Walkthrough

Hand in 12-18 crystals or so from empty rank to receive mission, I turned in 18 and got it no problem. ( I did this mission as a red and used sneak/invis and bought a scroll of warp to return. If you don't have invis/sneak you might want to buy some oils and powders )

After getting it go to the star sybil tree in windurst walls. Go and talk to Kupipi the taru clerical assistant you talked to for the dragon mission. She will give you a key item that lets you go upstairs.

Enter the second level via the doors near Kupipi and go all the way up to the very top level, you don't need to talk to any of the taru on the second level.

At the top talk to the guard named Rhy Epocan, this will trigger a cut scene with Semih Lhafihna and Ajido-Marujido. She will tell you to follow him.

Use the transporter ( blue light near where you talk to the guard ) to get back to the first level so you can exit.

Now go to the Orastry in Port Windurst and talk to Hakkurur-Rinkuru. He will tell you that the minister has gone to Castle Oztroja.

Since you are in windurst port, stop by the star onion kids and get the 4th mission from them, it will be about the cat burglar and a ghost etc, and they want a key from the minister. Nothing will show up in quest log yet, but don't worry as long as they tell you about the ghost and the need for the item from the minister you are ok.

The next step is to Choco to Castle Oztroja which is located in L-8 of the Meriphataud Mountauns. ( Map of the castle can be bought in windurst woods from the map vendor there for 3000 gil )

Inside the castle, head to the door at J-8 and use the lever there to open a trap door. (You must be standing between the two levers to open the trap door)I used invis/sneak to get to the location, though at level 30 most were easy prey. Letting a yag turn his back to me I cancled invis and hit the lever. This triggers a cut scene with you and the minister down in a lower level.

When the scene is over check the floor, you will see a circle that is targetable on the floor, click it and you receive the old ring key item for the Star Onion quest.

At this point I used a warp scroll to head back to town so I can't help you on getting out from there.

Once in town go back to Heavens Tower in Windurst Walls and talk to Rhy Epocan again to trigger the final cut scene and finish the mission.

I truly wish I had read this post PRIOR to attempting to complete what appeared to be an easy mission (which would have been, like I said, if I had read this first...). Died twice as lvl 22WAR in about 5 minutes. Made it to the door with train of Votary and theologist Yag's behind me (est. about 8 of them) and attempted to click on the door...bad idea. Gave me the ol "Door is Locked tight..." message and I was swarmed. Got a Raise from a very nice JP WHM, and she even fought off about 3 Yag spawns as I rested (very fortunate for me, or so I thought). As she was killing the last one, I attempted several times to pull the levers by the door (read this in the Brady guide) and kept getting the "You cannot reach the lever" or something like that message. Once again the nice mage attempted to help me by opening the door for me...I was so happy at this point. Until, I enter the door, no cut scene, and 3 IT+ Yag's staring at me from about 15 meters. Done. I have never seen 456 hp disappear so quickly (ummm Edit: at least to that point, until later that night I went to Qufim to level, and a Pugil hit me with Screwdriver for 395 hp in one strike...ouch! Even my party members where like "wow..."). It appears the thing I was missing out on was that I had to stand DIRECTLY between the levers while attempting to pull the trap door. Now I assume, unless someone says otherwise, I can pull EITHER lever, so I will try and hopefully succeed with this assumption tonight.

CORRECTION: The castle is at L-8 in the mountains.

As a lvl 30 war, this was very easy. I prepped by buying 2 prism powders and 2 silent oils. Everything checked as easy in the first area, and I could even take 3 at a time. I only used the first batch of sneak/invis to save some time.

After the cutscene, I decided to fall again and try to get out. There was nobody around, so I used my sneak/invis items again, but I accidently used invis first, so it wore off right away. Just run all the way down the hall until you get to an open area. Turn left immediately, and go back through the opening. You'll be back in the first area, so head back to the entrance. Most likely, you'll have a long train of Yagudo at this point, but it's not a long run, so you should be fine. Just make sure you buy the map.

This was fun, especially the music during the cutscene!

I just finished the quest and the door in the castle is actually at I-8. Also, if you're too cheap to use and scroll of instant warp, to get out you have to click on the circle again. It opens up and you can drop down to a lower level. Everything in the lower level conned as IT to me as a lvl 25. Just follow the stair up until you get to a garden and then head to the left back inside. I forget all the turns I took but this part is easy, just try to get back to the entrance at F-8.
This is Fun

It means if you've just hit rank3, you will need to give one of the guards at the gate a stack or two of crystals(any kind will do, earths are of course cheapest!). Any guard in Windy with "W.W" after his/her name will accept a trade of crystals. This will add rank points to your profile and open up this mission :)
Somewhat easy mission

This mission can be easy if you have sneak/invisible, and have a scroll of instant warp on hand.

The first time I tried this, the Sneak wore off next to a few Yagudos and I got mauled, thus I ended up using the warp scroll.

The second time, I was able to drop through the trap door while a Yagudo hit me. I grabbed the ring quickly and warped to my HP while the Yagudo was STILL hitting me.

At the time of doing this, I was a level 30 WHM.

Just a note: The lever/trap door is actually at I-8, not J-8. I did a lot more running than needed since I thought since these directions said "J-8" that it must be on another level of the map. It isn't, just whoever wrote these directions probably didn't use <pos> while they were at the lever, and maybe misread the map.

Old Ring
# Feb 29 2004 at 11:30 AM Rating: Decent
Make sure you check the circle on the floor and get the Old Ring. You need it for a quest in windurst called Onion Rings. The reward is bad but hey its easy fame. On Leviathon i think i put the Club on sale for 300 gil. w00t

Dude! This was the funniest-scariest mission I've ever done. I had help from 2 40+ WAR and a WHM. It was easy to reach the trap doors, but suddenly I had the scariest moment since I've been playing this game... we were about to reach the trap doors when a lvl 65 thief "fled" by running like hell, with (I swear to God) like 200 Yagudos behind... it was the scariest mob train you could ever see! We had to stand like statues in a corner while the yagudos came back, it was so funny!

I want to stress this point, from doing the mission last night.
BRING A SCROLL OF INSTANT WARP

I soloed it in as a lvl 33 WHM/BLM and got by with no issues. They were all conning Easy with a few decents. Leaving the room however was a different story. You pull the trap door (2nd one) and I fell on a Yagudo Oracle's elemental.

He wasn't very impressed and smacked my little Taru body all around the cave.

BRING A SCROLL OF INSTANT WARP!!!

blm
# Feb 05 2004 at 3:53 PM Rating: Default
Blah I also went there as a lvl30 blm/rdm, killing some monster in the way then move carefuly, then I arrived at the J-8 corridor without much trouble and there was 5 yagudo in that tiny place, with the time it would take me to kill them tge other yagudo I killed around would have the time to repawn, but I tryed anyway.

So i pull a yagudo priest carefuly, none of them link, and I start fighting him. The ******* casted dia and then got like 5 critical strike in a row, and his spell did a lot of damage too, I was killed by an easy prey priest ?! (well I didnt checked it, but all the other monster were easy prey, are the monster near the lever stronger or something?)

I really killed all the other yagudo with ease, and when that &?%$& killed me he had like 2 life remaining, he hitted harder with his staff then those yagudo monk (wtf?) and his spell did way more damage then a theologist! And hes a "Priest" huh

I'm really pissed, so to the guy who was the same lvl and job as me could you please explain me how you got there without beeing slaughtered? Someone MUST have killed some of the yagudo there before you came
Mission Walkthrough

The mission walkthrough was kind of unclear on some things so I made a step by step on this mission as I did it.

Hand in 12-18 crystals or so from empty rank to receive mission, I turned in 18 and got it no problem. ( I did this mission as a red and used sneak/invis and bought a scroll of warp to return. If you don't have invis/sneak you might want to buy some oils and powders )

Use the transporter ( blue light near where you talk to the guard ) to get back to the first level so you can exit.

When the scene is over check the floor, you will see a circle that is targetable on the floor, click it and you receive the old ring key item.

At this point I used a warp scroll to head back to town so I can't help you on getting out from there.

Once in town go back to Heavens Tower in Windurst Walls and talk to Rhy Epocan again to trigger the final cut scene and finish the mission.

I've had this mission accepted by the gate guards but when I go to Heaven's tower I can't go up the staircase, I've talked to kupipi and get no key... any suggestions?

When you have the quest accepted and then talk to Kupipi you should get a key item that will enable you to open the door to the stair. I cant remeber the name of the key item but... Thats how i did it.

# Dec 31 2003 at 11:22 AM Rating: Default
Im a lvl 26 white mage and found the easyist way is really to have sneak and invis. I heard that the higher your rank the longer it lasts and it lasts pretty long for me.

I got through Castle Ortroja and diddnt get agro'ed once. Then after that i went to room got the ring and used a scroll of instant warp. Its really best to AVIOD fights here because other wise you would need to be at lest lvl 35 to live.

I went to the lever where the guide says and when I went to pull it, a message said "You cannot reach the lever" even though I was standing right next to it. What's going on here?
RE: Confounded Lever
# Jan 02 2004 at 10:06 AM Rating: Default
I found that you need to be standing directly in between the 2 levers so that the trap door can open underneith you. You get the error if you aren't standing on the trap door.
