Summary

Ensetsu wishes to reclaim an item he has sold to the Tenshodo, but they will not exchange it for anything other than a Strangely Shaped Coral (key item) from the Korroloka Tunnel. You must go and retrieve it for him.

Walkthrough

Talk to Kaede at (J-5) in Port Bastok to begin this quest. After the cutscene, go talk to Kagetora in Warehouse 2, then talk to Ensetsu, who will ask you for a favor.

Make your way to the Korroloka Tunnel. If you're level 30+ (maybe less, but my group and I were at least 30) you shouldn't have to worry about too many aggro mobs. Mobs of interest that should be noted are jellies, bogies, and jammer leeches.

  • Follow the path until you can go left and straight. Turn left at (K-8).
  • Follow the path until you come out the other side, proceed left.
  • When you reach the bridge at (G-9), turn right and cross to the other side.
  • Proceed left. When you reach the junction point between going right and left (D-8), go right.
  • Follow the path, it will go outside, and back in to another tunnel. Continue to follow it until you can go left or right (H-8). Go left.
  • There is usually a lone jelly at this point a party of 3 or more with 1 healer shouldn't worry about it hurting you too much.
  • Continue straight and enter the cave on your left (F-9).
  • Continue to follow the path. DO NOT cross the bridge, simply continue along the right wall.
  • Continue to follow the path until you can go straight or right (H-11). Go right.
  • After this point, you may need to be very careful of Bogies, keep a look out and be ready for them. Invis/Sneak/Deodorize and you can get by.
  • Keep going straight and you'll cross another bridge.
  • When you can go left or right (H-8), go right.
  • Follow that path and at the end of (I-7) turn right again. Bogy warning, one can be waiting for you, maybe 2. They have a large aggro/link range. Proceed with caution.
  • Follow that path, you may or may not see several Bogy. Whether you spell up and run by or fight them, it is your choice.
  • At the end of the path, turn left and go straight to the ??? point.
DO NOT CLICK THE ??? until your group is prepared to fight 3 Korroloka Leeches.

After the leeches are killed, quickly click on the ??? point to get a key item: Strangely Shaped Coral. Head back to Bastok and talk to Ensetsu again. He will send you to Norg. It is recommended that you set your home point to Bastok to make things easy.

If you have never been to Norg before, take the airship to Kazham. Rent a chocobo and head down to the south end of the zone. Fall down one of the holes and head behind a waterfall at (E-11). This is the entrance to Sea Serpent Grotto. Make sure you have Sneak up and hug the right wall until you reach a Stone Door. This will eventually lead you to Norg.

Talk to Ryoma, who is standing near the docks. He will give you a key item: Sealed Dagger. Return to Ensetsu one more time for a cutscene. You will then be able to change jobs to a Ninja.

Battle Details

  • Kill any Thread Leeches near the ??? point, as when the 3 leeches spawn they will link.
  • Should the person that touched the ??? point die, and group members happen to escape unharmed and without aggro. DO NOT RAISE the fallen member unless the Korroloka Leeches are killed. After the timed-event has passed and they vanish, the instant the person who originally touched the ??? point is raised, they will re-appear and more death will result.

No Time Limit On ???

As a side note: There is no time limit on the ??? after killing the 3 Korroloka Leeches.

The WHM in our party was killed (because he felt smacking the leeches for 3pts of damage was more worthy than healing himself or the team).

It took 40 minutes for him to get a raise (HP in Bastok). After getting the raise, he touched the ??? and did not spawn the 3 leeches again. It should also be noted that he did not initially touch the ??? to spawn them in the first place, but I don't think that affects if there is a time limit or not.

So, again, after defeating the Leeches, you are not timed as to when you can get the coral. Whether you zone or not before touching the ??? is unknown to reset the ???.

Hi all! Just wanted to share that I soloed the Korrolka Leeches as a RDM50/WHM21.

As stated above flag quest info, kill all the other leeches in area first. I buffed up (Protect III, Shell II, Stoneskin, Blink, Aquaviel, Haste, Blaze Spikes) and rested to full MP [also had Convert ready to use].

I found a good position before I checked the ??? (good view of battle area); as soon as the three leeches appeared I hit one with Sleep II and another with Sleep; then I focused on killing one. Just before the first one died the second one I hit with Sleep woke up... no problem though as I engaged it with auto-targeting when the first one died.

During the battle with the second leech, the third woke up... so I switched targets and hit it with Sleep II again and then switched back to the second leech. Killed the second one and healed and buffed up again then engaged the third. As soon as the last one died I immediately checked the ??? again and got the coral. Yay!! Back Port Bastok and then to Norg... then, NINJA vanish!! LOL

NOTE 1: I did use Cure II, III, Blaze Spikes, Regen and Refresh throughout the battles. I didn't bother to recast Blink after start of fight. Didn't need to Convert; wow! that was unexpected!
NOTE 2: If you are below lvl40 be careful as there are many Bogy (25-33) in the immediate area.

I (blm54/whm27) along with a war30/whm14 just killed the leeches. I kept the war on sneak the whole way there and we didn't pick up any aggro. A different pt killed the leeches a few minutes before we got there so we had to wait around 15 minutes before the "???" would pop the leeches. The war spent the time building TP by killing the surrounding thread leeches. We buffed up, popped the leeches and I activated my 2-hr and just nailed them with a few -ga II's. The fight didn't last more than 60 seconds. If you get "There is nothing out of the ordinary here," after killing the leeches, just keep clicking the "???"; It took me a few clicks before I got the coral.
just did it

Got the flag!

I did the coral part with a Lv.60 PLD..the thing you have to watch out for is that, when you click on ???, the Leeches are after YOU! Make sure your partner is close to you, or you'll be leech meat in no time. The Norg part was complicated, the road to Norg is so confusing, even with a map, I just hate those jungles, once you jump down the hole, you're there for a while. Anyway, I got the flag and NIN kicks @$$!

I just soloed the three leeches as a 46rdm/23blm

I built up my TP to 300 by killing the two thread leeches. After that I buffed up with blink, stoneskin, phalanx, enspell, spike, and refresh.

After I clicked the ???, I activated chainspell and dumped 4 aeroga on the leeches, elemental seal <sleep2> one of them, used 300% TP on one of them, cure 3 myself.

By this time the first leech was dead, I finished the 2nd leech and sleep 2 the last leech again. Then convert, rebuff, heal, then finished off the last leech.

It was a nice accomplishment. I came out with about 350hp and 150mp left.

I went to fight the leeches with a group consisting of a 35 SAM/WAR (me), 41 WHM/BLM, 45 RDM/???, and 30 RDM/BLM. The 30 RDM decided to click the ???, which was mistake #1 and led to his quick death, but after that we did okay. The WHM had to use her 2-hour, and for a bit, things looked pretty grim, but we did it. I gotta say, though, this battle was a lot of fun.

I just finished this up a few days ago. I had a level 55WAR/27NIN with me. He killed all 3 of the leeches (I did help, a little) and he still had about 3/5 of his hp left. But yeah, as a 30WAR/15MNK, I would have been toast. As for doing this in a party, I am not sure what the requirements would be, but the leeches are supposedly level 35, so I'd recommend a party of around 40 since there are 3, but don't quote me on that.

Make sure you are looking at the right type leeches. There is a spot with three NM leeches called Jammer Leech. These are level 70, and will quickly eat any party alive, or even larger ones.

Glad you got it done!

As a challenge though, I'd try it with a full party (or an alliance) of levels 30-34 ^^

You can see where the real challenge comes in, and why we say it's hard at that level! =D

Congratulations on getting it!

Lol, it really doesn't make any sense to say that, "it was so easy, all I needed were two 50+ people doing it for me." I tried it last night with two well equiped level 30 DD's and a level 50 bard/whm (for horde lullaby & healing) and we died a painful, painful death. We got a 57 monk to help, and he killed everything fairly easily.
eh?

Korroloka Leeches
# Jun 13 2004 at 11:25 PM Rating: Decent
Just did the coral part with the following pt:

DRG30/WAR15 ELV
RDM36/BLM18 TARU
DRK31/SAM14 ELV
RDM45/SMN22 HUM
BLM30/SMN15 TARU
WAR41/THF20 ELV

It was pretty easy. After clearing the area of the thread leeches, the tank clicked the ???. We slept two and just annhilated them six on one heh. We did a distortion chain on one for 125 pts, so if that helps with you killing them, burst thunder. they should go down no problem.

Hope this helps!

Korroloka Directions

I just wanted to thank whoever it was who put together the directions through Korroloka Tunnel and posted them here for this quest.

It seems easy. Go to K8/L8. That is easy until you realize that there are at least 3 different maps within the tunnel all of which have a K8/L8. Matters are complicated because there are upper and lower levels and it is sometimes difficult to determine which paths lead where. My party spent about 1/2 hour searching for the right spot when I finally got frustrated and pulled this quest up on my laptop. Thank God. If it weren't for these directions I really don't think we would have found it.

I recommend that anyone doing this quest without someone guiding them make sure they have these directions handy from the start.

Also just a note, I went with a party of 6 (overkill I know, but 3 ppl from my linkshell hooked up with 3 others we met on the way) and after we killed the leeches and clicked on the ??? some people got the item right away and others got a message like "Nothing of interest here". I had to click on the ??? 3-4 times before I got my coral. Don't give up. Keep clicking ^^.

Did it last night with me a 47 BLM, a 53 WHM, 50 RDM, and a 48 PLD. So incredibly easy, it took long to wait for them to respawn because someone had fought them like 2 minutes before then to actually kill them. They miss alot and when they do hit its for like 20 HP. Which to me is alot only 450HP but im a taru blm so whatever. But they don't like thunder 2 very much, heh. Just didn't feel like walking all the way to norg after it. IMO more of a pain then killing the leeches.

Walking to Norg was horrible!!! We had five people in our party: pld, mnk, thf, brd, and whm. The whm died once and the pld and mnk both died 3 times on the way there. I was the thf. I should have changed jobs to whm in Kazham in order to help with the sneaking but I forgot to. >< The brd and I had to get help in Norg to go back and raise our friends. If you're reading this, thanks Thyfany and Inmk!!! You two have my gratitude!

Soloed this last night as a 53war/26thf without using my 2hr. I bought 5 potions(didn't have to use them:) and sleep arrows. Before the fight I raise my tp to 300%. Battle starts, I sleep all 3, SA+sturmwind= one dead leech. I take the other two out with ease.
