Summary

Ensetsu wishes to reclaim an item he has sold to the Tenshodo, but they will not exchange it for anything other than a Strangely Shaped Coral (key item) from the Korroloka Tunnel. You must go and retrieve it for him.

Walkthrough

Talk to Kaede at (J-5) in Port Bastok to begin this quest. After the cutscene, go talk to Kagetora in Warehouse 2, then talk to Ensetsu, who will ask you for a favor.

Make your way to the Korroloka Tunnel. If you're level 30+ (maybe less, but my group and I were at least 30) you shouldn't have to worry about too many aggro mobs. Mobs of interest that should be noted are jellies, bogies, and jammer leeches.

  • Follow the path until you can go left and straight. Turn left at (K-8).
  • Follow the path until you come out the other side, proceed left.
  • When you reach the bridge at (G-9), turn right and cross to the other side.
  • Proceed left. When you reach the junction point between going right and left (D-8), go right.
  • Follow the path, it will go outside, and back in to another tunnel. Continue to follow it until you can go left or right (H-8). Go left.
  • There is usually a lone jelly at this point a party of 3 or more with 1 healer shouldn't worry about it hurting you too much.
  • Continue straight and enter the cave on your left (F-9).
  • Continue to follow the path. DO NOT cross the bridge, simply continue along the right wall.
  • Continue to follow the path until you can go straight or right (H-11). Go right.
  • After this point, you may need to be very careful of Bogies, keep a look out and be ready for them. Invis/Sneak/Deodorize and you can get by.
  • Keep going straight and you'll cross another bridge.
  • When you can go left or right (H-8), go right.
  • Follow that path and at the end of (I-7) turn right again. Bogy warning, one can be waiting for you, maybe 2. They have a large aggro/link range. Proceed with caution.
  • Follow that path, you may or may not see several Bogy. Whether you spell up and run by or fight them, it is your choice.
  • At the end of the path, turn left and go straight to the ??? point.
DO NOT CLICK THE ??? until your group is prepared to fight 3 Korroloka Leeches.

After the leeches are killed, quickly click on the ??? point to get a key item: Strangely Shaped Coral. Head back to Bastok and talk to Ensetsu again. He will send you to Norg. It is recommended that you set your home point to Bastok to make things easy.

If you have never been to Norg before, take the airship to Kazham. Rent a chocobo and head down to the south end of the zone. Fall down one of the holes and head behind a waterfall at (E-11). This is the entrance to Sea Serpent Grotto. Make sure you have Sneak up and hug the right wall until you reach a Stone Door. This will eventually lead you to Norg.

Talk to Ryoma, who is standing near the docks. He will give you a key item: Sealed Dagger. Return to Ensetsu one more time for a cutscene. You will then be able to change jobs to a Ninja.

Battle Details

  • Kill any Thread Leeches near the ??? point, as when the 3 leeches spawn they will link.
  • Should the person that touched the ??? point die, and group members happen to escape unharmed and without aggro. DO NOT RAISE the fallen member unless the Korroloka Leeches are killed. After the timed-event has passed and they vanish, the instant the person who originally touched the ??? point is raised, they will re-appear and more death will result.

easy way

the easiest way i found how to do it.. i just learned from the bst quest. change to lv 1 job, get someone to use magic for sneak and invisibility or use potions for it, find the ??? click on it and die <shrugs>
RE: easy way
# Feb 21 2004 at 10:51 PM Rating: Decent
This method does not work

Tried it 2 ways.

1. Click on ??? let NM's despawn. Click on ???. No reward.
(Heard this rumor and put it to the test.)
2. Go there take a reraise scroll, use scroll click on ??? immediately attack leeches die, reraise reclick on ???. No reward.

This method may have worked on other jobs but it does NOT on Nin.

Things that do work.
1. get 50 solo.
2. get high lvl person.
3. get a 30's party together and complete.

I wasnt trying to get a free-be job here I just read the org post from mr. anonymous and also that rumor then decided on my way to completeing it I'd clarify the truth of "easy ways". For a job this fun a bit of work is well worth it.

1- First of all, to all of the persons saying this is easy because they had some high level player do it for them, that is not very useful information. Begging for help is not "knowing what your(*sic*) doing". (the word is "you're")

2- The problem of this fight is you're fighting 3 mobs, so it's about crowd control. The name of the game is sleep. Either have a red mage sleep two of them, or have a black mage cast sleepga and then pick one to kill, avoiding -ga damage spells.

Tough project to do for school. Think, it's easy, have someone else do it! A job is too tough for you? Get someone else to do it! (this is great for popularity in the workplace)

I'll take some LS buddies along and actually try to get it done with players with the same level as I am (once I hit 30).
Can be done with three lvl 37's

Hey all i just wanted to say that this quest can be done if you have at least 2 melee and a WHM 37+. It was me 37 SAM and a 37 DRK with a 37 WHM. We were able to kill leeches and i got my coral. YEAY!!! DRK got aggro on one leech i got aggro on two :(. We both used our two hour but i dont think it was needed. WHM had next to nothing MP after it was over but it was done. )

Lmao! Excellent point. It's not so much that I mind people getting help from higher levels (I've done it many times). It's when people constantly brag about it like it was nothing "Oh this quest was overrated, my 75 PLD friend took them on no problem."
Of course it was no problem, what kind of quest could you even dream of attempting at 30 if it was difficult to do at 75. As for me? Oo..I have NIN envy. But I'll probably wait a few more levels before trying to get a group for this one.
easy??
# Feb 01 2004 at 11:15 PM Rating: Default
about clearing the area out... when we initiated the fight, every leech in the area must have reacted. we killed the leeches in the tunnel no problem, but that didn't seem to mean anything. level 30 thfs were taking 50-55 dmg a hit, and the level 50 drg we were with managed to get pretty far away until the train of leeches and bogies finally finished him. even if the 3 nms are "easy" you have to really worry about the others in the area, even if you think you took care of it.

This is just a suggestion to people having difficulty doing this quest, so take it or leave it. I have found that a little gil goes a long way.

It is not always about the money, I believe it is a matter of respect and to sign of appreciation. For example I went down to Korrokola and put out this message:

|Please Listen| |Need Help| |Ninja| |Quest| 1000??

I had 3 responses from high level players in about 2 minutes. I was in and out within 10 minutes (thank-you Flowery). She even gave me a Mithkabob, so I got to have most of the fun killing while she cast Cure and Sleepga.

The point is you may want to provide a little monetary incentive when asking for raises and other help during your travels. Many times they refuse it. Just my 2 cents.

to be honset, lvl 50 people dont really care about the 1000 gil. There are many faster ways for them to get 1000 gil then walking into the korolokka tunnel, fighting a mob and walking back. As a lvl 50 whm i can make 1k gil in about a minute just by walking into town and porting people. Any high levels who help you are just doing it for kindness, and probably will feel somewhat insulted if you offer them 1k. Offer them nothing, or enough to make it worth thier time.

High Level Help...

Just a little repsonse to all the "I had high level help" or "get a high level to help you"... Have you ever considered that just because you are level 30 you have "not" earned a job such as Ninja?
It is after all part of the Zilart expansion, which the Japanese players didn't have for quite some time after their release. I'd say they deserved it - but the NA release, not a chance. The way I see it, if you can't do something yourself or a party your own level you haven't earned it :P

Same goes for the low level summoners crying their eyes out cause Japanese players wont help them beat Avatar Primes :P

as was stated, you have to go back to ensetsu after you get the item from Norg. if you are pressed for time, keep you're HP in bastok and do the ghetto warp once you get the item in Norg.
What Warehouse?

I did this quest with my whm bf at level 30. It's 2 of us + 1 lvl 40 thf. It's really not that big of a deal if you clear the leeches around the ??? first. Those regular leeches will agro if NM leeches pop. When you click on ??? 3 NM leeches will pop. They don't hit hard at all 20 and 30s. I did pop 2 hours at the beginning in order to get all of them agro on me. It's not necessary, just kill them one after the other, don't panic!
RE: a full group level 30 is okay
# Jan 23 2004 at 1:34 AM Rating: Default
Why do people talk about how easy and how sipmle a quest is to do ... when they bring along some high leveler(s) with them? Of course it's easy! I mean, any quest is easy when you've got someone who could solo it with you. I mean, come on, if it's so easy, then why didn't you try it with that full group of 30's in the first place (or whatever level the other quest is allowed out - since I'm not just talking about this quest)?

I think ALL quests are easy and simple. ...there it's been said. Why? Cause I could take some 70's with me to go do all the quests and they'd all be easy.
RE: a full group level 30 is okay
# Feb 07 2004 at 10:31 PM Rating: Decent
I wouldn't exactly call a lvl 40 thief 'high level'.

from the first post of this thread:

"I did this quest with my whm bf at level 30. It's 2 of us + 1 lvl 40 thf. It's really not that big of a deal if you clear the leeches around the ??? first."

not a big deal = easy

with a lvl 40, high lvl, course it is

You think a level 40 is "high" and can solo these leeches? I'd really like to see you try (beastmaster aside, perhaps). A level 40 would have a hard time taking these things on without any help.

Level 70, sure, but 40? Naw.

Seriously. Lv40 is not 'high'. I'm a 51WHM/BLM and have yet to try to finish the NIN quest. One thing is for sure, you do NOT solo 3 NMs at the same time. That is a death wish unless you are at least 20ish levels higher than the enemy. If you can't find a Lv60+ helper, then wait. It's that simple. Don't die trying to get an advanced job.
If any of you are on Cerberus, hit me up. I'd be gald to finish this freaking quest. Samurai is also needing to get done. My name is Vangaia...
Please don't confuse it with the female anatomy. ^^;

Some words of advice: Don't do this quest with a PT of level 30-35 people, or even an alliance of level 30-35 people. If you're in that level range, get one or two high level people to come with you. Beg, plead, barter, bribe, or do all of the above to get some high level folks with you. You'll live a whole lot longer.

Keep in mind it is not the High levelers' duty to haul you around to get your NIN quest. FInd people to help you that are your own level or are higher and want the job. High levelers don't get anything at all for heloing you on this peticular quest, unlike say the avatars quests.

Some clarification
# Jan 18 2004 at 2:29 AM Rating: Decent
A couple things from someone who just finnished this quest:

1. I believe this quest is doable for a full group of lvl 30s. I hade a group with 4 lvl 30s one 49 and a 38. We had little difficulty with the leeches.

2. Ayame (spelling?) is not a ninja! Someone posted earlier that it seemed wierd that she carries a samuri sword and that the quest didn't add up. The final animation states that she is a samuri, not a ninja. I would elaborate, but I don't want to ruin the story for anyone.

The NM Leechs better not be Jammer Leechs cuz they hit me for 403 DMG
RE: .
# Jan 16 2004 at 11:11 PM Rating: Default
lol, i had a run in with the jammer leeches too.
they hit me for 299 and 301 then i died... those things are crazy :(

the next day i found the correct spot where the korroloca leeches were.
i had a nice JP taru red mage help me. he was anon, but he was wearing his AF gear so im guessing he was around lvl 70. he cast protect IV on me and a few cure IIIs, and i practically soloed the leeches myself. i used cyclone and it took all three of the the leeches HP down 1/4 :) i was quite surpised how much i was evading them also, however there is no way i could have solo'ed this.
the whole fight took about 3 min, not too long, and when it was over i thanked the little taru and did a couple of /bows and /kneels and thank yous^^ through the translator and went back to bastok to finish the quest.
btw i am a lvl 42thf/21 war +18 agi +8 dex after meat mithkabob :)

If you really couldn't find anyone to help you, you could just wait at the spot and hope a high lvl does it for someone else, then click on the coral after they kill the leeches.

So long as the leeches die theres a grace period for anyone.
