Mission Orders

On the Star Sibyl's command, you are to head north to the ruins of Fei'Yin, somewhere on the Beaucedine Glacier. There, you are to confirm whether the final seal is doing its job.

Walkthrough

Speak to a gate guard to begin this mission. You are needed at Heavens Tower. Head upstairs to the Star Sibyl's Chambers for a cutscene. You will receive the key item: New Fei'Yin Seal. If you cannot receive the seal, make sure your rank points are full and try zoning out of the tower then go back to the chamber again. This quest cannot be completed without the seal!

When ready, head to Fei'Yin either by going through Ranguemont Pass, or by getting a Teleport-Vazhl if everyone in your party has the crystal. It is recommended you have a map or a printed map as Beaucedine Glacier can be a very confusing maze to navigate.

When you zone into Fei'Yin, you will get a cutscene. After the cutscene, head to (K-8), where you will find two dolls and a Cermet Gate on the east wall. Head to the gate to find Qu'bia Arena. Some mobs aggro to magic and many others aggro to sound, so it's recommended every party member bring their own Sneak Oil.

You have 15 minutes to defeat Archlich Taber'quoan and his minions, the Ancient Sorcerers and Ancient Warriors. Everyone must be on this mission or higher or they will not be able to enter the battlefield. Once you defeat the Archlich, the battle will end and you will receive a cutscene and a key item: Burnt Seal.

Return to the Star Sibyl to finish this mission.

Update Notes

As of February 14th, 2011, there is no longer a level cap restriction on the mission battlefield.

Battle Notes

Buffs cast outside the battle will wear off upon entering, so do it inside. The Ancient Warriors keep spawning, so focus on the Archlich. You only need to defeat him to win. The minions are easily slept.

Quite simply, the hardest part is getting everyone to the BCNM. Get a monk (preferably two), PLD (holy circle, and invincible), RDM (backup cures and refresh), WHM (curagas), BLM (damage. Can be replaced with another monk).

If you want to, do a Transfixion, Liquefaction, or Fusion skillchain. Magic burst with light or fire. Mages should use only fire or light spells.

Use all buffs before entering the BC. Eat food, etc. Once inside, melee need to use job abilities (focus, berserk, warcry, dodge, defender, etc). PLD runs into BC, with everyone else staying behind, but close.

PLD vokes the archlich. Everyone else targets the archlich and attacks. Healers stay as far back away as possible, but within range.

Do the SC ASAP, then have the monk(s) use hundred fists. Have them get behind PLD, for cover. PLD uses invincible to hold hate (if it works). Have the monks use Raging Fists at 100% TP.

DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE MINIONS.
Do not try to sleep them.
Do not AoE WS them
Do not use AoE magic.

Just kill the archlich.

I swear we were gonna reach the core of the planet by the time we got to the Burning Circle.
It didn't take much to take the leader out. Being that I am only lvl 40 Pld...I thought for sure I was gonna be the unlucky chap to die but no. One we buffered up, I charged in swinging wildly, hoping to connect...but when you got 2 monks, it don't really matter. 2 minutes & 15 seconds later ( 6 seconds too much from claiming the record on Titan...so close)I'm swinging at air & the whole thing is over...no one even close to dying. Party contained 1 pld (me)at lvl 40, 2 mnks, 1 drg, 1 whm which were all capped at 50 (only 5 people in all). I think if you had 3 mnks & 1 whm you could pull this off with ease as well. Much respect the the monk legion. If only all fights were this easy.

i want to no if this is just an SE error in my favor or if others are having this luck too. i made rank 5 a few weeks back by having high levels rush me thru the 3 magicite. immeadiately after i talk to halver back in sandy i go and turn in a bunch of crystals almost maxing my rank bar and sadly realize i cant get next mission as i am still only lvl 30 in my highest job. so i spend the next few weeks questing arround sandy and bastock cause halver keeps saying come back when im stronger. i lvled bst from 5 to 8. then turn to thf lvld it up to 12 and went back to camping/farming. got some new equip for my 30 war(leaping boots, two mithran scimitars, and kamphbrust) then yesterday after a failed expeditionary force i was running around sandy as my shiny newly equiped war and stop to talk to the gatehouse mission gaurd at west gate south sandy and the screen changes and a new mission is available for me: the ruins of fey yin(sp?) im slightly shocked after seeing and heering everywhere that i need to be lv45. gaurd tells me to report to halver where i get a cutscene and he talks about the northern seal, then i get a key item:new fey yin(sp?) seal. i got this mission at level 30! is this normal or is this an accident?

Its normal. You can get missions whenever you have enough rank points. you just won't be able to get a pt for it until you hit 45.

First time I did this my Party got slaughtered. It was terrible. The ranger D/Cd right after entering the circle. Everything just fell apart after that.

Then I decided to do some research and try again.

Party setup was this:
Paladin, White Mage (Me), Monk, Monk, Dark Knight, Bard

And everything went perfect.

Bard and WHM Buff once inside. Then the Paladin charged in and engaged the ArchLich with the Monks and DK behind. Paladin Use Invinible and Monks 2-hour.

Everyon 15 seconds Lesser Skeleton Spawn and Bard did his one and only Job: Horde Lullaby.
Never had to worry about them, The Bard kept them all busy.

I healed party and the ArchLich went down Incredibly fast.

Finished this with a Record Time of: 2 Minutes 35 Seconds on the Valefor Server.

Advice: Party Setup here is Key
Monks are Best at Undead. DK just wailed on them.
WhM for healing and tele home, Pld for hate control and Bard for Lullaby. With that party setup its almost IMPOSSIBLE to lose.

Good Luck! and Hope this Helps.

This was really more of a disapointment really. From the descriptions it seemed like it would be alot tougher. Setup was pld/war <me> whm/blm, mnk/war, drg/thf. rdm/nin, and blm/whm
Plan goin in was that i would run in and gain hate from all (provoke flash, etc) and get links. Mnk followed in and used hundred fists on arch, drg helped with melee attacks. Blm used aga's on minions, I covered as much as possible, but they dropped like flies. Only thing that surprised us was that they respawned almost immediately after defeating them. RDM was spamming cures on Blm, for hits i couldn't take and whm healed mnk. No problems at all, Shadowlord is goin down now
Just know what you're doin and u should have no probs

Just did this about 10 minutes ago. Our setup was
PLD, DRK, MNK, MNK, BLM, RDM.
We set the server record with a time of 2:07. We took advantage of our ability to buff before entering and tore it up. I tanked all the little fellas while the MNKs Hundred Fist-ed it up. It was officially awesome

Did it just a moment ago.
We did it in 4 min and 22 second while the record on Seraph server is 2 min and 15 seconds.

Our setup was: PLD, WAR, RDM, DRG, SMN, BRD

Heh instead of the PLD tanking, i went tanking for all of the sudden. Probably because of my damage, i used my 2 hour right off the start.
It doens't get closer...

My LS went as an alliance of 12. 6 would go first, and 6 would follow when they were done. I was in the PT who had to wait. We sat outside and watched the health bars of our LS mates fluctuate. Suddenly we hear the "No MP" calls from inside.

FYI, PT was: Thf, Whm, Pld, Whm, Rng, Drg

Pld soon dies, with one of the WHMs using Benediction dying shortly after. Other Whm falls to the ground from nuking the archlich with cure spells. Rng falls, then Drg falls. Whm 1 used his Re-raise soon after he died, and was again killed. This left the Thf, all alone, with about 700 hp. It looked like one hit dropped her to 300, and she used Perfect Dodge. All of us outside knew it was over... hopeless. Thf takes another hit (possibly a spell) and drops to 78 hp. Suddenly 5 messages spam across my chat window:

"You are too far from the battlefield to gain experience."

... "You won!?!"

The Thf finished off the Archlich, with her 5 other PT members dead, and only 78 health left. Not being able to "see" the actual battle still makes me sad, but being able to watch the results real-time was probably one of the coolest moments for me.

I'm the thf that was in this pt. What was killing me was the Archlich. His minnions, who were all trying to hit me, couldn't seem to hit me very much. Even before I threw on PD it was miss, miss, miss, but every once in a while they would land. But the Archlich was draining me and doing other crazy spells. The only reason I threw up PD was to buy me a couple of hits.

By the time all my friends were down, his life was at a miniscule amount. When I hit PD my tp was at about 90%. Although I wasn't doing much damage to the thing, I wasn't missing at all. So it didn't take long. I knew my PD timer was running down, and I was completely surrounded, so instead of throwing out a Viper Bite, (which I now firmly believe is useless against bones,) I hit Cyclone. I was only expecting to take the Archlich, but 4 of his minnions came with me. (And if you're wondering why I was using daggers, it's because my h2h skill is depressingly low.)

It was enough to win and get us out of there, but it was great to discover that all my friends can now finish 5-1. I just wish we could have all lived. :(

To triger this mission in Windurst, go directly to the Star Sybil and talk to her. I just took the airship home straight after talking to my embassy in Jueno after I hit rank 5

To trigger in Bastok, go talk to whoever

Easy Fight
# Oct 17 2004 at 3:52 PM Rating: Decent
Just finished this fight. It was pretty easy. We had PLD/War, DRK/WAR(me),THF/NIN, RDM/BLM, MNK/SAM, and WHM/BLM. We went in and the monk used hundred fists and started tearing it up. The pld used invincible to try to keep the hate but it didn't budge. Our whm was getting aggroed by all the skeletons and she had to use Bene to save herself. Soon after that she was down to 200hp, so i used Shockwave and took out like 6 of them. Monk used raging fists and after a bit more the archmage was dead!!!:)

Pretty much an easy fight. No one went below yellow except the whm, but she cured herself. We finished in about 3 min. About 40 sec after record.

Peffect party
# Oct 14 2004 at 12:41 PM Rating: Decent
The perfect party for this mission is 4 mnks a blm and a whm. The blm can handle the minions with any lvl 2 -ga spell and the mnks 2 hour + beserk+Focus+ and its dead in about 30 seconds. The whm just needs to focus on whicher mnk has hate he shouldn't be able to draw hate away from the mnk's 2 hour. I did this last night as a 53mnk(lvl cap of 50 of course) the rest of the party was mnk drg rng blm whm....drg + rng suck at bones and with the mnk's 2 hours we only missed the record by 10 seconds and thats because we buffed inside. Hope this is helpful and feel free to rate me up :)

Ahh, did this mission meself with a pretty good party, we had the following:

49Dragoon/warrior (me)
50Paladin/warrior
56Redmage/WHM or BLM *I forget:P*
50Whitemage/Blackmage
50Blackmage/Whitemage
60Bard/Whitemage

I suprised the whole group by pulling out my Staff and using Starburst ^_^. We were half NA players and half JP players but the translator was good enough. The bard forgot to get lvl 50 gear so he was running around butt naked, but it was all good. Slow, but we managed to do it in about 10 minutes. The Paladin used circle blade which was genious. He killed off ALL spawns that were around whenever he had the TP. Very handy considering the amount of time we took ^_^;. Firewing died though which made me sad, but meh, I got this finished with =D

The record on Garuda is 2 mins 17 secs. I just did this mission and that's the posted time. So you may wanna edit your post for a correction there.

This was way easy

46 mnk/war
48 blm/whm
49 whm/blm
50 brd/whm
50 pld/war
50 rng/nin

PLD went in first and grabbed the archmage, i ran around to the otherside of him away from skele spawns while the brd slept them.
I nuked away, the mnk hit 100 fists and b4 the rng even got his 2 hr off he was dead. Took us 4 mins or so but we stood around doing nothign at start of fight cause zomeone had probs getting into circle. Take a monk with you and the brd helped immensly with sleeping the spawns even though they weere way weak. PLD nice to keep hate so the blm could nuke away. other than that play around with it.
p.s. sorry about the spelling i need to go to bed now hehe
Record Breaker

Did this mission last night for the second time. Party setup was:
52Mnk/Thf <<<me
50Mnk/war
56Rdm/Blm
51Whm/Rdm
52Rng/war
52Drk/war

Let me tell you how easy this fight is first. All you need is 2mnks really. We went in and Chi blasted the archlich to get his attention. Me and the orther mnk lit up hundred fists and just wrecked the archlich. Rdm had time for one cure 3 on him and one haste ><. After my hundred fists wore off I had 200% tp and boosted>Sneak attack> raging fists for 700 damage and he fell to the floor wondering WTH happened to him. We got the record of 2min 3sec on Garuda server. All you really need is two mnks and a whm from what I know. This mission is really simple. Good luck to all who attempt. I believe I could beat that record also. If anyone on Garuda beats that record please POST.

#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 29 2004 at 5:43 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If a MNK+WHM were to duo this, MNK should sub RDM. Blaze Spikes+ Enspells only makes it quicker, especially the Enspell after Hundred Fists starts. He doesnt need /WAR for voke (he'll pull hate VERY fast) and /THF wont work cause SATA in a duo on a BCNM Mission Bosss aint gonna happen
Not too bad

I did this twice, both times with a slightly off-norm party:

PLD, WAR, DRG, BLM, RDM, WHM (all 50)

It's not bad as long as everyone keeps their heads. Let the PLD run in first and fight the Archlich near center of the room.

Give him a few seconds to cement a little aggro then everyone else rush in - mages stand along walls, tanks smack Archlich. Designate one tank (or RDM) as a part-time peeler for the WHM.

Though the Skeletal Sorcerors are tough, the Skeletal Warriors have like 10 HP. Any AE WS or -ga will kill them. Don't ignore them: their constant battering on the tank or mages will really start to add up, and killing them is so easy it's worth it.

Otherwise just focus on killing the archlich. We did it without 2hrs, and though most of us were in the yellow by the end of the fight there was never any serious danger.

Too bad he doesn't drop loot, I'd spend all day there ^^.

Did this last night in less then 3 minutes

all lvl 50
RDM/WHM Elvaan
WHM/BLM Taru
WAR/NIN Hume
WAR/MNK Galka
PLD/WAR Hume
BLM/WHM Hume

It was a total masacre. I chainspell'd and cure IV'd. BLM nuking with all spells she could muster. War/war/and pld doing their melee thing. WHM curing and droping Cure IV's on the lich... I pulled hate from all 3 melee in less then 30 seconds. Doing about 200+ damage per cast. BLM doing 200-300+ per cast. melee dropping 80-100+ per swing. It was really easy. we walked in with full TP and did 4 part skill chain with a double fire bursts that did 500 damage.

We just ignored the lackies. Someone did an AOE weaponskill though and killed them all with one 1 swing just to have them be summoned back. that was fun....

Hmmm. only one prob bob, u cant go into the battle with tp><. u have to zone into the burning circle. unless u used icarus wing, which is possible but not needed. as all u need here in this battle is a whm and a mnk.

this mission can easily done with a 50mnk and a 50healer...i was doing AF for mnk and i needed to death warp(would rather lose xp than send CP need manttle) so i decided i would try is i didnt 2hr and i got the main skele to about half health mnk can prolly solo thi swith 2hr and regen food + poitions but a healer would make this cake-all u need to do it kill the main 1 :)
