Summary

Excavate the wyvern egg that lies beneath the Maze of Shakhrami. Protect it from the dragonslayers.

Walkthrough

NOTE: You need to be able to get into the Chateau d'Oraguille. You must be Rank 2 if you live in San d'Oria, or on the Rank 2-3 Mission or Rank 3 or higher for other nations.

Go to Cargo Room A in Port San d'Oria and talk to Arminibit and Ceraulian. Then go to Bostaunieux Oubliette (the prison beneath Chateau d'Oraguille) and talk to Novalmauge. Then go to the Northwest room in the Cathedral and talk to Morjean. Oiheaurese will appear during the cutscene and ask you to bring back an egg.

Buy a pickaxe (more than one to be safe) and head for the Maze of Shakhrami. Look for the excavation point at (G-7), (I-8), or (K-7) and start excavating until you get a Wyvern Egg. Once you find one, go back and talk to Morjean. Yachemidot will appear and offer you an option to hatch the egg.

Yachemidot sends you on a new quest. In Meriphataud Mountains, at the eastern edge of Doragora's Spine is a ??? at (K-8). You'll have to travel around the north side of it and curve around. Trade the egg to it and you will trigger an event. Go back to San d'Oria and talk to Rahal in the Chateau in the Royal Knight's Quarters. The Royal Knight's Quarters is on the left as you enter the Chateau, it takes up the majority of (H-9). Rahal will then give you a key item: Dragon Curse Remedy.

After that, you need to travel to Ghelsba Outpost. At (G-10) you will find a hut with a hidden door. Open this by forcing the lock, which will trigger a cutscene with a dragon named Cyranuce M Cutauleon. Defeat the dragon. You will then be able to name your wyvern and will be flagged to change to the Dragoon job.

Did this on a level 13 Bard...

People were telling me that the excavation point had to be deep inside the Maze, so I decided I'd put it off til I had someone who could get me Sneak/Invis to find it. Well, I was hunting there on my 12-soon-to-be-13 Bard when the group disbanded, I had buffer XP and no way to get home but ghetto warp, so I decided I'd go hunting for an excavation point.

There weren't any in the two main fossil rooms, so I went up on the Maze Scorpion plateau just as a group of 30s killed it and the three gobs that spawned there. I then ran down that hall to the Jelly room, where a Ninja used Tonko: Ichi before I could tell him Jellies aggro by sound, so I was able to get through that room since both of them went after him. Then I ran through a couple more tunnels of mostly non-aggro bats, through the "Fossil Rock" room (just stuck to the walls to avoid the scorpions), then one more tunnel full of leeches. At the end of it all was the big big room with Labyrinth scorpions, and inside I saw not one, not two, but three (!) excavation points!

I ran up to one, used my pickaxe, got it on the first try, then ran back to my safety tunnel. And there just happened to be a 40 BLM there who offered to Warp II me home.

Wow!

Moral of the story: You don't need to go deep to find the Excavation Point, run between the two main rooms of the Tahrongi Canyon side 'til you find one.
Thank you

I'd just like to recognize Tamari, a level 59 taru whm/blm, who helped me defeat the dragon for this quest. Yes, a whm beat the dragon, and was outdamaging me (31 war/mnk)! The one time I stole aggro from her on accident by causing a bit too much damage, I got hit HARD, over 100 hp taken off even with full chain armor. THANK YOU TAMARI!!!

As for the rest of this quest, it took me about 2 hrs, since you need to choco to the eastern continent twice. Bring warp scrolls, you'll save yourself alot of time. The egg hunt was not hard at all, I got mine from a bone excavation point slighty south of G-7 on my first try.

When I went to place the egg on Dragora's spine, I caught some aggro from a Yagudo and then from a Boggart. Thank you to Fatkat who answered my call for help! Make sure the area is pretty safe before you dismount.

I'm not going to say this quest wasn't hard, because I had help. I believe a balanced party of 6 lvl 30s may have trouble with the dragon. I didn't try to round my linkshell together to do this because they would have been mostly lvl 30 warriors with one white mage. That would have been rough ><.

Once again, Thank you to Tamari and Fatkat, its good to see that there are more nice players coming into the game again (at least I am running into more of them now).

Two linkshell friends and I wanted to get Dragoon for ***** and giggles (to have all the jobs unlocked) so we embarked on this quest. I personally thought it would take awhile. However, I was mistaken.

First of all.. the happy egg hunt! From another linksheller's perspective, this was hard to get. So all three of us bought a stack of pickaxes each, thinking that some would break and whatnot before finding an egg. We entered the Maze and I started hitting the 0 (Insert) key like mad, looking for an excavation point. I found one not too far into the Maze (around G-7), and got my Wyvern Egg on my first try. The Excavation Point stayed there, so I called over the other two guys and they got eggs on their first tries on the same spot, as well. Luck? I really don't think so...

As for the dragon.. we were a little unsure about how to go into this. Our party configuration was a WHM 48/SMN 20 (myself), a THF 40/NIN 20, and a WHM 30/BLM 12. I was told by a different linksheller that did the quest that I could solo the dragon by myself. (Don't laugh, I have more defense than some people in other jobs my level, like Dark Knight and Thief!) We were ready to go, however a BLM 66/WHM 33 was in Ghelsba Outpost and agreed to help out. (An NA player, by the way, and also did it without any compensation whatsoever! Thanks again Evilrinoa!)

The battlefield record was 1 min. 44 sec. We cleared it in 1 min. 53 sec. If we had not been a little unsure as to our roles in the party, we could have cleared it earlier.

All mages cast Stoneskin/Aquaveil/Blink while outside the hut waiting for the group in front of us to finish. I cast Haste on the Thief as soon as we were on the battlefield, which was totally unneeded. No MP was spent on Cures. The following occured:

Black Mage cast Thunder III for 538 damage.
Black Mage cast Blizzard III for 455 damage.
White Mage (myself) cast Banishga II for 222 damage.
Black Mage cast Fire III for 259 damage.
White Mage (myself) cast Banishga for 92 damage.
Black Mage cast Water III for 399 damage.

In between were melee hits from the Thief and the two White Mages totalling 365 damage.

Nobody took any damage whatsoever because of the Stoneskin/Blink combos.

Cyranuce M Cutauleon has 1932-2330 HP total. (Water III was what killed it.)

I think soloing it would've been possible, however it wouldn't have been an easy battle. The original party of the Thief, other White Mage, and myself, however, could have defeated Cyranuce easily, just not have gotten as close to the record time. ^^

I'm pretty sure that everyone who is at this point in this quest gets the egg first try, and might or might not break their pickaxe on the attempt. During the Easter egg event, your first mining attempt every game day gave you an initial egg. I know it's not exactly the same, but I'm pretty sure this is set up pretty similarly.
lucky?

my and my friend started the quest last night. when we got to the maze, we started looking for an excavation site. after about 3min of looking we found one. we both picked the egg from the same point and got it on the first try. everybody has had trouble it seems. were we just really lucky?

tried to solo Cyranuce M Cutauleon as a lvl 40 war tonight

i did quite a bit of damage but he killed me while he had about 50% health left.

I have a lvl 44 whm in my linkshell that could help me but...

do your party members also have to be active in this quest to join in on the fight?

More Wyvern Egg hints
# Mar 09 2004 at 3:42 AM Rating: Decent
Ok after all that advice i had trouble finding the egg. spent 3 hours till i got someone to help me.

i have a strategy.start in the first room and follow the bones... through the passage.... more bones keep looking... follow the bones... see a little plateau, sometimes there is a scorpion up there... keep checking... drop down the other side of the plateau... take the left path down... room with scorpions and crawlers and fossil rocks... keep going up the other side... this is where my journey ended because i found my egg.

I spent the first three hours waiting for an excavation point to spawn before that plateau i described. once i went past it i found the egg.

I hope this helps.

I've browsed the comments so far and I haven't seen anyone mention this about the egg point. I entered from Tahrongi, and went into a huge room where I ran around for a long time, avoiding all sorts of really nasty looking aggro gobs, ghouls, etc. (sneak/deodor/invis) looking for any excavation points but found none. I went back sometime later and entered from Buburimu Peninsula (Somewhere near the northernmost point - generally on the west side), ran down a hall, sneak/deodor/invis'd past two goblins, saw an excavation point, got my egg, recast invis, and i was out of there in no time. Probably wouldn't even need a map of Shakrami to do it that way. Did this as a 25 whm/9 rdm (i'm 30 thf, but i chose 25 whm for stealth).

Ways to beat this quest......

This is one of the good story quest for the Advance job. and it's really not hard at all. simply put really easy if you have the right person, who can help you.

1st thing, need level 30 to get this quest. After getting this quest, you could level down to 1 and still be able to complete this quest. So once you get the quest, die, die, die don't matter.

First off, talk to either of the NPC's in Warehouse A in Port San d'Oria. They don't give the quest, but some small conversation to start the story about the lost dragon knight = dragoon warrior.

Then speak to Novalmauge in the Bostaunieux Prison in the basement of hateaux Doraguille. *NOTE* Novalmauge is a guard so he will be patrolling the hallways. Keep looking. and also you need to be rank 3 or at least taking M6 of your nation to get in.

Afterward, return and speak to Morjean in the Cathedral to actually start the quest. (He's very studious, find him by the bookshelf) Can't find him? Well when you first enter the door of the Cathedral, turn left, go through the 1st door you see, after enter that door, turn left and left again, then you will see him. After a small conversation, with him. a dragon-protector will also join the conversation and give you the Actual quest.

Your next task will be to go to the Shakrami Mines in the Windurst region. When inside the Shamkrami maze, take caution. Although you may be tougher than the mobs, they tend to link and aggro you. What you are trying to locate are "Excavation Point"'s near bones. *hint* the best location is the first open area in the mine, don't go too deep, Even thought your level are higher than average mob there, there are still alot tough stuff that can kill you. Just spend sometime wait there, wait is better than dying correct??

When you actually locate one, use a pickaxe on the spot to retrieve a wyvern egg. *hint* you can get a pickaxe in any AH for about 250-350. in my server Ragnarok it cost 280.

once you got your egg, Return with your egg to Morjean in the Cathedral and tell him of your
discovery. after that the dragon-protector will give you the next quest. You will be then asked to go to the Meriphataud Mountains and find the ??? point on the south face at the far east section of Doragora's Spine. *hint* (K-8) you have to go around the tip. watch out for the monsters around the corner. they aggro lvl 30's

Once there, you must trade the egg to this spot. at this point, more informations about the dragon-knights, and evil dragon will be told.

You must then return to San d'Oria and talk to Rahal back in Chateaux Doraguille.

After a small talk with Rahal, he will give you one key-item, and ask you to help him to fight the dragon with him. Now you must now go to Ghelsba Outpost, and find the Hut at around (F-10).

At this point *MAKE SURE YOUR PARTY IS READY BEFORE USING THE DOOR* *VERY IMPORTANT*

Suggestion for the party:
Full party of lvl 30 + in the following class
2 tanks (PLD or WAR)
2 Healers (WHM or RDM)
2 DMG Dealers (DRG is a huge plus in this battle because of the Dragon protection ability, then the standard DMG dealer, BLM, DRK, RNG, THF) **yes THF, I did this quest with my lvl 32 THF/WAR berserk +sneak + trick + backstab = 200 + dmg.

4 Characters of Lvl 40+ in the following class
1 tank (PLD/WAR)
1 Healer (WHM/RDM)
2 DMG Dealers

2 Characters of lvl 50+ in the following class
1 DMG Dealer
1 Healer

1 Character of Lvl 60+
1 DMG Dealer (my fiend got a help from my LS member, he's a lvl 69 DRG. did 3 jumps, and 1 hit. and the dragon died.... 30 seconds)

You and your party will be put face to face with the evil dragon.

Upon defeat of the dragon, you will be bestowed the Dragoon Job and be given a choice of names for your new wyvern. Now after all that hard work, now it's return to your Mog house and be magically transformed!! into your new class DRAGOON

The Whole Quest took me about 2 hours, because of all those traveling. and i didn't use any wrap stuff. Chocobo ride all the way.

Good Luck, and i hope i was some help.

For those of you wondering, the dragon at the end of this quest can be taken without upper level help. Those that were online in my linkshell last night took down the dragon with the following party:
level 30 redmage
level 31 whitemage
level 31 ninja
level 34 whitemage
level 35 dragoon

So just in case anyone was wondering, it can be done. ^^
Easier than i thought
# Feb 23 2004 at 5:00 PM Rating: Decent
This mision was alot easier than i thought it would be, evryone made it sound as if the dragon was unbeatable unless you take a level 60 melee along with you, the mission was LONG, but not that hard, i had a lvl 48 drg with me, i was a lvl 30 war, and we took a lvl 55 rdm just to be sure. We got into the dragon fight (yes you do have to have people who are on this stage of the mission or have completed the drg flag quest) and right away the drg starts kickin the dragons ***, the rdm only had to cast cure about twice, and he cast blizzaga once i think, dragon died in two minutes flat

Blizzaga = 32nd level BLM only spell

So yup that sentence bothered me too. I always get worried when people start the whole "And we pwned his bony a$$!!!!!11!!" and then come out with an impossibility. Maybe it was a 65RDM/32BLM he had with him - in whihc case he should have been ashamed if it wasn't an easy fight.

Happy hunting ^-^

That's because Halver isn't the one that gives you the quest. You do have to have talked to Halver before the quest can be started, but it is given by somebody else. Read above, where the quest is described.
