I think that I can confirm that the smithing skill-cap for this synth is 30.

I started making these to raise my woodworking skill (36 at the time). My smithing skill was 28 -- and I was surprised to see that each synth I was getting woodworking and smithing skill-ups. (I love it when that happens!) I'm not sure why, but even though I was only 2 levels below each cap, the rate of skill-ups was awesome. Seemed like a magic synth.

The skill-ups stopped when my wood reached 38 and my smithing reached 30.

The correct way to make Caisson is Earth Crystal, Bronze Sheet x2, Chestnut Lumber x2.

I though it is wind crystal so I spend a full day camping wind element and find out that you need earth crystal. I hope website master fix this or else more people will have the same problem as I have.

So, after some careful consideration, I had decided that my Mog House needed a heavy overhauling. I was really pressed for immediate storage room (I say immediate meaning accessible to my main character; I have 4 mules, one in each major city, and 3 of them have space to hold 120 items because of the 'water jug trick'). Anyways, I saw the Caisson as a perfect opportunity because I figured I could make them for about 7k per, and 7k for STG:3 is a pretty good price.

I am currently level 59 Woodworking and level 25 smithing. I didn't know the smithing requirement, but I figured that since it was Bronze Sheets, it should be under 20 for sure. However, I decided to use the Advanced Synthesis Support anyways.

Went out to Sandy, bought my Bronze Sheets, Lumberjacked up some Chestnutt Lumber and went to work. Much to my chagrin, I broke my first synth. I was not pleased, but I figured it wasn't the end of the world. Then, more to my chagrin, I broke the second synth. By now, I was getting pretty nervous about this synth, because I had just laid down enough to make 12 of these things at like 7k a pop.

Anyways, I managed to knock out my next 10 synths successfully, and get I think 0.8 in smithing skill in the process. I haven't really focuses on crafting in a while, but based on the 83% success rate (over an admittedly too small sample), I would guess the cap for the smithing skill on this is just about 30.

I plan to attempt 12 more today, so I can post more updates on this later. I would like to test the market for these things and maybe make them for a profit if possible and skill up at the same time.

It should also be noted this thing is size 2x5. So, if you plan to lay out a bunch of them in your Mog House like I do, be ready to have to pass up on having some pretty decor b/c you will basically have a floor littered with ammunition crates.

Well, after seeing the item on the AH, and realising it was a Woodworking synth, I decided to try this out. First, yeah, like the above poster said, it's Earth crystal.

FFXI-Wiki has this listed as 2x Bronze Ingots. Wasted 10k there.

I can confirm that the smithing sub is above 21. I got a 0.1 skill up while trying to make these. I say trying, because I failed all but one synth(the skill up) so far(10 synths attempted, one success).

So, between 21-31 apparently, which seems slightly high given the cap for Bronze Sheets. I'm guessing it's more like 27-31, as I cant imagine I would break so damn often if it was any lower(and I never got a skill up on the break).
