Summary

Excavate the wyvern egg that lies beneath the Maze of Shakhrami. Protect it from the dragonslayers.

Walkthrough

NOTE: You need to be able to get into the Chateau d'Oraguille. You must be Rank 2 if you live in San d'Oria, or on the Rank 2-3 Mission or Rank 3 or higher for other nations.

Go to Cargo Room A in Port San d'Oria and talk to Arminibit and Ceraulian. Then go to Bostaunieux Oubliette (the prison beneath Chateau d'Oraguille) and talk to Novalmauge. Then go to the Northwest room in the Cathedral and talk to Morjean. Oiheaurese will appear during the cutscene and ask you to bring back an egg.

Buy a pickaxe (more than one to be safe) and head for the Maze of Shakhrami. Look for the excavation point at (G-7), (I-8), or (K-7) and start excavating until you get a Wyvern Egg. Once you find one, go back and talk to Morjean. Yachemidot will appear and offer you an option to hatch the egg.

Yachemidot sends you on a new quest. In Meriphataud Mountains, at the eastern edge of Doragora's Spine is a ??? at (K-8). You'll have to travel around the north side of it and curve around. Trade the egg to it and you will trigger an event. Go back to San d'Oria and talk to Rahal in the Chateau in the Royal Knight's Quarters. The Royal Knight's Quarters is on the left as you enter the Chateau, it takes up the majority of (H-9). Rahal will then give you a key item: Dragon Curse Remedy.

After that, you need to travel to Ghelsba Outpost. At (G-10) you will find a hut with a hidden door. Open this by forcing the lock, which will trigger a cutscene with a dragon named Cyranuce M Cutauleon. Defeat the dragon. You will then be able to name your wyvern and will be flagged to change to the Dragoon job.

A good Lv 30 can do this
# Oct 04 2004 at 8:00 AM Rating: Decent
Did this last night with my static party -- 6 members, all level 30-31 and we didn't have much of a problem. Having said that, we went in very prepared, with a strategy.

31WAR/15MNK Galka Tank (me)
30WAR/12MNK Elvaan DD
30RNG/15NIN Taru
30RDM/10BRD Mithra
30WHM/10BRD Elvaan
31BLM/15WHM Taru

We built up our TP to 300% before going in, all ate food (including Panama Au Lait). You get an opportunity to prep before being thrown into battle, so we did some last minute preparing. Tank went in, provoked, tossed up Mighty Strikes and started hacking away. Other members followed. When next provoke was almost set to go, we did a skillchain...

Then the dragon used it's breath attack. Killed the BLM in one hit.

Other than that, things went very well, but we all came out looking pretty beat up. Had we positioned ourselves better, the mages could have avoided the breath attack and things would have gone far more soothly.

So basically -- easily done at 30 with a good, well formed party. Just be sure you are all prepared and people don't panic. The BLM died right off the bat, so I can probably safely say you don't even need a full pt ;)

Correction, the Elvaan WHM was a WHM30/BLM15.

Either way, it wasn't too difficult. Asside from the breath attack (which again can be avoided if non-tanks stay clear) he was a bit of a pushover. He could probably trounce a party that was "thrown together" or who hadn't put any planning into it, but generally he should offer just the right amount of challenge for a level 30 party.

I just found an excavation point after 2 days of searching. It was right next to the Scorpion (on the hill) in the first big area you enter. Me and a friend got the egg on the first try both from the same spot!

Now I just have to kill the Dragon...
Help me out please!

43 RNG Solo

Do you think that a level 43 Ranger would be able to solo this bad boy or not? Just thought that dragoon might be a fun job to take to level 10 or 20.
Defeated Dragon Solo 51BRD/WHM
# Sep 27 2004 at 2:28 AM Rating: Decent
I just defeated the DRG quest dragon in 10 minutes as a 51BRD/WHM. I used a Bone Knife and Elegant shield for that fight. I had to use Soul Voice and a left over Fish Mithkabob from my BCNM equip. It was definitely a challenging fight, if I hadnt used SV i would have died. The dragon is resistant to sleep, so don't even think about it. Just requiem it and cast paralyze/slow/elegy.
Finally got it

Yesterday i fought the dragon three times. First time i was a 31 War with help from a 30 War and a 40 drg. We almost took it out but the dragon overpowered the drg and then the two warriors fell quickly. I deleveled. Second time the drg had to leave and we got a 50+ mnk and several others to help. None of them could enter the hut with us. They all had completed the quest previously or needed to beat the dragon. That left two 30 warrior against the dragon. Lasted about ten seconds. The other warrior had to leave and i started spamming sandy like crazy. After a little bit a 54 Pld offered to help me and he proceeded to annihilate the dragon.
Got kill by his 2-hr ??
# Sep 16 2004 at 2:06 PM Rating: Decent
When i did my dragoon quest, i got kill. I went into the fight with 2 friends, one 63 drg and the other is 36 whm. The drg engage the dragon and starting fighting it hard. I saw the dragon's hp was going down fast, so i though i might want to join in the fun. As I took out my little club, the dragon kill me with his fire breathe, i had full hp. I don't know what happened, I think it might be his 2-hr or something, but not sure. And i want to just point one thing out, even if you died and delvled in the fight, you can still finish the quest as long as your party killed the dragon.
I would love to kill the dragon myself sometimes. Send me a tell if you need help ^o^....

Just soloed it, 43 RDM/BLM. Not really a challenge, but it took a few minutes. About 500 HP and 100 MP left, didn't need any food. Got 15 xp and a new pet! ^^

Everything is "ez" with a high level player. And tell the truth: YOU didn't set the record, the people who did the fight FOR you set the record.

I have to agree with LadyEowen. My LS did it tonight as a party of five 30War/15mnk, 32Nin/16War, 31Mnk/15thf, 30Whm/15blm and 31Blm/15smn. It got a little hairy in spots (at one point the Nin was down to 30 HP) but we all survived! The mages used pies and juices and the melees kabobs but we all felt great afterwards that we'd done it the hard way and won.

i swear i looked for an hour ran around the place in circles trying to find the excavation mark i was about to give up then i finally found it , i believe it was near the bur pen zone. I just couldn't believe it took so long considering everyone had said it was easy getting the dragon. But is it really true that the point moves after someone has pick axed it?

Dragon Name
# Sep 02 2004 at 11:00 AM Rating: Decent
I was given the impression that you could name your dragon whatever name you desired? Could it be that you can only choose a name from a predetermined list? If so, that really sucks because I had a cool name all picked out!

When you finish the quest you can only name your wyvern from the names given to you. Later you can name him from another larger list given to you by an NPC in Norg, but you must pay 10k to change your wyverns name to a name on the Norg list.

Was very easy.. But then, we did have a Lvl50 Drg, Lvl40 Drk, lvl30 War, and lvl 28 Rdm... Kinda overkill, heh. It was half dead by the time I even finished the cutscene (2 had already done it, so skipped the cutscene. I actually watched it..)

And apparently our time, 1 min 49 was a new record...the previous being 2 min 21 o_O I'd be suprised if the fastest time ever done was that, and we beat it by that much..

the dragon is very weak. i'm a 55 whm and i just killed it with a 29 war/whm. i had 50 mp left and i never had to use benediction.

watch out for chaos breath though, that did 300 damage to me.

It can be defeated, easily, be two L40 players, provided you have the right combination of jobs. I did it last night as a 40 SAM/THF. With me I had a 43 RDM/WHM and a 36 WHM/Something. No high levels, no 72 DRK friends along for the ride. Just the three of us. And for that matter, the L36 was not a contributing factor to the fight.

I started the fight with 300 TP (by Meditating outside the hut) and made sure to have TP ready. Then I started letting loose with my attacks. The starter TP plus the 3 I got from my 2 hour plus another Meditate gave me five Weaponskills in all. I only Renkeid on 2 of them, chosing instead to spam Tachi: Enpi for pure melee damage, since Dragons are only weak to Darkness.

At the time, my attack was 190, and I was using a Kagehide as my weapon. I ate one Meat Mithkabob as a buff, nothing more. Tachi: Enpi was landing for 150-250 damage per hit. When I was done landing my 5 Weaponskills, the Dragon had about 2/5 HP left. I then melee'ed the Dragon briefly while the RDM swapped between Cure and Nuke spells (which all landed for 80-100 per cast).

In truth, I probably could have done it with just about ANY healing class as long as they had enough MP, because I never lost Agro (despite my lack of Provoke). We beat the Dragon in 2:30, but we also stood there in the arena for 20 seconds or so getting ready and making sure everyone had zoned in properly.

Compared to the SAM job fights, this guy was a pushover. Just make sure you have one person that can deal mass damage, and another person that can mop up the HP loss, and you will be fine.
