Summary

Excavate the wyvern egg that lies beneath the Maze of Shakhrami. Protect it from the dragonslayers.

Walkthrough

NOTE: You need to be able to get into the Chateau d'Oraguille. You must be Rank 2 if you live in San d'Oria, or on the Rank 2-3 Mission or Rank 3 or higher for other nations.

Go to Cargo Room A in Port San d'Oria and talk to Arminibit and Ceraulian. Then go to Bostaunieux Oubliette (the prison beneath Chateau d'Oraguille) and talk to Novalmauge. Then go to the Northwest room in the Cathedral and talk to Morjean. Oiheaurese will appear during the cutscene and ask you to bring back an egg.

Buy a pickaxe (more than one to be safe) and head for the Maze of Shakhrami. Look for the excavation point at (G-7), (I-8), or (K-7) and start excavating until you get a Wyvern Egg. Once you find one, go back and talk to Morjean. Yachemidot will appear and offer you an option to hatch the egg.

Yachemidot sends you on a new quest. In Meriphataud Mountains, at the eastern edge of Doragora's Spine is a ??? at (K-8). You'll have to travel around the north side of it and curve around. Trade the egg to it and you will trigger an event. Go back to San d'Oria and talk to Rahal in the Chateau in the Royal Knight's Quarters. The Royal Knight's Quarters is on the left as you enter the Chateau, it takes up the majority of (H-9). Rahal will then give you a key item: Dragon Curse Remedy.

After that, you need to travel to Ghelsba Outpost. At (G-10) you will find a hut with a hidden door. Open this by forcing the lock, which will trigger a cutscene with a dragon named Cyranuce M Cutauleon. Defeat the dragon. You will then be able to name your wyvern and will be flagged to change to the Dragoon job.

Egg
# Jun 09 2005 at 6:42 AM Rating: Decent
I've been trying to do this quest all week. I was told you could get the egg from the point just outside the torongi cannyon zone into the maze. I tried 8 or 9 times and broke 3 pickaxes, whats going on?

Just a quick version of how i did this quest.

Once the mission is underway, and you have been told to go find an egg from the Maze, you only need one pickaxe. Find any excavation point and the egg is yours, then follow rest of FAQ.

Fights:
I beat the dragon 1st time with 35 WHM [me] and 50 PLD friend [Zoot, big up and thanks] Easy fight, done in about 2-3mins ish. No food etc.
Just PLD solo'd it, i healed, then off home.

However, when helping a friend fight the fiend, we did it with just two again, this time:
42BLM/21WHM [me] and a 39RDM/19BLM [Friend]
What a fight, so much fun!! I came in with apple pies eaten, juices being drunk, and all buffs i could cast on me, so did RDM, then we took it in turns to bind/ nuke/ sleep/ cure/ regen etc... took us 8 minutes and i tanked cos i took all the hate! soo much fun it was unreal, almost died, neither of us used 2hr, but it came close to the end of us both. Truly fun fight, real test of our skills as a Duo.

Anyone else ever need any help in the fight just Holler.

Tarquin - Pandemonium.

Omg, I did this a few weeks ago. I found two lvl 60 players in my linkshell ( a BLM and a DRK), and a WHM in her early 50's. The WHM helped me with teleports and getting up to the fight. So I found the other two OMW to the outpost. So we get there and we go in. I get the cutscene, but wait, the rest of my party are losing some life. They got in before me, so I think "O I'll just get this cutscene done with so I can join in. Well in the cutscene, I get teleported to the battlefield, and the cutscene is still going. I see the bad guy standing in the middle of the field and all of a sudden...He's on the ground!!

My LS friends had already killed that weak *** dragon before I was done with my cutscene. I literally did not see the dragon at all.

It was really cool that it went by so fast but on the other hand I wanted to fight a bit. :/

Btw we broke the server record by winning in under a minute.

What they don't tell you is that the maze is in two levels. You could spend all day on the upper level and not find any excavation points. Go to the lower level. I don't think actual map coords are needed here, just look around dragon bones for the excavation points.

Okay, lets get clear on this. The cave entrance from the canyon is NorthEast of the crag. You go through the "Dragon Graveyard" to an entrance in the far northeastern section of the cut. Map coordinates are K-5.

I buffed up for the fight, used a scroll of reraise just in case, came to edge of spell range (but outside agro range) and started Freeze. It took away 1/3 of his life. I followed up with Thundaga II and Blizzaga II, then I had 40 mp left and did a Drain. Killed him in less than 2 min (could have done it quicker), but the funny part is... my Stoneskin didn't even fade. I took no damage from this fight. 0.0

Took me about 1 hour and 30 minutes from start to finish. Got a Wyvern Egg on my first attempt.

The fight wasn't too bad as a RDM52/NIN20 (I got bored after 20 ;_;). Basically, I'd buff up with the normal soloing buffs. Aquaveil is important here. Then I'd cool down Utsusemi and go in. Sleep 2 was resisted, so I decided not to debuff and just went head on. My Crimson Blade was doing 25-30 damage a whack with 10 additional from Enblizzard. Basically, the dragon would miss me about 30% of the time. I'd cast utsusemi whenever possible, then whack it. Stoneskin helped prevent my utsusemi from getting interrupted. When stoneskin wore off, I'd recast it, didn't get any interruptions. It hit me for 30 damage a hit with Stoneskin down, and I wear mage armor. It's Fang Rush hurt though, ranged from 100-200 damage. Anyway, took me 8 minutes to bring him down, but a very laidback fight.
Level to Solo the Dragon

When I read the posts here I didn't see anything definate about what level you could solo the dragon. For others who come after me, I went in as a lvl 52 Summoner and it was no contest. I used Ramuh only because I had him set up in a macro set for soloing the BCNM "Shooting Fish". I used my 2hr and wish I hadn't. I believe Ramuh would have had no trouble defeating the dragon on his own JUST using Thunderspark. Thunderspark paralyzed the dragon nicely. Next I did Astral Flow and ONE hit from Ramuh's Jugdgment Bolt took the dragon from 9/10th health to 1/10th health! I only got hit ONCE for 51 damage. Ramuh was barely scratched.

I wished I hadn't used my 2hr since I had to wait 2 hours before I could call Wyvern the first time! ):

# Apr 28 2005 at 2:45 PM Rating: Decent
I was at level 30 and de-leveled. Do I have to get back to 30 to do this quest or am I eligable?

if you have the quest started when you are above level 30, you can finish the quest and still obtain the job, but you must still be level 30 before u can flag any other job quests
For shits and giggles
# Apr 25 2005 at 9:55 AM Rating: Decent
I did this quest last night for fun, and because I had never flagged the DRG job. Soloed the Dragon as a 60RNG/30WAR. I usually sub NIN but I wanted to play around with berserk. After cut-scene, berserk-sharpshot-barrage, EES, Barrage-shot, Slug shot. Fight over. Did 719, 749, 812. Looks like he has about 2100 hp.

You can pick up a map to the Maze of Shakrami in Windy Woods. The map seller is in one of the huts near the road to the AH.

It's actually easy to find, though. Once you enter the Maze, keep going North. The ??? is on a small ledge. Watch the Scorpions though.

Maybe I'm missing something or just not looking in the right place, but i can't find any of the potential egg excavation points. is there a map anywhere that displays exactly where the points are/may be?

I'm having the same sort of problem, but i found the excavation point, at the torongi cannyon zone, near the maze and i was told i could get it there. I tried 8 or 9 times and broke 3 pickaxes. Whats going on? Do i have to be in the maze?

A few things to know about the quest... for the Maze, just look for a big crack in the rocks (you'll definitely need a map for the Maze) it almost fooled me... you won't need many pickaxes, seeing as all 3 of my party members got the egg on the first attempt. Another note, Stay on the lookout for weapons and skinks in Meriphataud Mountain, because those can be nasty if you're solo. Plus, that place is a pain in the *** to navigate. Good luck all ^^
