Ergh... Why, diddly-doodley, do you bother me? I was just swimming back-aroo through the stream-areemo of time, groping for lost memories.

But heidely-hoddily! You're coming a rumming here was probably a result-areeno of some chain of wiggly-woggly events I triggered in the past-aroo.

So...are you skilled-a-willio at searching for stuff-areeno? The adventurers I meet-aroo are all supposed to be goodily-godily-good at finding a thing or two...

Good-o! Neat-o!

Now hurry up and find-a-rindo a Burnite Shell!

Burnite Shells are extremely large pointy-a-rointy shell-areenos. You'll know-a-wow when you diddley-doddily find one!

Description

After you complete the Meteorite quest, Koru asks you to go to Shakhrami and examine the rock you find there. Look for it around F-8 on your map. When you examine it, an Ichorous Ire will appear. Kill it, loot the Burnite Shell, and bring it back to Koru.

Ire Respawn
# Dec 29 2005 at 7:54 PM Rating: Decent
Just for general info, it seems as though the re-spawn (or rather, the re-trigger) timer is between 5 and 15 minutes. I'm not sure of the exact timing (or if, indeed, it varies) but out of the three people needing the drop, by the time everyone was healed, the room was re-cleared (it was a 73BLM, a 19MNK and a 22BLM [me]) so mobs didn't aggro us bait, and mana was restored, we generally didn't have to wait too long for us to be able to trigger it again. Suffice to say, we fortunately only had to do it twice (despite having a 73BLM as backup I still caught random aggro and died twice); any more and I probably would have de-leveled.
Odd...

Like Boomerulez, I too was running around to get the chest. I had the keys for several months and was going to get RSE to sell on AH but decided to forget about it since I am high enough to kill the key droppers and find the chest rather quickly. I found the chest where Ire spawns and recieved my gil :). Decided hey what the fossil rock say, clicked on it and Ire spawns and begins to attack me. The update automatically makes him aggro me! Never fear as 65 WHM he was toasted only thing I had like ~225 from teleporting people around before I stopped at Mea before I clicked on Fossil Rock spot. You can spawn Ire without having this quest activated and receive the Burnite Shell, because I did, not I have to go talk to Koru and trade him the shell for another club to my collection of semi-useful items. Also I decide to attack a wight (to use of TP) and the Rusty Key drops :). Another quest I have to activate in Windy :(.

I think I am running out of quests in the cities. I have fame level 9 in all but Norg(grrr) and done most of the quests; but oh well the expansions add more.

Sidenote: I have been carrying my 4-leaf Mandagora Leaf and seems to help increase standard drops but that is for another forum to discuss.

Defeated Icharus Ire as BST44/WHM22
# Jun 20 2005 at 7:18 AM Rating: Good
Just to let other BST know, this mob can be defeated as a BST44/WHM22 (I'm sure of this, cause I did it yesterday... :-).

I went taking the route as described above. Nothing ever aggroed me except some of the wights in the main room just before the tunnel to the Icharus Ire. They conned EP and were easily killed (fought about three to four of them on my way in and one on my way out). I suppose I got lucky, cause as a bonus one of the Wights dropped my Rusty Key.

In the cave where the fossil rock is situated, there were two Scorpions (TW) and a Jelly (EP). Once in the cave I called a jug pet (CrabFamiliar) and waited for the Call Beast timer to reset. Meanwhile I used an applie pie and rested to full HP and MP. Then I selected the fossil rock and positioned myself to the left of the rock (up on the skeleton bones) as far back in the cave as possible and away from the Jelly and the Scorpions. Only then did I examine the rock.

The Icharus Ire spawned in front of the rock (and in front of me) but was not claimed, nor did it attack me. So I send in my crab and left the fighting to it. I didn't use SIC to prevent the crab from using Bubble Shower and thus dragging the Scorps and Jelly into the fight as I had other plans with them.

Once the crab was nearly dead, I positioned myself in the cave behind one of the Scorpions (keeping the Scorp in between me and the Ire). The moment the crab died, I charmed the Scorpion and sent it after the Ire, then positioned myself behind the second Scorp for a repeat. The Scorps die pretty quick, but absorb the nasty special attacks of the Ire. In switching pets, I managed not to get hit the first time and only once the second time (for about 90 HP). At the time the second Scorpion died, the Icharus had a little less then 50% HP left.

My plan was to charm the Jelly as well and send it after the Ire, but I mischarmed, had to use tame and decided to leave it at that and not risk a second mischarm. Instead I pulled a second crab out of the jar and put that on the Ire. Unfortunately by that time I had been on the receiving end of two, three blows from the Icharus Ire (amongst which a Fluid Toss) and my HP went into the yellow. With the close presence of the Wights in the room next to the cave (I still very well remember the incredible range Wights aggro to low HP from my time in Qufim Island), I preferred to heal first (Divine Seal and Cure III followed by a Regen) and melee with my pet next. I took another blow, maybe two before my pet regained hate. This time I did SIC my pet (and of course it used Bubble Curtain, but fortunately missed the remaining Jelly).

By the time my second pet died, the Icharus was down to about 5% health and my TP was up to 175%. Avalanche Axe finished him off, leaving me with over 50% of my HP and about 75% of my MP.

Even with the mischarm on the Jelly, it was quite an easy fight. If you manage to charm the Jelly, the fight will be even easier and you probably won't need the second jug pet.

Just for the record: I'm a Male Hume BST and for the fight I used my AF1 Axe, Noble's Ribbon, two Hope Rings, Corsette+1 and Beast Whistle (for +CHR) and regular equipment for armor (nothing uber special).

The club you gain from this quest (after turning in the Burnite Shell the Icharus Ire drops) seems to be an interesting club as well for BST wanting to skill up their Club Skills for their WHM sub. I'll try to use it next time I'm farming in Giddeus, Pashow Marshlands or Rolanberry Fields.

Triggering this quest locks you out of at least 2 quests. Something fishy (unless you have already triggered it) and the new quest for attowa chasm map (unfortunately, I got this stupid quest before the update even came out...)... Needless to say, I am a slow lvler... and well, I am now stuck at lvl 40 and I am unable to get the attowa map... Will just get some ls ppls to run into shakrami when I get a chance I suppose just to get this stupid thing over with.

I also found that it locks quests. For me, both the something fishy quest and the mandy items (cornets, etc) quests were locked out. Those are the only 2 I'm sure of.

just killed this guy as 50BST/23BLM started out using hare famaliar (just for fun.. i had him out anyways) famaliar got killed fast.. called KeenearedSeffi and he won with no problem. about 1/3 HP lost on my rabbit, they were hitting each other for about 30-40 but seffi had way more HP(being 15 levels higher i guess ^^)

i was a bit worried going in (not having my whm sub on) but with an uncapped jug you can probably solo this in the low-mid 40's

just make sure your call beast timer is reset before you start the fight.

Everyone in your PT must have the quest for the NM to spawn. if they do not have it then you have to disband and reform after it spawns.

Not true. Neither myself, nor the RDM I was pting with had the quest when we got the Ire to spawn.

On a side note, I love the title you get when you kill it, "Jellybane".

I did NOT have a Torn Epistle in my inventory, and I had fame level 4.

I did the Star Struck quest (which I did need the Torn Epistle for), then the next time I talked to him, he says something about you're coming here was a result of some chain of events in the past.

I'm only lvl 30, so I won't be doing the quest anytime soon though.

killed it with me(lvl45DRK),lvl53BLM and lvl43WHM
though it hit me only 20-25damage per hit and I dealt about 80damage per hit on it.
I think we could have handled it without the blm too^^.

This is not a LVL restriction quest

I just received it with my LVL 6 war/rng

I do have Fame at level 6 (60 quests) but you can probably get it with a bit less

burnite shell Torn Epistle Connection
# Jan 25 2004 at 1:29 PM Rating: Default
you must have held the torn epistle to get the burnite shell quest...after you turn in a torn epistle to the lost mail quest guy...talk to Koru-Moru again and he says..."you smell like my sweetie pen pal" or something to that effect. Its because of holding the perfumed torn epistle that he gives you the quest. got to smell like his girl friend to get the quest!!!

This is the monster you must fight for the burnite shell. The bestiary listing is accurate. you could kill this monster with a good pair of 35's or a group of 30's. if you want to solo this you should be 55+. It's a bit on the high side but not as bad as some are making it out to be. happy hunting!

I killed this mob while I was running around doing an RSE quest. Solod it as a lvl 48 Blm. It has a lot of HP, and hits fairly hard, so if you have a group going to do it as 30ish, make sure you have 1-2 Blm's, as they take a lot of damage from spells. I was surprised when I got the dagger from this thing, as I had NO idea what it was for. I guess I'll have to do some questing in Windy now. On a nice note, I got my Shakrami chest key from him too. ;)
