Summary

The Spare Cardian you jokingly taught a silly salutation to has grown up .... and is unable to forget that greeting. Now that he's a full-grown Cardian, you better find him and undo what you taught him ... otherwise, he'll remain a walking joke.

Walkthrough

  • Complete The All-New C-2000
  • Talk to Kororo and choose any greeting. Talk to the Cardian that Kororo specifies. He will ask you to give him his new greeting. Choose one, it doesn't matter which.
  • Come back some time later (Midnight JST) and talk to Kororo and he will blame you for messing up her cardian.
  • Speak to the Cardian at the outpost in Buburimu Peninsula (Nation Control has no bearing, The cardian will be there even if it is Beast Controlled)
  • Speak again to Kororo.

This quest cannot be flagged if you have Windurst Mission 9-2 open.

waiting time

I have about 40 quests finished in windy, I think my fame is about lvl 6. So I went to start this quest to keep rising windy fame. I was in a hurry, so I just read this post quickly. I talked to the NPC taru first, then the cardian (mine was #1), set the greeting, and headed out to buburimu. Of course Five of Spades didn't say anything interesting, only that he is on patrol. >< Then I read everyone else's posts that you have to wait some amount of time. I guess that the quest guide here would've mentioned that, but I assumed too much...

I wish I had read the anonymous post who wisely bulleted all the required steps of this quest before I set out to Buburimu... /slap <me>

I can verify that regional control has absolute diddly squat b/c I belong to "Lastok", at least how it is on Unicorn... -_- And I have seen the cardian there even when it's beastmen-controlled. I remember running to him for assistance when I was there as a low-lvl being aggrod by all the gobs there & he didn't help me. ; ; And no other NPCs are there, only when it is controlled by a region.

Bottom line, don't head out to Buburimu until you've set the greeting (been yelled at by NPC), & waited a real day or fame allows to actually start the quest. At least it was a chocobo, and I had warp to bring me back to windy. :D

As always, if you're on Unicorn and need my help with anything, just send a /tell! /smile :>

Update:
I can now confirm that you have to wait one real day - or until midnight Japan time to receive the quest after setting the wrong greeting to the spare cardian. Then I headed out to talk to Five of Spades in Buburimu. I was worried at first that I messed it up & was expecting more to his response. All he said was something to the effect of "Are you telling Five that his greeting is wrong, but that's the first greeting Five ever learned, and that can't be right!" But I returned to the taru & it was completed. Hope that helps! Happy questing :>

Spare One's greeting is Hello!?!
# Mar 14 2005 at 8:15 AM Rating: Decent
ok....been a few hours now, I taught it to say 'Hang Ten, dood!" I went and hunted Juu Duzu, did the compound eye circlet quest, and came back...almost 4 hours later. Spare One, says "Spare One's Greeting is...Hello!?!"

Kororo won't say crap to me but that she is newy around here and some other taru bs. Anyhow, I figure I will just wait some more, but if anybody knows what's up let me know, I really need the Scentless Armlets from the proceeding quest to fight avatars.
Thanks in Advance.

i'm not sure how I can get this one started, myself. I taught it the phrase, Kororo said something, and then I left, thinking it was done. It's been about 3 RL days and she still hasn't given me the quest. What can I do?

One note: you DO NOT have to talk to every cardian, only all the blanks in the Manustery (there are like ten, it's easy)...one will ask for a greeting (I think you need to talk to them all twice to get this, not sure), you choose one (I chose "WASSUP!!!" or something like that), talk to Kororo who yells at you not to teach the cardians anything, then you go away for a few hours real time, come back and talk to Kororo again.

I don't know about the cardian and region control, I haven't checked that out yet.

The Correct way

You don't need to talk to every cardian just the blanks in the manustery teach one the wrong saying and come back later. When she gives you the quest go to Buburimu Penn Outpost and talk to the Cardian then return to Kororo. There is no need to be the dominant nation or even have the outpost manned the cardian is there all the time. The only pre-requisite as far as i can tell is having finished the quest "The all new c-2000" for Kopuro-Popuro in the other wing of the manustery. Hope this helps......

I have a problem.. I can't seem to get this quest started. I keep talking to those cardians and they keep repeating their normal greetings, and not giveing me any choice for a wrong one. Do I need to first talk to some guy?

Update

Ok, I know for a fact you do not have to talk to every Cardian in town to get this quest. It's probably just a combination of fame and time since you taught the cardian a message.

I have 31 completed quests when I got the quest, the fame guy in the tavern says "he hears people talking about me over dinner." Otherwise, the only things I did were teach the cardian a greeting, and then come back and check Kororo each day until he gave me the quest. Took about 3 RL days for me.
WTF?
# Jan 20 2004 at 11:37 PM Rating: Decent
Ok i'm a level 30 redmage. I got about 35+ quests done for windurst and did all the repeatables about 5-10 times. I have more than enough fame for the Giddeus water quest. I talked to all the cardians in all of windurst, and I even checked that guys list while i was doing it (i did it twice). I gave the "Hang Ten, Dood" greeting the cardian next to Kororo, and I waited 3 game days... then 6.... then 12... still this ******* won't give me the quest...

WTF?

I've talked to everyone near Kororo, outside or inside the cardian workshop. The taru dude who gave me first cardian quest just says "This is the manustery blah blah blah" neither of them will give me another cardian quest.

Ok I went to bastok for about 3 real life days doing abunch of Bastok Quests. When I came back to Windurst, I went straight to Kororo.

Guess what? He gave me the quest.

So for everyone whose checking out how to get this quest. Talk to every cardian in windurst. Talk to Kororo. Teach the Spare cardian next to him any incorrect greeting. Then talk to him 1 more time. And DO NOT talk to him again for like 2-4 real life days while you go do something else with your char.
RE: WTF?
# Feb 10 2004 at 7:06 PM Rating: Default
You dont need to talk to every cardian. Its just fame based. You may just need slightly higher fame is all. I didnt talk to every Cardian, I only talked to three spares inside, got the quest, found the cardian, got the reward. Simple.
Ugh...

I went ALL the way to the Peninnsula to talk to the Five of Spades, or whatever he is, and I told him his greeting was wrong, and he denied it... and now he keeps repeating his greeting over and over to me. What have I done wrong? I DID get the quest.
RE: Ugh...

You didn't do anything wrong. You have to speak to Kororo now.

you DON'T actually have to speak to all the cardians in town.
I started to do so, got through all those in Windurst Woods, then just got too peeved at all the running around. I went back to the Tarutaru NPC and he gave me the quest immediately.
SO I can't guarantee you WHICH cardians you must speak to, however, I can assure you that it is NOT "every cardian in town".

steps to get this quest to work
# Dec 07 2003 at 6:29 PM Rating: Default
Ok i finished this quest and I am not positive on the actual requirements, but I can at least verify that you must do the following

.Have the original cardian quest finished
.Talk to Koporu and then make sure you teach the caridan the imcorrect greeting, Koporu will yell at you.
.Come back a long time later and talk to Kopuru and he will blame you for mssing up his cardian
.You are sent to the outpost at the penninsula to fix this problem
.Report back to koporu.

Everything fter my second step is definitely correct. i did eachj of those as i have it written here.

Hope this helps!!

after about a day or so real time, kororo asks you to talk to all the fives to see about their greetings - i ran to bubu on a tip, and the cardian there give u the greeting you taught it i think that is it but i havent returned to town yet
Hmm

Kopuro-Popuro did NOT initiate this quest in any way for me. Kopuro-Popuro should NOT be considered the start NPC, but he might be a factor in getting this quest. This game does have sequential quests, but Kopuro-Popuro didn't send me to to Kororo. Here is what DID happen.

I talked to Kopuro-Popuro over and over, i have over 21 Windy quests done as well as ~7 repeaters done. He never said anything about Kororo (who btw is in the North Half of the Manustery, the part that Kopuro-Popuro is NOT in).

Kororo tells you, when you talk to him, that Spare One can learn a new greeting. So, you talk to spare One and teach him any phrase you like of the 3 you can pick, then if you talk to Kororo again he says that no one thinks he is ready to make Cardians.

I didn't have the quest at this point so i zoned out and back in and went to Kororo again. He still said that no one thinks he is ready to help make Cardians... still no quest.

I don't know if i have to wait a full day, or if Windy needs to control Buru Penninsula. As of right now on Midgardsormr the entire region of Kolshushu (Tahrongi/Bubu/Shakhrami/Mhaura,/Onzozo) are all under beastman control so that -might- be why the quest isn't initiating.

You can check conquest status under Region Info on the pulldown menu, just move the cursor around and highlight the squares to see who controls what.

Fame

The ability to take quests is sometimes limited in levels (higher than x level only) but in most cases, quests will require a fame amount. I don't know how fame is calculated exactly (+1 per quest??) but once you have enough, NPCs that didnt will start to give quests.

By the way countries quests and fame rates are completely separated, I have somewhat medium fame in Windurst but somewhat low in Bastok.

I've waited two game days and can't seem to finish the quest after the greeting. It's been like 3 real days now.

Maybe you don't have to have control the place to complet the quest, but you do to start it? Since american release windurst in Midgard hasn't controlled the bumu. ANd it's not looking like it be any time soon, beastmen have like a bar of 80% there.

Regional control's got nothing to do with it for sure. I started this quest when Bubu was under Beastman control and Windurst was not in first, and finished it the same way. The Cardian will always be in Buburimu. It's all about fame and waiting a bit -- you have to give the Cardian long enough to run off, and Kororo enough time to realize it so he CAN yell at you and start the quest.

This game IS realistic during some quests. You have to give the Cardian time to run away from home. ^^

Oh yeah, also, I never talked to Kopuro-Popuro for this quest. I taught the Spare Five a greeting, zoned and went out and leveled a couple times, then went back and talked to Kororo. Then I went out and talked to the Five of Clubs at the outpost at the peninsula.
name
# Nov 22 2003 at 3:59 PM Rating: Default
It's called "Greeting Cardian"

Our windurst in leviathan doesn't have control of the area but I was still able to do it. Good to combine with the overnight delivery quest because getting there is kinda tough at low levels.
Which Cardianian?
# Nov 21 2003 at 10:25 PM Rating: Default
Which Card do you need to teach? I have tried the five spare cards and none give the option to teach a greeting.

Is this somethign that requires alot of faction with Windhurst?
RE: Which Cardianian?
# Nov 21 2003 at 10:36 PM Rating: Default
Okay. this seemed to work:

Spoke to two NPCs next to Home Point on other side of building.

Then spoke to Apururu behind the counter in the building and then Kororo.

Then talk to spare One to teach the improper greeting.
Eh....

I completed the All new C-2000 quest, and spoke to the spare cardian and taught him a greeting... I then waited a few hours while I went and leveled and Koruro still doesn't give me the quest... ?? Am I missing something?
Is this your Cardian?

Hmmm. I'm on Diabolos, and Windurst hasn't controlled the Peninsula since the US release here. However, Five of Spades (kinda like Seven of Nine, only much less sexier) is at the Outpost, and you can talk to him. While I haven't gotten the quest yet, I don't see any reason why the control of the region would affect it...unless you guys are saying you've gotten the quest, tried to talk to Five of Spades, and gotten zip from him...

Updated to add: I was able to finish the quest. The Five of Spades is unrepentant in his greeting (I too taught him WASSSSSSSSSUUUP? I think it's important for NPCs to keep up with pop culture :) ), but it did not matter that Windurst wasn't in control of the region.

How I got it.
# Nov 16 2003 at 6:24 PM Rating: Default
I got the quest on Leviathan server no problem, haven't run out to the peninsula yet so I'm not sure who controls it. After you complete the Amazing C-2000 quest go to the other side of the building and talk to the spare cardians, one of them (I think Spare 3) will not remember its greeting and you get a selection menu to teach it a greeting. You may have to talk to Aparuru first, but I'm not certain. After doing that, wait a few in-game days and talke to Kororo and he will give you the quest.
control doesn't matter
# Nov 16 2003 at 2:18 PM Rating: Decent
Control of Tahrongi/Buburima doesn't matter. Windurst doesn't control either of these areas on my server and I was able to complete it.
hmm..
# Nov 12 2003 at 8:32 PM Rating: Default
From what i have seen personally , i think the post up top explains it , i am a level 20warrior/10 monk , and i can still not get this quest , mainly because windurst has not had control of Buburimu Peninsula for the last few weeks. alot of qests have to do with what your Region controls area wise, not just on levels like EQ or other MMORPG's . this game is very Region extensive...
