Mission Orders

Visit the faraway nations of Bastok and Federation of Windurst and receive official recognition as an adventurer.

Walkthrough

The guard sends you to talk to Halver in Northern San d'Oria. He needs you to help out at Bastok and Federation of Windurst embassies. You can do this in any order.

Bastok

If you chose to start in Bastok, go speak with Pius in the office of the President. If you have done Federation of Windurst first, you will need to speak to the San d'Orian Consulate Savae E Paleade before going to see Pius.

You will be sent to Palborough Mines to get some Mythril Sand. First, check the Auction House to see if there are any Mine Gravel for sale. If so, buy it. If not, talk to Grohm in Metalworks and he will give you three Pickaxes. Just in case, you should buy some extras. They are sold by Boytz in Bastok Mines or at the Auction House.

Note: You must talk to Grohm to get a cut scene to be able to complete this mission.

In Palborough Mines at (F-7, first floor), you will find the Mythril Seam. Use the Pickaxe on the Mythril Seam until you get a Mine Gravel. (obviously you can skip this if you bought the gravel)

Once you get the gravel, find the Refiner on the third floor at (I-7). Trade the Mine Gravel to the Refiner and the machine will begin to work. Head to the machine on the second floor and pull the lever. You should receive an oz. of Mythril Sand. You can take a shortcut back to Bastok by jumping into the boat on the third floor.

Trade the Mythril Sand to Savae E Paleade.

Next, it's off to Federation of Windurst!

Next head to the ambassador in Federation of Windurst. He sends you to a tower in Windurst Walls to get a key. Zone into Heaven's Tower and speak to Kupipi to get the key and head off to Giddeus. At this point, you will need a full group. You can buy a map of Giddeus in Windurst Woods.

When you get to Giddeus you want to go to a burning circle located at G-12 in the southwest corner. Get ready for battle. Head into the circle and a dragon will appear. You need to defeat the dragon. After you do it, report back to the ambassador and then back to the guard and you gain rank 3 and 3,000 Gil.

Federation of Windurst

If Federation of Windurst is first, then you need to take a shield offering to Uu Zhoumo, the Yagudo NPC guarding the treasure room in the lowest part of Giddeus, then you have to fight Zhuu Buxu the Silent and retrieve 2 Parana Shields and trade them to the San d'Orian consulate. They tell you to go to Bastok next where you will get tossed around to different people until you are told to go into the mines. Go with a party to the 3rd floor and head towards the burnt spot on the map, and you will zone into the next part where you will find the burning circle. Then kill the Black Dragon and see the cutscene, head back to the San d'Orian consul in Federation of Windurst, they will complete you for their part and you just need to head on home to complete the mission.

Note that this mission is given in all three kingdoms, so you can group with anyone and still complete it.

Update Notes

As of February 14th, 2011, there is no longer a level cap restriction on the mission battlefield.

Still Having Trouble
# Dec 20 2005 at 7:21 PM Rating: Decent
Please help me!!!!!!...I started in Bastok and completed all the requirements there and in Windy for this mission...I then defeated the dragon with the help of some LS members. I went back to Windy and talked to Sandy Cosul and the taru's in the tower...I then headed to Sandy to completed mission. When I get here...Halver and the gate guard tell me to finish the mission and I get no rank 3 or any reward. What am I missing?

Please Help

You don't talk to Halver, you have to talk to a gate guard, like Endracion in South San d'Oria.

Shield Offering?
# Dec 05 2005 at 1:09 PM Rating: Decent
I have been told that it is easier to start this mission in Windy;...if so, what is a shield offering? The thread says I have to give a shield offering to the Yagudo NPC to fight NM (I presume). What is that?; can someone help me out?

I soloed the dragon as MNK25/WAR12. The first time failed, but second time was succesfull.

What I did was: Bought like 10 Hi-potions +1, Hi-potion +3, Persikos au lait and Tavnazian Taco and High Quality equipment.
Entered the BCNM, Cast boost like 3-4 times, used food, Dodge, Focus and started fighting the eye, used some potions, when i fought the dragon I positioned myself behind it, used Hundred Fists, cured after hundred fists, combo, hit more times and Finished! :D 5:56

woot I just soloed this as MNK/NIN.

Used bream sushi for +VIT +DEX and ACC
Put up my shadows, used Dodge, Focus and Hundred Fist and attacked the Dragon first. The eye seemed to be motionless for a bit but then started casting poison and thunder. I was able to recast my shadows half way through the dragon fight. My Hp was about 3/4 still at that point since the dragon missed alot while i had Dodge activated. The dragon hit me for 30-40 on avg.

I used 2 hi-potions and finished off the dragon quite easily.

Next I attacked the eye which had blaze spikes on. Each spike did 6-7 dmg to me and his hits would do 30-40dmg. I was able to get another set of shadows up and used 2 more hi-pots to defeat the eye,

total time of 5min 22seconds =)

never mind......

i forgot to talk to grohm.
notice how it says

"...If so, buy it. If not, talk to Grohm in Bastok Metalworks and he will give you 3 pickaxes."

well.... it is MANDATORY that you talk to Grohm.
You won't be led to the cutscene for trading Mithril Sand to what's-her-face if you haven't talked to Grohm first.

Mithril Sand
# Oct 21 2005 at 5:38 PM Rating: Decent
okay guys, I have a problem:

I have obtained my Mithril Sand from the machine, and headed to Bastok to trade it to Savae E Paleade, but... the trade wasn't accepted--the NPC did nothing as i clicked the "accept" button. I tried talking to him, but he just repeats a sentence or something. I still have the Mithril Sand in my items... I'm quite sure that I did everything that the guide instructed me to do, all up to giving the Sand to Savae E Paleade.

Please, someone tell me what I might have forgotten to do, or tell me if somthing is missing on the guide that should be there.
(yes, i started in bastok first)

I need help!

It wont let me trade sand to the lady at bastok's, san'd'orian counsul. Yes i signed up for bastok 1st, please help me out!
Dragon Defeated!
# Oct 13 2005 at 11:21 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, I am a anti-social person by nature, so I dont like to spend hours /shing for help with things, and usally don't have to because of Deodorize / Sneak / Invisible. But I knew I could do this Black Dragon alone. So I called up my sexy Galka buddy Chewy 75Mnk/War and we decided we were gunna take this thing on just us two. Geared up, rode to the BC, jumped in. Protect, Shell, a Rolandberry Pie and a Yagado Drink for me, plat of Sole Sushi for Chew, and we were off... Ok idk about anyone else, but the Eye doesn't do a damn thing! Chew immeadiatley used Hundred Fist and started mercilessly beating the Dragon. The eye.... watched. I easily keep him cured with regen and Cure I, rarely using Cure II, and removed poision. BOOM, Dragon eats it! The eye, still just watching is Chews next target. Which bites the dust almost too quickly. Fun fight.

I have been to al three cities at least on 10 different occasions and whenever i use the shout cm, i ask people if they would help me with the dargon but everyone is acting like they didnt get the message or they keep ignoring me. I know that there are people who could of helped but they treated me like i didnt exist when i would ask them and i dont get it with some of these A-holes online.

How can i make a party for the dragon if people wont talk to me ?

I hope this is some sort of a joke. I help people here and there, but with a level 1 sub job who are you kidding here. Even gil sellers don't have level 1 sub jobs anymore. At the very least be half of your main at all times.

Personally i'd join a party with a leveled up sub job and if my sub were to become under leveled I wouldn't just leave a party though.

What I'm trying to say here is if your going to be shouting for help at least be prepared to do the fight. A level 1 sub to a level 28 is far from being prepared.

I saw that the original post was months ago, but since your signature is still there I'm assuming it's still current information.

LOL

Level 1 sub job aint that bad

I respect ppl who get to 30+ without gettin subjob i think its an accomplishment

Course as a mage your kinda stuck wihtout healing or back up nuking but as WAR THF to MNK you can manage

If there is alot of lag you can kill you subjob its tough but i did it once in kazham

Went to the Nomad Moogle and you have to change your main and subjob to the same thing then you will only have oyu main and no sub its kinda fun to try to do and ppl ask you interesting questions ^_^

I remember us having 4 members, but I could've done the whole thing with only 2. I don't even remember whm healing a lot, cause I finished the drgn off with my hundred fists. I was about 25 when I did this one.

You can buy the map in windurst woods at the NPC in the tent near the central tree of the woods. If I remember correctly it costs like 600gil.

I did this the other night and there was only two of us. I went as SAM/NIN and my brother was THF/NIN. We didn't use any potions or sleep arrows. I went in and targeted the Eye and he went and got the Dragons attention. He then moved behind the Eye and SA and once his shadows were gone used his Two Hour. I then Two Houred and did a Distortion Skill Chain then soled a Enpi. The Eye was dead.
The dragon was missing me and I kept shadows up. My brother would use SA to take hate for me to recast and I would WS to get it back. Other then getting Cursed we didn't have any trouble at all.
We didn't use any kinda trick or potions... we just went in and took care of it. You don't need a full PT to kill them. Just be smart.
