Summary

Ensetsu wishes to reclaim an item he has sold to the Tenshodo, but they will not exchange it for anything other than a Strangely Shaped Coral (key item) from the Korroloka Tunnel. You must go and retrieve it for him.

Walkthrough

Talk to Kaede at (J-5) in Port Bastok to begin this quest. After the cutscene, go talk to Kagetora in Warehouse 2, then talk to Ensetsu, who will ask you for a favor.

Make your way to the Korroloka Tunnel. If you're level 30+ (maybe less, but my group and I were at least 30) you shouldn't have to worry about too many aggro mobs. Mobs of interest that should be noted are jellies, bogies, and jammer leeches.

  • Follow the path until you can go left and straight. Turn left at (K-8).
  • Follow the path until you come out the other side, proceed left.
  • When you reach the bridge at (G-9), turn right and cross to the other side.
  • Proceed left. When you reach the junction point between going right and left (D-8), go right.
  • Follow the path, it will go outside, and back in to another tunnel. Continue to follow it until you can go left or right (H-8). Go left.
  • There is usually a lone jelly at this point a party of 3 or more with 1 healer shouldn't worry about it hurting you too much.
  • Continue straight and enter the cave on your left (F-9).
  • Continue to follow the path. DO NOT cross the bridge, simply continue along the right wall.
  • Continue to follow the path until you can go straight or right (H-11). Go right.
  • After this point, you may need to be very careful of Bogies, keep a look out and be ready for them. Invis/Sneak/Deodorize and you can get by.
  • Keep going straight and you'll cross another bridge.
  • When you can go left or right (H-8), go right.
  • Follow that path and at the end of (I-7) turn right again. Bogy warning, one can be waiting for you, maybe 2. They have a large aggro/link range. Proceed with caution.
  • Follow that path, you may or may not see several Bogy. Whether you spell up and run by or fight them, it is your choice.
  • At the end of the path, turn left and go straight to the ??? point.
DO NOT CLICK THE ??? until your group is prepared to fight 3 Korroloka Leeches.

After the leeches are killed, quickly click on the ??? point to get a key item: Strangely Shaped Coral. Head back to Bastok and talk to Ensetsu again. He will send you to Norg. It is recommended that you set your home point to Bastok to make things easy.

If you have never been to Norg before, take the airship to Kazham. Rent a chocobo and head down to the south end of the zone. Fall down one of the holes and head behind a waterfall at (E-11). This is the entrance to Sea Serpent Grotto. Make sure you have Sneak up and hug the right wall until you reach a Stone Door. This will eventually lead you to Norg.

Talk to Ryoma, who is standing near the docks. He will give you a key item: Sealed Dagger. Return to Ensetsu one more time for a cutscene. You will then be able to change jobs to a Ninja.

Battle Details

  • Kill any Thread Leeches near the ??? point, as when the 3 leeches spawn they will link.
  • Should the person that touched the ??? point die, and group members happen to escape unharmed and without aggro. DO NOT RAISE the fallen member unless the Korroloka Leeches are killed. After the timed-event has passed and they vanish, the instant the person who originally touched the ??? point is raised, they will re-appear and more death will result.

I'm not sure if it has been posted or not, but you only have to engauge and kill a single leech, not all 3 and stil recieve the coral. (i recomend targeting the leech on the far right) Just use a sneak or a silent oil before engauging the ???

I solo'd this as a 32rng/rdm.

I couldnt really buff too much, only protect really. and i had to pick off the first two leeches one at a time with long rest's in between but the actual NM was the worst. I had prepaired for a hairy fight and i had brought along several x-potions.

I just macro'd them and used them as i would a cure. Took 4 x-potions, a (Refresh) juice, and a meat chiefakobob. I cast dia on the leech and then pounded away with arrows and barage, sharpshot, etc. I had saved up tp too 300% before i rested but i was at like 180% when the fight started. I ended up almost dieing, then after 3 xpotions i used my 2 hr and killed the thing.

It was a pretty intence fight and i wouldnt recommend it unless you're really bored. I just wanted to see if it could be done honestly.

my shopping list to prepare for battle was:

1x Meat Chiefakabob
12x Prisim Powder
12x Silient Oil
6x X-Potion
1x Yaugudo Drink
and the best gear for my rng i could afford.

I'm WHM 31/BLM 15 and me and a WAR 31/MNK 15 friend took on these leeches and won today! Our strategy: use sneak to get to the leeches, it wasn't hard. First task is to clear the hall of the 2 leeches that spawn to avoid links. Then I buffed us up with protectra/shellra/regen and blink/stoneskin/aquaveil for me.

Cast Sneak on the War, and he went and activated the coral to spawn the leeches. As noted before, sneak does keep them from aggroing immediately. We stood in the hallway and the War pulled the leech farthest to the right with his boomerang. Paralyze and Slow are a MUST if you're gonna do the leeches at this low a level! The leech hit pretty hard, but I was able to keep up with curing for most of the battle. The War did use his 2-hr after getting hit with attack-down to ensure a victory. By the time we killed the first leech the other two had despawned and we were just able to run up and touch the ??? and get the coral!

I just wanted to post our story to show that this CAN be done without high-level help with a little teamwork. If you go with a solid tank/healer combo, Sneak, and a little strategy you can unlock NIN very soon after reaching 30. The leech gave us 75 exp, so I suppose it conned Tough to level 31. Good luck to all you leech hunters!

Congratulations to my best friend Meely for acquiring Ninja. ^^

Uhm. Maybe I'm not getting something but it seems like he won't give me the quest. I talk to him, then the kid and then the guy in the Teshendo Warehouse. All I get from Ensetsu is "My daughter works at the presidents office". All I get from the kid is "My sister is cool". All I get from the guy in the Teshendo is "Get lost". (Note: These are generalized)

I don't think this is what I should be hearing. I have tried talking to them all in various different orders. And yes for the love of god I am above level 30 and have pretty much capped Bastok Fame. Help? Or is this what I should be hearing?

I did this yesterday solo as a 34rdm 17whm. First I buffed up fully, stoneskin/phalanx/blink/protect ii/shell/enblizzard - ate some sushi, then took out the two leeches near the ??? (they checked easy prey). Rest again, rebuffed up, yaguddo drink, cast sneak, then moved back a bit, cast Dia II on the far right leech, it came alone.

Usual RDM stuff, slow, blind, paralyze, then hit it constantly with my sword, it did try to use its Regen, so I cast Dispell on it, so that helped a lot, ended up with about 30% MP left and 1/2 health (Cure III works wonders).

The worst part is the 2 leeches near the spawn spot, if they are both EP, its a lot easier, sleep one, kill the other, if you can kill them both quick you can do the NM's.

In the end I got 68xp and people in my LS wondering who I got to help me O_o

I just soloed these leeches as a 43RDM/21BLM. Redhobbit was right, cast sneak on yourself before you click the ??? and the leeches will pop with no aggro. At this point, pull one if you can. Also, before you even click the ???, buff yourself up with stoneskin, phalanx, blink, protect II, shell II, refresh, regen, etc.etc. if you have them. I also used a meat mithkabob for more damage.

I tried to pull one with Dia II, but ended up pulling two of the leeches, and brought them out as far as I could away from the third leech, who sat the ENTIRE time at the very spot he appeared. I slept the second one, then proceeded to kill the first. It dropped dead, just as the second one woke up. So I slept it again, rebuffed all my spells, refresh, and kneeled on the ground to get hp/mp up as quickly as possible. When both were in the white, I stood up and attacked the leech. In the middle of the battle of the second leech, I noticed the third leech despawn and disappear. Second leech dropped dead, I quickly cast sneak and ran over to the point. Got my coral.

It CAN be done as a 43RDM. I did it and it wasn't challenging, just some mild strategy. Word of warning though, they DO hit hard and fast, so make sure your buffs are up and enfeeble the hell out of them. Sometimes a critical would hit for over 80-100dmg when the buffs wore off, there were a couple of times I had to recast blink/stoneskin and hope they didn't get interrupted.

Equipment used:
All Mithra RSE Armor
Sword Belt +1 (I think? with the +12 to attack)
Buzzard Tuck
Red Cape +1
Holy Phial
Eremite's Rings
Emperor's Hairpin (not sure if it did much for me, they hit me 9*% of the time)
Meat Mithkabob

If I were to do it all over again, I'd of used a main body armor with more defense (mail) and a helmet.

54 thf / 27 nin.

solod it for a friend. complete walk in the park. friend was whm and gave me protect and shell before fight, i had 300% tp for cyclone and had utsusemi up.

Didn't bother to redo utsusemi once they ate through it. Got enough tp for cyclone #2.

Ended up having taken 207 damage in total. (I told the whm friend not to cure me as I wanted to see how well i'd do lol).

So there you go- I was expecting it to be a lot worse.

One thing that made it smoother was getting my whm friend who needed quest to sneak up before hitting ??? so i got the aggro, not him. (Got that tip from the whm47 solo story post).

I solo'd these leeches as a 51 DRG/WAR lol that was fun, as soon as the Taru WAR that was poorly equiped spawned them, I voked one, Jumped a second, and High jumped the last to get hate, at that point I had 300%TP Penta Thrust finished one off, meleed the next one dead, and the last one I penta Thrusted and killed, had like half my health left, I swapped my Sniper's Rings for Drake Ring for a stronger Jump, and to keep my Defense, eventhough I didn't need it.

No, you do not need Norg Fame to do the Ninja or Samurai Advanced Job Quests.

But... you DO need Norg Fame to do the Ninjitsu Scroll Quests. But really it wasn't as hard as everyone seems to make it, I was so worried about Fame but after doing the Zinc Ore Quest a bunch of times, next thing I knew, I was ready for the Ninjitsu Quests! ^^

I just solo'd this as a WHM47/BLM23. This isn't a post about how I owned all the leeches though. This is a post about how I got the key item while only killing one leech.

There are 2 leeches in the tunnel near the spawn point. I killed them first as practice. Little rough killing both at once but I figured the juice I brought for the real battle would be enough to get me through. Buffed myself every which way but Tuesday (Aquaveil, Protect III, Shell II, Blink, Stoneskin, Haste, Ice Spikes).

I'd read that the leeches aggro sound so I cast sneak on myself before touching the coral figuring they'd probably attack me anyway. They didn't. I tried touching the coral but it would give me the key item. So I backed up into the tunnel and pulled a leech with slow. I managed to just get the one leech. I killed it and when I almost had it dead, one of the normal leeches in the hallway spawned and linked. When I almost had that one dead, the other one spawned and linked. I was running a bit low on mp, so I slept the normal one that had just linked. The other NM leeches had despawned by this point! I recast sneak in case hitting the coral would respawn them, touched the coral and got my key item. Warped home.

So, in summary, sneak when hitting the coral and you can fight the leeches one at a time. Killing one of the leeches and waiting for despawn is sufficient to get the key item.

Excellent post. You saved me many hours of trying to get a pt together for this. Took my lvl 40 drk and subbed whm, killed the leeches around, snuck, spawned them, pulled one back with poison and won without much problem. Did 2hr, wasn't sure if i had to but I wanted to be safe...plus what else am I gonna drk 2hr for. Funny thing was, as I was killing the one I picked out, a group of 5 on the quest happened upon me and asked me to join. I figured, why not, just in case something bad might happen. They pulled one other leech, we owned it, then by the time the fight was over, 3rd has disappeared, I and the 3 others in that pt on the quest went and got their pieces.

I just finished the first part, and I'm heading off to Norg at the moment. Waiting for the ship to come seemed like as good a time as any to write. ^^

I was planning on trying a solo at 40 MNK, having been told they were level 30-32. I was offered help from a 41 Red Mage LS member, so I waited. I'm glad I did. We killed off the Thread Leeches around it with no trouble, then buffed up. Cures, protects, Regen, I popped a Sole Sushi I had brought, the RDM Converted and Cured. Then I hit the ???.

The three leeches spawned. I Provoked one and ran back, the RDM Bound one and Slept the other, or tried to. The second mob to-be-slept got up close to us before it got slept, then the RDM accidentally engaged it while I beat the snot out of the third. Eventually, we got the second one slept, killed the third, then moved on to the Bound one. Short work from there. Wasn't even very stressful.

The leeches are easy enough to kill by a duo of 40. (The RDM has just recently finished it by going with a 41 PLD) Just try to engage them one at a time, and you'll be fine. Now, my ship is here. Off to Norg!
Soloable @ 51 BST, probably earlier.

CrabFamiliar tanked.
Subbed /blm for Sleep.

Built some TP at first, hoping for my pet to AOE early on and grab all the hate. Didn't work though. CrabFamiliar did Bubble Curtain instead. -_-

Normal otherwise. It took one, I slept another, then had the crab attack the non-slept one. I did this in fisherman's armor, and they did about 40hp per hit on me while I was doing Sleep and waiting for the "Fight" command to cooldown. Got interrupted once during casting, so I imagine it could get pretty hairy if I kept getting multiple interruptions.

These seem like LV 35 leeches.

First I would like to thank GaranTheElvaan for giving me the idea, I'd just like to elaborate and give my own story.

I completly own'd these cute little blobs at 50RDM/23BLM. They said I couldn't do it... well I showed them how awesome Red Mages can be.

Gear:
TK Army Sword
Hard Shield
TM's Coat
Custom Gloves
Red Cape
Merc. Capt. Belt
Magic cuisses(these things are made for red mage)
Custom Boots
Electrum Rings x2
Wing Earings x2
Justice Badge
Red Cap

Food: Melon Pie

Before I engaged I cleared the area of Thread Leeches. And I buffed up: Phalanx, Stoneskin, Blink, Aquaveil, Haste, Refresh, Regen, an En- spell(Enthunder in my case), Protect III, Shell II, And Blaze Spikes. I rested, then triggered the leeches.

Here I cast Sleep II on one leech then Bind on the other, both casts sans-elemental seal and the stuck. And my enfeebling skill is not capped, and my dark skill is far from being capped.

Next I pulled back a little to get out of range of the bound leeches attacks and engaged the remaining leech. The bound leech came unbound when the leech i was fighting was at about 1/4 HP. So I slept the leech that I had came unbound. Finished the 1st leech. I was around 3/4 HP so I used cure III and engaged the another leech. Recast my buffs as the wore.

When Stoneskin fell these guys hit me for ~10-30 with just Phalanx up. ~50 On criticals.

I did use FireII and AeroII when I could spare the MP. These hit for nice chunk of damage.

Finished the 2nd leech fairly quickly, the third leech still sleeping peacefuly. I was relativly low on MP(~70) so I used convert.

Just as luck would have it, the leech woke up after i had converted and interupted my CureIV. So I got off a quick CureIII then slept the leech again. Cured my self up good. Rebuffed. And rengaged.

I nuked the hell out of this little thing, and I used Shining Strike at ~200% TP. He went down fast.

Overall I found this fight really fun, a decent challenge, any Red Mage ~50 should try to solo this lots of fun. Though I'm just out to prove Red Mages are great solo'ers.

When fighting them just keep in mind you won't beable to take on all 3 at once. Sleep/Bind them just keep them sperated. As long as you do that you shouldn't have any problems. Also keep around 70-100 mp when you convert. Be prepared for anything Stoneskin/Phalanx could fall, the could score some quick criticals any thing can happen.

I did not use my 2hr I didn't think it was needed, though if some thing goes wrong and you need to warp out then you might want to have a Chainspell + Warp Macro ready, or a Chainspell + CureIV x 2 macro mapped.

Hoped this helped any Red Mages looking for some fun, or to get Ninja. Now I'm off to Norg to collect my prize.

Soloed these boys. It was tough but I did it with room to spare.

Cleared the leeches in the room, then rested full.
Stoneskin, Protect III, Shell II, Refresh, let MP come back up then cast Enfire and clicked on the ???.

Sleep II on leech, bind one, back off and solo the third one until stoneskin dropped, bound him and sleep II on the first bound leech. back off, stoneskin and refresh.

Fired some arrows at the bound one and paralize/slow while the other two slept. Basically, kept this strategy up the whole fight, with a few burning blades and aero II's thrown in. I had to convert once for MP when things got hairy for a sec and I was tossing spells like no tomorrow. Once the first leech dropped it got alot easier.

Ended fight with about 453/802 hp and 68/398 mp. Took about 7-8 mins. Hope this helps anyone out there looking to solo.
