Summary

A strange voice from within Carbuncle's Ruby is asking you to gather the seven colors of light...

Walkthrough

Go out and fight leeches, they will drop a Carbuncle's Ruby, which is a very rare drop. Once you have the stone item, go to Windurst Walls and click on the door in the House of the Hero to talk to Ajido-Marujido. You will be told to experience all 7 weather elements. To do this, visit various zones until you have seen each type of weather pattern in the world (you will be shown a cutscene of the stone changing color). NOTE: You cannot acquire weather effects in towns or dungeons, nor can you obtain them from a Scholar casting the weather effect on you.

  • Red - heat - Valkurm, Rolanberry, Altepa, Yhoator Jungle, Meriphatud Mountains.
  • Orange - clear skies - most places
  • Yellow - sand - Valkurm, Tahrongi, Konschtat.
  • Green - wind - Tahrongi, Mhaura, La Theine.
  • Indigo - ice - Xarcabard, Beaucedine etc.
  • Blue - rain - La Theine, Pashhow, Rolanberry, Buburimu, Yhoator Jungle, boat rides
  • Violet - thunder - Konschtat, Jugner, boat rides

You will know you got the pattern by zoning and seeing a cut scene. If you don't get a cut scene, you didn't get the pattern. You don't have to be near the weather, just in the same zone as it.

Once you have all 7 patterns, go to La Thiene Plateau and find the stone circle at G-6. Trade the stone to ??? and you will get flagged to be able to change jobs to Summoner.

The simple solution is to go get each weather pattern again and the one you get with the cutscene is the one you were missing. Remember to always step backwards if you lose something, most likely it will lead you in the right direction. This has been your advice from the redneck/yankee boy. o_O 5k gil plz j/k

i charmed Kraken as a level 28 BST after 4 tries, used my 2 hour to keep him, then slaughtered leeches on Qufim island, the ruby drops off the 4th one. Gotta be the best way to get it. Mischarms hurt though.

I was leveling my WHM here tonight and fire appeared. Maybe it's something they just recently added to the zone? Either way I got definately got it in Yuhtunga, also snagged double rain there too.

ugh, we were close.
i Finally convinced my friends to run this with me, so i could finish up my SMN quest.

we all meet up at the pass.me[30 WAR/11 WHM]
ashroom[30WAR/15WHM], morty[25 RDM/11 BLM,anirak[25MNK/12WHM], and bowtomeservant[19WAR].

so we head in.everytihng is going smooth, were killing things one at a time, slithering our way to the exit.
then we got tot he floating eye room.i say theres now ay we can make it.so, morty uses a scroll of instat reraise, and does a suicide run.we all belt for it.bats are agroing me like crazy, and i'm barely hold on.i shout yes! as we start zoning...BUT, apparently a git hit one last time before zoning, and as such i zone back in, dead.

so me and morty lay dead for an hour waiting for a possible WHM.no one came.

......was awesome, we'll probably try again tomorrow^^

well i just typed out some long_ass response telling about my adventure of killing hundreds of leaches and how i got each color< but then i held down the shift button for eight seconds and turned on stickykeys or something< then i turned off the "shortcut" that had turned it on< without tuning it off< and now i can"t shut the damned thing off and ended up deleting my long_ass post>>> gay> yea<

so i"ll summerize the old post by saying that i know bowtomeservant and that i killed around three hundred leaches before getting my ruby< i dont recommend this to anyone who didnt like getting skulls< cuz this is worse< even in qufim i killed about sixty acros there>>

right on

You can either stack of on some sneak oils, etc..

Or.

Have a higher level friend come with you and keep you under the influence of sneak and invisible. (This is what I did)

As soon as I zoned into Beaucedine Glacier, I got the element, and Teleported outta there.
what is it winter or somethin?

I've been trying to get fire for about a week now - no luck! It's by far one of the most annoying quests. Granted, i only play an hour or two a night which makes it tough. Anyhow, according to alla it seems like the only zones you can get fire in are:

Altepa Desert East
Cape Teriggan
Meriphataud Mountains
Rolanberry Fields
Ru'Aun Gardens
Valkurm Dunes
Yhoator Jungle

I cross referenced those with the weather checker npcs and came up with the following list of NPCs and which Fire Related Zone they check

Rabao Amaja-Kumaja F8
Valkurm Dunes
Cape Teriggan
Altepa Desert

Kazham Tcinono G7
Yhoator Jungle

Norg Shidzue H9
Yhoator Jungle

Jeuno Upper Appollonia G6
Valkurm Dunes
Rolanberry Fields
Meriphataud Mountains

Jeuno Port Leffquen K8
Valkrum Dunes
Rollanberry Fields
Meriphataud Mountains

Jeuno Lower Shashan-Mishan F11
Valkurm Dunes
Rolanberry Fields
Meriphataud Mountains

San d'Orian South Maleme J8
Valkurm Dunes

Bastok Port Fo Moccorho J11
Valkrum Dunes
Altepa Desert

Bastok Mines Mariadok I9
Valkurm Dunes
Altepa Desert

Bastok Markets Svana H10
???

Windurst Waters Furan-Furin F8
Meriphataud Mountains

Windurst Port Eya Bhirthroh M7
Meriphataud Mountans

Windurst Woods Mushuhi-Metahi K12
Meriphataud Mountans

Selbina Wachiwi H9
Valkurm Dunes
Rolanberry Fields
Cape Terrigan

Mhaura Pekuku H9
Meriphataud Mountains

Tavnazian Safehold Gennoue H8
???

So pretty much i've just been going between lower jeuno and kazaam - This way i can check the weather in the four easiest places to get to.

Why am i telling you all this??? Because i am sooooooooo bored.

Got the ruby last night in Buburimu (yay for THF players in my LS).
Immediately after flagging the quest I went weather-hunting.
Wind? No problem, I walk from Windurst into Tahrongi and get it.
Clear? Straight into Meriphataud Mountains.
Thunder? I saw Fire pop while in Meriphataud, so I zoned into Sauromugue and got waylaid by Thunder.
Fire? Hit it by accident when I was about to leave Meriphataud - out and back in. I swear that one was far too easy.
Water? Just walk into Pashhow, it's nearly always raining there.
Ice? A mate took me up to see Xarcabard so that I could get my Vahzl crystal. Double Ice weather in Beaucedine really helped me en route.
Earth? Sat around in Valkurm next to the La Theine zone for ages and waited...

I don't think getting Fire weather is supposed to be that easy, or Earth quite as hard as it was...
Easy ;P

This quest can be difficult, I tried the other day for about an hour and no drop, but then I tried again yesterday with just myself and after about 20 min I got the drop. The hardest thing for me is to get the heat and snow elements. ^^ anyone know any places that are good for heat other then Altepa?

RE: Bub Pen
# Feb 27 2006 at 8:41 PM Rating: Decent
You just gotta' get lucky. As for snow, if you got the crystal, it's ALWAYS snowing in Xarcabard. If you don't have the vazhl gate crystal, now's a good excuse for you to get it. =P

Heat is where it's a real pain in the butt, and luck was a major factor for me. Keep the thing on you and go to a party in Valkurm Dunes of Altepa. Your party should understand if you gotta' run like mad and zone, and zone back in for the cutscene. After all, fire is the rarest one I've ever seen (I've played for a year now and I can count on hands the number of times I've seen fire; then again, I wasn't looking for it). Don't bother forcing it. Though I hear Ifrit's Couldron has it all the time as well; I've never been there myself. >.>

The Leech King Room
# Feb 22 2006 at 4:28 AM Rating: Decent
This quest is impossible. I've spent over 4 hours in the Leech King room, with a level 75 thief and a level 70 RDM, with a +90% moon phase for a good portion of it. We've destroyed over 200+ leeches and STILL NO DROP!!! Did they change the drop rate, or do the Gods just hate me? I've heard this is the best area to get it, but come on, 200+ leeches is just rediculous. >:(

My Carbuncle's Ruby story.

So I got the crazy idea to go solo poison leeches on my RDM30/THF15 in buburimu. Didn't kill more than a dozen (yet about a half hour later), Tkdtiger came along and offered to help. He was bored of NM hunting, and spotted me. We killed leeches for two solid hours, less and less sure of the leeches there. After 2 hours of nothing but bloods, I gave a 15 minute warning before I'd just give up for the night.

I **** YOU NOT:

The very next leech we killed... "You find a Carbuncle's Ruby on the Poison Leech."

That made my damn night. I thanked him over and over for all his help, then made my way out to windurst to start the quest itself. I didn't even get out of buburimu before Tkdtiger tells me he just found another one. Aye.

So that's my ruby story.

So now I'm collecting colors for the ruby. And I must say, for me, the hardest one BY FAR was getting Wind. Weather went as follows:

First, I used my BLM to warp back to Jeuno because I wanted to finish off the BRD quest at the same time and kill 2 birds with one stone. I grabbed a chocobo and headed out to batallia where I obviously was able to get the clear weather color immediately. Halfway to Jugner, earth came up on the weather, so I went to zone jugner then come back for the color. When I zoned into Jugner, I just happened to pick up lightning in the process, so that took out purple and yellow right away.

Next I head through to la thiene towards valkrum. Took the chocobo all the way out to the secret beach and finished the Bard flag quest (yay!), then started walking back to Sandy. Wasn't halfway to selbina before fire came up, so I zoned there and back out for red.

Got up to Sandy, grabbed a chocobo again (I'm lazy) and headed to east ronfaure towards Ranguemont Pass. Before I even reached the door, double ice came up. (too bad you cant collect weather in a dungeon/cave/city) Used sneak/invis to make my way to Beaucedine Glacier where I immediately got ice weather. A quick death warp (***** walking, I'm pretty lazy...) and I was back in jeuno. Headed on chocobo all the way up to la thiene again... and here I sit. I've seen rain pass by probably 4 times now, the 4th just as I'm writing this out.

By the end of me writing this out, I FINALLY check the screen again to see Wind up in la thiene! SUCCESS! Off to G-6 and then I'm DONE!!

wow... i (30 monk/thf) with a 60 warrior a 60ish rdm and a 25 thf and a 75 ranger/thf decided to go to buburimu to dominate some leeches to get me a ruby. 3 TH in this pack. it was fun at first... specially with rng doing many hundreds of damage, but time draggon on. for gods sake i got a stack of fiend blood almost and thats between all of us. 4.5 hours. suddenly i see someone say congratulations! and i scroll up. i see i had just got it and been so laxed into this sick depression waste of a day, and we all started to go friggin nuts!!! so i headed back to windy to pick up quest. the thf and rdm log out and warrior and ranger head to bibiki bay but still in pt. i grab bird and fly past tahrongi canyon. i was so friggin happy it hurt to smile. cuz i was laughing so long. i mean, 4.5 hours of genocide and we finally got me my ruby. i go to polish it off in my inventory, and.... (sorry this makes me cry)

it wasnt there.

in our moments of glory after drop two right away said they had to log. that reminded other two go to bibiki (those two in LS) and i had, in the rush of leaving had left. but not bid on it. as soon as i reach the gates of windy and realize this the rdm is like, "oh ****" and im like, "yeah......../cry" i then came back next day to dominate yet again and hit my self repeatedly for my stupidity. i had a few thfs this time and two hours into this (yes btw... it took this long for both trips) my mom comes downstairs holding my report card and yells at me for a long time about a D+ i have. she does the unexpected and grounds me on the spot. for 2 months. so, 6and a half hours of wasted time ....

if you enjoyed this hellish story of my life, then you are clearly laughing in my face for my misfortune lol and you can do it all you please. it hurts bad but i appreciate the humor in it lol.

anywho, thats how i wasted almost 7hours of my life. enjoy XD

I went and tried for leeches in Buburimu as DRG/RNG and was killing them on the beach near Mhaura and I was thinking how many of these do I have to kill and then on the 3rd leech I got the ruby and was thinking wow that was so fast.

And got all colours one after the other fast.
Got green: wind from Buburimu, then went to La thiene got blue: rain then went back to sandy for the weather checker and rode out on a chocobo and got Orange: clear, then rode to Jugner got Violet: thunder then went to Valkurm to check with the weather checker to see if it was going to be hot, but nope. Logged to have dinner and I log and then zone to Valkurm and got yellow: sand storm. Eventually got Indigo: ice, I waited and just read my book and got it in like half an hour. And just have to get red: heat now, I'll just check the weather for each day and wait for the hot days and if not I'll do other things till then.

The Ruby Drops Eventually
# Feb 09 2006 at 10:30 PM Rating: Decent
Ok I just got the Ruby drop and I wanted to mention my troubles in getting it lol..

First of all I was weapon training my staff in Valkurm Dunes with a DRK now obviously i wasn't expecting a drop and I don't think it drops there but i lvlled up from 30-65 weapon skill on leeches and nothing lol, so alot of leeches..

Then left a big gap and when I reached whm40 decided to try again in Buburimu.. I went with a mnk friend that told me he always gets drops when fighting there.. a pld and rdm joined us..

3 hours later there was no drop and all three helpers had to leave.. and just as they were leaving a 54thf ran by and he offered his help and he brought along another thf..

1hr with 2 thfs and it dropped!! 4hrs in total.. it was totally worth it though.. and i know i didnt come worse off i heard ppl trying for 8 hours before now..

well if you just about to do this GOOD LUCK hope you had better luck than me xD
Qufim Drop Rate
# Feb 09 2006 at 2:26 PM Rating: Decent
The drop rate in Qufim in my experience wasn't very good. I did the following:

Killed 10 by myself
Killed 10 w/ a TH2 Thf
Killed 5 more by myself
Killed about 30 w/ a 75SAM/???

As you can see it took me about 50 kills. It did drop but it took a while. Hope this helps someone decide where to go to get their ruby =D. -Ptr

Try this list of NPC weather checkers. It will give you a little forwarning on the weather.

Valkrum dunes can be gotten from this NPC for example.

# Feb 02 2006 at 3:20 AM Rating: Decent
allright, for those who don't know what the weather means from the weather people.

Fire: there are some "hot spells" on that day.
water: rainy
sunny: earth or normal (depends)
thunder: cloudy
wind: windy
ice: there's only 2 places for that, and you don't need a weather person to tell you wat they are.
normal: sunny day.

and yes, you can ride your chocobo still when doing this. You just have to zone to another area and then zone back in order to get the claim of the element.
