Mission Orders

On the Star Sibyl's command, you are to head north to the ruins of Fei'Yin, somewhere on the Beaucedine Glacier. There, you are to confirm whether the final seal is doing its job.

Walkthrough

Speak to a gate guard to begin this mission. You are needed at Heavens Tower. Head upstairs to the Star Sibyl's Chambers for a cutscene. You will receive the key item: New Fei'Yin Seal. If you cannot receive the seal, make sure your rank points are full and try zoning out of the tower then go back to the chamber again. This quest cannot be completed without the seal!

When ready, head to Fei'Yin either by going through Ranguemont Pass, or by getting a Teleport-Vazhl if everyone in your party has the crystal. It is recommended you have a map or a printed map as Beaucedine Glacier can be a very confusing maze to navigate.

When you zone into Fei'Yin, you will get a cutscene. After the cutscene, head to (K-8), where you will find two dolls and a Cermet Gate on the east wall. Head to the gate to find Qu'bia Arena. Some mobs aggro to magic and many others aggro to sound, so it's recommended every party member bring their own Sneak Oil.

You have 15 minutes to defeat Archlich Taber'quoan and his minions, the Ancient Sorcerers and Ancient Warriors. Everyone must be on this mission or higher or they will not be able to enter the battlefield. Once you defeat the Archlich, the battle will end and you will receive a cutscene and a key item: Burnt Seal.

Return to the Star Sibyl to finish this mission.

Update Notes

As of February 14th, 2011, there is no longer a level cap restriction on the mission battlefield.

Battle Notes

Buffs cast outside the battle will wear off upon entering, so do it inside. The Ancient Warriors keep spawning, so focus on the Archlich. You only need to defeat him to win. The minions are easily slept.

Wasn't that bad

Party line up consisted of PLD, MNK, 2 BLM's, WHM, and a RDM/NIN. The biggest pain was the long walk from the tele crystal and the lvl cap. Once we got into the circle, it was easy from there. We had the 2 blm's and the mnk focus on the lich, while i 2 houred and kept the mobs off of the mages as best i could. All you need is to have the mnk focus on the lich, and the whm curing him and the pld. Other then that, it is that easy. Just pound the lich at all costs, cause after hes dead, the fight is over and the cut scene begins. I recommend printing maps off of here before ya go into fei yin so you don;t run in circles looking for the burning circle, its behind a door in K-8. Easy fight, easy mission, and good luck to everyone doing it. Don;t forget the lvl 50 cap on it also, so plan equipment accordingly.
MNK? PLD? {no thanks}

Brace yourself for possibly the most craptacular party to ever beat this fight...

NIN/WAR
DRG/WHM
SMN/BLM
DRK/NIN
WHM/BLM
RDM/WHM

Oh yes... soak in the pure horrid planning set up of this party.

Just incase you think I wrote it wrong, yes we did win with this party set up. The WHM died right before the end and no one even had yellow health, but we all know how to do our jobs as best we can, and we rocked him like a hurricane... ok more like a tropical depression.

There, now you can stop being little cowards that cling to your MNK's and PLD's to get this done.

EDIT: I'll give you 1 to 20 odds I was rated down by a PLD or a MNK because they feel 1% less useful. XD

If you think that's bad, how about rdm, rdm, whm, drg, war, bst (me)? We pulled it off. Same thing, whm bit it after bene, but we won.

So I was asking my LS the other day about 5-1, and what jobs would be needed to win etc, and no surprise everyone said to bring as many monks as you could. Unfortunately I did not know and level 50 monks, or any monks higher that needed to do 5-1 so I went to my other LS and rounded up the following jobs:
DRG/RDM (me)
PLD/WAR (Ullu)
PLD/WAR (Linhx)
RNG/NIN (Ariesol)
SAM/WAR (Saileron)
WHM/BLM (Katrina)

I was asking people if that set up could win and everyone said no since DRG and RNG aren't effective againt bones, but being bored and having nothing better to do we set out to prove them wrong. The hardest part actually was getting to the place, if you go to:
http://www.speakeasy.org/~sticks/ffxi/treasure/Fr_Fei'Yin.html
and make your way to K-8 from F-11 it is very easy to find. As for the fight itself we beat it in 3 minutes, and the SAM didn't even have his 2hr ready. I called wyvern and pentathrusted whenever I could, I probably got about 5 WS in I was getting TP so fast from being hit by all the minions. Anyways out general strategy was:
PLD1 vokes main skeleton, hits invincible and holy circle,
PLD2 vokes when invincible wears, hits invincible and uses holy circle
Beat the **** out of the archlich. The wyvern did a surprising amount of damage to the bones so don't let anyone tell you you **need** a monk for this mission. After that we went to do 5-2, and our BLM disconnected while going into the fight haha, but luckily we had a 75NIN who spammed ninja tools during that part of the fight. So for everyone who believes you need the "L337" setup to do anything, have a little sense of adventure and go againt the grain for once.

Cheers,
~Tazok

I just finished 5-1 with the follow group:

PLD/WAR
BLM/WHM
WHM/BLM
RDM/WHM
MNK/WAR
DRG/THF

Seriously, the hardest part of it was actually getting to the Burning Circle. If you have the right PT, the fight itself is a peice of cake. I refreshed everyone before we all went in, the PLD got a few seconds with the NM to grab hate, MNK and DRG started doing their things and the 3 of us mages sat back and casted. The following enfeebles WILL stick to the NM: Gravity, Paralyze, Slow. I tried Blind, but he resisted.

And just so everyone knows, if you take a MNK... Hundred Fists will pull more hate that Invincible does... so let the MNK go first, PLD go shortly afterwards.
Too easy....

I did this fight last night setting up my own group. We had pld (me), rdm, sam, war, and 2 blm. I used black curry, buffed with protect 3 and shell 2, rested to full, then ran in alone and voked ArchLich. Obviously I got all the other aggro as well, and the others came in and beat the crap out of it.

I was actually able to cast a couple of cure 3s w/o interruption to help me keep hate while the others cut loose and one person helped heal me.

No sleep. No skillchain. No MB. No 2 hr. No tricks. I just got everything on me and the fight was done before we knew it. Ding 5-2 ^^ going for rank 6 tonight, probably with different members as most of mine hadn't yet hit 60.

good setup?

this is what im thinkin, 2 sams, 2monks, pld, rdm. buffs before fight ofcourse, go in pld vokes first uses invincable when needed, monks do 2hr and raging when they have it, sams do 5 ws each. im thinkin that should about do it. maybe even break the record. oh yeah, rdm can come along for the ride.
Done!

Ran in everyone but one whm sleep, WHM curaga, we are able to do a SA with war/thf, BLM does freeze, not too much dmg, we get a little concened, pld 2hrs to take hate, other whm does holy, not a lot of dmg,(scary), rdm is refreshing everyone, i am erasing war and pld as best i can, blm is getting agro out of no where ><, to say he is freeking out! i am able to heal him with cure III and take some agro. in the end we figure doing the whm skill chian (brain shaker > sphere strike > thunder) we were able to do some nice dmg. time we finished in was 6 minutes. 1 benediction. not too bad lol! good luck all!

For the record, the door in Ranguemont Pass is one way, but you can exit by taking the first left after the door. It leads to another door which lets you exit to a hallway that leads to the entrance. Also, the quest for the map of Ranguemont Pass is in Selbina given by the Galka next to the Mayor's house, but I forget the title at the moment.

My static did this last night and we had no problem clearing it in 4.5 minutes, and like people are beginning to realize, a Monk is not NEEDED to beat this.

We had:

RDM/WHM (Main Healer)
PLD/WAR
BRD/WHM
DRG/WAR
SAM/RNG (me)
BLM/WHM

My biggest concern was our damage output, Samurai and Dragoons aren't the hardest hitters we could have had.

We let the PLD charge up first and draw the hate. He voked the archlich and flashed it to cement the hate, then SAM and DRG rushed in too.

Our issues:
I don't know how the BRD ended up getting hate, but all that running around made the minions not really like him. PLD busted circle blade though and saved his life, and the RDM shot him a heal, so he was fine.

Me the Samurai used my 2 hour and did a Distortion followed by a Fusion. I breifed the BLM ahead of time on this and he landed his burst for the distortion. However, I was shocked when I saw added up my damage later, the fusion burst alone did major damage, (wished I rememberd how much) the whole 2 hour having caused well over 1000. Needless to say, I pulled hate from that, and not even PLD Invincible was able to pull it back off. The DRG probably saved my life when he pulled hate with penta thrust.

We ended the battle with just about everyone in yellow, except the DRG who was orange. We were really worried about nothing, if your party is made of players you trust and you do this before you sell all your solid 50 gear, you'll be FINE, with or without a monk.
This was rather easy, even without a MNK

Just completed this mission earlier today, and it was easier than I expected. Our party was as follows:

PLD/WAR, DRK/WAR, RNG/NIN, RDM/BLM, WHM/SMN, WHM/BLM (me)

That's right, no monk. (not that I have anything against monks; in fact, I love 'em, but we just went with what we had) Nevertheless, we killed it in about 6 minutes, I think.

We pretty much buffed up and went in. (yes, your buffs will NOT be removed on this one). It started a little rough because they all closed in on us while we were still in the first hallway, but our pally did Circle Blade to kill a lot of them. We pulled the Archlich and the minions into the large room and proceeded to beat him down.

The PLD and DRK used their AOE WS as they got them, and the RNG was even using Cyclone. I kept the Archlich and the Skeleton Sorcerers silenced, took care of status ailments, and did the occasional heal, while the other two mages covered more of the healing.

Thanks to Bronzzy, Gavinm, Vaingel, Baneful, and Meraxes for making this one go smoothly. I know everyone says it's easy, but I just wanted to let potential parties know that you CAN do it without a monk. Good luck!

No records set on my run, but gotta brag a bit ^^

PT setup:

RDM/BLM
RDM/BLM
BRD/WHM

The greatest undead crowd control (Horde Lullaby) + the masters of attrition ^^

If was a long fight, though, 12 min 51 sec. If you're in a small PT, keep the big guy silenced, you'll be glad you did!

Oh, and for BRDs that lullaby, more skeles come in a min or so after battle starts, so be ready to get them all on the same sleep timer!

This adventure was one of the worst pts Ive EVER been apart of... First off the Pld never stayed with us and the entire pt was scaterred across the glacier and even in fei' yin.

63 pld/ 31 war
60 rdm/ 30 blm
57 blm/ 28 smn
54 blm/ 27 whm
53 mnk/ 26 thf (i think thf was that lvl)
50 mnk/??? (forgot already)

We finally arrived SOMEHOW in a party. We go in people start running... wait... buffs. >.< siiiiiigh this isnt gonna go well... so pld runs in with mnk and everyone two hours all the Sorcerous Skeletons sleep everyone but me and one decided to throw sleepga on top of the rest of the sleeps. Somehow i resisted. From there I curaga to wakem all. The mnks started to die and the other blm was useless curing because of smn sub all 3 2hrs wasted. So I sleepga and die for the team since all the mobs turn on me. I sat there and said JUST NUKE KILL ARGH... mnk down... pld, other blm, >.< mnk, rdm and finally mnk... about one Bliz 2 to the Lich's Death everyone falls to the last Skeleton and the Arch Lich. >.< well theres my Input maybe other pts can put use this info while thinkin a strategy. Dont just run in they obviously sleep you if you arent correctly equiped to stop Sleep.

This weekend I tried to get this mission done twice. the first time we lost because we had a very unusual pt setup of 2 blms, a rdm, a drk, a drg, and a sam all at or above the cap. We lost with the lich being under a quarter health. So the next day I answered a shout for a pt with four people already. The going setup was a whm, a rdm, a pld, a drk and me a drg. The leader was adament on not even trying the fight without a mnk. I assured him we could do it but he spouted some crap like "I'm not going to risk dying without a mnk" I was really sure that we could've won this fight with or without a mnk.
My words of advice to people trying to put together a pt for this are as follows: YOU CAN DO IT WITHOUT A MNK!! If you can find one that's great but do not disband the party because the setup isn't absolutely perfect.

Well my party on the Titan server just beat this mission, and set the record. So I figure I'll tell the tale...

My party and I started off by getting a Teleport-Vahzl and proceeded to Fei'Yin from there. We got there with only a few aggro from Easy Prey, which went down relatively quickly. But I'll get right to the point. When we got to the Burning Circle, we got all of the buffs then entered the battle field. At the beginning of the long hallway, we charged down, used the final buffs like Berserk then charged. The Ninja provoked the Archmage NM, and the two Monks ran in and used Hundred Fists. This took the Archmage down pretty fast. THF used SA. Not to use about the WHM or BLM, but the health stayed up so I would say the WHM did a great job, and a lot of fireing of Elemental magic. Long story short, the battle went by fast.

The jobs:
MNK50/WAR25 (That's me.)
MNK49/THF24
WHM55/BLM28 (Capped at level 50 though)
NIN53/WAR26 (Capped at level 50, also)
BLM51/RDM25 (Capped, like the others...)
THF51/NIN25 (Guess...)

This seemed to work for us, the lowest someone's health got was down to the yellow...

The old Record was 2:00, our record was 1:49.

This battle is, as has been pointed out, quite easy. However I have an alternative setup to suggest.

My group of friends currently holds the record on Bahamut, and we have for some time now. I forget the exact time, but I think it's less than 2 minutes.

We were: Paladin, Red mage, white mage, Monk, and two Samurai.

The battle went like this:

Go in, buff up. Obviously. Then the Pally ran ahead and voked/flashed/bashed/etc the main skeleton. We ignored the minions entirely because they respawn instantly. The Paladin immediately used Invincible to draw the hate from the minions onto him. At that point the Monk used Hundred Fists and spammed Raging Fists. This got the main guy down FAST. When the main skeleton was at about half HP, me and the other Samurai let loose our two hours, doing self-renkeis for Fusion (Fire/Light) before the main guy could start drawing HP from us, he was dead, and we utterly shattered the record. It was a lot of fun. :)

I hope this helps someone somewhere.~ Good luck to all Bahamut players in beating our record! ;)
