Summary

Excavate the wyvern egg that lies beneath the Maze of Shakhrami. Protect it from the dragonslayers.

Walkthrough

NOTE: You need to be able to get into the Chateau d'Oraguille. You must be Rank 2 if you live in San d'Oria, or on the Rank 2-3 Mission or Rank 3 or higher for other nations.

Go to Cargo Room A in Port San d'Oria and talk to Arminibit and Ceraulian. Then go to Bostaunieux Oubliette (the prison beneath Chateau d'Oraguille) and talk to Novalmauge. Then go to the Northwest room in the Cathedral and talk to Morjean. Oiheaurese will appear during the cutscene and ask you to bring back an egg.

Buy a pickaxe (more than one to be safe) and head for the Maze of Shakhrami. Look for the excavation point at (G-7), (I-8), or (K-7) and start excavating until you get a Wyvern Egg. Once you find one, go back and talk to Morjean. Yachemidot will appear and offer you an option to hatch the egg.

Yachemidot sends you on a new quest. In Meriphataud Mountains, at the eastern edge of Doragora's Spine is a ??? at (K-8). You'll have to travel around the north side of it and curve around. Trade the egg to it and you will trigger an event. Go back to San d'Oria and talk to Rahal in the Chateau in the Royal Knight's Quarters. The Royal Knight's Quarters is on the left as you enter the Chateau, it takes up the majority of (H-9). Rahal will then give you a key item: Dragon Curse Remedy.

After that, you need to travel to Ghelsba Outpost. At (G-10) you will find a hut with a hidden door. Open this by forcing the lock, which will trigger a cutscene with a dragon named Cyranuce M Cutauleon. Defeat the dragon. You will then be able to name your wyvern and will be flagged to change to the Dragoon job.

Ive been in the maze for some time now, first floor (don't know if it has a second) and I have yet to see a excavation point at G-7 I-8 E-8 E-7 E-6 all the ones suggested. Im a lvl 30war/10mnk rank3 and have talked with Morjean to start the conversation about them needing a egg. Is the E.point rare or did I skip something?

Keep looking =)

Miners are always mining excavation points. They will respawn in five minutes or so.

Mark them on your map if you find them. Although it probably wont matter. I bet you will get your egg off the first try

I am Windurstian rank 2, and i have accepted The Three Kindoms, all i have to do is accept it right? Well i have and they wont let me in the Chateau d'Orguille, what is the matter?
location of the ???
# Feb 17 2004 at 12:57 PM Rating: Decent
Meriphataud Mountains, as stated, east tip of the dragon spine. ??? is at south side of the spine tip. it is not exactly the tip, but 2, 3 steps away from the end.

btw, watch out for the dancing weapon.. it is T for lvl25 (if you went there with a lower lvl char other than your 30 or higher char)

I tried to excavate egg at E-8 as mentioned earlier by someone.. but i could not locate a excavation point. I went to E-7 and got it... I guess the excavation point spawn randomly.
some tips
# Feb 17 2004 at 12:35 PM Rating: Decent
i camped in front of the hut for help. a *** team let me join them but i couldn't get in!!! I had every step completed(egg and curse remedy). I belive the problem is I did NOT enter BEFORE the leader or the highest lvl member entered the hut. So, make sure you click on the door and force in the hut BEFORE leader/highest-lvl enters.

oh yeah, forgot to mention once u are in, you will see some movie.. then you will be in the court yard with the dragon far away from u.. do NOT target the dragon until the high lvl enters and ready to fight..

Later a lvl71 Monk, also a lady, helped me. she took the dragon down in 1 min and 23 second.. i only dealt 36dmg in one hit(30WAR/15MNK), missed all other swings :p

Well, I went with a MNK30 friend yesterday, and we went to the spot with the two scorpions. We nailed 1 scorpion, a goblin, a ghoul, then the 2nd scorpion aggroed. Apparently they have an attack names "Death something", and it killed my monk friend. I killed the scorpion, then proceeded to train a wendigo that aggroed me along with two ghouls to the zone.

I came back and while I was waiting, I went to E-8 because I'd seen an excavation point there and there's nothing dangerous around there. Use 1 pickaxe, get my egg. Now why in the name of Krom does this quest description send people to the dangerous parts where the mobs will agro lvl 30's when E-8 is much more safer? E-8 is the first open area you get to if you head left when you get into shakrami btw.

Rahal is in the Royal Knights Quarters. You walk into the Chateau and I believe it's on the left. He's just right there.

I had a very nice japanese, level 66 mnk/thf help me with the quest. Let me just say 66 was major overkill the dragon got to half health in about a minute then his dragon kick ws did 600 damage to it to finish it off. I was level 30 and hitting it for miniscule damage. Probably full group if 40 is the lowest you could do it. Also, he had no clue where to go for the quest so I don't think he had ever done it and was still able to enter the battlefield.

did this quest for myself (49 blm), a friend (31 war, didnt fight), and some stranger we found in ghelsba (30 rdm i think, didnt do much except heal me a little)

700 MP was not enough to kill him, had to manafont (blm 2hr) to finish him off. bind worked well, but sleep didnt. thunder and thunder II seemed to really thrash him up

Yes, you will need to accept mission 6 if you are not San d'Orian, but you don't need to finish it (i.e. kill the dragon at Giddeus or whatever). You just need to head into the chateaux via the mission and then you can do the dragoon quest normally. You ought to be rank 3 by that time anyway. =P

I asked a level 51 PLD for help killing the dragon. I was a level 30 THF. He got a 52 RNG to come along, and, as it turned out, the RNG could've soloed it at 50 easily. However, RNG being the biggest damage dealer in the game I wouldn't let that mean "you and any old lv 50 can own the dragon." Anyway, that should give some vantage point for its difficulty.
Egg Point.

Just wanted to add, I went through the Maze and neither of the mentioned points were open, and I died around the jellies. I went back again and I found the Egg in a much easier location. I think it was E-8 (tried to make myself remember, but I forgot the number, it definetly was in the e's). I went passed the first room, then right after the 2nd "hall" on the way to the G-7 location, it was there. The first bone on the left had the e. point, no scorpions or jellies that time :) Had a nice high level (in the high 60s) Dragoon put a beatdown on the dragon for me and a friend, that was a sight to behold, hehe.

Becareful when you fight the Dragoon Dragon. There only 2 people types of people who can go in. Everyone else in your party will be barred from going in.

1. People who are doing the Dragoon Quest AND have finished all the required parts up to this part and NEED to fight this dragon NOW.

2. Anyone who's defeated this dragon and is already a dragoon.

Those are the ONLY 2 types of people that can enter the battlefield. Everyone else will be barred, so becareful.

Egg Location

I had hard time finding these spots & probably cause I was thinking they would be in more difficult areas than they were (well 1 still is, but not as deep as I'd have thought)

One of the excavation points is close to the zone in, just ahead & straight. On a raised area with 1 Scorpion mob is a spot, near the bones. Target a mob & just tab around till you see if its in that spot or the other.

If its not in that one, jump off the ledge left direction from zone in (sorta opposite to how you got on it) & go in the right cave. You'll know this is the correct way when Jelly mobs are in the way. This is the more difficult one to get the egg from. Jellys are agro as are the seeker bats & the other normal agro mobs like wendigos etc.. The jellys con easy, but are from it, they'll beat you down. Have someone help you or try an invis (I didn't have to, but it might work) & up ahead near the other big bones on your right is the other spot. Target & tab around till you find it. I got mine on first dig with pickaxe.

Hope this helps, I know it would've saved me 4 deaths >< I did this at lvl 30 War.

Can you just bring a party or can you bring a full alliance (18) to fight the dragon?

No you can't, as with any boss battle, you can only have a party of 6ppl.

I did this quest as WAR30, I got help with the dragon by a lv61 DRG. Whole AF set and all^^
He used Penta Thrust twice, then Jump and High jump, then it had less than 50% HP...
It was SOO cool!

RE: FIRST STEP IN QUEST
# Feb 04 2004 at 6:28 PM Rating: Default
Reason why you can't get in is cuz your San D'Oria fame is too low. You can fix this by of course doing more quests in San D'Oria. You can bypass this by doing missions also. By starting mission 6, the Three Kingdoms or Journey Aboard, as it's called, you can bypass the fame requirements.

Is it Possible to fight the Dragoon Dragon with a full party of adventures who are 30? Is there a fighting chance or is it suicide? Seems everyone here got this quest with aid from high level Japanese characters.

I wanna know if this quest is doable on our own NA merits, or will be always be at the mercy of foriegn aid.

Now I know how other countries feel about America :).

I did this with all NA people...

...of course, it was a 51 whm, 51 sam, 47 war and myself as a 36 whm...^^;;

A group of 30's would be pushing it...if you don't want to lose any peeps, I suggest high 30's.

I have seen the excavation site twice and both times it was next to a complete dragon skeleton in I-8 and I think it was G-6 not G-7. Don't bother looking anywhere other than near the skeletons. If you don't find the excavation point fairly quickly in one area it's not there go to the other area.
Not THAT hard

So in order for a person to help you you must have what?

1) Done the quest already
or
2) Doing the quest at the time?

is this correct and if they have not done quest and want to help how do i go about doing this, and are these 2 options correct?

Its been my experience that most high lvl players have just about all the advanced jobs unlocked. I mean why not do them all? Esp if you can solo them without breaking a sweat - and it gives you something different to do if you get bored with the same old same old. Heck, I have everything except SMN, NIN, and SAM unlocked (and all I have to do for SMN is get to Beaucidine Glacier for ice). So if you're asking a high lvl player I don't think it will be too much of an issue.
