Summary

A lump of Bomb Steel and a Sacred branch are required to make a new katana. You will have to ask Jaucribaix's pupils to find out where you can get these items.

Walkthrough

To begin this quest, you will need to speak to Jaucribaix in Norg.

To get there, rent a chocobo in Kazham and head all the way south to the outpost. Stay in Yuhtunga Jungle and beware the holes. Two are connected to each other and will bring you back out to the Outpost and another will take you nowhere. You will need to fall through the hole nearest to the waterfall. Head outside and straight towards the right side of the waterfall as you see it. This will take you to Sea Serpent Grotto.

Once at Sea Serpent Grotto, you want to either have Sneak on you or use silent oil. Once you are set, stick to your right and make every possible right turn you can. Eventually you'll reach a Stone Gate. Click on it to open it. Remember to recast sneak/silent oil if it wears off. Proceed the same way guiding it to the right, you'll get to some steps and you'll see a series of arches on that path. This leads to Norg.

Once in there, go to the right and you can either go up through the path on your right (past the chocobo). Go all the way to the end of the hall and you'll find Jaucribaix. Talk to him and he'll tell you about the ways of a samurai and inform you he needs a Bomb Steel and Sacred Branch. Next, go down the long steps and talk to Aeka, she'll give you the Oriental Steel. To the left of the steps somewhere in the back is Ranemaud, he'll give you the Sacred Sprig.

To get back to Kazham from Norg, rent a chocobo. As you head out, guide it to the left and you'll find a path that takes you up (don't try to go back the same way you came in, because you CANNOT). Once you are on the level above just keep going all the way North to Kazham.

The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah

To get to the Sanctuary, rent a chococo in Port Jeuno and head out to Sauromugue Champaign and zone into Meriphataud Mountains. From there, head East and go to Zi'Tah, you can see it on your map at (M-4). You can also reach the Meriphataud Mountains from Tahrongi Canyon.

Make sure you have at least one hatchet with you and go east to (K-10), where you will find a sort of tunnel. Go through it all the way to (L-9) (this point doesn't show on the map) and look for a ??? on a huge tree. Use your hatchet on the ??? and a Guardian Treant will spawn. Defeat it and obtain the the Sacred Sprig. Trade the sprig to the ??? and you'll receive the Sacred Branch.

Konschtat Highlands

Go to (D-8) and head into a tunnel. At the end there will be a ???. When ready, trade the Oriental Steel to the ??? and Forger will spawn. Defeat it and he will drop a Bomb Steel.

Once you have both items, head back to Norg and talk to Jaucribaix. During the cutscene, Gilgamesh will appear and say your reward will be ready in 3 days (3 real life hours). Return after this time and you'll receive the Mumeito and the ability to become a Samurai.

Bomb ORe
# Feb 05 2004 at 12:42 AM Rating: Default
PLZ people do not make this mistake and forget to Lot on the Bomb ore that you findafter you kill the Forger. If you do you loose your clump of bomb steel and to replace it you must buy a Darksteel Ore, Go back to norg, and Trade it to the person who gave the clump of bomb steel originally. If you forget to lot on the Bomb ore you will have wasted over an hours worth of time and 7k not to metion if you tipped the high lv who killed the Forger
Chances?
# Feb 04 2004 at 6:17 PM Rating: Default
What are my LS chances.

My LS and I, defeated forger last night with just 5 memebers all 30th, and one at 31st. It was a close battle with us all wounded and 2hrs all used up. One of the party was down to 10hp and forger was hitting us for around 100-150 per slap. I'm the healer of the group and I was spamming Cure2 like it was going out of style.

Just wanted to know what our chances were against the guardian trent if we had a full LS party of 6 instead of 5, or should we try and make an alliance. Recently, The Japanese players on our server (Gilgamesh) are getting tired of being asked for help with adv job quests, so we NA players are starting to do things ourselves. I know a full alliance can take it out, but is it probably with just a full party of 30th's?

Hi All. The forger and treant is very doable with a party of low 30's (we were levels 30-32).

We easily wiped out the forger multiple times on Tues (2/3/2004). In fact, toward the end of the night, I was starting to feel bad for it.

Last night (2/4/2004), we fought the treant. Physically, the treant actually seemed to be easier than the forger. The treant was hitting me for 36 points vs the forger's 50+ points (w/o the forger's double attack or berserk) per attack. But because of party tactics I turned on Invincibility so I didn't actually get to see the damage of the Drilling specials that it ripped out. The pine bomb, however, hitted me through Invincibility for 100+ damage.

My gripe with the tree that it yield less xp than the goblins around it. What's up with that?

Oh and one last thing,

The Brady Strategy guide is a joke, the Huge tree is NOT on the western side, it's on the eastern side with the pos at L-10, and the passageway opening at L-9, just go east of L-9. The tree is emormous...can't even see around or to the top, so it's not like the other just kinda big trees in Le'lor, this ones monsterous. So yeah, burn your brady guide cuz it's a piece of SH*T and one of the reasons I got killed on the way there cuz it was incorrect.

RE: Chances?
# Feb 29 2004 at 6:22 AM Rating: Default
The Brady guide is exactly that, a "guide". If it were any more accurate you might as well play by the guide and live by the guide. There's no entertainment in that, is there? Well, unless you have the IQ of a 10 year old or you can actually be amused by something as challenging as tic-tac-toe. So do me a favor. Stop trying to blame a book because by doing so you don't sound like a scholar at all. At least pretend you have more common sense than that!

Your right Aocypher, the Treant turned out to be easier than the Forger. We took a small alliance of 8 with us and no one died. (Well I died once on the way, but that's cuz my chocobo timer ran out and dropped me in the middle of goblins and ancient bats - but that's another story). Reason I'm posting though is for another reason. We had 2 people who needed the sacred branch so we were prepared to for 2 battles. So we finish the first one, trade the sprig for the branch and all's well. Buff up get ready for the second battle and lo and behold, you don't need to fight it twice. If you defeat it once, the evil spirit treant is gone for some time and the rest of your group can go and trade the sprig for the branch. Something to keep in mind when your recruiting people. Your whole alliance of 18 lets say, needs the samurais sacred branch. You just have to defeat it once and all 18 of yous can trade for the branch without fight that damn treant again. The same cannot be said about forger.

some of you guys are funny..of course the treant part will be easy if you have some 60+ char(s) helping you.

the best description is probably from anonymous who did it with his LS (lvls 30-32). that's generally when you might want to get this quest, so seeing it from his viewpoint, things will be cutting it close at those levels.

i was in zitah as a 30 whm, others in group were 41 warr, 40 drk, and 45 ranger. well if they had not have gone in there first without me (i was on the way) they might not have lost their 2 hr ability earlier and died. so when we we entered zitah the 2nd time, we got to a point with ??? and got off chocobos to do something. but couerl mob attacked..that was almost OK but then a hell hound attacked. So here I am the only healer and outlevelled too...well we all died.

After we respawned at homepoints, turns out none of them had an axe anyway...sheesh i wish they would have read more on how to do this and where to go (i was just a pick-up whm they found who went with them for the spirit of adventure)

And now reading this, looks like we were at the wrong ??? anyway (in the west, at a point where there wasn't some huge tree)! hehe

So everyone read this or some other guide before you take your LS buddies/pick-up group members to their deaths.

It's ok to die if you were getting somewhere...it's not that OK to die if the person(s) wanting this quest just wanders aimlessly (did I mention none of them had a map of Zitah?) Though in their defense they probably got the wrong info about the tree being in West.

Anyway if they read this, let's give it another try! Now that I've read up on it too I'll have better info to pass on/work with!

Detailed Samurai Quest Walkthrough
# Feb 02 2004 at 3:16 PM Rating: Excellent
I Know some people find it annoying to post a walkthrough more than once, but I just wanted to post mine, step by step, for the not too experienced players, like where the hell is Norg? And how can you say you get to Norg through Serpent Grotto, but just how you get there anyways? I learned the hard way, but fear not I’ll explain it all bellow.

First of all like any other Advanced Job quests you need to be level 30 or above with any job, also keep in mind that once you get to Norg you need to be level 30 (just in case you decide to change to a low level job at Norg).

You should take in consideration that if you have not done the Kazham key quest you won’t be able to get where you need to get. Also you may want to buy a map of this area in Jeuno, you can buy this map in front of the AH in Lower Jeuno.

1. So actually first thing you need to do is get to Kazham. Once there, grab a Chocobo and head all the way south to the Outpost (Stay in the first Jungle and don’t fall under any holes). From where you start head straight up (even though you’ll actually be traveling south) guide it to the right and go through the tunnel, afterward make a couple of turns either to the left or the right, just keep looking at your compass and make sure you’re heading south all the way to the outpost. Now be careful because there are like 3 holes here 2 are connected to each other and will bring you back out to the Outpost and will take you nowhere, you need to fall through the hole nearest to the waterfall. Head outside and straight towards the right side of the waterfall as you see it. This will take you to Sea Serpent Grotto.

2. Once at Sea Serpent Grotto you want to either have a WHM cast sneak on you or use Silent Oil, it is said that you will also need Invisible or Prism Powder, but it’s not really necessary, plus you get to a point where you have to open a gate and if you are invis you won’t be able to. Once you’re set stick to your right and make every possible right turn you can. Eventually you’ll reach a stone gate click on it and open it. Remember to recast sneak/silent oil if it wears off. Proceed the same way guiding it to the right, you’ll get to some steps and you’ll see a series of like arches on that path, eventually you’ll get to Norg.

3. Once in there guess what? guide it to the right and you can either go up through the path on your right (past the chocobo) or just go up the long steps, you can’t miss it (it’s on your right). Go all the way to the end of the Hall and you’ll find Jaucribaix. Talk to him and he’ll tell you about the ways of a samurai and he’ll tell you he needs a Bomb Steel and Sacred Branch, then he’ll tell you that if you want to know how to get those items to go talk to his assistants. Go down the long steps and talk to Aeka, she’ll give you the Oriental Steel. To the left of the steps somewhere in the back is Ranemaud, he’ll give you the Sacred Sprig.

4. To get back to Kazham from Norg, grab a Choco and this will take right outside the waterfall so you won’t have to go through Sea Serpent Grotto again =) As you head out guide it to the left and you’ll find a path that takes you up (don’t try to go back the same way you came in, because you CANNOT). Once you are on the level above just keep going all the way North to Kazham.

5. Now you can either go to Zi’Tah or the Highlands, but I’ll recommend you go to Zi’Tah first since you have to stop in Jeuno from Kazham and you can ask for high level help, you’ll need it!!! or you can risk it with a full 35ish party.

:::Directions to Zi’Tah:::
*From Jeuno take a choco at Port Jeuno and head out to Souromugue Champaign and go SouthEast to K/L-11 to Meriphataud Mountains from there just head East and go to Zi’Tah, you can see it on your map at position L/M 4. You can also access Meriphataud Mountains from the Windurst Area if you go up north from Tahrongi Canyon.*

:::Konschtat Highlands is south of Valkurm Dunes and Parshow Marshlands:::

ZI’TAH:

Make sure you have at least one hatchet with you and go all the way East. Somewhere at point J/K 9 there’s like a tunnel, go through it all the way to L-9 (this point doesn't show on the map)again all the way East and look for a ??? on a huge tree. Use you hatchet on the ??? and a Guardian Tree (Treant) will spawn, beat it and trade the Sacred Sprig to the ??? and you’ll receive a Key item “SACRED BRANCH”

KONSCHTAT HIGHLANDS:

Go to point D-8 and you’ll see a ???. It looks like you’re about to zone, but you don’t. You have to get really close to it and trade the Oriental Steel to the ??? and Forger will Spawn. Beat it and you’ll find an item “BOMB STEEL”, you have to LOOT for it though so remember to tell your party BEFORE the fight to PASS once you get the Bomb Steel.

6. Once you have both items head back to Norg and talk to Jaucribaix, he’ll talk to you and Gilgamesh will show up too, he’ll say he’ll have your reward ready in 3 days (3 real life hours). After that you’ll get your First Great Katana “Mumeito” and the ability to become a Samurai.

-Whew!!! I hope this guide contains plenty of information for you to complete this long and arduous quest. GOOD LUCK !!! ^ ^

Samurai quest is a *****, only cause it's a pain to get help.

I did forger with help from three lvl 50s, and he basically just curled up in the fetal position and cried for mommy. The DRK hit him for 530 dmg.

I still have to do the treant though, cause he's apparently harder and kick me in the nuts if it isn't impossible to get help in Jeuno. Just make sure you have the sprig/hatchet and the map (you buy it from the guy in Mhaura, up the stairs and to the left for 3K). I got my party there and we couldn't find the damn thing! Now I have to find a new damn party....this better be worth it.

I just finished the quest from stratch last night with my LS (all LVL 30-32) WAR/PAL,WAR/NIN,RDM/SMN,BLK/WHT,WAR/MNK
Forger was definitely easy for us. The treant was SOOOOO close. No one died but thank the PAL sub job because one last pine comb bomb put me at 5 hit points!!! I nearly crapped my pants.....Otherwise toughest part was treant and getting through grotto

While i was working my way up to 30 i dreamed of finally getting the samurai job but also dreaded having to do the quest, which from the picture other people painted is extremely hard!
My experience was very different it was a breeze!!! For Zi'tah i just waited untill a 71drk helped me took maybe an hour or a little more.
Bomb was even easier, just found a 55 paladin who wanted to do the quest.Forger is a wimp!i was hitting for 20 and sneak attacking for 120 on him; I found this strange because minutes before i attacked a TWTBworthwhile earth elemental and was only doing 7-8dmg.

Lol, don't gauge your enemies by how much physical damage you do to them compared to elementals. Elementals never take as much melee damage as other mobs that rate similarly. With my RDM/DRK I fight elementals that are so weak I can go through two without breaking my stoneskin, but the additional effects from the Enchants on my sword do more damage than my actual sword.

# Jan 19 2004 at 5:52 AM Rating: Default
Just did the quest. It's really not as bad as it was made out to be by some people in-game.

I (30war/15mnk) took the bomb out with 2 dragoons and a thief, each 40+, and it was a freaking breeze. Definite overkill on the bomb.

The treant wasn't that hard when it got down to fighting it. The hard part was finding someone to help. Sat around for 2 or 3 hours looking for high-levels with a 30mnk/10war friend, until a nice japanese 56 sam and his 54 rdm friend offered to help. Thing died in seconds. Peace o' cake.

After that, it was a quick deathwarp back to Norg (scroll of warp would have been much less painful, but hindsight is 20-20 :P ), and as I type this I've got, oh, 2 or so hours until I pop back in and get my flag, sword, and title.

So, in conclusion, if you don't mind sitting around for a few hours, it's really not that hard at all.

You will need to turn it in for you AF weapon quest at level 40. If you drop it, you'll have to pay 30k to the guy in Norg to get a new one.

Americans are pricks and wont help, but a Japanese player would be happy to travel with you the whole way and do both battles with you FOR FREE.

Even though I've found this to be the case in many individual situations I've gone through it's been far from all situations, and I'm going to take some offense to it just because it's moronic. If you need to ask a high level, ask a high level. If an American helps you or a Japanese player is a jerk to you, don't be disappointed that not everyone fits into a quick, simple category.

Ok got all needed items and heading back to Norg on Airship as I type on 2nd box.

First all these monsters are not NEARLY as bad as people make them out to be. Not saying get overconfident and take them on wrecklessly cause it costs to get new items.

At 35 BST 17 WhM I attempted to solo Forger. Got him to 40% before I had to run to zone. I was not able to help pet cause at that level he hit me too hard. Plus I was kinda unprepared.

Paid 7k for dark ore got my steel back and tried again with a party. Had full 6 people 40-45 and we wiped the floor with em. Was not even close.

In hindsight I think a 43 BST, maybe 38 can solo this.

The tree was no prob at all. I went and charmed a Ogrefly, slapped my 2 hour on it and owned it. At time of tree I am 38 BST 19 WhM.

Also to be more clear about the tree. Ranemaud gives you a Sacred Sprig. You need to go to Auction House and buy a hatchet (under Misc). Take hatchet to the ??? to spawn the Guardian Tree. When it is dead trade the Sacred Sprig to the ???.

Good Luck hope this help people.

Did the first part of this quest today, namely killed the bomb with the aid of some jp players.

Final tally, forger the bomb had about 2000hp, fire spells affected it just fine.

Hope this helps judging the size of the party you need to fight him.
Walkthrough
# Jan 07 2004 at 10:58 AM Rating: Decent
I'll try summarize this quest a bit:

First of all, you need to get to Norg, this you do by making your way to the Sea Serpent Grotto. In the Sea Serpent Grotto you need to either 1. be high lvl and manage to kill the critters or 2. Use sneak, I made the whole way only using sneak, no invis at all but I am unsure if there's any aggro by sight, in the grotto stick to the right, there's a flat wall coming up after a while there's a door, enter that and keep sticking to the right and take every right turn and you'll end up in Norg eventually ;)

(well in Norg I would suggest you set HP here and bring a scroll of instant warp on your adventure)

Well in Norg, you go straight ahead an to your right there's some pretty high stairs, go up those stairs and enter the korridor straight ahead, move to the end of the korridor and look to your left and there is Mr. Questgiver in nice red armor, Jaucribaix.

Aften talking to him and initiating the quest, you need to go back through the corridor and down the stairs, Aneka is standing to your left just at the end of the stairs.

Ranemaud is standing a bit off to the right when you come down the stairs, he's in a small alley.

Well done in Norg, you need to go to Zi'tah Sanctuary, (Remember to have a few "Hatchet" with you when you go) Tree is to the far east of the map I don't know any exact position but since you probably are on a choco it won't hurt you to search for a bit, it's really big so you will run into it sooner or later ;)

At the tree trade the sprig to the ??? and try to use hatchet on it. Now the Treant Guardian will appear, whoop his *** in your own prefered fashion, when he's shut up you try to use the hatchet on the ??? again and you will chop down your sacred branch.

Sanctuary is done and you are off to Konschtat Highlands, the cave you look for is in D-8, When you see the cave you might think you gonna zone or something but you just go in a few steps and look for a ??? on the ground, when you find the ??? trade the Oriental Steel to it, and the Forger will appear out of the dark part straight ahead, make him regret he's a boss monster and loot the key item he gives you.

Now you need to go back to Norg, if you took my advice earlier in this walkthrough you just use your scroll of instant warp, if you didn't you have the enjoyable run through Sea Serpent Grotto ahead of you ;P anyhow, well in Norg you go search out Mr. Jaucribaix again, trade him the items you aquired in the quest and he tells you to wait 3 ingame days, that's 3 ingame days from the time you finish the conversation so 3 full days must pass before you can get the "Mumeito" and get flagged for Samurai job by mr Gilgamesh ^^

Now go do some nice ws, I hope this helps...

Bigpurr,

You can trade Darksteel with Aeka and she will give you the Oriental Steel again. Go back to Konschtat Highland and fight the Forger again after trading the Darksteel with ??? target. Darksteel is available at Auction House for 8,000 Gils (Bastok Market AH).

The first time my clan party defeated the bomb but I forgot to cast lot and that was what I had to do to fight the bomb again (if you talk to Aeka in Norg, she will tell you that oriental steel doesn't come easy, bring her darksteel to trade).

Try ask one or two high level friends to help you. The second time I fought the bomb was only with another white mage LV56.

From Kazham:

South to G-7, go down, only one way. First intesection, go straight. Back down through tunnels again. At G-8 go right (west). You will come to a pit, go across it and left, swing right. Go down to next intersection go left (east). Next intersection to straight (east), next intersection go straight (south). Next intersection, should be G-10, go right you'll come out to the outpost. There are two holes to fall down. You want the northern most hole on the western side (G-11). When you fall down, go west and you'll be in the valley. Head to the northern waterfall, behind it to E-11 gets you into the Sea Serpent Grotto.

Once in the Grotto, Sneak/Silent Oil, and keep right, you'll come to a stone door. Click it, continue on up to Norg.
