Summary

Ensetsu wishes to reclaim an item he has sold to the Tenshodo, but they will not exchange it for anything other than a Strangely Shaped Coral (key item) from the Korroloka Tunnel. You must go and retrieve it for him.

Walkthrough

Talk to Kaede at (J-5) in Port Bastok to begin this quest. After the cutscene, go talk to Kagetora in Warehouse 2, then talk to Ensetsu, who will ask you for a favor.

Make your way to the Korroloka Tunnel. If you're level 30+ (maybe less, but my group and I were at least 30) you shouldn't have to worry about too many aggro mobs. Mobs of interest that should be noted are jellies, bogies, and jammer leeches.

  • Follow the path until you can go left and straight. Turn left at (K-8).
  • Follow the path until you come out the other side, proceed left.
  • When you reach the bridge at (G-9), turn right and cross to the other side.
  • Proceed left. When you reach the junction point between going right and left (D-8), go right.
  • Follow the path, it will go outside, and back in to another tunnel. Continue to follow it until you can go left or right (H-8). Go left.
  • There is usually a lone jelly at this point a party of 3 or more with 1 healer shouldn't worry about it hurting you too much.
  • Continue straight and enter the cave on your left (F-9).
  • Continue to follow the path. DO NOT cross the bridge, simply continue along the right wall.
  • Continue to follow the path until you can go straight or right (H-11). Go right.
  • After this point, you may need to be very careful of Bogies, keep a look out and be ready for them. Invis/Sneak/Deodorize and you can get by.
  • Keep going straight and you'll cross another bridge.
  • When you can go left or right (H-8), go right.
  • Follow that path and at the end of (I-7) turn right again. Bogy warning, one can be waiting for you, maybe 2. They have a large aggro/link range. Proceed with caution.
  • Follow that path, you may or may not see several Bogy. Whether you spell up and run by or fight them, it is your choice.
  • At the end of the path, turn left and go straight to the ??? point.
DO NOT CLICK THE ??? until your group is prepared to fight 3 Korroloka Leeches.

After the leeches are killed, quickly click on the ??? point to get a key item: Strangely Shaped Coral. Head back to Bastok and talk to Ensetsu again. He will send you to Norg. It is recommended that you set your home point to Bastok to make things easy.

If you have never been to Norg before, take the airship to Kazham. Rent a chocobo and head down to the south end of the zone. Fall down one of the holes and head behind a waterfall at (E-11). This is the entrance to Sea Serpent Grotto. Make sure you have Sneak up and hug the right wall until you reach a Stone Door. This will eventually lead you to Norg.

Talk to Ryoma, who is standing near the docks. He will give you a key item: Sealed Dagger. Return to Ensetsu one more time for a cutscene. You will then be able to change jobs to a Ninja.

Battle Details

  • Kill any Thread Leeches near the ??? point, as when the 3 leeches spawn they will link.
  • Should the person that touched the ??? point die, and group members happen to escape unharmed and without aggro. DO NOT RAISE the fallen member unless the Korroloka Leeches are killed. After the timed-event has passed and they vanish, the instant the person who originally touched the ??? point is raised, they will re-appear and more death will result.

Utter trashing of the 3NM leeches is possible with 60 BLM and PLD. I blizzaga2'd and sleepga'd. PLD beat what little HPs was left into the ground. I don't even think he got hit. Escaped

Directions are right on. Obviously, no aggro at 60 there. I highly suggest a map such as:

http://www.ffxi.blueelephantbrigade.com/maps/Yuhtunga%20Jungle.html

if you aren't familiar with the the jungles. The connections that aren't on the game map are superimposed to aid in navigation.

I was able to do this easy. The pty set up we had was 30thf 50whm 38drk. We beat the leaches no problem, but afterword the lv 30 was unluckly and got aggroed by a bogy and we got jumped by 3, we would haved killed them but the thf auto-attacked a leach and with 6+ mobs on us we died :( But whm had reraise and the rest was easy.

Make sure to really clear the area first and watch out aggro if your brining low lv 30's.

I thought about trying to solo this as a lvl 32 bst, but my friend talked me out of it. He came along as 44 rng.

I used a T scorpion + 2hr, but this was still a tough fight. The main problem was in the beginning getting the hate off us and onto the scorpion. I had to use most of my mp healing the rng before the three leeches were on the scorpion.

We were able to kill two leeches and had the third one 3/4 dead before my pet died. Both of us were in the red by this point too. Lucky for us there was a high lvl rdm in the area who threw us some cures and killed the regular leeches that spawned during the fight.
Overkill

Its very simple for a SMN41 too. I got there a few minutes ago summoned Titan activated Astral Flow and did Earthern Fury to hit all of them for 636 dmg.... Overkill! Had to THFs as backup with me... :)
stubborn ???

I got to the ??? no prob with these directions but then the ??? refused to activate. Just kept getting "Nothing out of the ordinary" for the longest time. Finally it worked, I killed the leeches, then the ??? was stubborn to give me the key item for a few tries. Has anyone else had this? Is there some rules to the ??? that isn't mentioned in this guide? Be nice to post them and save other people some hassle.

Well I wanted to help a guy in my ls out with this quest and thought I could do it as a 46 drg with him as a 31 pld. It was a close fight with him dying with the third leech at a quarter health and not being able to get a raise.
So I promised him I'd help him out as soon as I got to 49 and had Penta Thrust. Three lvls and a ws that kicks *** really made a world of difference. I built tp and started the fight off with a 712 dmg Penta which outright killed the first leech. I then engaged one and voked the other. The second leech fell in about a minute and I had enough TP for a second Penta on the third leech which only did 476 because of att down. It died shortly thereafter and My friend got the coral.
Do I need fame?

I thought you needed fame for this quest or do you need it to get the Utsusemi: Ichi scroll?

I solo'ed it with taru level 50 blm\whm.
I had 602HP and 629MP.
I buffed with Aquaveil, blink, regen and *only* protect I.
I started the battle with Elemental Seal >> Sleepga. I ,then, killed the first leech with Thunder II,Bliz II, Aero II. I killed it just before the other two woke up. Then, I started blasting them with *ga and used Divine Seal >> Cure III to heal. The battle was managable and fun. It could potentially be a little problem for Taru blm at this level if your spells get interrupted. I wore all RSE peices as i needed the protection and the extra HP. I wouldnt go in this battle as level 50 blm with party armors with little protection. These leeches hit us fragile Taru hard and fast.
I dont think i can take all 3 at the same time either. So sleepga them first certainly helped.

Just soloed this as 45PLD/22WAR. Used a rolanberry pie and 2 bottles of yag drink for extra mp, 2 houred at the beginning of the fight, when I was done I had 240 HP left and 14 MP left.

Managable but by no means a peice of cake.

46 Monk just soloed them yesterday.

I cleared the room first and had TP at 300%. Activated Dodge, Focus, Zerk. Popped a mithkabob and touched the ???.

I started with Raging Fists against the first Leech, taking more than half its HP, then used Hundred Fists. After that is what pretty much over.

These things hit very hard, hitting me for about 45 a pop. I was at about half my HP by the time I engaged the second one, but once you beat the first you take far less of a beating. I had 296/1022 after it was over. Very thrilling fight.

Ok, I'd like to thank whoever wrote this guide for sending me on a 1 1/2 hour wild goose chase through Korrolaka. The first 1/2 of these directions can be completely ignored and replaced by telling someone to walk thru the main segment of the tunnel until you get to the morion spawn area on the west side at H-9. You literally can just walk from the Zehrun mines straight thru to that cave at H-9. You don't have to go through any of those turns and twists before that. I wish whoever wrote these directions a nasty case of explosive diharrea

All the people bragging about how "easy" the quest is should probably realize that it's tuned to a level 30 party. Saying it was easy has all the relevance of saying that it's easy for a level 20 to beat a level 5 quest. It's not really impressive.

It's just mindless bragging. Seriously. "omgz I beat the level 30 party quest as 50 easy lol owned" seriously...
Easy

The NIN quest was by far the easiest quest that i have ever done. i had a lvl 50RDM and lvl 54THF we went there and SLAUGHTERED those damn leeches but after that on our way back we got owned by a NM but it was kool cause we got a ghetto warp. after that the trip to Norg was long and boring but the mobs there were easily dodged
Wow..

Judging by the posts here, I thought my friends and I would have a hard time...boy, was I wrong. Our party was:
(on Cerberus server)
Blackarms: 43 War/Monk
Darkcow: 42 WHM/BLM
Vacious: 40 BLM/WHM

Since we're pretty against getting others to do our dirty work, we do everything ourselves, which meant we 3 were doing this alone. We went, started the quest, (thanks to the poster who corrected the guide for me), and headed out. We get to the Tunnel, and had a hard time finding the spot, so we asked for a guide. A guy, Keel, offered to show us, and we were on our way. Got aggro from 3 bogy-type creatures (they have so many different names >.<), a giant, a Sea Monk...but we were fine. Once we got to the spot, we killed off all the aggro'd monsters, and got ready for the fight. Getting anxious, we counted down to the moment Blackarms would click the ???. Here comes the leeches, so Vacious immediately casts sleepga. We're all thinking we have a slim chance of beating these things. So Blackarms starts on the first leech, then uses his 300 TP attack (using his Great Axe), and after a Fire II from Vacious, leech #1 was dead. X.x Say whaa? Moved on to the next one, and Vacious nuked like mad, since it wasn't hitting him very hard (that's saying a lot for a BLM taru in Wonder gear). Second down. Killed off the third in no time flat, and ended up being out of the Tunnel in under 4 minutes or so (the fight, then escaping). Wow, and to think some of you used high level people to go get it for you....we smashed these things to pieces, and with only three of us. This battle isn't as hard as some make it out to be, so don't feel threatened to whine and call for help from higher levels, when you can get REAL bragging rights by fighting it yourself. The fight isn't "easy" unless you work hard enough to do it yourself. And that's the story; "You can now become a Ninja!"

PS: Also had to mention, Darkcow never had to cure the BLM or Warrior, and both mages still had a ton of MP left over...no one ever touched yellow in HP. ^_^

50DRK/WAR (me), 42RDM, and 30WAR. Me and the RDM already did the quest.

Built up some TP, told the WAR to use defender, and he hit the ??? (way back when I initially did it, the 30WAR that touched the ??? died very fast, and we had a 60+ PLD helping us)

Spinning slash to get hate, RDM then slept, then picked them off one by one. With the exception of the WAR getting into the yellow from the initial onslaught, it was a pretty easy fight.

I headed into Korroloka with a 55 Paladin, all three leeches went down under 5 minutes. The paladin only had to use cure III once. Getting to Norg wasnt a problem since ive been there before to do the Samurai flag quest.
