Summary

Excavate the wyvern egg that lies beneath the Maze of Shakhrami. Protect it from the dragonslayers.

Walkthrough

NOTE: You need to be able to get into the Chateau d'Oraguille. You must be Rank 2 if you live in San d'Oria, or on the Rank 2-3 Mission or Rank 3 or higher for other nations.

Go to Cargo Room A in Port San d'Oria and talk to Arminibit and Ceraulian. Then go to Bostaunieux Oubliette (the prison beneath Chateau d'Oraguille) and talk to Novalmauge. Then go to the Northwest room in the Cathedral and talk to Morjean. Oiheaurese will appear during the cutscene and ask you to bring back an egg.

Buy a pickaxe (more than one to be safe) and head for the Maze of Shakhrami. Look for the excavation point at (G-7), (I-8), or (K-7) and start excavating until you get a Wyvern Egg. Once you find one, go back and talk to Morjean. Yachemidot will appear and offer you an option to hatch the egg.

Yachemidot sends you on a new quest. In Meriphataud Mountains, at the eastern edge of Doragora's Spine is a ??? at (K-8). You'll have to travel around the north side of it and curve around. Trade the egg to it and you will trigger an event. Go back to San d'Oria and talk to Rahal in the Chateau in the Royal Knight's Quarters. The Royal Knight's Quarters is on the left as you enter the Chateau, it takes up the majority of (H-9). Rahal will then give you a key item: Dragon Curse Remedy.

After that, you need to travel to Ghelsba Outpost. At (G-10) you will find a hut with a hidden door. Open this by forcing the lock, which will trigger a cutscene with a dragon named Cyranuce M Cutauleon. Defeat the dragon. You will then be able to name your wyvern and will be flagged to change to the Dragoon job.

When I did this quest the first time I did it with a 67 NIN, she owned it, naturally, but Ranger seems to do amazing against this guy.
I went back for a second round to help a friend, it was me on 30 WAR as a body to take damage if necessary, him on 30 THF(didn't even use SATA once) and a 39 RNG, the RNG owned it in a very owning way. Led off with Barrage, then Sidewinder, then Eagle Eye Shot and the Dragon was so nerfed he should have just fallen over.
Regardless, he died in just 3 seconds more than the record. A high lvl RNG with a Euryotos Bow(Spelling?) could probly get this guy in under a minute.

The link to the wyvern job itself has a list of all the names possible for your wyvern: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/jobs.html?fjob=14

I don't remember the NPC's name off the top of my head, but he hides behind a pillar near the auction house NPCs in Norg itself. An additional note: you do need Norg fame in order for him to talk to you, which I didn't have at the time of my original visit to him.

#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 09 2004 at 1:39 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ok.....your not too bright. In Norg, there is only one person you can trade the money to. I'm not going to tell you, but if you look around on this site like most cheaters do instead of finding it themselves, it's pretty obvious. The names are quite original, and if thats what your looking for, it's well worth 10k.....

I agree with Jenovas, that is completely unnessasary, you could be a nice person and help him out, I'm sure he would help you if he had the chance.

Osuka, why do you have an account on this site if you don't condone its primary purpose? Which is the free exchange of ideas and knowledge regarding the world of Final Fantasy XI.

How is it cheating to ask other players for advice?

I agree with Enormous on that misleading part with Halver, all he did was cancel my Fit for a Prince quest, and reactivate it.

Besides the wiping away of my CP and the annoying footwork, this quest was pretty fun. The directions Arizuel posted were spot-on (got my Egg the first try; I got to resell my Pickaxes. that's 3k saved).

I couldn't find a pt to do this in San d'Oria, so I went to Jeuno and hooked up with a Drg51/War25 we headed back to Sandy and met a Thf39, and then a Whm31.

When we went to Ghelsba, we learned the Thf didn't talk to Rahal after going to Meriphataud. So we ended up taking Cyranuce twice (almost beating the record, 1:18; we were off by 8 seconds).

Good luck to you all planning on doing this quest ^^

Soloed - 48whm
# Jul 17 2004 at 12:04 PM Rating: Decent
Regarding soloing of the dragon, I was a 48whm/24rdm. I think a level 46-48 rdm or whm type character can solo it pretty well (and obviously anyone higher level), though recommend placing the 2-hr somewhere in the fight just to be safe.

I casted the usual soloing buffs of protect III, shell II, blink, blaze spikes, en-spell (e.g. enblizzard) and stoneskin. Got a little TP from the surrounding area, rested, then went in.

Started to enfeeble the dragon in the beginning, then just hacked away with the occasional heal and flash/regen II. I used cure III + divine seal once and benediction once just to be safe. Ended with about 3/4 HP and little more than 100 MP.

Things I noted that were different than soloing easy prey to decent is the dragon has much more life, hits for variable amounts (9 sometimes, 40 other times) and has two pretty powerful weapon skills that do about 100-225 damage.

Hope this information helps in gauging the strength of the dragon. Overall, I would say it's similar to a high-end decent challenge fight for me.

# Aug 10 2004 at 1:56 PM Rating: Decent
For people trying to gauge the strength of the dragon. I was able to solo it as an L43 Mnk/War. Built tp before fight. Entered zone. Used Meat Mithkabob/Dodge/Focus/Berserk. Started fight with Raging Fists then 2-hr'd. Had half my Hp's left at end of fight.

im a lv 34 monk, rank 3 bastok. i went into chatea and spoke to halver yet he didnt give me the quest and i checked current quest yet do not have it yet. im wondering is this quest fame based?
RE: fame based?
# Jul 16 2004 at 1:44 AM Rating: Decent
Nevermind i was trying to talk to Halvar, that part should be removed from the guide to prevent confusion seeing as you dont have to talk to Halvar at all to begin this quest. tho its still important that the information on how to get into the Chatea is left behind, only i request it be placed under the prior section of the guide. w00t i got my egg!

Ok, when I did this quest, I did it with 5 other ls members and we were all at level 30. Finding the egg took a while, but only because we went from one area of supposed excavation points to another without waiting around. We finally went to the first area (sorry I forget which one it is... I'll edit this post when I get the coordinates during my RSE), and ran around that sector searching for points. They spawn every few minutes in random spots of the sector so we got all 6 eggs in about 15 minutes, I think.

The running back and forth from San'doria was the most annoying part of this quest.

Fighting the dragon was a cinch with our balanced level 30 party- War/Mnk, Mnk/War, Whm/Blm, Blm/Whm, Rdm/Blm, Thf/War (me). I don't know why people insist this is a hard battle and have to have high levels with them. I dunno. Maybe you just need a really good whm to be successful. I wouldn't really recommend soloing this- I swore I saw a level cap on the battle, but I'm not sure.

I love fighting any of the dragons (rank 3 quest or this one), so if anyone wants help on Lakshmi... Heh, I'm hoping to have my Drg up high enough before I fight another one with someone ^^

Where to find the egg.
# Jun 21 2004 at 4:26 PM Rating: Decent
I would like to thank Arizuel for the great directions to the egg. Followed step by step with no map and found it easily. Heres the instructions he/she gave...

Quote:
For all those that are still looking for the egg , when you are in maze of shakrami , go in the first passage on your right , then at the first intersection go right again , you'll arrive in a big room with a dragoon skeleton , go left , near the head you'll see another skelleton and a Excavation point there , use your pickaxe there and there you go , you get the egg ^^ (sorry i can't tell the pos , i forgot to look for it)

Was doing this today with my LS to help them out. Was me (54 DRK), 32 DRG, 30 WAR. Used Mithkabob and whipped out Souleater and Bloodweapon right away. By the time Bloodweapon wore off he was down to 1/4 HP, Souleater lasted rest of fight. He was down in 2 minutes. End result with a 170 HP drain was 568/1,054 HP for me.

Unable to complete quest...
# Jun 16 2004 at 5:23 PM Rating: Decent
Any help would be VERY appreciated.

I've finished all the steps of the quest, except actually killing the dragon. I saw the cutscene where the newly-hatched dragoon was hurt. I've been back to San D'Oria... The thing is, though, is the guys that handle the quest pretend like they've never seen me before. They don't tell me to go to the Outpost or anything. :| So I'm stuck halfway through the quest and unable to complete it.

Edit: Walked through the quest again, and apparently the game somehow lost the data of me seeing the cinema in the mountains, so once I re-watched that I was able to complete the quest.

Excavation points
# May 31 2004 at 9:50 PM Rating: Default
Excavation points I-7 --> J-7 --> G-8

I went into the Maze today as a level 31 monk to get the egg, passed the first excavation point because it was not up. Headed over to I-7 but stopped when I got to the Jellies becuase I didn't feel like trying to sneak past them and training or fighting one of the two and dying. I asked a leel 30 RNG in my LS to help me out since she was in San D and had not started the quest yet a level 30 RDM joined us while I was waiting for the RNG.

We found the Excavation point at I-7 where I quickly used my Pick and went back to G-8 and that mining point was still not there...

From there we wandered around and jumped down a ledge east from I-7 and eventually we made it to J-7. Though we did get agro from a good number of things there the small party could kill them including one wight that attacked us which was tough to me. We snuck past the others that we saw. When we made it back to safety we checked and the mining point was back at G-8

Not sure if this is a pattern, but if it is you should help any groups that are looking for more than one egg.

Can't get quest
# May 22 2004 at 2:20 AM Rating: Decent
I am having problems starting up the Dragoon quest because I am not able to get into the Chateau d'Oraguille. Now I was told that fame was probably my problem but I have done almost all the quests in Windy (My nation) and have done 12+ quests in San D'Oria including the PLD quest so I should have enough fame to enter. But alas, no I do not and I am becoming frusterated as to what to do.

Unlike you or SirBowen, I can get into Chateau d'Oraguille, but the problem is-I talked to Arminibit,Ceraulian,Novalmauge, Morjean,Rahal,...NO ONE can give me the Dragoon Flag Quest.I've tried many times, and there is nothing I can do. Anyone can help me here? And a friend of mine also has this problem. We even doubt whether this's a bug after Server Maintenance.

The order is Arminibit, Novalmauge, then Morjean. In a cutscene with Morjean you will meet Oiheaurese. He will tell you to go get the egg. After you get the egg go back to Morjean. Look at other posts for the rest of it.^^

I had this problem, too, and it took me no end of searching to find the answer. It turns out that admittance to the chateau is not fame-based but rather rank-based. For San D'Oria residents, you have to be at least Mission Rank 2.

And for residents of Windurst or Bastok - you HAVE to at least started on the 2-3 mission ("The Three Kingdoms" or "The Emissary", respectively). You also have to have completed the steps of said mission up to the point where you're told to go to the chateau to talk to Lord Halver.

It's only at this point that you'll be able to get in. Once in, you can go down to the dungeon to continue the Dragoon quest.

To me, this is a pretty big detail that's been left out of the quest description here. Not knowing this in advance caused several hours delay once I got to San D'Oria the first time.

The issue with the Chateau is kind of glossed over probably because you're expected to have done Rank 3 by level 30. And if you haven't, it's really not a situation of "getting it over with." It's cool, because you fight a ginormous dragon at the end.

Of course, Rank 4 is even cooler because you go to Delkfut's Tower and work your way to the top, either by sneaking in with a party, or raiding it with an alliance (either way is fun).

Well I face the same problem atm...

I have a level 36 WHM. I'm level 4 in San d'Orian fame. I have mission 2-3 from Windurst intiated. And still they won't let me enter the Chateau. I think I'll just get rank 3 then and get it over with... Maybe then I might be able to enter the Chateau. Howerver... I need to be in the Chateau for the mission... Ah well... maybe then I'm allowed to enter when I get to the stage where I have to be there... I dunno... i'll keep trying I guess...

Hugs Sandy.
