Summary

Excavate the wyvern egg that lies beneath the Maze of Shakhrami. Protect it from the dragonslayers.

Walkthrough

NOTE: You need to be able to get into the Chateau d'Oraguille. You must be Rank 2 if you live in San d'Oria, or on the Rank 2-3 Mission or Rank 3 or higher for other nations.

Go to Cargo Room A in Port San d'Oria and talk to Arminibit and Ceraulian. Then go to Bostaunieux Oubliette (the prison beneath Chateau d'Oraguille) and talk to Novalmauge. Then go to the Northwest room in the Cathedral and talk to Morjean. Oiheaurese will appear during the cutscene and ask you to bring back an egg.

Buy a pickaxe (more than one to be safe) and head for the Maze of Shakhrami. Look for the excavation point at (G-7), (I-8), or (K-7) and start excavating until you get a Wyvern Egg. Once you find one, go back and talk to Morjean. Yachemidot will appear and offer you an option to hatch the egg.

Yachemidot sends you on a new quest. In Meriphataud Mountains, at the eastern edge of Doragora's Spine is a ??? at (K-8). You'll have to travel around the north side of it and curve around. Trade the egg to it and you will trigger an event. Go back to San d'Oria and talk to Rahal in the Chateau in the Royal Knight's Quarters. The Royal Knight's Quarters is on the left as you enter the Chateau, it takes up the majority of (H-9). Rahal will then give you a key item: Dragon Curse Remedy.

After that, you need to travel to Ghelsba Outpost. At (G-10) you will find a hut with a hidden door. Open this by forcing the lock, which will trigger a cutscene with a dragon named Cyranuce M Cutauleon. Defeat the dragon. You will then be able to name your wyvern and will be flagged to change to the Dragoon job.

Well it all depends what job you are playing. Getting to lvl 10 is pretty fast and you can solo it pretty easily. After that you need to party. If you are lucky enough you will find party pretty fast. So if you are lucky enough and play a lot, you can reach lvl 30 in maybe a month.

camping out
# Jan 23 2004 at 2:29 AM Rating: Default
i was to lazy to read thru the post, but for those who dont know, if you get stuck inside the burncing circle and your party cant get in and your all alone in the circle, just kneel down and log out, once you log back in you will be outside the circle with no death, happened to me when i did the quest the paladin couldnt get in, so i just sat in the way back from teh dragon and camped out. this should prove to be useful if you end up like that.

When you get in there, just go north, then take the first right you see. Then talk to the guy, and go back. Nothing scary bout that. :P
Everyone needs to be doing the quest
# Jan 19 2004 at 9:58 PM Rating: Default
Like an idiot I did the quest alone up to the point of entering the hut. When I entered I waited so my party could join in. They didn't do any party of the quest but they are all level 40 and up.

I was ALONE!!! To the Idiot saying that the rest of the aprty does not need to be doing the mission. I THANK YOU!!! LOSS of 560 EXP and alot of time. If i knew the rest of the party needed to do the mission have already finished it then I would have them come with me...

Now I'm waiting for them to finish the quest to the point were I am at.... That should take about 2 hours or more! That's with using Warps.

So don't listen to that idiot that says you don't need the rest of the party to be doing the quest.

If you do you will be sorry.

3) it may not have respawned yet, as in someone may have used it before you, now it still has to respawn.

One of two things:

1) The excavation point may be in a different place, like more towards (F-7) I have heard it to spawn.

or

2) You're just unlucky. ;)

No, they do not need to be doing the quest. That said, whoever in the party IS doing the quest must enter the battlefield first. Once the person doing the quest has entered the battlefield, everyone else in your party will be given clearance to enter the battlefield.

The trick here is probably to not move or target the dragon at all until everyone is in the battlefield.

This battlefield is the same location as San d'Oria's Mission 3, and in that mission, the second that you targeted the mobs (you didn't even have to start attacking or start a spell), the battle began, and everyone who was not yet in the battlefield was locked out.

Another possibility is that he has not yet done the quest. There are several missions (and a few quests I think) in this game where you must either have completed the mission or quest, or be in the process of doing it, in order to enter the battlefield. This may be one of those.
Min lvl?
# Jan 08 2004 at 12:56 AM Rating: Decent
has anyone crazy enough to solo this quest? what is the recommanded min lvl if I would to solo this one?
RE: Min lvl?
# Jan 12 2004 at 9:53 AM Rating: Default
I just tried to solo it as a 43drk/13whm. I was able to get the dragon down to about 3 hits left before I died. If I had had a whm with me I could have taken it down with ease. I think I may have even been able to win if I had brought more than 2 pinapple juices =[
RE: Min lvl?
# Jan 08 2004 at 2:33 PM Rating: Excellent
The dragon is pretty tough.

We had a level 73 WAR with us, so by the time I was finished with the cutscene at the beginning of the battle, the dragon was already at 50% health.

That said, the level 30-35 people in my group really weren't doing much damage at all.

Based on what I saw, I suspect that for a melee class, the dragon may be soloable at 50 or 55.
Random or Static?
# Jan 05 2004 at 7:39 PM Rating: Default
Is the Shakrami ??? harvest point random, or is it always in the same location inside the Maze? I was told in is always random? And what is the spawn rate of it? I waited inside there 1 hour with several other TEAMS of people, all waiting to dig ONE egg? Someone tell me this is not so!!!!
RE: Random or Static?
# Jan 08 2004 at 2:28 PM Rating: Excellent
There is no ??? in Shakrami for this quest.

It is an "Excavation Point". The location seems to be random, but within that general area of the cave. We just spammed tab to find it, and didn't have too much trouble. We found it by the some bones in the large room at (I believe) G-7.

final dragon fight
# Jan 03 2004 at 11:41 PM Rating: Good
The dragon is hard, don't expect to solo this dragon at lvl 30. A full group of lvl 30 had a hard time taking it down. It melee for about 50-60 damage on a lvl 30 war. Level 32 blackmage was doing about 140 with water spell. It has atleast 2000 hp maybe a little more. Goodluck.

I was able to talk to the two people.. in the Cargo... then when I tired to enter the Chateau... they didnt let me in... I ran all the way back to Baskot ... and tried to talk to the president... they wouldnt let me in either... HMmmmmmmm any ideas?

A couple people have stated they have deleveled while doing the quest and were still able to complete it at L29. In fact, one of the people I killed the dragon with had just deleveled, and he got DRG anyway.

It seems that you just need to be L30 to get the quest. After you get it, you will be able to complete it no matter what level you are.

Repost from below:

Common reasons for being unable to start the quest include not being L30, and not having registered the Rise of the Zilart expansion. Dragoon is an expansion class, so you must have Zilart registered in order to get the quest.

I can't find the excavation point for the wyvern egg in the maze. I've looked all over F-7, There is nothing there, in fact I have not found one single mining point on the entire first 2 floors at all. What's going on here? -_-

The excavation point at F-7 is in the very middle of the first large cavern area, near the bones. Keep using the [Tab] button to cycle through targets.

Excavation points do actually disappear for a while after they are used, then "spawn" again at what are probably random intervals - so if someone has used the excavation points recently, they won't reappear for a while.

Yeah, I finally found it. After searching everywhere for 2 hours I decided to go to bed, and next morning when I woke up, it was right there in front of me. -_-
Egg Location
# Dec 20 2003 at 3:28 PM Rating: Default
is the egg on the first floor? did you have to already accept the quest/be lv 30 to find it? i searched the f7 on the first floor and excavated to no avail... i asked someone who is alreday a dragoon and he said it was deep in the maze, which makes me thing it may be the f7 on a different floor... anyone know?

It's a very specific quest item and (if I recall correctly) is rare/ex, so yes I'd have to assume you have to have the quest in order to get the egg.

All the DRGs I've talked to got the egg on their first dig attempt (given their picaxe didn't break), so it seems to be one of those items that is given only becasue you have the quest.

And I did get my egg from the F7 excavation point very close to the entrance..

If you aren't from San d'Oria, all you need to do is get to the point in Mission 6 where you are ready to travel to the other nations' consulates. If you are from Bastok, then you need to get the quest, then go talk to the President. After that you will have permission to enter the Chateau.

Don't forget about Samurai for this... you'll have DISGUSTING TP recovery after level 30 or so... That plus pentathrust is just scary.
