In-Game Description

Obtain a "dancer's testimony" and bring it to Laila.

Characters Involved

To be able to start this quest, you must have completed the following:

  • Dancer leveled to 66 or above. (You would've have to do Genkai 1 through 4 from Maat)
  • All Dancer AF quests completed
  • Have obtained a Dancer's Testimony

If you meet the above, go ahead and talk to Laila. Then trade her a Dancer's Testimony. You will be teleported to Qu'bia Arena. Trade the same testimony to the burning circle and prepare yourself.

Much like fighting Maat for Genkai 5, you will have to face off against Laila: Dancer vs Dancer (no sub jobs). Defeat her, and this quest will be complete. Good luck!

Second attempt easy win
# Aug 28 2011 at 5:43 AM Rating: Decent
So it took two attempts first time i got owned didnt even get her to 50% even with 3 dancing edge. Anyway the second was easy as hell. Equipment was dnc afs + scorp harness, behemoth knife +1 and a standard in off hand and whatever bits and pieces i was wearing. Had hi-pots a wing and au lait. Now wether it was just luck or actually effected by this i zoned into the fight naked with no gear and equipped once i got in. Buffed up and went to work building steps and finishers. Used dancing edge every chance i got. pooped wing after 2nd ws but missed chain. got off a 4th ws and won in 3 min 56. easy as pie =)
Pump the jam!

Here's how I did it after my 3rd try.

Went in with my usual Icarus Wing, Persikos, and using Squid Sushi +1 before entering... Instead of having a jumble of different potions left over from other events (which I was completely out of by now)... I bought a Hi-potion tank and depleted that before entering. I was still left over with 9 Hi-Pots by the time I finished her, and was still at 700HP.

I'd say the key to this fight is just pumping out weaponskills as fast as possible. Don't worry about your wild or building flourish because it just takes too much time to accumulate the steps to perform. I pumped out 2 weapon skills as fast as possible and that had her down 50%, I used my Trance and used Drain Samba III, and Healing Waltz a couple of times. As soon as I hit 100 TP, I used Dancing Edge, and then used Icarus Wing for another Dancing Edge to do Detonation, and that was it.

4 Weaponskills and she was down. There's no point in wasting time, because the longer the fight is drawn out it seems, the more likely she is to spam weaponskills, considering I even beat the record (4 minutes and 1 second), it's obvious that this is nothing but a race to beat her down before she gets tired of playing with you.

As far as equipment goes...

Behemoth Knife
War Hoop
Cobra Cap, Mittens, and Subligar
Chivalrous Chain
Spike Earring x2
Scorpion Harness
Ecphoria & Unyielding Ring
Amemet Mantle +1
Life Belt
and Dancer's Toe Shoes
I won! 1/4

I spent over 300k on this fight in total.
Gear I used:

Blink Band (then fancy spectacles)
scorp harness
Dancer's Bangles
Woodsman Ring
Ecephoria Ring
Merman's Earring x2
Tiphia Sting
Behemoth's Knife
Ashigaru's Targe - yes, a shield for a little extra Def.
Psilos Mantle - +1 acc
Dancer's Tights
Life Belt
Tabin Boots +1
Chiv Chain

Icarus Wing
Vile Elixir (very nice to have both of these, instant hp)
Vile Elixir +1
Hi-Potions (some +2 or +3) x 25-30
Periskos au lait or pear au lait
Bream Sushi (crab sushi prob fine also)

Her evasion is relatively high so use plenty of acc+.
I didnt worry about having evasion + gear even though
my evasion skill was maxed. I tried evasion gear the
first fight and it didnt matter. She hits every time.
Parrying skill and shield skill would be more helpful-lol

I coulnt get a stoneskin torque because its 500k
on my server. If its cheap on your server, by all means
get that as well.

Macro in EVERYTHING. IE: /item "Hi-Potion" <me>
It goes so much smoother. You are on a time limit.

You have 6 minutes to win, get your stopwatch out :)

When entering the battle, use your blink band, torque,
and au lait. You activate your food before entering.

I cast chocobo jig to run up to her. Start hitting,
do your box step, rev flourish then dancing edge.

I didnt alternate weapon skills. I didnt see any decrease
in damage from dancing edge so I dont recommend any alternating.

BE sure to remember to use your 2 hour at around 50% of her HP.

After your third dancing edge use /item "Icarus Wing" and
do another weapon skill right afterwards for a skillchain.
You should get some nice damage from detonation.

When you use your 2hr, you can use watlzes to cure yourself
to full.

You should have her down to 20% and a win by the 5th weapon skill
if not the 4th. I forget how many i actually used. You can spam
hi-potions via your macro as they are instant.

As in the earlier guides, dont bother using TP on any but steps,
and your weapon skills.

Cleared on the 4th try in 5 min, 1 sec for the record on Ramah.

Good luck!

Ok..I will say this is not an easy battle.

To be honest, Laila really is a pushover. She has spot on accuracy, so evasion gear means squat here. Her strength isn't high, unless you've been taken to lvl 5 against her Box Step. The only real problem in this fight...is time.

For this fight, you've only got 10 mins. After your Ten mins are over, she'll use back to back DE on you until your down, so consider it a loss.

I lost to her 3 times until I finally won just a few mins ago. (What a relief)
My advice to those that are doing this quest is to trust in Box Step and Wild Flourish.

I went in with only about 11 Hi-Potions +3's, 1 Squid Sushi, 1 Icarus Wing and my Blink Band. Was wearing my Full AF stuff too and Behemoth's Knife. I fought her and let her take my shadows away while I tried to get my Box steps off. Missed the first one, but got the next two off and used Reverse Flourish. I then waited a little more until I had 110 or more TP so I could get one more finisher for Wild Flourish. Used it and after waiting for the animation to end, unleashed DE for a good chunk of her health, plus I got the Scission SC for about 50 points of damage.

Used my potions a bit to keep me up from her WS (Only used 1 DE, Shadowstitch and Shark Bite on me this time) and got myself back to 100 TP and did another DE. Popped my Icarus wing and used DE again for another SC, got Detonation this time (Whats up with that?) and she was at about 10%. At this point, used Trance to keep myself healed and get myself back up to 100, in which I dealt the finishing DE. Beat her and broke the record at the same time.

I'm gonna try this one more time after I get some more gil and record my fight. Until then..here I come lvl 75 ^^

Leila battle walkthrough
# Apr 25 2008 at 2:17 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, I just won this fight as my DNC70. I don't recommend going in before lvl70. This is, in theory, a reasonably simple fight, just a TP race, nothing more...but when you actually go in there it's not as easy as you think. I am farely sure she gains more TP than we do (what a shocker lol) with each hit because she boxstepped me after the first hit and also, if I had used half the waltzes and sambas she did, I doubt I would have gotten more than 1 ws off.

You will need:

blink band
stoneskin torque
1 bream sushi
1 persikos au lait
1 icarus wing
25 or more hi-potions +3

wivre mask
scorpion harness
tiger trousers
fending bracers
dancer shoes

Go in, make sure you have your stoneskin torque and blink band ready to use and once you're done with them reequip your regular gear. Don't try to use them again in the middle of the fight, they take too long to use. You've already used up all the time you can afford for this stuff at the beginning of the fight. Remember, you only have 10 minutes.
Use your sushi, your persikos au lait and go. Start the fight and get your TP to 100% as fast as you can, do your WS. Rinse, repeat. Right after your second WS use the icarus wing and ws again and hope you were quick enough for a skillchain, if you are not ,oh well, I didnt and got away with it =P.
Very important: Alternate ws.
Depending on your level you wanna do Dancing Edge/Cyclone or Dancing Edge/Shark bite combo. If you dont do that I found she builds a resistance and Dancing edge barely does 100something after the second time. Anyway, she should be down to less than half by now. At this point you should be 2 ws' away from winning. The trick here is to stay alive by spamming pots and gain tp as fast as you can. Keep your hp as close to full as you can, she will double ws+sc and do ALOT of damage, enough to kill you if you're low on hp, in a matter of 5 seconds. DO NOT use waltzes to regain hp, you need to hang onto your tp for dear life and only use it for ws
You can do everything you're supposed to do and still lose cause luck is a factor in this fight too, for example, yesterday I lost because i kept missing both regular hits and boxsteps. On top of that she must have had a tp reserve up her butt because she ws'd me like it was going out of style and still cast cure waltzs out the ying yang. I was out of time, out of pots and she was almost back to full...So sometimes it's just the luck of the draw.
2hr is advisable if crap hits the fan, especially towards the end, but if you keep up with the pots you shouldn't have to.
You can use wild flourish before your ws if you want to, although it's not the way to go if you ask me, the tp you use for it is not worth the extra damage you do with it. Use those finishing moves for reverse.
Macro everything, make sure you don't end up looking for job abilities or items manually. Trust me, you're gonna be too focused on the actual fight to do that without messing up causing a genkai train wreck.
Also, don't be showing up with your groovy opo-opo necklace and sleeping pots. If you do that your tp will be high enough to slap a ws on her face as soon as you engage, but you will have used half the time you have available and that WILL cause you to lose the fight.

I taped my fight, i forgot to turn up the volume so there's no sound, but you can still take a look if you want ^_^

I mess with my dats alot so some of my gear looks different lol.

I hope this helps, if you have any questions send me a tell. I'm on leviathan and my char is MrsMac ( if i'm not on try Syllvian, my taru).

Good luck guys!
