the cape battle
# Dec 11 2007 at 1:08 AM Rating: Decent
Shadow mantle is not always the best to tank in. boxer wins if your soloing, exp party. valor wins on hnms while /nin tanking. shadow can be used while /war over valor. gigant wins for max hp set(for spirits only).
valor wins for /war or /nin kiting.

for those with Aegis i think that shadow or valor could be mained due to Aegis capping shield proc rates without skill+

there is no one peice of equip for pld in any slot except Aegis ofcourse D:

if you have any intrest of not sucking you will macro each peice in for each situation and please dont main 1 mantle (or anything for that matter) for everything, you may not feel stupid or gimp but you are in the eyes of any experienced pld.

This is purchased with ancient beastcoins, which drop in Limbus. You must have access to Limbus (which means access to sea) for the NPC that sells this to speak to you.

Out of curiosity, can armor pieces, requiring only coins, be picked up outside of sea through an NPC, like one in Jueno, or do you have to go into sea/Limbus and trade the coins for the items? I don't have sea/Limbus yet but would really like to get this and Brutal ASAP.

Just found out the NPC will NOT talk to you if you don't have sea access yet ><

Ive used it on pld now for both end-game and exp and I would defently suggest this to any pld whos crazy on Shield+. The evasion and parry is also very noticable exp and solo. It's 75 Coins.

plainly depends on what u are and what u fight.

Like every 2nd RDM runs around in a scorpion harness. . .a total crappy choice. . .a RDM75 has 210 evasion cap, 10 more or less won't help evading anything (THF or NIN have like 300+).

Now a boxer's on a RDM with his sucking eva, parry and shield cap. . .you won't see any real difference fighting VT monsters. . .but fighting weaker mobs this does show some effect because at a certain (mob) lvl this +10 skill will change your relative cap rating alot.

On the other hand a THF or NIN 75 won't see any difference using the boxer's when fighting EP or TW mobs. The basic cap is plainly too high to have something like that effect it (consider fighting a lvl60 mob, the A cap for lvl60 is 200 skill, a THF or NIN 75 would already have 300, aka already 100 bonus, 10 more or less won't effect that too much). Fighting a lvl 70ish mob on the other hand, the A cap rating is ur actual base skill. So any +skill would count.

If u can't follow, compare the skill to HP and SMG. If ur THF75 does 1k dmg (=your base eva) to a lvl30 mob which has 800 HP (compare to kinda acc rating), it doesnt matter if u do 200 dmg more or less (aka 10 eva more). But if you do this 1k dmg (=base eva) to a lvl70 mob with 5k HP (= acc rating), every bit of bonus dmg will start to count.

I think...
That the accuracy on SH might also have something to do with why rdm's where it to solo...
I mean I'm just taking a stab in the dark there.
RE: wow
# Jul 14 2006 at 12:34 PM Rating: Decent
Umm.. mathematically, 10 more evasion is a larger percentage of the whole of 210, rather than 300, so technically it would make more of a difference
RE: wow
# Oct 24 2006 at 2:25 AM Rating: Decent
I believe it is based on your skill vs mob's skill. when you say its technically more difference at 210 your comparing the score to skill level 0.The mob isnt skill 0 though.

An IT exp Mob at endgame probably attacking you with a weapon level of 305:
A paladin with A+ shield:

305-276 = -24

305-286 = -14
Thats a 41% decrease on your defeciet

If Shield was base 210 (ick)

305-210 = -95
305-220 = -85
Thats an 11% decrease on your defeciet

If mob was low level and attacking with weapon level 200, then yes, there would be more % change to your bonus over the mob if your skill was 210

I wonder if the above poster knows A+ skill caps are 276? I doubt it, and +10 skill is really useful.

I've had my Boxer's Mantle for quite a while now and I'm very happy with it. It's fantastic for NIN, and very nice for my PLD as well.

I would agree that it's not as useful for PLD though -- Evasion and Parry are quite low for a PLD even when capped, and +10 still doesn't push the numbers to an especially high level. The +Shield is nice though, and Evasion and Parry may not be enormously helpful but are certainly a decent improvement nonetheless. I would use a Boxer's Mantle over anything but a Valor Mantle, and *maybe* a Gigant Mantle on a very few mobs.
Valor cape?

PLD's......... u can begin to ******.... lol sorry but this is probably best mantle for PLD's considering we have shield skills, parrying skills, and evasion skills... Ninjas can also enjoy this for evasion and parrying, and monks can enjoy this for guarding and evasion... but in all PLD would best benefit from this especially in XP parties cause all in all vitality+ is good but 3 stats +10 skill is better, more misses, more parrying, more shielding WOOOOOT

I would say this was a better cape for ninja tanking than paladin.

This is also an exceptional cape for Mnk/nin soloing. with a mnk B+ evasion skill, not many know that a monk make a fomidable solo agent when parred with shadows high evasion counter and guard

i think i'd disagree. I know a lot of NINs that would much rather use DD back pieces. but as a 75 PLD, i would still have a hard time choosing between this and the valor cape. i guess it all depends on what your tanking, but having the valor cape would definately make me feel better

Valor Cape seems to be better for PLD. This cape looks like it was designed to open up the options for alternative tanking.
