i dont have blm leveled to 75 so i cannot say for sure what the advantage to having conserve mp +5 would be like. most blm's i know that have gotten the static earring have said they regret not choosing this one. they have all said the same thing in regards to how often they actually get to magic burst over the number of times they would have benefited from conserving more mp while playing solo. maybe some blm's could elaborate on the difference in their magic bursts with the static earring and/or relic gloves. if the difference is less than 100 dmg i would think this earring is more beneficial.

This earring is pretty decent for a max MP build and for some hMP - though there are plenty other options, such as Antivenom or Relaxing. The SIRD can occasionally be helpful when casting Utsusemi or other buffs.

For all you blm's out there that are sceptical about getting the static just do it. Unless you have multiple mage jobs that will benefit from this earring static is so much better unless ur one of the lucky ones who wield moldy/novio >< If u have that combo then i guess ur set and dont need the static. To tell you the truth any blm who gets this imo has made a mistake because for a blm this earring is just a macro earring for resting. Unless ur a blm that just dosent care about dmg and is going for the mp build, Then be my guest and get it, but as many people have already said the conserve mp on it isnt that great anyway. O and the people who think Af2 hands can be swapped for static, they both have mab +6 on burst and yes they stack. So u do the math.....

MAB vs MPconserve
# Mar 27 2006 at 12:46 PM Rating: Decent
MAB is definately better for your ego if you are a blm and I think that I would pick a MB over a conserve earring. But.... conserve should not be downplayed at all. I read alot that conserve only conserves only 3% mp in the long run and similiar stuff that may be the case in bards and white mages. When it comes to my lvl 74 blm I say that my mp conserve+7 (weskit and af2 feet) save me an enormous amount of mp. I gladly gave up my river gaiters (int3,mind3,mp+35) to wear my af2 full time(int2,mp+17,conserve+5) because the conserve is really that much better then the little xtra int, mind, and mp, it really is.

I have had many 300 spells cost only 200. 1 out of 5 times I would say is about the amount that mp conserve kicks in, and for blm that has a regular job ability for mp conserve the 1/5 saving can be rather big I have seen. I have saved up to around 200 mp in single xp battles in several occasions, mostly saving atleast 20-100, and rarely saving nothing in a round. Since I already have some good conserve though I would say at that I would definately consider the MB if i had the choice, blm DD is key...

but this earring looks like mp heaven to me

Yes, Conserve MP is great. However, Conserve MP +5 does not multiply the effect by 5. It gives a tiny, tiny bonus to it. Check the BLM forum for tests. The general cosensus is that Conserve MP +5 is only about 2.5% more MP saved over the long run, which is insignificant.

This earring is great for a lot of jobs, but BLM is not one of them.

By itself, you're absolutely right, its insignificant, but match it with all the other conserve gear that is out now AND is usually already on some of the best high end items, it adds up quick and it adds to a lot, making it even more powerful and no where near "insignificant." If this was to be the only thing on a blm that had conserve mp, then yeah, dont bother, and get the other earring. Personally im getting this and the Luqocious. That's a combination of 50 mp on EARRINGS that is NOT traded for hp, giving fastcast, conserve mp, & mp healing + which to me is definately much more worth it.

But also, I rarely am in parties as blm, and mostly solo, duo, trio. So this earring is 400x better for me and my style of play vs the other. I get plenty of damage as is with gear I have, so the MB difference isn't going to play much more of a role then what I already have and is just overkill fireworks that, while might look cool to point at and say wow with all your friends, will not do much more than that and prolly get you more hate than you bargained for anyway. ( damn ... what a run-on)

Why I chose this

Depends on your character really.

I chose this earring mainly because I have multiple mage jobs out there, like rdm, blm and brd lvled to 75.

So this earring is kinda more multi-purpose imo. All jobs that use mp in some way benefit from it, probably benefits blu, and maybe pup too!

That is why I chose it. However, if I am a blm addict, I will probably choose the MB one, which I am not. ;p

Without getting into the rest of the debate, I would be interested to see if the conserve mp +5 from this earring makes up for the lack of /blm for a whm. If it does, or it gets close, then whm/smn might become a more viable combination for many exp parties where you don't need /blm for reasons like escape, sleep, tractor, etc...

Same goes for rdm/whm instead of /blm; for stuff like monk parties where the rdm defnitely should be subbing whm, this earring could go a long way toward better mp management.

I do find it hard to see too many blms getting this, though. Yes, you can only use the static earring on bursts, which makes it somewhat limited in usefulness, but in order to use the magnetic you pretty much have to use it all the time, which means you lose the 2 INT from an abyssal, or whatever else you would use. Blms tend to care more about damage on demand than damage over time and mp management, so even though the static may not be spectacular, you could macro it in for extra burst damage, instead of using this all the time and losing the INT. Of course, 2 INT doesn't really make much difference in power anyway, but it is true that every little bit helps.

I don't have one (yet, cause I'm stuck on the last BC for now...), but from the looks of things this earring is also a godsend to bards.

I agree with just about everything the above poster stated. However, any blm that knows their job should know that 2 INT isn't even worth getting as an earring. I personlly got the ninja earring from divine might (cause the abyssal is simply utterly useless), so that would cancel out having to swap the abyssal for magnetic. The Static that everyone is talking about, jus as the above poster said could easily be replace by the relic hands. The opportunity to make use of that earring as an end game blm is so close to never that it's pretty much worthless/pointless. (i'm sure I'll get flamed out the *** by all the blm's that is "OMG INT AND MB IS WHAT BLM NEEDS TO GO FOR ALWAYZ TO BE UBERL337Z")

Magnettic earring is definately by far the best earring piece out of those 3 to get for blm's that are 72+ and ESPECIALLY those blm's that participate in end-game events. Being in end game as a blm is all about mp conservation, utilizing mp the most efficient possible way, and getting the most bang for your buck out of ALL your mp, not one single spell. the damage over time ratio for you're entire mp gauge needs to be factored against your damage per spell to find the most optimal between the two to make you the most efficient you can possibly be.

PS for all the "I wanna be uber" Blm's, they need to go to the job forums and check out the "Arcane Tomb of Doom" sticky for blm's. You'll find that INT isn't all that its cracked up to be. blm's need to find a happy medium between all the blm boosters, not go all out on one. Please keep in mind that I am speaking from the blm point of view as endgame. My personal opinion: Elemental Magic Skill > Magic Attk Bonus > Conserve MP > MP > INT > Magic burst + > all other blm skills.

Not everyone only does manaburns.

Have you ever actually tested Conserve MP+5? It equates to about 2-3% MP saved in the long run. That's insignificant.

This earring is not useful to BLM main or anyone subbing BLM. At least not nearly as useful as Static.

And what's that crap about endgame BLM not magic bursting? Do you never fight Fafhogg, Ouryu, Bahamut, sea jailers, etc? BLMs in good endgame linkshells magic burst all the time.

Being both RDM and BLM... i can easily say that i will get this over static.

I just don't MB all that often anymore. The simple fact of the matter is that the slight damage increase i might get once a week or so on BLM with static is greatly overshadowed by the amazing amount of utility i would get out of this earring on both BLM AND RDM EVERY SINGLE DAY.

If you solo(and burn) xp on BLM and do other stuff on RDM and don't get a chance to burst very often... this earring is for you.

If, on the other hand, your a die hard BLM who does a lot of HNMs and is often bursting, static will make you happy... especially now that the new lvl2 AM is out.

I feel most sorry for the people who fall somewhere in between and will have to suffer massive mental anguish over this decision.

Yes, assuming your a Black Mage. Theres also the fact that the Static earring doesn't help at all in manaburn or any free nuke (i.e. a non-burst).

Static earring is effectively a Moldavite that only works only very specific circumstances.

Soooo. I took the extra Conserve MP, raw MP, MP while healing and spell interruption down of this earring here over the static.

But then again. I like throwing more spells more than I like putting up a big flashy number now and again.

RE: How...?

No. You don't want this. At all. It's a great earring, but in addition to taking ~5-6 months to beat all the prerequisites(less if you already did most of them), the beating the final battle, you have a choice similar to the Divine Might one. And if you chose this earring, that means you gave up Static Earring. If you give up Static Earring for BLM then, well, your a

(_DUMB_|_ASS_)

No, you do not want this earring.
RE: How...?
# Mar 24 2006 at 4:58 AM Rating: Decent
i know plenty of BLMs who got Magnetic instead of Static, believe me there's no "dumb ***" in getting Magnetic. Static is on par with BLM relic gloves' "bonus damage added to magic burst" so you have a choice between bursting for about 10-20 more damage every time you MB, or saving alot more MP per spell when conserve activates.

the Conserve MP +5 on this activates quite a bit with /BLM, if you're BLM then you'll get a ******** more use out of this, relic gloves, and relic feet.

not to mention the healing MP +1, yeah i dont know any BLM who'd want that, and you'd have to be stupid to want that sweet +20mp on an earring too /endsarcasm

To get the four new earrings added with the version update(magnetic, hollow, ethereal, static), you need to have completed all Zilart Missions, all Chains of Promathia missions, the first BC with Bahamut, and then activate and complete the Apocalypse Nigh quest.
