Summary

Ensetsu wishes to reclaim an item he has sold to the Tenshodo, but they will not exchange it for anything other than a Strangely Shaped Coral (key item) from the Korroloka Tunnel. You must go and retrieve it for him.

Walkthrough

Talk to Kaede at (J-5) in Port Bastok to begin this quest. After the cutscene, go talk to Kagetora in Warehouse 2, then talk to Ensetsu, who will ask you for a favor.

Make your way to the Korroloka Tunnel. If you're level 30+ (maybe less, but my group and I were at least 30) you shouldn't have to worry about too many aggro mobs. Mobs of interest that should be noted are jellies, bogies, and jammer leeches.

  • Follow the path until you can go left and straight. Turn left at (K-8).
  • Follow the path until you come out the other side, proceed left.
  • When you reach the bridge at (G-9), turn right and cross to the other side.
  • Proceed left. When you reach the junction point between going right and left (D-8), go right.
  • Follow the path, it will go outside, and back in to another tunnel. Continue to follow it until you can go left or right (H-8). Go left.
  • There is usually a lone jelly at this point a party of 3 or more with 1 healer shouldn't worry about it hurting you too much.
  • Continue straight and enter the cave on your left (F-9).
  • Continue to follow the path. DO NOT cross the bridge, simply continue along the right wall.
  • Continue to follow the path until you can go straight or right (H-11). Go right.
  • After this point, you may need to be very careful of Bogies, keep a look out and be ready for them. Invis/Sneak/Deodorize and you can get by.
  • Keep going straight and you'll cross another bridge.
  • When you can go left or right (H-8), go right.
  • Follow that path and at the end of (I-7) turn right again. Bogy warning, one can be waiting for you, maybe 2. They have a large aggro/link range. Proceed with caution.
  • Follow that path, you may or may not see several Bogy. Whether you spell up and run by or fight them, it is your choice.
  • At the end of the path, turn left and go straight to the ??? point.
DO NOT CLICK THE ??? until your group is prepared to fight 3 Korroloka Leeches.

After the leeches are killed, quickly click on the ??? point to get a key item: Strangely Shaped Coral. Head back to Bastok and talk to Ensetsu again. He will send you to Norg. It is recommended that you set your home point to Bastok to make things easy.

If you have never been to Norg before, take the airship to Kazham. Rent a chocobo and head down to the south end of the zone. Fall down one of the holes and head behind a waterfall at (E-11). This is the entrance to Sea Serpent Grotto. Make sure you have Sneak up and hug the right wall until you reach a Stone Door. This will eventually lead you to Norg.

Talk to Ryoma, who is standing near the docks. He will give you a key item: Sealed Dagger. Return to Ensetsu one more time for a cutscene. You will then be able to change jobs to a Ninja.

Battle Details

  • Kill any Thread Leeches near the ??? point, as when the 3 leeches spawn they will link.
  • Should the person that touched the ??? point die, and group members happen to escape unharmed and without aggro. DO NOT RAISE the fallen member unless the Korroloka Leeches are killed. After the timed-event has passed and they vanish, the instant the person who originally touched the ??? point is raised, they will re-appear and more death will result.

ouch... went in with two lvl 30 strangers (I'm lvl 30 too) last night and naturally things got screwed up, one died, the other wandered off and I just logged not wanting to deal with it so late at night.

Now I'm trying in vain to find help down in the tunnel... BUT NOONE SPEAKS ENGLISH!!

oy, this quest....

Is there a way to get to Norg without an Air Pass?

No, but all you need is the Kazham air pass (the airpass you get for finding the 3 keys), you don't need to be Rank5 to do this.

Or, if you have the tele-yhoat crystal, you can go that way, but a lot harder to do.

Hmmm. How could someone have a Tele-port Yoat crystal if they have never been to Kazham? They havent been to Kazham if they dont have the airpass. >.<

I went to Enetsu as 40 BLM today, and he only talks about his daughter..I'm not sure if it's fame, or something else. Anyone know?

Yeh, i was confused by that. But that is actually how the quest starts. Go talk to his young daughter (Kaede) in the other room to trigger a cut scene.

Just helped out an LS mate with this as 54WAR/NIN. I essentially soloed them, as his HP got relatively low pretty fast, so he stood way back so the aoe didn't get him. Finished with about 1/2 HP left. Ate a kabob and popped mighty strikes right at the beginning. Since we had no mage, I didn't have any TP in the beginning, but it was a relatively straightforward fight. Had X-Potions with, but at no point did I consider using them.
Very easy for 57 rdm

I easily solod the leeches with a level 57 elvaan red mage, subbing blm.

Strategy in order:
get 300% tp off of thread leeches
Eat a meat mithkabob.
Cast phalanx+stoneskin+aquaveil+prot III
Cast Refresh
Swap in fluorite for astral rings
Click on ???
use Spirits Within on one leech.
Cast sleep II on another one.
Do the last couple of hits on the leech I whacked and then move on to the third one.
Then kill the last one.

Took like 2 minutes. Phalanx didn't even wear until after the last kill.

Melee Equipment:
AF to date
Wise Wiz. Anelace
Balance Buckler
Spike Necklace
Drone Earrings
Royal Knight's Belt
Brigandine
Fluorite Rings

I got the necklace just for this fight, but it wasn't necessary. I usually use a merman's gorget because it's valuable for more evasive mobs.

Basically this setup was overkill, I was expecting a much harder fight. If you're level 50+ rdm and you have phalanx... just go in there like you were farming any other mob. Sleep is your friend.

If a party kills the leeches, can everyone click on the question marks for the coral or do you have to fight the leeches each time for every member? Secondly, can a party member that has not activated the quest get the coral 1st, then go activate quest? Thank you for any insight.
RE: All for One?
# Sep 15 2004 at 3:17 PM Rating: Decent
A party is only required to kill the leeches once, after that any one in party can touch the ??? and recieve the item. All party members MUST have the quest active upon fighting the leeches. If you dont, you will recieve nothing after the fight.

Party of 2
# Sep 15 2004 at 11:44 AM Rating: Decent
DRK47/WAR23(ME) and WAR30/MNK15 just did this quest and it was kinda rough but we survived. If you are a melee class and wish to attempt these without mages in your party, potions are a must. I personally had 3 x-potions on me and i still ended with 112hp. The warrior didnt take much dmg since i held hate doing around 200 dmg per hit with meat mithkabobs and absorb str. The first leech was no problem as we used 2 hours on it. I hit blood weapon and soul eater and by the end of the first i was still at full HP. The second really took a chunk out of us and i used all 3 of my potions on it. The last was a race against time but the warrior hit sturm wind at the last second and we barely came out alive. I would not recommend trying this unless you are very skilled or at least 55+. With a party this would be VERY VERY easy. Just my 2 cents..
50 Mnk solo it
# Sep 11 2004 at 10:43 PM Rating: Decent
If I 2 hr'd fighting the three leeches as a 50mnk/thf could i solo this one?
RE: 50 Mnk solo it
# Sep 15 2004 at 11:51 AM Rating: Decent
It would be close, but i think you might be able to pull it off... if you could get the first 2 down by the time 100 fists wears off, then yea u would have no problem. Id pack a few potions just to be on the safe side.

I just did this with a DRK in AF armor. Don't know his level, but we (2 level 30 Whms) sat back and wached as he hit leeches for 700 or so DMG w/ his WS. The hardest part about this? Getting to Norg by yourself.

Norg is out of the way, and you have to go through Sea Serpent Grotto to get there, but it's not as challenging as it may seem.

Bring a scroll of Instant Warp with you to Kazham (optionally), then ask somebody with Sneak and Invisible to guide you in - even if you pay them to do it it will probably be cheaper than silent oil and prism powder.

When you're ready to go, have them escort you out, or use the Instant Warp to get back out.

I didn't find it a problem at all, even though all the mobs were VT or IT to me - since my main job is RDM I can come and go to Norg as I please. I started going there as level 26 or 27 I believe.

FYI, Taru 48RDM/24BLM, did stoneskin/blink/phalanx/Protect III/Shell II/refresh -- chainspell for 7 aeroga's, 1 cure IV on me and 2 more aeroga's and all three leeches were dead, with 50MP to spare and plenty of HP left.
Should I?

I did this last night with a few friends. Our configuration:

WAR/MNK (37)
MNK/WAR (36)
BRD/WHM (37)
WHM/BLM (36)
BLM/WHM (39)

I had received the impression from this forum that this would be a difficult battle without high level help. That might be true at 30, but I think a 32-35 party could do this without any trouble at all. I didn't expect to have problems completing the battle, but it surprised me when we won in about two minutes. I don't think these leeches are any harder than the nearby thread leeches, with the exception of the necessity to fight three simultaneously (even this isn't important if you have at least one teammate with sleep).
Oops.. I skipped a step....

Defeated the Korraloka Leeches last night(much thanks to El and all the Knights), and I warped to Jeuno, and airshipped to Kazham.... without talking to Ensetsu again!! Now I don't wanna go all the way back to Bastok if I don't need to... but by the same token I don't want to choco/sneak to Norg just to find out that I am double screwed.

-Indecisive in Kazham
(and yes, I realize in the time it took to type this, I coulda gone back to Bastok and been done with it, but I am doin it for the kids...)

This is important, and I’m not the only one who’s done this mistake, I’ve talked to others who have too:
Make sure after you get the coral to go back to Ensetsu and talk to him. Going all the way to Norg and finding you have to go back to talk with Ensetsu again is really the pits. At lvl 31 I had lots of help with the leeches; Thanks to those who help!

Just did this battle solo as BLM59/WHM29... got up my TP on the surrounding thread leeches... buffed up (Protect II, Stoneskin, Blink and Ice Spikes)... Clicked the ??? and started off with a 300%tp Earth Crusher... 400+ damage to all... followed by Elemental Seal + Sleepga... and continued to melee one.. noticed they were already half dead and decided to nuke them to death... Switched to Ice Staff and Firaga II'd them... one died... Waterga II... 2nd died... auto target last... one hit with staff... dead... YAY! was surprised how smoothly it went... and that's my story
