SummaryA lump of Bomb Steel and a Sacred branch are required to make a new katana. You will have to ask Jaucribaix's pupils to find out where you can get these items. WalkthroughTo begin this quest, you will need to speak to Jaucribaix in Norg. To get there, rent a chocobo in Kazham and head all the way south to the outpost. Stay in Yuhtunga Jungle and beware the holes. Two are connected to each other and will bring you back out to the Outpost and another will take you nowhere. You will need to fall through the hole nearest to the waterfall. Head outside and straight towards the right side of the waterfall as you see it. This will take you to Sea Serpent Grotto. Once at Sea Serpent Grotto, you want to either have Sneak on you or use silent oil. Once you are set, stick to your right and make every possible right turn you can. Eventually you'll reach a Stone Gate. Click on it to open it. Remember to recast sneak/silent oil if it wears off. Proceed the same way guiding it to the right, you'll get to some steps and you'll see a series of arches on that path. This leads to Norg. Once in there, go to the right and you can either go up through the path on your right (past the chocobo). Go all the way to the end of the hall and you'll find Jaucribaix. Talk to him and he'll tell you about the ways of a samurai and inform you he needs a Bomb Steel and Sacred Branch. Next, go down the long steps and talk to Aeka, she'll give you the Oriental Steel. To the left of the steps somewhere in the back is Ranemaud, he'll give you the Sacred Sprig. To get back to Kazham from Norg, rent a chocobo. As you head out, guide it to the left and you'll find a path that takes you up (don't try to go back the same way you came in, because you CANNOT). Once you are on the level above just keep going all the way North to Kazham. The Sanctuary of Zi'TahTo get to the Sanctuary, rent a chococo in Port Jeuno and head out to Sauromugue Champaign and zone into Meriphataud Mountains. From there, head East and go to Zi'Tah, you can see it on your map at (M-4). You can also reach the Meriphataud Mountains from Tahrongi Canyon. Make sure you have at least one hatchet with you and go east to (K-10), where you will find a sort of tunnel. Go through it all the way to (L-9) (this point doesn't show on the map) and look for a ??? on a huge tree. Use your hatchet on the ??? and a Guardian Treant will spawn. Defeat it and obtain the the Sacred Sprig. Trade the sprig to the ??? and you'll receive the Sacred Branch. Konschtat HighlandsGo to (D-8) and head into a tunnel. At the end there will be a ???. When ready, trade the Oriental Steel to the ??? and Forger will spawn. Defeat it and he will drop a Bomb Steel. Once you have both items, head back to Norg and talk to Jaucribaix. During the cutscene, Gilgamesh will appear and say your reward will be ready in 3 days (3 real life hours). Return after this time and you'll receive the Mumeito and the ability to become a Samurai. I decided that i was going to norg to get this quest last night. So i spammed Kazham and absolutely noone offered to help. So i bought a stack of silent oils and found my way to the grotto. Once in there i followed the right wall until i came to a stone door and pened it. I then came to another one and opened it. I ended up in the boarded floor room for the utsusemi quest. I then wandered around the grotto for a while, keeping my sneak going of course, until i came to a stone door that was new to me. I opened it and failed to notice my sneak was failing because i was excited to see the archways that meant i was close to norg. Out of nowhere three ghasts and an ironshell started tearing me apart. I died in a matter of seconds and waited for a kind soul to come by and raise me. a half an hour later i went to my home point and started cursing up a storm. Maybe today i'll actually get to norg.
Edit: When i get the quest anyone willing to help me with the monsters? i'm moopert on pandemonium. so please feel free to offer help.

Woot I got to norg with someone else earlier today. On the way the other guy died and i asked a 61 pld to raise and he came out and helped us out and offered to help with the quest! The tree and forger were unbelievably easy with his help. THANK YOU JACKLASER!! YOU'RE MY HERO!!!

yes, this dude speaks the truth. it is possible with a bit of skill. BUT over all STAY TO THE RIGHT and u CANT get lost just keep ur eyes open.

I just did this as a lvl 41 NIN. I had a 28WHM and a 30 WAR. Now this is the highlands part. I think its supposed to be the eaiset of them. But the thing didnt even touch me. I just used Utsusemin and i didnt get touched once.

Well I just now did this. I killed the bomb solo in about 45 seconds and the treant took a little longer and actually got me down to about half HP but all in all it was easy for a 51 pld/war with up to date gear.
i threw the sared thing away & nowim only left with the oriental steel.
i dont want to do samurai quest but i want to get rid of this steel.
my question is can i kill this thing & give the guyonly the thing i get from the oriental steel part of the quest or will he only accept both together ?

I tossed both items since I was not planning to do the quest anytime soon.
Well, now, a few months later, I have to give them a darksteel ore(Aeka), a platinum ore(Ranemaud) and 2 gold ore(Ranemaud) to get back those 2 items for the quest.
There's a good reason to not drop them.

just solo the tree with my 46 pld/war
used fishkabob, protect 2

For the love of -GOD-, do not solo this quest unless you are comfortably in your 50s. Maybe 40s... nope, 50s.
I don't know where exactly I read (numerous times) that the bomb could be solo'd at late 30s, but it is a lie. A big one. And what is worse, to get -another- Oriental Steel to call him again will cost you one Darksteel Ore for trade. On Kujata, that is 8k right now.

can a lvl 44 rdm/blm solo the tree? i died as my lvl 36rdm/blm and with a lvl 32war/thf last time i tried this....we came close so i thought maybe i could solo it now.....

Could I, a 50 Monk /Thief, solo the tree and Forger... I'm totally willing to 2hour on both to get the job done.. just curious as to wether i could do it by myself. No magic, no backup just pure unaddelterated Monk.

to reply to my own post, the tree would be imppossible solo as a 50mnk, i got help from a 65rdm and 74 SAm that happened to be nearby, as for forger i two houred to be on the safe side when i fought him and with hundred fists going he was dead in literally 15 seconds after taking a meat mithkabob before the battle 90+dmg per fist hit... now i just have to go to norg... , i'll attempt ninja quest solo too before i go and give the verdict on that one too...
Just a little info. I was able to solo this entire mission as a lvl 54 PLD/WAR. Forger was pathetically easy and the Guardian Treant was no challenge either. The tree did take me down to 650 out of 1054 HP, but I still had all my MP if things got hairy. Now I just have to wait 3 real life hours to get my katana.

I have a qustion maybe somebody thats already done the samurai quest where on the map(Yuhtunga Jungle) is the hole you fall in where is it located what are the coordinates thanks.
The hole is at (G-11), the same grid position as the outpost. There are three holes here, two of which simply lead back up to the outpost. The northwestmost hole leads to the open space in front of the Sea Serpent Grotto.

I did this quest today with the help of a great paladin on the Caitsith server named Juste. He led the way for me and helped me kill the Great Treante and get the sacred branch (too bad he forgot I needed a hatchet LOL), he waited patiently though while I went after one, got d/ced and LUCKILY was able to get back to him a few minutes later. He helped me throughout the whole quest and without him I would have never found my way nor got my samurai job, which I have been wanting for so long. Everyone here makes it sound so easy, but it is much harder than you would think. I want to send a big THANK YOU out to Juste..couldn't have done it without you man!!

I dont know if this has been mentioned in previous posts but if u die like i did fighting Forger u have to go back to Norg an get another chunk of Oriental Steel. Be advised to take a piece of dark steel ore with for if u dont have it u wont get another piece of oriental steel as Aeko tells u that Oriental Steel is costly and she'll give u another piece in exchange for dark steel ore

I set out to do this with three friends Friday night. Party configuration:
WAR/MNK (Me, 37)
BRD/WHM (37)
MNK/WAR (36)
WHM/BLM (36)
Everyone bound in Norg. We ported to Mea and choco'd through the Sanctuary of Zi'tah. Dealing with the gobs might've been a challenge without the birds, so our WHM stopped complaining about spending 800 gil long before we got to the Guardian Treant's spawn point. No one wanted to bother building TP, so we just buffed, ate, rested to full, and spawned him. The fight was a joke. This tree has a lot of HP, but his hits were so weak that the WHM had to start casting Banish just to feel useful. The four of us were all laughing as we headed to Dem, Sacred Branches in hand.
The bomb wasn't any harder. Having to fight him multiple times was rather annoying. Halfway through our stay in the cave, we were visited by a WAR30/WHM14 who knew that the Forger spawns in the cave when the Oriental Steel is traded to the ???, but didn't realize that he would have to fight the bomb when it popped. He also didn't realize that the quest unlocks the SAM job class. We killed his bomb for him, saving him some EXP and a headache. At least we had something to laugh at aside from the pair of weak NMs.
The bottom line is that you do NOT need high-level friends to kill these for you. This quest was a snap for a quartet of players in the mid-30s. I imagine that a 30-32 party could take these down without much trouble, though having a 36+ WHM for the teleports does make this a lot faster and makes the exit from the Sanctuary safer. Keep in mind that the Forger will self-destruct if the fight goes on long enough, so you should have barfira up if you are low enough for this fight to pose a danger. Anyway, get a few friends together, enjoy a pair of quick battles, and for heaven's sake save yourself the indignity of begging for help from high-level players.

I finally decided to get Samurai when my friend wanted help getting it too. So, I decided to help and get Samurai too in the process. The Guardian Treant was easy for me. I build up to 300 tp before the fight. Spawn the Guardian Treant and whooped it like it was just a normal mob and I was the only one fighting it. My friend was lvl 30 and I told my whm friend to come for heals and Haste in case something goes wrong. Anyways, got the Sacred Branch for me and my friend. Asked my whm friend to tag along for some heals and a tele. At Konschtat Highlands, I build up tp to near 300%. I spawn the Forger with my Oriental Steel and killed it. Funny thing is that my friend out lot me. Well, decided to build tp again since u have to wait 3 min for u to respawn Forger. Built up to near 300% tp and this time my friend spawn the forger. I provoked it and whooped it again. Got the item and i had fun killing these two NMs.
My RDM60 friend and I (PLD56) helped two people in our former LS do this last night. I was busy leveling my RDM49 earlier, so the RDM60 soloed Forger in Konschtat Highlands for a MNK34.
Later in the evening, we had a party of 4 going to the Sanctuary of Zi'Tah for the Guardian Treant. No one had a map of the place except for me, but it isn't hard to find if you just keep going east towards (L-9)/(L-10). The secret area that has the big tree is not even on the map anyway.

The MNK and DRG didn't have a Warp scroll, so we lead them out of the Sanctuary of Zi'Tah safely. Just about everything will aggro someone under level 40ish in there.

Did this quest today with a lvl 55 Dragoon using a scythe. He subbed BLM for Warp and other spells, and we went to the highlands. Had a little trouble killing the forger, it hit me once, but i survived cause I stayed the hell away from the battle. The treant, though it looked menacing, was taken down a lot faster, in just a couple of minutes. Traded in the items I needed, now just waiting for my shiny new Mumeito. ^^
