SummaryAdvertise Baren-Moren's latest creation by chatting with the local inhabitants of Windurst Waters. He'll pay you according to the number of townsfolk you speak to. But, you are not to leave Windurst Waters before completing the task. WalkthroughBaren-Moren wants you to walk around town showing off the New Model Hat he has for sale. Accept the offer and then go around and talk to the following NPCs:
It is very important that you not leave Windurst Waters before you finish the quest. When you have talked to them all, talk to Bondada at the hat shop. When you have talked to everyone you need to, Bondada will change what she previously said and agrees to buy a hat. You can then end the quest with the full payout and a Windshear Hat. The more people you talk to, the greater your pay will be in the end, to a max of 300 gil if you talk to everyone. Quest SeriesThis quest is part of a series of quests offered by Baren-Moren. I ran the hat to all the listed NPC's and also chatted up like 10-15 other along the way...I stopped in at my Mog House to drop some extra stuff off (as to make room for my new hat) and when I brought it back to Bondada he said nothing new so i just tossed the hat in...and got nothing but the shaft for all my time intensive efforts.
OK, this was an easy quest with this walkthrough, but can you do it twice even after getting the full reward?

Machitata is located at (L-11) in Northern Part of Windurst Waters
In lower Windhurst Waters, I spoke to 30 NPCs that I showed the hat off to.
In upper Windhurst Waters (starting with Anja-Enja right at the upper/lower Windhurst Waters border), I spoke to 97 NPCs that I showed the hat off to (3 NPCs won't look at the hat - Puroiko-Maiko, W.W., the guard near the exit to West Sarutabaruta; Dienger, the Galkan bard who can recall quests for 10 gil; and Lumomo, who asks you to kill monsters in the Maze of Shakrami at the "Bridge of Dreams" restaurant).
Finally, I went back to lower Windhurst Waters and spoke to Honoi-Gomoi again, which showed the hat off again (odd). Next, I headed back to the hat shop and talked to Bondada, who agreed to buy one. Finally, after a grand total of 129 times showing off the hat, I talked to Baren-Moren and hung up the hat.
"I take my hat off to you. Why, I even ave orders coming in from other coutries! I don't know what you did, but it worked wonders. Your talent in advertising is almost as brilliantaru as my talent in hatmaking. Here, take the that as a reward."
After all that, I got the Windshear Hat and only 200 gil.
I'm wondering if I possibly missed any NPCs that I could have shown off the hat to a second time, or if the maximum is only 200...

I only (haha.. only..) talked to 122 npcs (not counting ones that I didn't get the "You show off your New Model Hat" message for) and got 200 gil and a windhshear hat.
Wasn't really worth it, hah.

I "hung my hat up" a while back as I couldn't seem to finish the quest. Is there any way to get it back?

This happened to me too.. I haven't found a way to get it back. ; ; I want that hat!!

You know, I just did this quest and everyone is saying they talked to x many people and didn't get the hat. Well, you'll notice as you're doing it there are certain people that pay attention to the hat you're showing off and others who just say their normal thing. I didn't talk to anywhere near everyone in Wind. Waters and I still got 150 gil and the hat. My theory is that maybe it only matters how many 'enthusiastic' people see it? Just a theory I thought I'd throw out there. :/

what is zoning? and does the hat the you get hold any significance? i cant keep track of who i talked to and who i didnt.

if you really want to get every NPC, use the ranger's widescan, it also detects NPCs
I showed my hat 135 times which I seemed to think was everyone in the area and got a mere 200 + hat.... lemme bet theres 136 people

It took me a 40 min to complete quest. You can't sell/trade the hat and you only get 300 gil. The price I pay for fame Doh!

i have made a mistake, i return to speak to Baren Moden and i suppose to have enough speak to all pnj but it wasn't right so i lost this quest and now baren moden dont want to speak to me..
Can i do something to repair this... ??

In order to get the hat + money, talk to everyone in town INCLUDING the 3 listed. If you ONLY talk to the 8 listed, you get nothing. The way it's explained up there is confusing. You MUST talk to folks OTHER than the 8 listed.

Kyume-Romeh is actually in Timbre Timbers restaurant, not at the Rarab's Tail.
Just emailed in the correction, i can verify this also just finished the quest a second time

I know that I talked with everyone, from the guards to the shopkeeps and I got 200 gil and the hat, I went to every house in both parts of Windhurst Waters. I will probably do the quest some more to find out if other ways change it.

Ummmmm i didnt read this before i started the quest and i only talked to a few people then i hung up the hat and he said something along the lines of " You didnt do it for me and you incompetent" blah blah... can i try it again or no?

300 gil max? He gave me 440 gil and the hat. That's when I scoured EVERY CORNER OF THE MAP. even the guards and the places where you don't even think there is a person.

I did this quest before reading this. I talked to EVERYONE in waters (both non-zoning sections), was very complete. And I got the hat and 300 gil. I knew about this quest ahead of time (from watching hubby play while he was working on getting me a world pass). So it was the first place I went when playing the game so I could kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Do the hat quest while talking to all the npc's which I would have done anyway.
