Summary

Excavate the wyvern egg that lies beneath the Maze of Shakhrami. Protect it from the dragonslayers.

Walkthrough

NOTE: You need to be able to get into the Chateau d'Oraguille. You must be Rank 2 if you live in San d'Oria, or on the Rank 2-3 Mission or Rank 3 or higher for other nations.

Go to Cargo Room A in Port San d'Oria and talk to Arminibit and Ceraulian. Then go to Bostaunieux Oubliette (the prison beneath Chateau d'Oraguille) and talk to Novalmauge. Then go to the Northwest room in the Cathedral and talk to Morjean. Oiheaurese will appear during the cutscene and ask you to bring back an egg.

Buy a pickaxe (more than one to be safe) and head for the Maze of Shakhrami. Look for the excavation point at (G-7), (I-8), or (K-7) and start excavating until you get a Wyvern Egg. Once you find one, go back and talk to Morjean. Yachemidot will appear and offer you an option to hatch the egg.

Yachemidot sends you on a new quest. In Meriphataud Mountains, at the eastern edge of Doragora's Spine is a ??? at (K-8). You'll have to travel around the north side of it and curve around. Trade the egg to it and you will trigger an event. Go back to San d'Oria and talk to Rahal in the Chateau in the Royal Knight's Quarters. The Royal Knight's Quarters is on the left as you enter the Chateau, it takes up the majority of (H-9). Rahal will then give you a key item: Dragon Curse Remedy.

After that, you need to travel to Ghelsba Outpost. At (G-10) you will find a hut with a hidden door. Open this by forcing the lock, which will trigger a cutscene with a dragon named Cyranuce M Cutauleon. Defeat the dragon. You will then be able to name your wyvern and will be flagged to change to the Dragoon job.

The ???? mark is the near the eastern edge(South Side) of Doragora's Spine. You can imagine it's around 20 feets(game distance) from the edge.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 15 2003 at 1:36 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Actually that is not true. Next time you're riding the ship from Selbina and the Sea Horror appears check it to see what it cons.

What's your point...?

The Sea Horror is an NM, so of course it cons "impossible to gauge". My point is that "impossible to gauge" just means it's an NM... it has NO relevance to what level the mob actually is. I don't think I can put it any simpler or clearer.

You're right about Named Monsters (NM)...they are given the status of "Impossible to Gauge" regardless of their difficulty because they are named or special characters. Bubbly Bernie is "Impossible to gauge" because he is a named crab and is rather low level, around 8-10. However Kraken in Qufim is a Sea Horror and is "Impossible to Gauge" and he punks a lvl 5 in no time at all (used a newbie job to suicide for the BST quest), a level 28 BST can tame him though.

However, I'm not sure if that same status is given to EXTREMELY high level creatures as well. Sea Horrors are exactly like their name -- it is a nightmare of a creature & punked me in 1 hit when I was a level 30 WHM. I think the skeleton pirates are that status as well. I don't know, after being attacked by the Sea Horror, I didn't want to take my chances with the pirates. I'm told they are around level 50 or so.

kraken is not an NM and it does not con "impossible to gauge" you must have been hallucinating because I was there 5 minutes ago and it conned incredibly tough.... make sure you validate your statements before you go harping, as for the pirates, which are just wights, they were beaten easily by 2 level 40 red mages, and not just one at a time either... any official NM (which does not stand for "named monster" it stands for "notorious monster" which is supported by the playonline website) will con impossible to gauge, so give it up...

I got egg at F7 first time too and it was also the easiest excavation point to get to if entering from Tahrongi Canyon. I did it as a level 30 rank 2 san d'orian black mage, so again, rank 2 is all you need. Did it with a 70 mnk/whm who was hitting for 50-100 per hit on the dragon, my Stone II did 101 damage to it though so I guess it might be doable with a paladin using 2 hour, whm and 4 black mages or something... maybe... but probably not.

As previously stated, you don't need to start M6 if you're form San d'Oria because you get access to the chateau at Rank 2. It's Bastok and Windhurst citizens who won't be able to get into the chateau until they have started Mission 6.

Yes, thanks for the correction - I see where there could have been confusion and edited my post accordingly. I was referring to the necessity for Bastok/Windhurst citizens to start M6, rather than talking about when San d'Oria citizens would have access to the Chateau.

Two comments.

First off, you're absolutely right about getting high-level JP players to help if you're L30. It is very close to impossible to finish this quest with a group of low 30's, even with potions. I watched a good 30-32 group - PAL, 2xWAR, BRD, BLM, WHM - get massacred by the dragon, and they even had potions. They were doing just fine until the AE breath, but it did more than 400 to the PAL and it went downhill from there. The Taru WHM was oneshotted after gaining aggro.

However, that said, "impossible to gauge" just means that the game won't tell you to level. It's given to all boss/BCNM monsters and NMs. But it certainly doesn't mean that they're difficult; for example, all the NMs are "impossible to gauge" even though the easier ones are about L8-9.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 12 2003 at 11:34 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) im fairly sure you need to be rank 3 in order to do the quest. im rank 2 currently and the 2 guys in wherehouse A i talk to do not talk about the dragoon knights, they tell me to leave.

You do NOT need to be rank 3 in order to GET the quest. There are several DRG on my server who are still rank 2 (and probably on yours, too, just do a /search all DRG), and I doubt that's because they all changed citizenship. As I posted previously, if you are not a San d'Orian citizen then you need to be past the start of M6 in order to enter the chateau. But that has NOTHING to do with talking to the NPCs in the warehouse to start the quest.

Common reasons for being unable to start the quest include not being L30, and not having registered the Rise of the Zilart expansion. Dragoon is an expansion class, so you must have Zilart registered in order to get the quest.

Quest Questions...
# Dec 11 2003 at 8:03 PM Rating: Default
This isn't too clear, so I have some questions:

1-I currently have the Emissary quest started. (I'm from Bastok) If I complete the quest, will I be unable to get the DRG quest? (other than changing nationalities, that is)

2-Do people in your paty need to have the DRG quest in order to fight the Dragon with you? I am planning on making a big alliance with some people from my LS to take the Dragon down.

No, you just need to have access to the chateau. The only way you can get access to the chateau (if you are not a San d'Oria citizen) is to have started M6: Emissary and gotten to the point where you are ready to go to the other countries. You will ALWAYS have access to the chateau after that point.

As for your second question. For these boss fghts, the only people who can enter the BCNM arena are people who are on the same step in the quest that you are on, or people who have already defeated the monster.

About a week or so ago, my LS beat the dragon
THREE times with 6 people in the party each time, levels ranging from 30-35. The first two times, no one even died, and the 3rd time, only 2 people died. So yes, the dragon is easy to beat with a party of 30's

And about the egg, it has a lot of different spawn points on the 1st (main) floor of the maze. It can spawn in any room there that have the bones laying around. And after it's excavated, that point will disapear and it will apear in a random new location. There is more than 1 point existing at a time also. You can usually find at least 1 point in one of the two big rooms on the first floor, but if you can't find any, goto the smaller room all the way to the right and up. You have to fall down a little cliff to get to it, and it usually has several there at a time since no one gets those ones.

If you are not a San d'Oria citizen, you need to have started Mission 6: Emissary (aka M2-3) in order to gain access to the chateau (and the prison). Bastok and Windhurst citizens who have not started M6 will be unable to enter.

Oiheaurese is located in the Cathedral, not the Chateau. You will be directed to find him there after you speak with Novalmauge in the Oubliette.

# Dec 04 2003 at 10:38 AM Rating: Default
no you don't have to be a San D'orian to enter the prison and you actully have to talk to the guy holding the book in the first room to the left in the chateu(sp?) and Oilheruse will appear in a cut scene

1) No they are not, we had a full PT of level 30-35 characters (2WHM, 1RDM, 1 MNK, 1WAR, 1THF) and we were wiped out.
2)The fight is far from fun.
3)there's no loss in pride in asking for help with something you cannot do on your own.

Wehn you manage to do it it was a party of mostly level 30, let me know.

First of all, they've agreed, because they are close friends of mine.

Second, I've asked them because the soloing level is 55+

And how the hell is asking a high level person taking a step back in game play?
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 29 2003 at 8:12 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) you can beat the dragon at lvl 30ish with a full party of 6
What if you had a high level friend?
# Nov 29 2003 at 12:55 AM Rating: Default
What if you had many high level friends, such as 68-70, because I have made many friend that've been that level, and they've agreed to help.

I think it depends on if you want to be more magic based or more tanky.
