My linkshell just did the mission last night, we were 7 people and had a lv71 WAR escort through the tower. One death in total because the guy got surprised by the NM spawning while the others were still fighting a giant. Meh. I raised him and we continued the mission.

Took us about 2 hours in total, I'd say. Found the mission kinda hard cause there are a LOT of enemies in the tower and most of them aggro, especially bats.
Solo

I am a rdm and can sneak my way anywhere (deodorize, sneak, invisible), how high a lvl would I need to be to solo the bosses? I probably won't, but it sounds like the hardest thing to do for this quest is get an organized party.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jan 01 2004 at 11:39 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Is there anyting you can do with the key after the mission?
directions
# Dec 30 2003 at 9:20 PM Rating: Excellent
The <pos> are for stairs/teleports, and their rough cardinal direction.

1st Floor: E-6 (NW)
2nd Floor: I-9 (SE, deadend at H-9, so go east first)
3rd Floor: G-6 (or J-8, but I think that might be one way only)
4th Floor: I-6 (NE, deadends at G-7, H-9, J-9)
5th Floor: H-9 (S, deadend at I-10, so go west first)
6th Floor: J-10 (SE)
7th Floor: F-6 (NW)
8th Floor (1st time): I-6 (NE)
9th Floor (1st time): I-9 (SE, this sends you back to 8th floor)
8th Floor (2nd time): F-9 -> 9th Floor
9th Floor (2nd time): F-6 -> 10th Floor
10th Floor: Fight Mimas at H-7 and Porphyrion at H-8 for keys, then use elevator at H-8 (Note: beware of elementals that spawn under certain weather)

Basement: for ambassadors (use same key as elevator), M-7 Windurst, M-8 San d'Oria, L-9 Bastok, then use F-8 to go back to 1st floor and exit.

Warning: Having yet to do the mission, I came up with this by studying detailed maps. So actual conditions may differ. Use at your own risk.

These are EXCELLENT directions! That said, having just completed the mission using these directions, I would still recommend completing the quest to get the map (see the old man in front of the entrance to Qufim fron Port Jeuno).

While a group of level 30's can do this by mowing a path through the entire tower (which we did for much of the mission), it is MUCH more efficient to just sneak/invis past as many mobs as possible.

excellent directions!

met with the ambassidor... and then wasn't sure which way to go...

found the elevator back to the 10th floor, and got owned by several mobs, with Porphyrion dealing the killing blow.

luckly had hp set in jueno and completed the mission.

EVERYONE, this post is very important. a friend and i from my linkshell jsut finnished thius quest in 1 hour thanks to this post.

THis is what Tdien and i (clayaustin Ramuh server) did.

we started a two person party. Him and i took it very slow and causions. i cast sneak and invis on eachother on each lvl. when we went up a lvl, we cancled the buffs and then recast. i followed a printout of the post above where locations are at. when we reached the top a Kind high lvl whm helped us fight a HUGE GIANT (OMG it was scarry). then that was that.

some recomendations.
1. have map. talk to the NPC at the zone entering Quifim. get a kiser sword from AH. 2000 gil. he will give you a map for that. If he wont give you the quest. register expansion.
2. if you must have a full party, split up into twos. in each group of twos, have a whm to cast sneak and ivis on party.
3. move fast though lvls. lots of gobs. everything aggros.
4. if a message appears saying "sneak", or "invis about to wear off". STOP at a secure location and recast. and continue.
5. the key is to not be sene by anything.

its hard to travel though such a large number of gobs with a full group. casting sneak on all party members will take alot of time and doesnt work well. so, go in sets of two!!

Hope this helps.

Where in god's name is this "mandatory alliance" thing coming from? You do NOT need an alliance for this mission. That part needs to be removed as it is just going to confuse everyone reading it.
RE: Ugh
# Jan 02 2004 at 12:32 PM Rating: Default
Agree, Alliance is NOT mandatory. The higher up in character level you are the less people you need.(did it with 3 and no whm)
The named mob is behind one of the doors on 10th lv. and the Named mob isnt hard att all. dropped 6keys for 3people :o
Can't get this one
# Dec 28 2003 at 2:32 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a lvl 31 War/15 RNG and have completed all missions up to this one. I have talked to Gate guards, and Sir Lucius but can't get the mission. My rank is about 66% full for lvl 3. Do I need to completly fill up the "Rank Meter"? How would I do that as the guards aren't taking any crystals from me? Any ideas would really help!
RE: Can't get this one
# Jan 30 2004 at 9:25 AM Rating: Default
You should eithr trade stacks of earth and water crystals to the gate guards, that cast signet on you, or you should redo older, repeatable, missions. Only reason I say earth and water is cause the rest are worth way too much in the AH to trade to a guard for rank. Sounds like your rank is not high enough. I had to redo the Jacko mission, (save the children), 5 times to get the Journey abroad quest to show up, (only god knows why).

Simple

WHM lvl 43 can solo the NM alone, with Holy breastplate off course ^^
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 22 2003 at 5:02 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This mission took 18 of us roughly 9 hours and that is no joke. I started the first part of the mission at 9 at night and finished sometime after 6 in the morning. My party consisted of 18 peeps lev 29-41 me being 38 pal. I beleive we had a combined death toll of about 20. The castle is definately the hardest part. To be honest with you at the end of this mission I wanted to blow my head off but now realize the airship pass was well worth the misery not to mention the 10k in gil..
#Anonymous, Posted: Jan 13 2004 at 2:20 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) LOL> maybe you should follow though with that blowwing your head off idea.

The Bastok beginning of this mission tells me to go talk to Sir Lucius...is he in Bastok or Jeuno?

RE: Sir Lucius

Sir Lucius is in the metalworks in the Aide Office, which is next ot the Presiedents office. After that, you talk to Goggehn in Rulude Gardens

while the mission DID take about 3+ hours to complete. we finished the mission with only a 6 person party.

it was a

32-33 war/rng (i leveled half way thru
30 bard/whm
30 whm/???
30 pal/???
30 blm/whm?
31 blm/???

all of us are in the same LS and work VERY VERY well together, and with no outside help managed to get through the entire tower.

we beat the NM holding the keys relativly easily, killed the NM Mimas and beat the boss a SECOND time. (some mishap caused 2 of us not to get keys ) ALL without anyone dying a single time.

so a 30ish party of 6 can do this mission. IF you work well with your team.
NOT EASY

omg i just did this... took 4 hours. Just remeber to keep track of floor whoever has map and there is a wierd telport at 9th floor er somthing. kinda tired. use the key on the elevator in the room with phyp. AND at the door to ambasider... not used up on the elevator. Had 14 people in our alliance. ALSO at end keep in mind need 3blms to exit out and target the group. Im a 27THF/13MNK and was tied for lowest lvl in the alliance. Had a lvl 45 in the alliance too. Takes a long time to get partys and long to climb.

The NM Phyporion

Can anyone tell me how strong this monster is?
not a mandatory alliance mission
# Dec 04 2003 at 3:02 AM Rating: Default
this is not a mandatory alliance mission. you can do this if you have 2 lvl 40's in your group and you can sneak+invis your way to the top in less than an hour. just make sure leader has map of tower and you'll be fine.
Mistaken
# Dec 03 2003 at 7:45 PM Rating: Default
All of you who posted here are mistaken. This mission is correct, the Journey Abroad is the one where you have to travel to the other nations. This is missioin 9, the one you are talking about is mission 6.

The airship pass is given as a reward for rank 5, so you dont have to pay 500k for it.

Had a level 65 warrior escort me through the whole tower & get me a key. Man...I don't know how long it would take to hold a team togheter through the whole tower. It's a reeeaallly long journey. Multiple rooms of potential adds. At least the boss drops plenty of keys!
Airship Pass Free
# Nov 20 2003 at 10:31 AM Rating: Default
Rank 5 Comes with a Free Airship Pass. This was confirmed to me by a Level 70 Dark Knight
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 18 2003 at 7:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) vegetatheprince....it does sound to me like theres a mistake too, the mission you speak of requires you to travel all the way to the consulates in windurst and bastok. in windurst you are given a shield to offer at the treasure room in giddeus. the treasure room is underground, so when you see the path on the map go offscreen, thats where it is. youll know youre near the treasure room by the torches and seeing named yagudos. also, on the way back to town for this mission, youll have to kill 2 zuu buxu the silent. he drops parena shields, and youll need two. take those back to the consulate, then youll be on your way to bastok, where youll have to go to a mine.
RE: word word.
# Jan 10 2004 at 11:50 PM Rating: Decent
WTF are you talking about, that is NOT the mission 3/3 to get rank 4. You're talking about the mission where you have to travel to the other 2 kingdoms, mission 2/3 which is required for rank 3.

I believe people are getting confused because the name of mission 3/3 is different depending on what nation you're from.

For Bastokians the mission is called "Jeuno"
For San d'Orians the mission is called "Appointment to Jeuno"
For Windhurstians the mission is called "A New Journey"

It's the one where you need to go to Qufim and NOT the other countries. Get it Right before you make a dumbass post.
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 18 2003 at 2:53 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) That's because this is that mission.
i thinks theres a mistake
# Nov 18 2003 at 11:45 AM Rating: Default
i have this mission. i was asked to go to bastock and windhsurt and talk to the consult there. i went to windhurst first .(i dont know why) but they gave me a shield and ihad to take it to giddeus's treasure room. i bought the map to giddeus but i cant seem to get into this one area on the map. plz help me.also i dont see this part of the mission on this mission forum page.thank u
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 31 2003 at 11:51 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) There's not a mistake. The mission you're on is mission 2-3. This mission requires you to goto JEUNO and find an AMBASSADOR. Honestly, is it that hard to read?
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 17 2003 at 1:25 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Do u know how difficult to earn GIL in this game, i think u must use more time to earn 500k then reaching rank5...
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 17 2003 at 11:02 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm nowhere near ready for this mission ... nor am i on it... i just wanted to say that i am not looking forward to it and kinda want to start saving that 500,000 gil for my airship pass.... ***** rank 5... i would like to thank you all for reading my pointless comment... if you would like to contact me to tell me just how much you agree... look for me, Savage, in the Odin server... ttyl!
