Summary

Excavate the wyvern egg that lies beneath the Maze of Shakhrami. Protect it from the dragonslayers.

Walkthrough

NOTE: You need to be able to get into the Chateau d'Oraguille. You must be Rank 2 if you live in San d'Oria, or on the Rank 2-3 Mission or Rank 3 or higher for other nations.

Go to Cargo Room A in Port San d'Oria and talk to Arminibit and Ceraulian. Then go to Bostaunieux Oubliette (the prison beneath Chateau d'Oraguille) and talk to Novalmauge. Then go to the Northwest room in the Cathedral and talk to Morjean. Oiheaurese will appear during the cutscene and ask you to bring back an egg.

Buy a pickaxe (more than one to be safe) and head for the Maze of Shakhrami. Look for the excavation point at (G-7), (I-8), or (K-7) and start excavating until you get a Wyvern Egg. Once you find one, go back and talk to Morjean. Yachemidot will appear and offer you an option to hatch the egg.

Yachemidot sends you on a new quest. In Meriphataud Mountains, at the eastern edge of Doragora's Spine is a ??? at (K-8). You'll have to travel around the north side of it and curve around. Trade the egg to it and you will trigger an event. Go back to San d'Oria and talk to Rahal in the Chateau in the Royal Knight's Quarters. The Royal Knight's Quarters is on the left as you enter the Chateau, it takes up the majority of (H-9). Rahal will then give you a key item: Dragon Curse Remedy.

After that, you need to travel to Ghelsba Outpost. At (G-10) you will find a hut with a hidden door. Open this by forcing the lock, which will trigger a cutscene with a dragon named Cyranuce M Cutauleon. Defeat the dragon. You will then be able to name your wyvern and will be flagged to change to the Dragoon job.

Does anyone know who the NPC in Norg is that changes the wyvern's name?
I only know you have to pay him a "lil" reward for the change and there's more names to chose, but who is it and where?

Why do people hate dragoons? Thay do decent damage and thay have a pet that dose WSs can easly gets its HP back and has Subtel blow and if it dies you just have to wait 20 minutes (not 2 hours). wheres the suckyness?

Just solo'd this dragon as a 44War/22Nin. Yes I took along 4 Hi-Potions to get me through. Casted shadows before entering, ate food once I got inside (forgot before entering) and went to work. Built up my TP to 110% before using 2 hour, Sturmwind did 265 dmg. He did use dispell on me a few times to get rid of warcry and beserk. All in all, I used up the 4 potions and came out with 58hp left. Did take me 3 minutes and 24 seconds to do, by no means a record. But the fact I solo'd this dragon is enough for me.

So this is solo-able if done correctly. Hope this helps anyone that was like me wondering if it could be done.

Have fun and good luck.

Ok, It can be done by a 43PLD/NIN, I went in to the BC used a taco, buffed, used a yag drink, and waited till full mp. Then i engaged.Casted Flash right off but it didn't last long (my Divine magic is only 71). I was dual wielding a grudge sword and AF sword at first but switched back to sword/shield combo. He ate through my shadows pretty quick so i used sentinel. He hit me for around 17-30 and 6 when i blocked with my shield. but i was only hitting him for about 30 so it took awhile to get him down. when my mana started getting low I popped a couple Hi-Ethers and continued fighting. The only real damage i took was from Chaos breathe which took 300 hp. He used it pretty often too. I ended up using all my yag drinks hi potions and ethers (brought 3 each). took me 13 minutes with all the cutscenes included, actually fight time was around 9-10 minutes lol. All in all a fun but easy fight.
Sounds fun

Just soloed this fight as a 48rdm / 24blm and I think I did it just at the right time, it was a relatively easy battle, but still a few moments where I could feel my heart pounding as I was being attacked.

Make sure you buff before you go in, then when too many buffs run out, sleep him and rebuff.

5mins 38seconds for this fight, but I dont care, Ive soloed it, had fun, and thats what the game is about for me ^_^

Finished this the other night and I must say I'm a little dissapointed. I did everything solo up to the Dragon-fight and been keeping that for a while, waiting for the right moment. Some other guy in Sandy was looking for help so I switched to my BLM 31 (he was WHM 30) and we looked for a few more. Along came two guys with much higher level that apparently were doing it just to try and break the time-record.
I love the lengthier quests with a little bit of story and it just feels like I haven't really finished this one yet. Don't misunderstand me, it's cool to have a wyvern flying around, and I'm very happy to have the job unlocked but I didn't even see the dragon. I was still watching the film when all of a sudden I got to choose a name.
Well my son will eventually do it too and then we will make sure we have a team that is there for the same reason as us. I will try and invite the WHM too cause I think he felt the same way as me.

He he, finally got around doing this again. We went in as one 42BLU/NIN, one 31BLU/? and had a highlevel BLM standing behind us but our intentions where to take the dragon as much as possible just us 2 BLUs. The BLM just threw in a cure or 2 and if things where going bad had some nukes ready.

Well I solo'd this dragon as 44thf/nin, he's pretty tough, hit me for like 70 dmg a hit with good equip when Utsusemi was down, my melee attacks were weak vs him with dagger capped. So I ended up using bloody bolts on him, and they took about 2-4% of his life per hit with level 123 marksmanship. I think he's like a level 39 NM though cuz i got 24 exp, which would make him like 44-50 stats (cuz i hear NM's got +5-10 level stats better then there level, so if u guys are 30s, u might want to consider getting higher level help)
if ur on remora server & still need help gimme a /tell @ Mrlonely

Just solo'ed it as a Taru 44 Rdm 22 Blm.

Didn't use two hour, converted once, used Protect II, Aquaveil, Phal, Stoneskin, Dispel, Bind Dia, Blind, Parayze, Gravity, Slow, Regen and Refresh.

200 HP and 150 MP remained after the fight.

Just melee'd, whena buff wore, bind back off, rebuff.

Just Solo'ed the dragon as Hume 47RDM/BLM

I got killed the first time though.
Second time, I buffed up, healed. cast refresh.
Then I entered, bound the dragon, Skillchained, Thunder+Thunder+Thunder+...... Then blink and convert. I used a Hi-Potion to save MP here.
Then Bind again and Thunder til it's dead.
I ended with more than 250MP and 500HP left :)

Was fun

Went into this with full knowledge of the possiblities...I thought. Took my SAM 42 subbed with war , some X-potions and a reraiser just in case. Got wiped...hit it iwith my 2hr, skillchained, and added meditate + another tachi: Enpi too boot. This plus my reg attacks added up to 500+ damage. I was hitting for 40-50 dmg when it broke out with something unmentioned in previous posts....chaos breath. This attack owned me for my remaining 400hp..ignoring the X-potions effects. I'm coming back for this one.....and I'm bringing friends.....

Did this the other night. Soloed it with DRK 54 without a great deal of hassle. I subbed WHM 26 just incase, but the only WHM ability I used was Protect (well, and Auto-Regen, obviously!) at the start of the battle. I used Drain 3 times and walked away with about 700 Hit Points (out of 960ish). Took 6 minutes exactly. One thing I did relise that I hadn't noticed before, if you run to the side of the hut you can see other people doing their battles. Thot that was pretty cool!

Did the dragon with a 60 RDM/NIN and 70 MNK/WAR, 30 WAR/MNK myself. We set the new record for this one so fast, I never saw the dragon. 48 seconds, and the whole time I was going through the cut scene, and quickly.

I even asked as the guys were on their way:
"So anything special you guys want me to do?"
"Not really."
"So just atack then?"
"We got a 70 MNK on the way as well"
"Is attack even an option?"
Apparently not, Not that I'm complaining. I just found that really funny.

Nearly solo'd the entire quest as 40DRK/WAR.

Got to the dragon, slapped on tavnazian taco and pamama au lait, started fight with BioII. Dragon hit me for 25-35 [50 on crit]. Souleater + Bloodweapon. Fight went downhill from here. Missed half my swings on Bloodweapon [the only attacks I missed the whole battle]. Got the dragon down a little below half before it killed me. I decided to save my remaining hi-potions [I used 3 in total].

Fun battle.

Just did this as a 58 nin/war. Didn't get hit once. I imagine a 37 nin/war can solo this as easily. Went in with squid sushi (had an extra), berserk, and ut:ni up. Pulled with jubaku, then hojo and kurayami, all stuck. Melee with elem wheel to make it more interesting. Had to recast Ni once and took 3 minutes. Made me feel reeeeaall strong. >.>

And I accidentally posted as my GF. Oopsie.

Just for a little challenge, I solo'ed this guy with my 52 BLM. Not too difficult, but I did have to use 2h at the end of the fight because I had run out of mp and my staff skill was too low to hit him. XD

As with most all battlefields, you can get the first hit. So, I started the battle with Freeze, taking the big guy down to 60%. With my Ice Staff equipped I dealt about 925 dmg.

This is where I messed up a little. The dragon seems immune to sleep spells, and I wasted at least 100mp trying to put him to sleep.

In the end, I just bound him, casted Blizzard II followed by Thunder II and bound again.

**Just a note, he does occasionally double attack and was consistently hitting me for 50-55.**

fossil rock
# Oct 30 2005 at 11:03 PM Rating: Decent
I am currently looking around in Maze of Shakhrami for the mining site to get the egg. I have only found fossil rocks in the places that it suggests to find the mining points for it. When I click on the rock it only says 'its just a rock no need to investigate.' I know i started the quest, but am I doing something wrong? Do I have to have sneak off?

Please help me out.
