Summary

Ensetsu wishes to reclaim an item he has sold to the Tenshodo, but they will not exchange it for anything other than a Strangely Shaped Coral (key item) from the Korroloka Tunnel. You must go and retrieve it for him.

Walkthrough

Talk to Kaede at (J-5) in Port Bastok to begin this quest. After the cutscene, go talk to Kagetora in Warehouse 2, then talk to Ensetsu, who will ask you for a favor.

Make your way to the Korroloka Tunnel. If you're level 30+ (maybe less, but my group and I were at least 30) you shouldn't have to worry about too many aggro mobs. Mobs of interest that should be noted are jellies, bogies, and jammer leeches.

  • Follow the path until you can go left and straight. Turn left at (K-8).
  • Follow the path until you come out the other side, proceed left.
  • When you reach the bridge at (G-9), turn right and cross to the other side.
  • Proceed left. When you reach the junction point between going right and left (D-8), go right.
  • Follow the path, it will go outside, and back in to another tunnel. Continue to follow it until you can go left or right (H-8). Go left.
  • There is usually a lone jelly at this point a party of 3 or more with 1 healer shouldn't worry about it hurting you too much.
  • Continue straight and enter the cave on your left (F-9).
  • Continue to follow the path. DO NOT cross the bridge, simply continue along the right wall.
  • Continue to follow the path until you can go straight or right (H-11). Go right.
  • After this point, you may need to be very careful of Bogies, keep a look out and be ready for them. Invis/Sneak/Deodorize and you can get by.
  • Keep going straight and you'll cross another bridge.
  • When you can go left or right (H-8), go right.
  • Follow that path and at the end of (I-7) turn right again. Bogy warning, one can be waiting for you, maybe 2. They have a large aggro/link range. Proceed with caution.
  • Follow that path, you may or may not see several Bogy. Whether you spell up and run by or fight them, it is your choice.
  • At the end of the path, turn left and go straight to the ??? point.
DO NOT CLICK THE ??? until your group is prepared to fight 3 Korroloka Leeches.

After the leeches are killed, quickly click on the ??? point to get a key item: Strangely Shaped Coral. Head back to Bastok and talk to Ensetsu again. He will send you to Norg. It is recommended that you set your home point to Bastok to make things easy.

If you have never been to Norg before, take the airship to Kazham. Rent a chocobo and head down to the south end of the zone. Fall down one of the holes and head behind a waterfall at (E-11). This is the entrance to Sea Serpent Grotto. Make sure you have Sneak up and hug the right wall until you reach a Stone Door. This will eventually lead you to Norg.

Talk to Ryoma, who is standing near the docks. He will give you a key item: Sealed Dagger. Return to Ensetsu one more time for a cutscene. You will then be able to change jobs to a Ninja.

Battle Details

  • Kill any Thread Leeches near the ??? point, as when the 3 leeches spawn they will link.
  • Should the person that touched the ??? point die, and group members happen to escape unharmed and without aggro. DO NOT RAISE the fallen member unless the Korroloka Leeches are killed. After the timed-event has passed and they vanish, the instant the person who originally touched the ??? point is raised, they will re-appear and more death will result.

I did this last night and had a hella fun doin it. Me, a guy from my ls, and another guy who wanted nin ptyed up and were lookin for more. So we looked for almost an hour for more help wen some lvl 61WAR/Sam says he'll help us. I'm like..AWESOME. So my ls friend had to leave so it was just the three of us. We headed to the tunnel and found a pty of 5 at the ???, 2 dead. So we waited for the dead to go to home point and we hit the ???. But, the WAR wasn't ready, i guess, and i got killed. But no one got the coral anyway cuz someone else from the other party killed one of the leeches. So all of us finally met back up in the tunnel and decied to alliance. We beat the leeches and 4 of us needed coral. We got back to bastok when the WAR said he had to go. We thanked him a bunch and then the 6 of us partied. 4 of us needed and 2 were gonna escort. So we made it all the way to norg, got the dagger, and then ninja was ours. Fun, but, tricky quest.

i soloed leeches in korrolka with my war50/whm25

before fight, i clared the place and got my tp to 300%

When fight started, i used my tp and activated 2hr.

first one died very easy. I casted Divine Seal + cure III once when the second leech had about 1/3 hp left.

battle didnt really last long...

Just killed the leeches with me(30thf/15war), 50 rdm, and 41mnk. This was really easy, but just make sure you're close enough to the coral to activate the leeches, and retrieve the peice.
Not a good idea >.<

It IS a good idea to read a guide on the internet wrote by fellow player's and its NOT a good idea to just go by a guide that's in the FFXI guide book. If you make my mastake you end up Hunting for the spawn point of hours, Finding it, and then dieing cause you thought it was only 1 leech and you thought you could handle it at Lv.51. BLM's are usless at tanking anything.
These Leeches do alot of damage. But then My def is crap. Good Luck!

Just to get it updated, I just finished the first part to this.

Party was a 45 RDM, 54 THF, 28 RDM, 31 WAR (me)

We didn't have any real problems... the 54 THF took care of really every thing. My personal thoughts..

A party of 30-35 lvl PC with a WHM and a RDM could do this with out a problem. SNEAK is a must...

A party of 6 lvl 30's shredded them. By the way, if you're in a party, you only have to kill the mob once. Everyone can touch the ??? for a coral after that.

The leeches are the only hard part about this quest.

As PLD (lv49 at the time) I probably could've soloed them. I took a Bard with me for Horde lullaby just in case.

Easy as pie when the other two leeches are snoozing.

I just soloed (almost) the Leeches as a Taru 45RDM/22BLM. I went in with Phalanx, Protect 2, Shell 2, Stoneskin, Aquaveil, Enfire, Blaze Spikes, Refresh, and Regen cast on myself. I put one of them to sleep right away, and started hacking at the first one. I had some TP built up, so that was a good start. As soon as I could, I was able to put the 2nd one to sleep. Just before I killed the first leech, the 1st one I put to sleep woke up, but no problem.

After about half-way through pounding on the 2nd Leech, I got the only outside help through the battle, some other RDM was passing through and cast Cure 4 on me, which did help.

When the battle was all over, I had almost full life, with 88 mana left (of 480). I'm thinking I could have done it without the outside heal, but it would have been close.

I am lvl 30MNK and can not activate the Ninja Flag Quest. I have spoken to Ensetsu twice and the quest has not activated. Do I need a certain level of Tenshodo fame in order to start this quest?

BTW I have already started the Samuria Flag Quest if that helps.

Ok, sorry everyone. Disregard this post; I was being an idiot. You have to speak with Kagetora before talking to Ensetsu.

Did this last night in a pt of 4, 36thi/war, 40pld/war, 40war/thi, 45rdm/whm. The leeches made a dent but not a huge one, I think we were all in yellow life by the end. Just a suggestion, and what worked for us. Have someone sleep two of the leeches after the initial ??? click, much easier to fight them one at a time. Personally, I was the thief, I used Perfect Dodge, clicked on the question, engaged 1, and had our rdm sleep the other two (which were conveniently missing me).

You click on the "???"

That's how it shows up in game.

You target it and it shows "???"

Come on, you've had to have come across something like that by now. There are tons of spots that show up as "???"

OK, I'm going to do my best not to offend anyone here but stating that it's 'easy' because you're a level 50 doesn't really do anything. I mean you got to level 50, and at least YOU did it, and you weren't some level 30 with the help of level 50's. What I suggest is, just for fun, hop on a level 32 Samurai, or your 30 Warrior, just to see that it wasn't exactly easy for those of us who did it with levels 30-34. Then tell me it was easy.. ^^

Ensetsu says at te end of te quest "I do not have much to offer you, but take this as a token of my appreciation. It was my wife's." I checked my invinetory and no new items... I guess the Ninja job is what he was talking about?

Yeah, the only thing you 'get' from him is the ability to change job class to Ninja. I thought the same thing as you. hehehe ^^

Maybe he really means take his WIFE as a gift. Sometimes people do that you know.

The NPC in Norg is named 'Ryoma' he is standing on a slight ledge on the left hand side near the water in the first large room. If he says somethin glike "Go Away" then you forgot to go back to bastok after killing leeches.
Soloing leeches
# Feb 10 2004 at 7:05 PM Rating: Default
well, i managed at lvl 48 to take em down by myself-but it wasnt' a walk in the park.

i was a drk and had rdm subbed. If you plan on soloing these and arn't 50+ i'd highly recommend subbing a mage of some kind and perferably something that had sleep.

All i did was kill a few of the thread leeches, get tp high enough for an initial WS-then i buffed and healed up. started the battle with my AOE ws then slept one of the leeches. Though i didn't try it binding one and pulling one seperate could help out and save you a few hits-but i just waled on the one for a while, healing/draining once-then tried to make quick work of the second-and sleeping the other again asap. if you slip up on your tactic you'll prolly end up usin your 2 hour-but it's definitley soloable for those 45+ or so, 45 if you're REAL good, 50 should be pretty much like three easy/weaks at once

Im sure having the extra MP was useful in the battle, but I would not suggest going alone regardless.... Healing yourself is nice but that is also time wasted.. but hey who am I to say ('-') good job soloing those guys!

Not easy
# Feb 07 2004 at 2:47 PM Rating: Default
Yea this quest is definitely NOT easy. I brought a lv 49 dragoon with me and I was 36 whm, we both got pounded pretty good. I used Divine Cure III and Benediction, drained all my mp and we both almost died. A normal party less than lv 38-40 would probably have been killed quite easily. So please make sure you're ready to handle it.

# Feb 05 2004 at 5:31 AM Rating: Default
Did this as a 36 whm with a 43 pld. Let pld aggro all 3 and did not heal till pld was out of MP. Used divine seal and cure3 once, but PLD accumalated so much hate, the leech didn't bat an eye.

Just kill 1 leech at a time, and clear area of other leeches before you hit the ???. Ninja is an expensive job so I suggest there is no need to rush in getting it. Just level some class high enough to support the ninja before you get it.

The importance of that post is that the JP players were willing to help an NA player, take time out of what they were doing, for nothing in return. I've been helped randomly by JP players more than NA players, and i speak English! If i had shouted the same msg, i would have probably gotten some response in English that i'm a cheap ******* or something.

I just did this quest with my linkshell, we had 8 people in total, 3 level 31s, 2 30s, 35, 37, and a 25, for the most part it was not too bad, and we managed to kill off all 3 with only 1 person dying. and about the person who posted saying he found the easy way was to go on a level one touch the coral then die... how does that get you what you need? you have to actually kill the leeches before you can get the coral.
