Summary

Ensetsu wishes to reclaim an item he has sold to the Tenshodo, but they will not exchange it for anything other than a Strangely Shaped Coral (key item) from the Korroloka Tunnel. You must go and retrieve it for him.

Walkthrough

Talk to Kaede at (J-5) in Port Bastok to begin this quest. After the cutscene, go talk to Kagetora in Warehouse 2, then talk to Ensetsu, who will ask you for a favor.

Make your way to the Korroloka Tunnel. If you're level 30+ (maybe less, but my group and I were at least 30) you shouldn't have to worry about too many aggro mobs. Mobs of interest that should be noted are jellies, bogies, and jammer leeches.

  • Follow the path until you can go left and straight. Turn left at (K-8).
  • Follow the path until you come out the other side, proceed left.
  • When you reach the bridge at (G-9), turn right and cross to the other side.
  • Proceed left. When you reach the junction point between going right and left (D-8), go right.
  • Follow the path, it will go outside, and back in to another tunnel. Continue to follow it until you can go left or right (H-8). Go left.
  • There is usually a lone jelly at this point a party of 3 or more with 1 healer shouldn't worry about it hurting you too much.
  • Continue straight and enter the cave on your left (F-9).
  • Continue to follow the path. DO NOT cross the bridge, simply continue along the right wall.
  • Continue to follow the path until you can go straight or right (H-11). Go right.
  • After this point, you may need to be very careful of Bogies, keep a look out and be ready for them. Invis/Sneak/Deodorize and you can get by.
  • Keep going straight and you'll cross another bridge.
  • When you can go left or right (H-8), go right.
  • Follow that path and at the end of (I-7) turn right again. Bogy warning, one can be waiting for you, maybe 2. They have a large aggro/link range. Proceed with caution.
  • Follow that path, you may or may not see several Bogy. Whether you spell up and run by or fight them, it is your choice.
  • At the end of the path, turn left and go straight to the ??? point.
DO NOT CLICK THE ??? until your group is prepared to fight 3 Korroloka Leeches.

After the leeches are killed, quickly click on the ??? point to get a key item: Strangely Shaped Coral. Head back to Bastok and talk to Ensetsu again. He will send you to Norg. It is recommended that you set your home point to Bastok to make things easy.

If you have never been to Norg before, take the airship to Kazham. Rent a chocobo and head down to the south end of the zone. Fall down one of the holes and head behind a waterfall at (E-11). This is the entrance to Sea Serpent Grotto. Make sure you have Sneak up and hug the right wall until you reach a Stone Door. This will eventually lead you to Norg.

Talk to Ryoma, who is standing near the docks. He will give you a key item: Sealed Dagger. Return to Ensetsu one more time for a cutscene. You will then be able to change jobs to a Ninja.

Battle Details

  • Kill any Thread Leeches near the ??? point, as when the 3 leeches spawn they will link.
  • Should the person that touched the ??? point die, and group members happen to escape unharmed and without aggro. DO NOT RAISE the fallen member unless the Korroloka Leeches are killed. After the timed-event has passed and they vanish, the instant the person who originally touched the ??? point is raised, they will re-appear and more death will result.

Incredibly easy, although it made me mad. I killed the leeches at the ???, popped a silent oil and spawned the leeches. Pulled tthe right one and killed it easy, no problem. Waited for the other two to despawn, ran up, clicked the ??? and got the message "There is nothing out of the ordinary here" SoB!!!

So, after waiting through 2 regular thread leech spawns, I did the exact same thing, except after the right leech I pulled the middle one, after the middle one I pulled the left one. Took them all easy 1v1 (Well, wyvern counts so 2v1). Just an FYI for any aspiring DRG's out there, this is easy!

Did this earlier at 60PLD extremely easy. i took hate from all 3 mobs off the rdm i was helping. provoke, flash and shieldbash.

killed all three with ease i think i only took like 200 damage with berserk through the whole fight.

soloed this quest last night as a level 35 RDM. The walk is the hardest part. I killed the two regular leeches before the ????. I used sneak, touched ????. They didn't aggro cause of sneak. I pulled the one on the right with Dia. I finished the battle with 356/510 hp and 62/312 mp. The other summoned leeches disappeared and I got my item. You only have to kill one of the spawned leeches to finish this part of the quest. The leeches spawn far enough apart so they don't link if you pull with a bow or a spell. The respawn time on the regular leeches is about 7 mins, so you will have time to rest if you need to after you kill them. Then I had to walk to norg without a map or any experience of the area, which was fun. Hell, if I can do this quest anyone can since I am a total noob.

p.s. by anyone I meant anyone except for taru taru monks, ninjas, or warriors.

a friend of mine tried this as RDM/BLM 32, and managed to kill the first leech well enough, but the other two did not re-pop. I told her at the time that she probably didn't wait long enough for the other two to de-pop, but if you say they de-popped before the other two popped, then something's up here. either they changed it, you got lucky, or its BS hehe.

could you clarify on how long it took them to de-pop?

Just did this fight with a friend's character (55 whm). I used sneak and deodorize prior to hitting the ??? and there was no immediate aggro. I then did an elemental seal + sleep on the right-most leech. The left-most leech aggroed me at that point but the center one did not. I fought the aggro'ing leech. During that fight, the leech I slept woke up and aggroed but the center leech still did not. I continued to fight the first leech, while sleeping the 2nd repeatedly. Just as I was about to kill the original aggroing leech, the center leech (which was still just sitting there up to this point) despawned. I killed the original leech and then ran back to the place where the center leech used to be (to avoid aggro from any respawned thread leeches in the area) and continued to fight the second leech. Eventually, I killed that second leech and clicked the ??? again... got the coral.

Moral of the story: you don't HAVE to fight, or even kill, all three leeches to finish the quest.

Did this today for a friend, RDM32 and will tomorrow for another friend. I have done this many times over and over, using my PLD back when I was in the low to mid 50's and on. I even soloed it for myself with my low 50's pld.

This time, I used my RDM75/NIN37. It was sick, just plain sick! The first one went down in about 3 hits, and the others followed just as quickly. Dual Wield, Wise Wiz. Analaces, I was freaking myself out at how quickly they fell, lol. I haven't done this quest for anyone, is nearly a year, it was truly shocking.

But I do know, a 52ish PLD subbing WHM can easily solo this. Stoneskin's very nice, but also for diaga, to pull all 3 mobs on ya at once :) A tip: Explain to whomever you are doing this quest for, that they will get hate on them at first, and not to panic. Explain to only hit the mob that you are hitting. What I do, the second the 3 leeches pop, I throw out a diaga, and all 3 immediately turn on me. As long as we are hitting the same target, none of the leeches will move off of me, if they accidently hit a different leech, then switch targets to get it back back on ya.

I hope that helps.. I have found in doing many quests, diaga to be a powerful ally in pulling mass hate on me and off my lower level friends to keep them safe. I found it is always good to review with people what to expect and tell them outright, DO NOT PANIC, stay close to me, never ever run away! LOL. (That is always when they do die, when they panic and run off)..

Oh, another word of advice.. This is a GREAT time to take that friend who wants to unlock nin, strait to get the altepa gate crystal. Get that first, run to rabao for their maps, then take the west altepa zone to korrola tunnel, that is the little south eastern curved out piece on the map (looks just like the zone from east to west altepa on the east altepa map, same curved look). Zone in there, from there, it's just a very short run to the ??? pop, needing only to sneak to prevent aggro's.

Hope this helps!

Close, very close

Galka War47/Mnk23, with Wild Steak, Royal Squires Sandy gear except had Brigandine instead of chain. Killed 2 thread leeches, healed then clicked on the ??? Started off using 2-hr and dodge to quickly kill 1. Had about 1/3 of 2 hour remaining and 610/1080 HP. Killed the second. My HP for the 3rd was 230/1080. Used defender, and kept chipping away. Luckily, had enough TP (150%) and luck (leech kept missing and used only 1 regeneration) for final blow. Overall, I was hitting for 50-90 damage, not including 2-hr criticals. Ended up with 100Hp.

since the new uptdate sam's rock! lv 45 sam/war here and solo'd this quest w/ the help of one regain drink...the leechs aren't really that strong, i was getting hit for about 40 pts of damage apiece when they actually hit me. I did use my 2hr and i know that helped 5 tachi: Enpi's w/ hasso/zerk on killed 2 of them and then 3rd eye/seigan and dodged the 3rd ones attacks a good 75% of the time. Anyone need some help send a /tell to Citrelautame on Fairy server. Good luck to all and enjoy your nin

Well I got NIN last night. I was gonna try it solo as a 43 PLD/WAR, but a LS buddy was in Bastok and decided to come along and help. He is 56 MNK/NIN. So we head to the ??? all I got was some aggro from the giants which we took down easily. When we got there killed the leeches around there for some TP, i cured us and protect II, waited for mp regen to fill me up, called our npc's and we were off and running. 2 of them came after me and the other went after my buddy. He killed his before I killed one of mine and he had the third one down to 3/4 hp before I killed mine and I joined the fight. Finished that one off pretty easily with both us beating on it. Both of us finished in the yellow, but were never in any real danger. All in all, I dont think I woulda been able to solo it unless I fought one at a time somehow. Afterwards we were just runnin around killing leeches to lvl our npc's since they were out and we got carbuncle's ruby, so I let my friend have it since he helped me get NIN, now I could say I helped him get Summoner. After npc's "called it a day" I went to Norg got the sealed dagger, came back to Bastok (forgot to hp in Bastok so had to airship back) talked to the dude got the scroll and now I be a Ninja.
Pathetic

Decided to try soloing this as 34 thf/war and i got a lot closer then i thought. Here's how i did it. Suited up in high evasion gear (evasion capped btw) and at a jack-o-lantern (for the +10eva). They hit hard, about 50pt each hit so the high evasion was the only thing that kept me alive (until i died that is :))

Anyhow, killed a bunch of easy prey/to week worms at the biginning of the tunnel for the 300 TP. Got to the "???" and killed the two thread leeches hanging out there. Had sneak on from traveling and then took some deoderizer. Hit the "???" to spawn the leaches. They did not aggro due to the deoderizor. Used a blind bolt to pull one of the leeches but he brought a friend along (don't know if it's possible to just pull one but at least all three didn't come). Just kept hitting the leech with bloody bolts and got to around 1/2 HP (leach was at about 1/3). Missed my opertunity to use weapon skill since he got me with the drain tp right away (damn those bolts - cause such fast tp gain). At this point I used my 2HR (perfect dodge) and an X-Potion but was blinded by the leech. Suffice to say my bolts weren't hitting to well at this point. Died when I got the leach to about 10% HP.

Honestly i think this is solo-able at 34 thf/war with capped evasion and mark and a lot of luck. So if you try it be prepared to die a good many times before you succeed.

Rated this up because I like that a thf tried to solo it ^^

Thfs are so much better solo than they think w/ status bolts (at lower lvls... of course evasion bonus rocks later).

If anyone else is ballsy enough to try this, you can do what thfs (or at least me as thf) do in ballista-- unlock your target, and use a sleep bolt, if it procs, run behind them without hitting them, use SA and lock back on and hit them with it. Also handy to get shadows back up... but since you were doing it to get nin... obviously not an option.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for not being scared to try it. Good job!

I just soloed this quest today as a BLM62/WHM31, and if I can solo this quest with a Black Mage, anyone can solo this quest with any level 60+ job for sure! Just for extra precautions I used Stoneskin, Blink, and ProtectII. Spawned the mobs, Elemental Seal > Sleegpa, FiragaII, BlizzagaII, and AerogaII. Done Deal Baby! What a cakewalk! And I was told I couldn't solo this quest by SOOO many people, lmao!

Took about 150HP > 550+ Remaining!
Used about 450MP > 250+ Remaining!

Goodluck! =P
Easy with help.

Helped my girlfriend out with this the past couple nights and its easy if you have help. Of course everything's easy with high lvl help. Had her sneak pop the leeches who proceeded to attack me. I unloaded tp from clearing links on the first one and just normal meleed the other two to death. Escorted her to norg with no issues and had her pick up the sam quest while she was there.
Meh, not bad

I did it today, and got killed by the leeches. A HL I had in my pt killed them, went and changed his job, raised me, and prepared to fight again, only to find that when I clicked the ??? again, I got the coral. From the start of the battle to the time when I got raised and got the coral was about a 1/2 hour, and I didn't have to fight the leeches again. So someone may want to change the quest guide to reflect this.

BTW, thanks Fuyo for your help!

helped a friend do this as 56drg/28war-27whm (i had to sneak him through sea serpent grotto) those leeches were too easy, at beggining of battle i just voked 1 jumped on 1 and high jumped another and boom i had hate for all three which was good cuz he was in the red, anyway 300tp penta thrust killed one leech and bout 4 hits killed another and same for the last i snuck him through sea serpent grotto, stupid skeles ranked EP++ at 56 so instead of just letting them hit me for thee last 40 ft. to norg i decided to sneak myself too, then he warped back to bastok boom hes done in korrokola tunnel i just killed every mob that aggroed him def way too weak
