Summary

A lump of Bomb Steel and a Sacred branch are required to make a new katana. You will have to ask Jaucribaix's pupils to find out where you can get these items.

Walkthrough

To begin this quest, you will need to speak to Jaucribaix in Norg.

To get there, rent a chocobo in Kazham and head all the way south to the outpost. Stay in Yuhtunga Jungle and beware the holes. Two are connected to each other and will bring you back out to the Outpost and another will take you nowhere. You will need to fall through the hole nearest to the waterfall. Head outside and straight towards the right side of the waterfall as you see it. This will take you to Sea Serpent Grotto.

Once at Sea Serpent Grotto, you want to either have Sneak on you or use silent oil. Once you are set, stick to your right and make every possible right turn you can. Eventually you'll reach a Stone Gate. Click on it to open it. Remember to recast sneak/silent oil if it wears off. Proceed the same way guiding it to the right, you'll get to some steps and you'll see a series of arches on that path. This leads to Norg.

Once in there, go to the right and you can either go up through the path on your right (past the chocobo). Go all the way to the end of the hall and you'll find Jaucribaix. Talk to him and he'll tell you about the ways of a samurai and inform you he needs a Bomb Steel and Sacred Branch. Next, go down the long steps and talk to Aeka, she'll give you the Oriental Steel. To the left of the steps somewhere in the back is Ranemaud, he'll give you the Sacred Sprig.

To get back to Kazham from Norg, rent a chocobo. As you head out, guide it to the left and you'll find a path that takes you up (don't try to go back the same way you came in, because you CANNOT). Once you are on the level above just keep going all the way North to Kazham.

The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah

To get to the Sanctuary, rent a chococo in Port Jeuno and head out to Sauromugue Champaign and zone into Meriphataud Mountains. From there, head East and go to Zi'Tah, you can see it on your map at (M-4). You can also reach the Meriphataud Mountains from Tahrongi Canyon.

Make sure you have at least one hatchet with you and go east to (K-10), where you will find a sort of tunnel. Go through it all the way to (L-9) (this point doesn't show on the map) and look for a ??? on a huge tree. Use your hatchet on the ??? and a Guardian Treant will spawn. Defeat it and obtain the the Sacred Sprig. Trade the sprig to the ??? and you'll receive the Sacred Branch.

Konschtat Highlands

Go to (D-8) and head into a tunnel. At the end there will be a ???. When ready, trade the Oriental Steel to the ??? and Forger will spawn. Defeat it and he will drop a Bomb Steel.

Once you have both items, head back to Norg and talk to Jaucribaix. During the cutscene, Gilgamesh will appear and say your reward will be ready in 3 days (3 real life hours). Return after this time and you'll receive the Mumeito and the ability to become a Samurai.

We took down the tree easily with a 47 WHM, 36 BRD, 36 WHM, and a 30 WAR. You don't need to get 2-3 level 50+ to do this for you.

I could have soloed the bomb as a 36 bard/ninja with utsusemi. He missed me altogether half the time, giving utsusemi enough time for recast.
done, and thx

well, i just did this the other day. the guy who wrote this guide(thx again man) actually helped me out, we had 3 level 52's 2 sam and a drg helping us, with a couple japanese low level people, myself and a blm friend to help and leech off of their kill for the samurais bounty. However, with this very competent party we were able to kill the tree pretty easily.

Also with forger a level 52 samurai had some trouble(ended up with 1/5 life). So its possible for a level 47 warrior with good equip and a healer. Possible.

Note: you must kill forger once for every bomb steel you need, note you only have to kill the sacred tree once even if you have 18 level 30's in the alliance who need the branch.

47 war do not attempt killing the tree.

thank you again those who helped me, i am at the moment enjoying samurai quite a bit.

Forger would be too hard, IMO. He doesn't hit hard but hits fast, which will cause your spells to be interrupted. I tried it the other day, and even with Aquaviel, it interrupted all my spells.

Just did this quest a week back, had a 54 DRK that helped a friend & I complete the quest, couldn't have taken more than 2 hours. I've had the most fun playing Samurai so far. Meikyo Shisui will absolutely *decimate* an enemy. I can stroll up to an IT monster & hack it to pieces. I highly recommend trying it out ;)
Tree overrated.

We had 7 people in our LS doing this quest. I had another friend help me with it a month ago, so I tagged along as I knew where to go. We were 41pld, 40thf, 41 blm, 39whm, 38mnk, 35war, 37rdm. The bomb still hit our pld hard (50+hp per hit), but it was a 30 second kill easy. We spent the downtime killing the ghost that spawns there at night in between each kill.

We got to the tree (after taking them to see the cermnet headstone and the really cool looking Rock Golem if you go north instead of east in Zi'Tah), cleared out the goblin furriers (15 second mobs). Our Tarutaru whm had trouble reaching the ??? for choppage, but he finally got it, and the tree fell just as quickly as the bomb did, but we only had to kill the tree once.

Unsure how the tree could ever decimate an alliance of 40s. It doesn't hit hard at all.
um.

Me and my friend Seraphix did this quest with our friend that is a 50 samurai( GO ZEE!!!) and his 2 friends that were 50DRG and 52PLD (Unrealdj and Lioness if you know'em). We met in jeuno got a telle to Highlands and smacked Forget into the ground. got some birds and go to Zi'Tah and spent about an hour looking for the big *** tree of badassness. We had a 50THF/NIN join us named Outkast, and yes i asked him to sing hey ya lol. We had some problems with Lesser Gaylas and my Seraphix. Smacked that treant into tiny ittdy bitty peices. like microscopic peices. We got lucky and only had to fight it once. then me Seraphix and Zee went to norg, afterwards Seraph ghettoed outta there and i just waited to get my sword, while i beat my head off of the wall and get lvl 8 sam equipment.

Over all this quest wasn't too bad, i had alot of fun hanging with friends while i did it.

Solo'd this as a 41 bst. Tree was a bit of trouble. I used 2 familiars, should have brought a leech in with me instead. Sucker got me down to 31hp before I had enough TP to finish it off. Forger went down with 1 funguar familiar and me beating the crap out of it. Any other jobs solo it at this lvl? =D

at 45 and 46 i solod this tree with my 2h and it pretty much just fell over both times, great way to finish the SAM quest by showing what a SAM can do.
killed it ,

killed it solo , DRK 56 , very easy . so i guess a PT of 35 should be able to kill it too
or 2 members of 40+ with healing ability "rdm, whm ..etc"
Wow...

We had a full party of 42s and alliance with two 30s, we all got slaughtered by the tree. It is the hardest thing EVER. We all used our two hours, it was a slaughter. =(

If, like me, you left this quest off for a while, you may be wondering when it is soloable. Well, at lvl 54 RDM I killed both the NM with no trouble at all. I'd guess it is pretty safe for most jobs at 50.

Do not, as we did (x.x) get off your choco upon entering Zi'tah just because the music is pretty and you want to enjoy it. XD my LS buddies wanted to enjoy the sunrise...and unfortunately it rose on Darksday, which I believe means enhancements don't last as long. We were casting sneak/invis every few feet as a consequence...and although the fight with the tree itself was no biggie, I have incured a migraine from the walk there. This is my only word of advice.

#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 07 2004 at 11:31 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) [Green][/Green]ok this quest was pretty easy. i had a 53 Drg and a 45 Pld. as they faught i watched... pretty funny . the drg said that all i needed was one person above 50 to help me... i guess he was right, it was pretty easy. i think teh Paladin quest is much harder dont u?
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 16 2004 at 7:30 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Really, what's the point to this post? That it's easy if you have high level help? EVERYTHING level 30ish is easy if you have high level help.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, there are two kinds of useless comments that can be found on these boards :

A) You can buy it at the AH -> NO, we want to know how it is crafter, where it is found, or where to quest for it.

B) I had a lvl 70 do it for me, it was easy! -> Try doing it with people your level, then you'll see if it really is easy.

The reason the Paladin quest is harder is because you're more unlikely to have someone do all the work for you in Davoi.

I just did this quest a few days ago...and here are some key points:

Buy your Hatchet before hand.
Only one is needed so don't bother buying more than one for other people who need to do the quest. You only needone.

The bomb is a nasty lil' guy, but get a group of high 30's or some high level help and he's not that bad. If you have other people who need the bomb steel, you will have to wait around 3 minutes before trading the oriental steel to the spot. (He's located in a cave all the way west of the map, you go inside a tunnel in a mountain.)

The Sanctuary was a harder story. I'd advise getting sneak and invisible since some of the mobs conned easy prey at 42 (Some goblins.) and some VT funguars. I didn't con the Gobbues or the Stone Golems, but just sneak and invis and you should be okay.

Once at the tree, only one person needs to use the hatchet on the ??? and the Guardian Treant will appear. He's kinda tough if your party isn't full or you don't have high level help, so be ready to use your 2HR and don't be afraid to use it. After you kill him, other people can go trade in their sprig. (I had one do it before me and after) and you don't have to fight him again. exit, warp whatever because that's all you need.

Head back to Norg, hand in your stuff to the guy and he tells you to wait 3 hours. (I logged off ;P) My friend stayed and fished and played that lottery game, shame I logged on and got the katana 30 seconds before he did.

It was pretty funny walking up to him naked but have a katana at my side, wavin' at him.

Hope this helps!

Is Samurai even worth it? It sounds like a ridiculous amount of work. I'm not even sure if I want to pursue the job anymore. Maybe I'll be a Ninja instead...

Actually, Ninja is as troublesome as any other advanced job. I got killed twice by the leeches when I tried to get the coral. In the end, when I finally got it, it was rewarding. I sub my NIN to my RDM and I absolutly love it.

80% of the time SAM is leveled to 30 or 35 so you can use it as a sub and get the TP bonuses. As for a main job... its kind of useless, no really useless. The AF is kind of cool but the job is only for getting Renkei's and MB's, nothing relly more.

thought I would let everyone know. If you have more than 1 person in your party who needs to kill the treant you only have to kill it once. Went the other night with an alliance of 8. After the fight theperson who initiated the fight will get itme. Second person only had to turn theirs in. No second fight!
Forger is Hard now
# Feb 05 2004 at 2:40 AM Rating: Default
Sorry about that empty post. Anyway I finally decided to do the Samuri quest. I got all my stuff in Norg and headed over to the Konschtat Highlands to kill Forger. I'm a 39 Galka Drk/War and after talking to some people I figured I could solo this guy or take him with one healer helping... I was wrong. This Bomb was insainly hard, he hit me for around 100 every time and the low level Red Mage with me couldn't even begin to keep up the heals. After I died I looked at my log, I hit him for around 80 five times and that only took off maybe 20% of his HP. Eather I got really unlucky on him spawning as a higher level then normal or Squaresoft has raised his level considerably. So be careful with this guy, he isn't a pushover.

He's not any harder from what I've heard. Many people's problem is that they don't bring a Black Mage along so that he can do some serious damage with Fire, Fire II, and Firega. Bombs, like Jellies and Elementals, are more for Mages to deal with and will usually tip the odds in their favor.

It's not that forgers any harder :)

It's just most everyone who post here got help from someone who was higher level :). Blah blah blah this group of 50's and I wiped the floor with forger...heck of course you did!!! you were with a bunch of 50's.

Forger hits hard, but he also has almost no defense. Thats what me and my LS of 5, 30th level friends found out. I was the primary healer, and luckily I was a whm taru. I was spamming as many cure 2's as I could and some cure 3's. If your going to go at forger with just one other person at 38, make sure it's a whm that can keep up with Forgers damage output. Otherwise, a larger group would be advised. Forger also does a self destruct for around 150-200 if your 30th, so make sure you keep everyone as high on hp as you can.

and yes we beat forger with no deaths, though the theif was at 10hp and had to hit perfect dodge...but he lived :).
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 07 2004 at 12:21 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) He wasnt that hard...had a level 67 sam helping PENTATHRUST EVERY OTHER ATTACK!
