Mission Orders

Visit the faraway nations of Bastok and Federation of Windurst and receive official recognition as an adventurer.

Walkthrough

The guard sends you to talk to Halver in Northern San d'Oria. He needs you to help out at Bastok and Federation of Windurst embassies. You can do this in any order.

Bastok

If you chose to start in Bastok, go speak with Pius in the office of the President. If you have done Federation of Windurst first, you will need to speak to the San d'Orian Consulate Savae E Paleade before going to see Pius.

You will be sent to Palborough Mines to get some Mythril Sand. First, check the Auction House to see if there are any Mine Gravel for sale. If so, buy it. If not, talk to Grohm in Metalworks and he will give you three Pickaxes. Just in case, you should buy some extras. They are sold by Boytz in Bastok Mines or at the Auction House.

Note: You must talk to Grohm to get a cut scene to be able to complete this mission.

In Palborough Mines at (F-7, first floor), you will find the Mythril Seam. Use the Pickaxe on the Mythril Seam until you get a Mine Gravel. (obviously you can skip this if you bought the gravel)

Once you get the gravel, find the Refiner on the third floor at (I-7). Trade the Mine Gravel to the Refiner and the machine will begin to work. Head to the machine on the second floor and pull the lever. You should receive an oz. of Mythril Sand. You can take a shortcut back to Bastok by jumping into the boat on the third floor.

Trade the Mythril Sand to Savae E Paleade.

Next, it's off to Federation of Windurst!

Next head to the ambassador in Federation of Windurst. He sends you to a tower in Windurst Walls to get a key. Zone into Heaven's Tower and speak to Kupipi to get the key and head off to Giddeus. At this point, you will need a full group. You can buy a map of Giddeus in Windurst Woods.

When you get to Giddeus you want to go to a burning circle located at G-12 in the southwest corner. Get ready for battle. Head into the circle and a dragon will appear. You need to defeat the dragon. After you do it, report back to the ambassador and then back to the guard and you gain rank 3 and 3,000 Gil.

Federation of Windurst

If Federation of Windurst is first, then you need to take a shield offering to Uu Zhoumo, the Yagudo NPC guarding the treasure room in the lowest part of Giddeus, then you have to fight Zhuu Buxu the Silent and retrieve 2 Parana Shields and trade them to the San d'Orian consulate. They tell you to go to Bastok next where you will get tossed around to different people until you are told to go into the mines. Go with a party to the 3rd floor and head towards the burnt spot on the map, and you will zone into the next part where you will find the burning circle. Then kill the Black Dragon and see the cutscene, head back to the San d'Orian consul in Federation of Windurst, they will complete you for their part and you just need to head on home to complete the mission.

Note that this mission is given in all three kingdoms, so you can group with anyone and still complete it.

Update Notes

As of February 14th, 2011, there is no longer a level cap restriction on the mission battlefield.

Just did this 10 minutes ago. We had... I honestly don't remember. I think it was...
WAR
BLM
RDM
MNK
BLM
We slaughtered it. It was my first time, so by the time the cutscene was over, Searcher was already at 1/2 HP. Killed quickly. Everyone 2houred, and we destroyed the dragon. We were all Protectra and Shellra'd. The only problem was... The BLM died ;_; They didn't mind, really, because they were rank 5. Still too bad though. We beat the record, at 2 min 10 sec

Something I found while doing this mission was, when you put the mine gravel in on the third floor, all you have to to do get it back is fall down these platforms right on the side of the refiner. You will drop down and be at the place you need to be!

Well I just did this mission. Piece of cake. I, a 21/10 WAR/MNK, organized a party of myself, another 21 WAR, a 26 WAR, a 32 WHM, a 25 RNG, and a 23 MNK. Trust me, the hardest part of this mission is being the leader of the party. It took about 1 hr-1.5 hrs to get the party organized. When we reached the Burning Circle, none of us used food, just basic buffs. The RNG sleeped the dragon with sleep arrows and the 26 WAR voked the searcher. We finished off the searcher relatively quick. We then moved to the dragon.

The RNG spammed arrows and then used Eagle Eye Shot. The MNK used HundredFists, but no one else 2-houred. We defeated the dragon in 4min, 5sec.

With a good party you can't lose. This is a relatively easy mission that just needs a strong party leader(that was me, lol). Rank 3 and 3000 gil obtained. If you are ever on the Hades server and want to do this mission, just /tell me (Seiferjosh) and ask. Happy Hunting!
Did This Last Night
# Mar 22 2005 at 1:13 PM Rating: Decent
We (Being a Dark Knight, Warrior X2, Samurai, and last but not least a White Mage) did this last Night and it took 3 min. I was so excited to be involded in a real battle (Not just a experiance battle) and it took 3 min. 2 on the searcher and 2 on the Black Dragon. Searcher fell in 30 secs and Black Dragon 1.5 min later.

So I killed the dragon with my LS and then went back to Windurst to talk to the guy there. As he says he's giving me a paper to give to Halver back in Sandy, i lose connection. I goto Sandy and Halver says "good Luck on your Mission" basicly... I really hope that I can just go back to Windurst and get that paper again... I recieved the title of Black Dragon Killer so I know that part of the mission saved as I was disconnecting, I just hope I didnt miss out on a key item that I cannot get back.
problem with the refiner
# Mar 13 2005 at 10:00 AM Rating: Decent
I've been trying to get mithril sand for the past week. My problem is i cannot select the door/tray of the refiner, therefore i can't trade the gravel to it. Has anyone else had this problem?
RE: problem with the refiner
# Mar 14 2005 at 5:35 AM Rating: Decent
I'll just say anything that comes to mind, although you probably did it already...

Make sure your on the 3rd floor, theres two slectable points there, on one side is the tray you trade the gravel to, on the right side of that is the lever. Trade the gravel to the tray, then pull the lever. Now at this point it says something about the machine making noise and it's obvious to go down to the 2nd floor. Now just drop off the ledge to the 2nd level and pull that lever, then you will obtain the sand. I dunno, I hope this helps. I forgot to pull the 3rd floor lever after I traded the sand so when I went to the 2nd floor it just kept saying something like "Nothing Happens."

Good Luck!
dragon's level?
# Mar 12 2005 at 5:51 PM Rating: Decent
does the dragon have an exact level, or does it vary? I know the fight caps YOU at 25, but I wasn't sure about the dragon itself.
Solo'd as RNG

Just solo'd this mission as RNG/NIN
Used sleep bolts to keep Dragon asleep while I killed the Eye. Alternated between sleep bolting the dragon and shooting the Eye. Both move around REALLY slow. Things started to look bad when it drew me into the center right when the dragon woke up. Ran around the circle trying to re-sleep the dragon with many failures, utsusemi wore off, went into critical hp. Finally slept the dragon but Eye kept on hitting me so I couldn't use X-potion or recast Utsusemi. Tried to sleep the Eye but it never activated (is he immune?). Gave up on trying to sleep eye and just spammed Silver arrows on him and killed it. Had about 100hp then, and the dragon woke up. I kited it around the circle for a while until I got far enuf away. Then, in this order, Utsusemi, X-potion, Hi-Potion and spammed Sleep bolts til the dragon died. YAY!

Didn't even use 2-hour. Never got cursed. Oh, and I used a Peskimos (spelling) au Lait before I entered. Got a little scary at times but completely doable as RNG with the right food and ammo. First try!
question?
# Mar 11 2005 at 5:38 PM Rating: Decent
Can a player who has completed the mission help another player complete it, without going through the whole mission. I just need help with the dragon & the seeker. I am having a hard time forming a party. My friends are willing to help, but they don't want to go through the whole mission. Is this at all possible?
RE: question?
# Mar 14 2005 at 5:39 AM Rating: Decent
Yes, just have them be in your party when you click on the circle that brings you to the battlefield.

Make sure they have gear appropriate for it, if its over 25, it's not gonna work in the battlefield.
Do you need somthing to start

Every time i go to talk to consulate all he does is say how can i help you
and doesn't give me the mission. So do you need some popularity in those regions before you can do the mission ?

Double check if you did the following:
1. Talk to a gate guard to get the mission
2. Talk to Halver
3. Now you can go to other countries.

Hi all,

I heard of stories of MNK with some potions can actually solo the Windurst dragon thanks to 100 fists. Do you guys think it's possible for a WHM (with food, potions...) to solo it? How about a BST? I just hate waiting around and bothering people for help. :)

I (WHM25/BLM12) killed the Giddeus dragon today with a WAR24/MNK12 and a WAR23/MNK7.

Before going in, I buffed everyone up, ate a pumpkin pie (the extra 40MP really saved us), then rest to full.

First, the WAR's worked on the eye while the dragon hitting on them. After the eye died, they 2hr'ed the dragon. The dragon had about 90%HP while the WAR's were at half with me having only about 30MP. At this point I didn't think we would make it. Luckily, the dragon wasn't all that hard. It hit for only about 30+ and no AOE. When we got it down to about 60%, i had to use Benediction and got hit twice. I think Mighty Strike was still on so the WAR's were able to take back the hate. I rested while watching them killing the dragon slowly. At 50 MP, i stood up, casted 2 Cure II and the battle was over shortly after that.

I had killed Palborough Mines and Yugott Grotto (spelling?) dragons with my first character and I have to say this Giddeus dragon is way easier than the other 2.

MNK + WHM duo
# Feb 15 2005 at 9:12 PM Rating: Decent
I just duo'd this with my WHM buddy and it was a cake walk. Leveling is more difficult than this.

We both had avg lv 25 gear. He prot/shell III us before we entered the circle. Pies for the mage, meat mith for the mnk. Full heal. We trade the keys and get a cutscene. We appear, and still have all our buffs from outside the circle (stoked). I throw up dodge/focus. I walk up as 25mnk/war, and provoke the eye. Eye and dragon aggro me while the whm stays out of range on the periphery. I just melee the eye, while the eye and dragon take swats at me (around 30-50dmg each). WHM throws cures and regen.

I threw a combo at the eye at 200%tp and landed for like 160. He went down like a sack of potatoes.

Auto-target the dragon. The fight starts, and I go 100-fists. whm still uses cures, while I beat the crap out of the dragon. Got in another combo for 150. Killed the dragon shortly after my 2h wore off.

We ended with elvan WHM at 100%health and 50%MP, and me at about 80%HP.

Cleared it in 3:13 (record was 2:30).

Enjoy this battle! Don't worry about getting a party together! I had 5 x-potions on hand and didn't even think about using them. Enjoy!

Minimum -Party- is a 2 person: MNK/WAR and a BLM/WHM. So long as the BLM/WHM keeps the MNK standing, that dragon goes down fast. Hell, we did it, and it was a pretty sight seeing that Dragon die.
win win win
# Feb 13 2005 at 6:05 PM Rating: Decent
yep, blm with sleep works very well. My comp even froze while i was doing this, but the dragon was already almost dead. Didn't even need to move to do this. :)
