Mission Orders

The Minister of the Orastery is conducting an experiment in the eastern magic tower of the Horutoto Ruins, located in East Sarutabaruta. Inquire at the Orastery first, then go assist him.

Walkthrough

Talk to one of the gate guards and he sends you to the Orastery in Port Windurst. Talk to Hakkuru-Rinkuru on the stage to trigger a cutscene. After that, head to East Sarutabaruta and go to the (J-7) entrance to the Inner Horutoto Ruins.

Speak to Sama Gohjima, who is standing outside, before entering.

You should be in the Lily Tower. Head down the stairs to the ruins and circle around the large room. You are looking for a "Cracked Wall" on the South wall. Follow along until you get to a gate at (I-9). Enter there for another cutscene. After this, you need to search through the six different spheres until you find the key item: Cracked Mana Orb. The key item will be at a random sphere. Take the key item back to Hakkuru-Rinkuru to complete this mission.

I believe you are in the South tower - There are three! Choose the middle one, and don't forget to talk to the gaurd at the top of the stairs. Without talking to the gaurd - you will not open the doorsy woorsy.

what lvl should you be to do this quest solo?

I would say it depends on your class. A level 6-7 monk or warrior should be able to solo this with little or no trouble...however a caster should have a friend or two.

You can attain the map by doing the Glyph anger Quest in Windurst Waters (F-8 on the map), Hariga-Origa sends you out to talk with Ipupu in West Sataburata. Talk with him and return and you will get a map of the ruins.

The Optistry is in Windurst Waters. It is easy to find, it's on your map. The Optistry is made up of two towers, an east and a west tower. Hariga-Origa is in the WEST tower, he is the FIRST NPC you will see when you walk in the door.

Once you talk to him and he gives you the quest, you will need to go to West Sarutabaruta. The tower (as already posted) is halfway between I-8 and J-8. There are two NPCs in this tower, Ipupu is one of them.

Just walk around the walls, where the Gizmos are and try to check it. Eventually, you'll find a Cracked Wall at various places....

I've gone to the Horutoto Ruins many times on my own and got killed.. so don't ever go by yourself!

Mission 1 blows
# Dec 24 2003 at 8:19 PM Rating: Decent
OK, first let me give some background. I received the mission from the gate guards, proceeded to speak with the taru at the Orastery, then made my way to the eastern tower in East Sarutabaruta. I talked to the guard out front before entering, found the cracked wall, the cutscene... I searched each of the 6 Ancient Magical Gizmos and found no Mana Orb. I went back today and didn't speak to the guard out front and couldn't open the cutscene door, obviously, but I checked the Gizmos just for the hell of it and, lo and behold, there was a small cutscene saying something like "This cracked gizmo has a mana orb." So I figured I had received the bloody thing and returned to the Orastery... I was wrong.. the ******* taru didn't say anything different and I didn't complete the mission. At this point, I'm ******* pissed off.

You start the mission from either of the guards at any of the gates (usually it's the guard in the center of each group). You are told to go to talk to the Minister of the Orastery (*NOT* the Opistery) in Port Windurst (E-7).

You'll know you have the right ministry when you open the door and see groups of Tarutarus casting magic, and two guardsmen on a stage-like elevation. Talk to the one on the left. He will refer you to head to the Horutoto Ruins Inner in *EAST* Sarutabaruta. (It may help if you have the map for the ruins. Refer to the Glyph Hanger quest to get it). The ruins you want will be in the bottom corner of J-7. You will know if you're in the correct place when you start seeing Giant Bees and Mandragoras (and maybe Spiny Spipi ^^).

When you get to the ruins, *TALK* the guard standing before the entrance. This is one of the major things everyone forgets to do and are confused as to why the door won't open. She will tell you the Minister went ahead by himself and for you to just go down there. Once inside head down the two flights of stairs until you're inside the main area of the ruins (it's straightforward with only one way to go). Since I don't see a map of the ruins on the site let me make one that should help.

E is the entrance into main part of the ruins.
X are the pedestals on which the mana orbs are placed. You will need to literally check each one to see which has the broken orb.
X is the two entrances to the lower depths of Horutoto Ruins Inner. If you click on these and see dirt instead of a brick path, you're in the wrong place unless you're looking for a quick death.
C is the cracked entrance. Click on this to open the pathway to...
M is your destination. This is where the Minister is.

Double clicking on the black door at M will go to a cutscene. After it's over, head back to the cracked door (C) to be back into the main area. Start checking each mana orb until you get the one that is broke. Find your way outside and head back to Windurst. Head on over to Port Windurst and talk to same Tarutaru on the stage. He'll tell you his opinion of the minister and take the broken orb from you. This mission is now complete :)

Wrong Secret Door
# Dec 05 2003 at 11:22 AM Rating: Decent
If you entered a secret door and got your *** handed to you, then you entered the WRONG secret door. When you enter the CORRECT secret door the cut scene starts immediately. I did this at L6, but I followed a L16 player through it. She led me to the correct door and killed all the mobs. It was great. Unfortunately I have to do the mission again with my ALT character.

Quote:
"door to magical gizmo". This door is locked. It may not be the right door but Im fairly certain i talked to all the right NPCs before going. If this is the door, how do i unlock it?

I cannot figure out how to get this door open. Is there something that I am required to do in order for it to open? I can't get through there to get the second cut scene to start.

If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated.

Are you certain you're in the right Tower?

I ran this mission the first time at level 2 (for the heck of it), following someone higher level around with his permission. Assuming you're in the correct tower (EAST tower and not Southeast, which I believe the NPCs out side will inform you of):

When you enter the ruins you'll follow a stairway down - I think there are two room landings before you reach the bottom with Battue Bats in them. At the bottom begins the main room of this tower - a large square/circle with 4 smaller rooms you can reach down short hallways at each corner of this main room. The secret doorway you want in THIS tower is directly arcross from where you enter the main room - follow either the left or right wall around to the far side, ignoring the short hallways at the corners of this main room.

You should be able to just double click on the wall to open it and move through. At the end of the short hallway is a crosswise hallway - to the right is a dead end, to the left you'll find another small room with a couple of goblins in it unless they've been killed recently. In this small room is another set of doors (obvious, not hidden) - double click on them for the cut scene, then check for the cracked orb.

The only locked hidden doorway I'm currently aware of is in the Tower for the second mission - you get a key from then NPC out front if you've started the second mission. This is the Southeast Tower, not the East Tower. (My first attempt at reaching the right tower, this is the first one I tried, however the NPC did specifically let me know which tower I was at - and I tell ya, at level 2 I was wary of making the trek to the correct tower for the first time when I learned my mistake)

You'll need to cross a bridge/stream at least once to get to the correct tower.
How to finish it
# Nov 24 2003 at 12:44 AM Rating: Good
just finished quest ... very simple

go into middle tower on east saru, map grid J7

go into the big room, and follow it around to the following side, the side that is opposite the one you come in. there are 2 lights on the flat wall, the door is in between them. open it and go down hall and to the left, then to the door and open it and watch the cutscene. the guy tells you to go to all the gizmos in the big room and open then to find the broken orb.

once you got the broken one, just go back to town and go to the orastory and give it the taru on the stage and your done
after the cutscene

Get the Cut Scene, THEN check the orbs. If you're low enough level (switch jobs for that if you like), just get through to that 2 goblin room before the cut scene and double click the doors while they beat on you. From what I've seen, as long as you're in a cut scene the beasties can't hurt you. Once you're out of it, of course, you'll die, but you'll have that small part out of the way. Then check the orbs.

The cut scene is when you're told to check the orbs. Since you're not finding the right one beforehand, I'd assume you need to watch the scene before you're flagged to be able to actually find one.

I wasn't able to complete this, solo, until level 8 as a White Mage. On the other hand, you could just hang around until several other people are working on the Mission and it's safe, if you want to complete this at your Job's level without dying. Kill other goblins and bats while you wait, so the time isn't a total waste. :)
RE: Gobs in the Wall..
# Nov 19 2003 at 3:36 AM Rating: Default
it should be only 4 orbs for you to inspect for Mission 1. Mission 2 comes with 6 orbs. So are you talking about Mission 1?

If it's mission 1, you need to take the cracked orb back to the Orastory, to gain your rank.

If i remember correctly, the cut scene should come before the inspection of the orbs.
RE: Gobs in the Wall..
# Nov 20 2003 at 4:28 AM Rating: Decent
There are 6 orbs in mission 1.
2 on the east and west "sides", and 1 in each corner, NW/NE/SW/SE.

The "hidden door" to start the whole thing is on the south side opposite where you enter the "big room" all the way down the stairs.

RE: More than one tower?
# Nov 17 2003 at 11:26 AM Rating: Default
How to know which tower....
There are 3 towers visible on the Ease Saruta map. The towers kinda look like "white outlined trees", they are really not very distictive.
Looking at the map....far eastern side about midway up:
Tower for Rank 1 Mission 2
going straight north from this tower leads you to
Tower for Rank 1 Mission 1
going northwest from this tower leads to another
in the extreme north part of the map.
(I hope memory served me well on this LOL)
RE: More than one tower?
# Nov 17 2003 at 10:28 PM Rating: Default
Well I screwed up LOL. To put it simply the tower in the south is for Rank 1 mission 2,
the tower in the mid portion of the map nearly straight north of the previous tower is Rank 1 mission 1 tower. I haven't done the 3rd mission so im not sure where it takes place.

Where the hell is the Tower in East Sataburata? The East Sataburata are is huge and there is nothing on the map that even says Horutoto Ruins. Thank God the strategy guide is out today. There's gotta be easier quests around Windhurst to build your character for these missions.

After hunting all over and many, many deaths I bumbled onto the solution. Here's what you REALLY do.

Enter the ruins, and follow the hallway around and down until you are dumped into the large room.

Look at the map. This room is circular-ish with 4 little cubicles at the corners. There are secret doors in the two western cubicles, but these aren't the secret doors you want.

Instead, go to the center of the SOUTH-MOST wall of the big room. There is the secret door that leads you to the gate.

There were no monsters in the secret area when I was there, but there was a couple of higher level players, so they may have cleared them prior to my arrival.
