule, and I am able to play the game both for fun and play it well imho. Yes, it was hard to get invites with melee sub, but once the party got started the PT's were more than happy with me. And, for your information, RDM's are not strictly mages, they are, by definition, warrior-mages. This in no way makes us DD's, but we are FAR more than a "tp factory for mobs". It's simply a matter of the game's mechanics that RDM melee capability drops dramatically after 60, because mobs become relatively stronger. I even admitted rdm melee drops, so in order to best serve my pt's I started subbing mage. Personally I feel the rate-down was ill-deserved just because I stated my playing style, and I reiterate that if you're not meleeing your rdm, even with mage sub, in the lower levels, then you're slowing your PT down. Why else you you think RDM get's the en- spells. that extra 8-20 dmg per hit adds up over time, and even if your weapon is hitting for 0 thanks to def boosts, you're still doing dmg. When you can keep a PT going for 4 hours straight with absolutely 0 downtime with refresh, convert, and WITH a melee sub, then come talk to me about how to play rdm.
Further, I take offense to being called a n00b in this context. Referring to me as a high level "newb" would have been more appropriate within the realm of your obvious lack of experience or game skill. You however, are a n00b who needs to learn to let others play how they choose without judgement. I've seen a galka whm/nin do better in CN than some taru whm/smn's, so how about you don't tell me what jobs not to sub and I won't tell you not to be such a conformist, mmm'k? thankyou buhbye.
P.S. to all, any rate-downs on THIS post will be accepted without comment, I know I probably deserve it for bordering on flaming, but I won't change it.
Well i am a 65 RDM and although melee isnt that great anymore, i can still do some decent damage while keeping up refreshes/debuffs. I sub nin in many PT settings and i do get some **** also till they see what i can do, I finally got my dagger capped and using the hornetneedle(150 delay) and another low delay dagger with a good en- spell, i basically never stop swiniging, and the + damage from enspell alone adds up. I still play the mage in some PTs but it really depends on the other members, so to all of you who say rdm cant melee, you dont know what you are talking about. It does take more finess to pull it off but it is by no means impossible and does not hurt the PT in anyway. You can tell me that i am wrong for all i care but i have been playing since NA release on PS2 and i know whats up, so fellow RDMs dont let a few ppl who dont know the job tell you that you cant melee.
Like i said, different PT different strategies, but thanks for stating your oppinion the way you did. There is no 1 "correct" way to play the game, thats what makes it so interesting

Wow, I'm really confused HOW is this NOT a good item??? What else can you get in ear slots that would be better than this? I mean a thf can use for dex and agi, whm for mnd, pld mnd and agi and dex. RDM for melee and curing. Theres so many uses, atleast thats what I think
