Mission Orders

On the Star Sibyl's command, you are to head north to the ruins of Fei'Yin, somewhere on the Beaucedine Glacier. There, you are to confirm whether the final seal is doing its job.

Walkthrough

Speak to a gate guard to begin this mission. You are needed at Heavens Tower. Head upstairs to the Star Sibyl's Chambers for a cutscene. You will receive the key item: New Fei'Yin Seal. If you cannot receive the seal, make sure your rank points are full and try zoning out of the tower then go back to the chamber again. This quest cannot be completed without the seal!

When ready, head to Fei'Yin either by going through Ranguemont Pass, or by getting a Teleport-Vazhl if everyone in your party has the crystal. It is recommended you have a map or a printed map as Beaucedine Glacier can be a very confusing maze to navigate.

When you zone into Fei'Yin, you will get a cutscene. After the cutscene, head to (K-8), where you will find two dolls and a Cermet Gate on the east wall. Head to the gate to find Qu'bia Arena. Some mobs aggro to magic and many others aggro to sound, so it's recommended every party member bring their own Sneak Oil.

You have 15 minutes to defeat Archlich Taber'quoan and his minions, the Ancient Sorcerers and Ancient Warriors. Everyone must be on this mission or higher or they will not be able to enter the battlefield. Once you defeat the Archlich, the battle will end and you will receive a cutscene and a key item: Burnt Seal.

Return to the Star Sibyl to finish this mission.

Update Notes

As of February 14th, 2011, there is no longer a level cap restriction on the mission battlefield.

Battle Notes

Buffs cast outside the battle will wear off upon entering, so do it inside. The Ancient Warriors keep spawning, so focus on the Archlich. You only need to defeat him to win. The minions are easily slept.

Monk Not Needed, But Nice
# May 30 2005 at 4:17 AM Rating: Decent
I joined a group to do this tonight, it was about 5AM and the group seemed sort of throw together to try and just get the mission done. Our party configuration was DRG, DRK, RDM, BLM, PLD, RNG (Me). First off, the music is awesome during the battle...I usually keep music off and listen to my stuff, but I turned it on to hear. The music is intimidating as well is countless minions coming in out of no where, but thats just my experience =P.

Anyway, we lost the battle and here are the details. The PLD went in first and got hate like he was supposed to. Everyone followed him in, I stayed far back just firing my arrows nonstop, doing good damage. Our DRK was a complete idiot and the whole battle was killing the minions coming in. The whole point of this battle is "Kill or be killed". When you kill the Archlich you win the battle, your goal is simply to kill it. When the last of us was killed the archlich had roughly 3 millimeters worth of HP left...obviously very little. Had the DRK done what we told him to and go after the archlich it would have been an easy victory.

Another problem, and complete shocker too. The BLM helping was Rank 10, 75BLM/37WHM...he casted reraise on himself prior to entering the burning circle. When we were all dead, HE RAISED HIMSELF! We were like, what the hell is wrong with you. He said "Well when was I supposed to raise?". I don't know how anyone gets Rank 10 and lvl 75 and be that stupid. He probably bought the account. Any how, it was a horrible experience...but one that I learned from. So I will form my own group later on and it'll likely be an easy victory.

Just make sure your players are experienced and this will be an easy battle, and again, monks aren't needed...but they are nice. Get a monk(s) if you can, you can't lose =P...well you can if you have people with the skill or lack thereof in my party tonight. Happy archlich hunting!

Today I did this Mission 5.1 for the 11th and 12th time.

I had my first loss at the 11th. Party setup was: DRK, SAM, NIN, RDM, BLM, MNK (me). The two mages sub'd WHM. In first half of battle things seemed to go well; started noticing ppl asleep. Strange to see DRK and SAM standing still in this fight. I also noticed the small "lime" skeleton head at the top of my screen, paralysis, most of the fight. Just before I dropped dead, I lost hate-the first time in all fights. ArchLich was at a sliver of life, but left standing.

Special note "We don't have Raise..aaaahhh!", or "When Everyone is Dead": one of our party decided to HP immediately, and lost exp, about 800exp. The rest of the party waited to get booted from 5.1 arena and received no loss of exp after we all HP'd. Stunned by the loss I arranged for party to return for a rematch after my (monk) 2hr reset.

The 12th Time: we returned with a different party configuration, same ppl but one differnt main job. It was now: WHM (lvl45), RDM, DRK, SAM, NIN, MNK (me). I passed out 2 icarus wings, one to DRK and other to SAM. Same strategy as first fight was used. 1) Full Attack on NM only, 2) Keep DD free of sleep, paralysis, slow, etc. It was a classic battle. MNK kept hate entire fight; four or five of minions pounded on monk. WHM was great. SAM dealt alot of damage, as did the DRK. Haste cast on Monk works wonders. It was a good success. Didn't beat the record on Remorah (2:20) but everyone in party was still well around half-life hp. Only Ninja died after this fight. He was so happy he used Miijin Gakure (think gob bomb here) after we Tele'd out. lol

Review some past battles: a) won with a lvl 38 WHM (crafty guy-ran ahead anon), b) won with a naked SUM (recruited on the spot after 1 ppl drop'd), c) pulled one out of the hat with 5 ppl (Paladin didn't understand-NM only), d) didn't break record with 2 monks (he forgot lvl 50 gear-another naked ppl).

Fight facts and tips: If ppl die in this fight, but party still kills NM everone gets the victory. You'll just need a raise outside of fight arena. Once NM goes down the cutscene begins. Monks keep hate, unless they're about to die, or are face up. Practically, you can win with five, just barely. Naked ppl "aren't" that effective, lol. Really, plan on getting Tele-Vahlz while your there if you don't have it, because you're going to need it soon. For those who can't cast sneak on themselves-bring a stack of Silent Oils and make it easy on everyone (macro item good). Silent Oil recommended for ppl under lvl 60 in Fei Yin.

Oh yeah almost forgot! In the Glacier don't cast near Elementals, unless you don't mind the fight. The floating eye thingy detects by "sight" (hence the big eyes). Got low Hp for some reason? The mobs in Glacier aggro low Hp. Mostly use Silent Oils if you have aggro problem.

Questions I still have: How can each of the mages classes best contribute to this battle? Would Silence against the NM and minions effectively swing fight? Would Sleep against mobs prove tactically good or great? Has any Whm used BanishgaII in fight, and what were the results? Has Paralysis been effectively used against these undead, in this arena?

Lvl 57 Monk Haolong; Remorah. If you need a monk for this battle /tell me. I enjoy this fight. Hope to capture the record for Remorah server some day. Take care; have fun!

A Good Strategy
# May 28 2005 at 10:07 PM Rating: Decent
Ok here is the strategy. When you enter the BC you will see 3 skelles. Two sorcers and the main skelle Arch tabar. Kill the two sorcs and then everyone focus on the main Arch Tabar. Its extremely helpful to have a Mnk go bonkers with Hundred Fists and Ragings fists. Also, the rest of your DD should be using AoE WS's my spinning Scythe was knocking out all of the minions in one shot ^^ Gl guys

Well we just killed this with:

PLD << Me
RDM
SAM
SAM
DRG
BLM

It was a pretty easy battle although everyone was in the yellow or orange at end of battle. Basically you need a well rounded party and you should be fine.
TIP: Only try to kill main guy, once he dies it is over and you win.

just did this last night w/ drg <me>, rdm, war, pld, mnk, and whm. The fight was fairly easy except when the pld went in and started fighting the skeletons instead of the Quoan, ><. But he came over and we won with no problem, just make sure everyone uses two hour. ^^

Okay. I've figured it out. The Mission NPC had one called Ruins of Fei'yin. I was looking for something named The Final Seal. I clicked on that and she sent me back to Halver. Thanks for the help.

I did this today with BRD BRD BLM BST MNK and WAR, it took 3 mins and 28 seconds, and was pretty damn easy, though we had all done the mission once before in other nations or while helping people. All you have to do really is kill the main guy and the rest die, and the main guy goes down pretty quick if everyone is attacking him... only bad thing is when he does blood saber. Prolly could have gotten a better time on the mission but we weren't really going for speed, just wanted to get it done.

I am level 55 and my rank points are full. I've already done the part where the embassy in Jeuno gives me a letter to take back to San d'Oria. Halver still tells me to work on my skills and equipment. Does anyone have any idea what I may be doing wrong?

OK....I have figured it out! It took a little persuading (2 stacks of poision potions, and a round of Guillotine) but Mr. Halver has finally seen it my way.
All you need to do is go talk to the gate guard and then go back and talk to Halver. So eay but this took me FOREVER to figure out. Hope this helps. When in doubt, just get physical with Halver.... ^^

i just finished with rank 4 tonight and gotten rank 5. My bar on top (nission points i suppose its called) was completely empty. I went straight from jeuno and talked to the gate guard that usually fives me the missions. He said to go speak to halver, i did, halver said to get ready and get better weapons and armor. I went back to the gate guard and spoke with him again and when the list of available missions came up the bottom one was "fey 'in" or however you spell it. I am a 42 drk.

Time to share my experience:

PT Setup: RDM, RDM, RDM, WHM, DRK, RNG... All lvl 50.

I was the tank for the little skeletons, So i just blink, stoneskin, phalanx, protect, shell, blaze spike at the start. the rest did the usual buffs.

I went first, Dia II'd one of the smaller skeletons, and then the other... All the rest charged, and got after the main. I stood by the door basically just curing, stoneskin etc until my mp was @ 50ish. chainspelled, converted, then, stoneskin, stoneskin, stoneskin. Had 8 skeletons come into arena in all... not fun! The battle lasted 8 minutes in all. No one died, so it was a huge success.

Ok I just got this done and here is the setup:
WHM50/BLM25
SAM47/WAR23
PLD45/WAR22
RNG47/NIN23
WAR49/NIN24
BLM47/WHM23 < Me

We went in the first time and I made the mistake of doing Poisanga which caused me to die and then everyone else to die in turn.

Second time we let PLD go in first get enough hate. I waited till the Archlich had about 90% HP left and then I start nuking. My MP ran out at about 50% and then I tried to /heal. A skeleton started running after me so I just unloaded whatever little MP I had left and started running (in a circle around the fight). He eventually killed me and 4 other people but in the end the SAM got to him. Tachi: Enpi is GOD.

I just did this mission, so I'll give you my experiences.

We got a party consisting of RDM RDM BRD THF DRG MNK by 7:30 today. We were done the BCNM by 9:00.

Anyway, once you get the Fei'Yin Seal key item, you don't need to go to Jeuno or anything, despite what some other people said.

When we went, one person didn't have the Vahzl crystal, the MNK, so we decided to walk instead. It wasn't too bad. I printed out maps of Beaucedine Glacier and Fei'Yin, and it wasn't too hard getting through these. However, Fei'Yin is a total !@#$#. Basically, my Silent Oil wore off in the middle of a room. It didn't give me any "Sneak is wearing" messages, so I didn't notice it. Before I realize, I have a train of about 5 Shadows and 3 Golems on my ***. Anyway, I die while my party watches :P It's okay though, I get a raise. Woops, wrong move, Shadows aggro low HP. A shadow from across the fair-sized room runs at me and kills me again. We kill everything and raise me again. So anyway, we find the elevator and enter Qu'Bia Arena and wait for raise sickness to wear off. Then we discuss the battle plan and enter.

Basically, the MNK/WAR was tanking. He would run up, voke, and 2hr. The other RDM was on healing duty, the BRD would help out as would I, and I would take care of the links. I thought these were going to be really easy, boy was I wrong. Eventually, I had about 3-4 beating on me, getting me into the red and stuff, the BRD saved me with his Horde Lullaby. By the time I'm done killing the first skeleton, I check the HP of the archlich. It's at like 5%. ***** the links, I Aero II'd the lich and killed him. We finished this in 4 minutes and 51 seconds, the record was 3 minutes 15 seconds. So anyway, I highly recommend getting a BRD or BLM for some kind of crowd control, it really helps. The MNK said he got 860ish on his Raging Fists.

Overall, a fun experience.

Did this mission successfully twice this week! First time the whm died. The second time the bard died. Both times we won. The NM will use paralyze and slow, which is frustating. Plan to counter both. Each party went with one Monk,me. I recommend two monks. I also recommend Icarus Wing for monk; take it before the NM fight; attack to NM and hit 2hr. In both fights, monk kept hate and held it. Minion will attack party, but once the NM is defeated the cutscene begins. If you beat the NM, everyone gets credit, even dead folks..This is a great fight. If you're on Remorah, tell me I would like to go. Haolong. In the second fight we just missed the recond on Remorah. With two monks we would own it. Party configuration: First Whm, Blm, Rdm, Monk, Paladin, Dark; Second, Ranger, Bard, Samurai, Monk, Rdm, Blk. If you're level 48 and under take Silent Oil at least a stack. Easier to keep aggro off in Fei Yin.

Our party setup was:
RDM/WHM (me)
BLM/WHM
BLM/WHM
RNG/NIN
THF/NIN
MNK/WAR

The first time we went in and ignored the small skeles, they took out the RNG first, RDM, BLM, BLM, and then went after the THF and MNK who eventually died. (Though they did get the mob down to a sliver of life.)

2 hours later, we tried again.

We went in, I casted refresh on all mages, haste on MNK. MNK went in, provoked, and I dispeled the main guy, and then melees engaged. (Prevents paralyze.) Both BLMs just spammed Firaga and whatever -ga spells they could and adds went down pretty fast. As main healer, it wasn't too hard. One of the BLMs got down to less then 50 HP twice from the adds, but the MNK was in pretty good shape. Between 3 refreshes, a haste, dispel, and cures, I only used ~500MP. One of the BLMs used all of his MP and the other about half. With monk the main guy goes down pretty fast anyways.

The biggest advice I could give is to dispel, haste, and control the links. Good luck. :)

Listen everyone,
At the end of 4-3, after you recived your rank and airpass, go talk to your embassy in Jeuno. if your Rank bart is low, he will say, for now help control the areas surrounding Jeuno. Go trade two stacks of crstals to the guards, then go back to the embassy. he will send you home to your nation where you can get the mission. if you go directly home after 4-3, do the same thing in your home nation.

ok, did this today 49 Mnk/War (me), Pld/War, Blm/Whm, Blm/Whm, Rdm/Whm.

We went in, we buffed, we had strategy set out. Pal went first and took hate of the minions, I ran in, Chi blast, didge/focus/berserk/hundred fists. First hit = me paralyzed + Blind from the spikes. Used Chakra immediatly, got it down to half fp with hundred fists, used Raging Fists @ 300 tp, 1 blm kept me healed, others focused on minions, Had it down to about 1/12 of its life, it weaponskilled me, killed me, went after blm, killed blm, first hit from pal + rdm fire killed it.

To do this easily and fast? party setup = 2 monks, 1 healer, 1 blm, 2 (enter random job here). monks hundred fist, healer heals, blm uses firaga on nm, as often as possible. monks raging fists at 300, then by the time they build tp to 100 again, it should either be dead, or raging fists will drop it.

yes, you do not need monks, it can be done without, but 2 monks > 5-1 nm

^^ hope this helped

p.s. 4 monks could own this, with maybe a blm to throw firaga once or twice (before he dies)

Did you talk to the Galka at the Bastok Embassy in Jeuno? After you go the the Archduke's palace, you need to head to the Bastok Embassy and talk to the Galka. He gives you a letter that you then take back to Bastok. Talk to Naji in Bastok and he will take you to see the President.

I just had a crazy adventure helping a friend with this mission. I had already completed this mission, but a RL friend of mine had just hit 50 mnk and need this mission. So him and I put a party together for this and we walk to Fei'Yin.

When we get to the BC two of our party memebers can't enter, so we decide to try it with four. The four party memebers in the fight are War/Nin(me), Mnk/War, Pld/War, and Blm/Whm. The Pld runs in and aggros the skeletons then vokes the Archlich. The Mnk and I follow him and the Blm stays back and does a great job of healing and nuking. We let the Pld build hate and then we pop Hundred Fists, Invincible, and Mighty Strikes. We only attack the Archlich and we manage to win with no deaths although the Pld only had 54 hp at the end of the fight.

The fight took over 10 minutes, but most of that was us four standing in the arena debating whether or not to go through with it. The actual fight didn't take too long. I know this because berserk and aggressor were still activated when the fight ended and I used those at the start of the actual combat.

I just thought I'd share this positive story because there are a lot of posts on here about this fight and death.

Its very important to know that the minion skeletons - even though they hit pretty hard - drop very easilly. Like 2-3 hits with my sword as a 60RDM annhilated each one. Just make sure you have one or two people working on the minions that come in and the rest go after the NM.
