If you buy the gravel, you still need to talk to Grohm at the Metal Works eatery, in order to be able to trade the sand to Savae E.......if you do not talk to the Galka, you will not be able to complete this part of the mission

Mission OrdersVisit the faraway nations of Bastok and Federation of Windurst and receive official recognition as an adventurer. WalkthroughThe guard sends you to talk to Halver in Northern San d'Oria. He needs you to help out at Bastok and Federation of Windurst embassies. You can do this in any order. If you chose to start in Bastok, go speak with Pius in the office of the President. If you have done Federation of Windurst first, you will need to speak to the San d'Orian Consulate Savae E Paleade before going to see Pius. You will be sent to Palborough Mines to get some Mythril Sand. First, check the Auction House to see if there are any Mine Gravel for sale. If so, buy it. If not, talk to Grohm in Metalworks and he will give you three Pickaxes. Just in case, you should buy some extras. They are sold by Boytz in Bastok Mines or at the Auction House. Note: You must talk to Grohm to get a cut scene to be able to complete this mission. In Palborough Mines at (F-7, first floor), you will find the Mythril Seam. Use the Pickaxe on the Mythril Seam until you get a Mine Gravel. (obviously you can skip this if you bought the gravel) Once you get the gravel, find the Refiner on the third floor at (I-7). Trade the Mine Gravel to the Refiner and the machine will begin to work. Head to the machine on the second floor and pull the lever. You should receive an oz. of Mythril Sand. You can take a shortcut back to Bastok by jumping into the boat on the third floor. Trade the Mythril Sand to Savae E Paleade. Next, it's off to Federation of Windurst! Next head to the ambassador in Federation of Windurst. He sends you to a tower in Windurst Walls to get a key. Zone into Heaven's Tower and speak to Kupipi to get the key and head off to Giddeus. At this point, you will need a full group. You can buy a map of Giddeus in Windurst Woods. When you get to Giddeus you want to go to a burning circle located at G-12 in the southwest corner. Get ready for battle. Head into the circle and a dragon will appear. You need to defeat the dragon. After you do it, report back to the ambassador and then back to the guard and you gain rank 3 and 3,000 Gil. If Federation of Windurst is first, then you need to take a shield offering to Uu Zhoumo, the Yagudo NPC guarding the treasure room in the lowest part of Giddeus, then you have to fight Zhuu Buxu the Silent and retrieve 2 Parana Shields and trade them to the San d'Orian consulate. They tell you to go to Bastok next where you will get tossed around to different people until you are told to go into the mines. Go with a party to the 3rd floor and head towards the burnt spot on the map, and you will zone into the next part where you will find the burning circle. Then kill the Black Dragon and see the cutscene, head back to the San d'Orian consul in Federation of Windurst, they will complete you for their part and you just need to head on home to complete the mission. Note that this mission is given in all three kingdoms, so you can group with anyone and still complete it. Things that slowed me down that that you can avoid.
Startinig in Bastok talk with NPC and then Galka. The galka will give you 3 pickaxes. If you can buy mine gravel at AH, buy it. If not bring several pickaxes. Buy map of mine in Bastok. I think 2 npcs sell it. Both in bastok, look under bestiary NPC, Map Sellers and you will get the names and positions.
In the mine go to the machine, for me it was on the 2nd level not the third, put gravel in refiner lid and pull lever.
The Black Dragon can be defeated by 4 people, maybe 3, but 4 or more is almost a sure win.
Have level 25 gear or less on. Someone in the party needs to have sleep.
Enter the BC and buff. Sleep the dragon and do not touch it.
Go to the eye and defeat it continue to sleep the dragon.
Once the eye is defeated attack the dragon.
You should be able to defeat it fairly easily. The key is to sleep the dragon and defeat the eye first. This is a must.
When done go to windurst and talk with ambassador, he give a missal, go to San Doria (or your home i suspect) and talk to GATE GUARD. He will send you to the Chateau.

Hi all
I'm a noob i Started this mission in windy and completed all requirements there But after I went to bastok and spoke to the Consul of Sandi
but they didn't give me ant key T_T
Can Someone please tell me where I can get the key to do this mission ?????

I have been stuck on this mission for a while. I Started in bastok . I baught the mine gravel then turned it into the mithril sand. I try to trade the sand to the npc and he wont take it. So i really dont know what to do. do I have to go mine some gravel? please help

I have done Bastok first. No issue.
Then Windurst. I got the Dark Key item from Kupipi.
When I select the Burning Circle, I get this strange message, after a 5 second delay (!):
"Not that you'll be there to see it..."
and the arrow is on the following line which is blank!
If I select this arrow, nothing happens... I am clearly stuck!
Note that I have done this mission on another character of mine, without any issue whatsoever, so I am really wondering what went wrong with this character..
(Bahamut server, 'Princessem' character)

I would like to share my experience of my first attempt.
Me as a level 32 blu (doesn't really matter as it caps at 25). Anyways, we were tired of looking for other members so we went to Giddeus with a War, a Mnk, and me as a blu. Not a real party now is it?
We entered the battlefield. After the cutscene we went along the short path and I went up to the dragon and casted Sheep Song, immediatly taking about 40 damage. The Mnk and War went on fighting the other guy.. not sure of his name though.
After they took down him the Mnk used Hundred fists and pretty much went Kamikaze on the dragon dealing major damage but then dying afterwards.
Just me and the War left. I put it to sleep again so we can regain some health.
It awakes and targets the War. I try my best as a blu to keep him alive with Healing Breeze. Dragon almost dead by now as it finishes off the War and sad enough delevels.
Im all alone in this fight with barely 100 hp left. hits me about 60 dmg while I cast Bludgeon and fight has ended with me struggling to survive..
Pretty crazy fight probably very easy with a full pt and whm. Pretty harsh first experience so I might stay away from the fight as long as i can.
And thus lived happily ever after. This happened earlier today btw. on Sept. 8 2006, ^^

nobody ever seems to be doing this mission. i need help fighting the dragon in palborough mines in alexander world. if anyone wants to help plz send a tell melchiah.
I just started this quest, and spent probably close to 20 minutes wasting time due to the fact that this guide is missing a few key principles to it.
First, if your gate guard is not allowing you to select this mission, talk to an R.K.(if San D'orian, for example) and trade his a stack or two of any crystals. It will allow you to select the mission, and also give you rank points/possibly conquest points if you give them enough.
Secondly, if you start in Bastok it tells you to talk to Pius first. Wrong! Regardless of whichever city you start in you must first speak with San d'Orian Consulate Savae E Paleadea, then go speak with Pius. Another note about Pius, he isn't inside the President's actual office, he's off to the door to the right of the President's office(if you're standing directly in front of the President's). I probably spent 5 or so minutes trying to figure out why the guard wouldn't let me in... :)
sadly enough, that's all I can add. I am still inside Palborough trying to find the Mythril Seam to get the sand n all. According to this guide, I need to go to J-8. Did that, can't find it. If anyone is willing to help me, send /t to Aggressiverat on Fairy server between 5-8 Eastern time.

Put the mine gravel into machine. Pull lever. Machine starts. Go down to 2nd level machine, pull lever... NOTHING HAPPENS. WHY? Please help me! been running back and forth for 2 days trying to finish this so i never hjave to return to these stupid mines ever again..

Just did this mission with a friend of mine who needed help. It's pretty simple. The BC dragon fight is really easy. The record for Fairy is 2:45 with 4 ppl. We did it in 4:09 with 3 ppl: blue mage (me), black mage, and paladin. Not the best setup by any means. But blue mage owns this fight. Sheep Song works just as good as sleepga, if not better. We took out the eye first. The dragon was a joke. I went through my usually spells that I open a fight as blue mage with: Head Butt, wild oats, feather storm, bludgeon. Then just proceed to Head Butt and bludgeon till it's dead. 3 Blue mages on this fight would own. Good luck to all who are tryin to do this.

To anyone who's chosen to go to Bastok first and are having trouble with the gravel, or getting Pius to talk, you might wanna pop over to the Windurst 2-3 mission and see what that says, just convert it into San d'Orian. For instance, if it says on theirs to "Go to your embassy and talk to the windurstian guard", then just change it to go to the San d'Orian embassy and talk to the San d'Orian guard. Just a little tip

life in geruda is a lonely one! i have asked around in bastock, san D, and windhurst and there is nobody doing this mission.. as a result nobody seems to want to help to fight the dragon!.. ho hum waitings a *****! ;^)

thanxs for the help the crystals worked, as far as i can tell after the davoi report i was at about 2.h mission rank, the crystals (tradeing them them 1 at a time) took me to about 2.7/8 when the mission became available
