They're used in upgrading Ranger AF2, So, they are gotten by people intending to upgrade their pieces, or if they have ranger friends, which is why some people buy stacks, others are just weird and like to buy rare looking cloth =P
...and what is hunter's cotton for
# Jun 27 2006 at 7:05 PM Rating: Decent
so I see all this stuff about leveling cloth working, doing silk, and making cotton, but what the hect is hunter's cotton used for?
gil for time
# Jun 03 2006 at 9:55 AM Rating: Decent
Hunter's Cotton is cheaper to make than Green Ribbons. About 40-50k less per stack actually. The only downside is: While silk cloth is plentyful, Carapace Powder is rarely found in the AH and if you try to make it yourself you will soon find out that the Beetle Shell supply isn't quite what you hoped for either.

So, in conclusion, you'll save lots of gil but it will take twice as much time. Most likely even more.

If you dont have bonecraft to 21, my suggestion would be to lvl bonecraft from 15-21 with the Carapace Powder receipe (wind, 2X beetle shell). This way, you can save some money by making your own Carapace Powders, get bone to 21, AND have a readily avilable supply of one of the ingredients for this synth.

and btw, this synth rocks in comparison to the green ribbon. Much less gil lost ^^
Cotton thread

Cheap source of Cotton Thread:

Cotton Kyahan from the tenshodo HQ 2500
desynth for:
NQ - 7 cotton thread
HQ1 - 8 cotton thread
HQ2 - 9 cotton thread
HQ3 - 1 linen thread (doesnt happen very often)

I personally farm my own beetle shells in CN, they have a very high drop rate from the blazer beetles.

Thanks man! This was a life saver.

I have made some notes of my desynths:

The lowest price I've got is 2528 gil (this could be fame related though) and so far my best results has been on lightsday facing south west. I got 56 cotton thread from 12 cotton kyahans doing that.

This desynth saved me a ton of gil on cotton threads. I highly recommend it.

I noticed someone said "do not make these" and their reason being the what you can make back on them. I have made many items, where I would just sell off to an NPC anyway cause I needed room and they weren't selling.

My adive would be to go ahead and make these. The cap is 1 lvl higher than Green Ribbons, but they are easier to make, and I see more skill ups more often, than with the silks. You might not get good money back, but you're also no spending a fortune on silks, or spending ages trying to farm the silks or cocoons.

I`ve notice a few stacks of Hunter`s Cotton sold recently on Asura.
Therefore, I assume there is some use for it?
Thanks for any assistance!

Please do not make these assuming that you can gain back any more than the 209 gil each an NPC will offer you. There is almost no market for them, as anyone high enough to need one probably has a clothcrafter buddy who will make it for him.
I have made 3 stacks of these now, using 3.5 stacks of carapace powder and 10 stacks of cotton thread and raised my clothcrafting skill 2.4 levels (55.5 - 57.9). The skillups seem rather slow and sporadic, but the material cost is far less than silk cloth, especially if you're prepared. Personally, I clear the AH of Beetle Shells and Goblin/Moblin Armors, turning the shells in to carapace powder, and the armor into cotton threads. This brought my bonecrafting up to 21, and I tend to save money on the cotton threads. Also, buying them from the Selbina Guild is very effective, and I've been doing that while I take a few jobs thorugh Valkurm. Even doing this, the cotton threads are harder to come by cheaply than the beetle shells. I intend to get level 58 and have a 2x GP day (Turn in GP items to cap, change rank, do it again), then take it slowly again.

when i craft these, i lose about 150k for every stack of 12... if i lost all of them (actually even if i have all successes it shouldnt make much of a diff XD)

anyway, with silk cloths i lose about 230k if i fail all of them, so these are way better than sil on fenrir
Hmm

No it doesn't :)
You can start making these for skill ups at around level 55 Clothcraft. The break rate is not that bad.
hope so

since they are stackable they are probobly gonna be apart of a new recipt in an update or even the expansion. it only takes one thread for the af+1 and only 5 for the complete set, there is no other logic why it is stackable if it wasn't gonna be used for further recipts. this is what im counting on anyway have about 5 stacks froms skilling up, and these things are a ***** to sell.
if you sell them to npc u loose about 4k in materials. sure its still cheap but i dont wana sell to npc then find out that its up to 50k a stack after the next update.

Mystery Tour has it listed that Hunter's Cotton is one of the items used to get Hunter's Beret +1.

You can get the Hunter's Beret +1 by trading the following to Port Jeuno NPC "Sagheera":

- Hunter's Beret
- Chameleon Yarn
- Charcoal Cotton
- Hunter's Cotton
- Ancient Beastcoin x25

kill either pygamois in tharongi canyon or harvestin giddeus.

1 lightning > 2 saruta cotton = 1 cotton thread.

The Guild Shop sells them for like 750-ish each when the price is maxed. If you're quick enough, you can camp the shop and buy at least 6 of them.

You could also desynth Goblin/Moblin Armors with a lightning crystal. You could harvest or buy Saruta Cotton and make them. Or just buy the threads from the Auction House, which would be the most expensive way, but quickest/easiest.
RE: Break, Break.....
# Oct 30 2005 at 2:24 PM Rating: Decent
since on fairy the price of sartuta cotton is absurdly high (like 2 x the price of the thread or some stupid crap like that, idk the exact) I usually <steal> it from Mandragora... Tiny Mandragora will only give you 2 leaf buds but the bigger ones in sarutabaruta, as well as the ones in the canyon and bubu all have cotton thread to steal. I started as a lvl 30 thf and I miss maybe 1/10 times. Only sucky part is you have to wait over an hour to steal a whole stack, but if you harvest while you do it then you can get materials pretty quick and cheap.

I asked my LS the other night and someone mentioned it's use for AF+1 gear. My guess would be Ranger >.>

Edit: Looked up sailcloth and someone claimed it's use was for thf AF upgrades. Would be worth finding the other AF upgrade items to get a market going.

It seems to have little purpose at the moment other than skilling up.

Maybe it will be used in armour for future updates (blue mage armour maybe)

Im wondering weather you could make a profit by selling it to a NPC (will have to try it later)at least it would be less of a loss than making green ribbons.

Maybe it has something to do with high Agi buffers on things made with it. That is all I can add to your collection of thoughts.
