Mission Orders

You must go to Castle Zvahl in Xarcabard. The President himself will brief you in his office.

Walkthrough

The Windurst Mission is called "The Shadow Awaits". You must speak with the Star Sybil after getting the mission from the guard.

You may need to talk to Halver and Prince Trion for a cutscene in order to enter the Shadow Lord fight. Only one party may take part in this mission at a time.

It is recommended you finish the quest "Northward" from Radeivepart (Ru'lude Gardens, Peace Monument) for a map of Castle Zvahl.

After you have the mission intitated, head to Xarcabard, then Castle Zvahl Baileys. Make your way in to Castle Zvahl Keep. Beware, there are multiple types of beastmen on the way in, some which detect by sound and others by sight.

Once in the Keep, you will need to make your way through several gates and Ore doors to the teleporters. You should kill the demons around the teleporters to avoid trains of mobs. Once you have gone through all the teleporters you will enter the Throne Room. There are no mobs in this area so you can use this place to med and buff. Once that is done head across the bridge to the tower and open the door to the Throne Room where the tomb of the Shadow Lord lies.

The first Shadow Lord form will be immune to almost all forms of magic. He later becomes immune to physical damage and so you must finish him off with magic. After you kill him he will of course get upset and come at you again. He will do only AE attacks so make sure to use Curaga spells.

After you are done head back to your home town to collect your 20,000 gil reward and Rank 6.

Okay... I did this often with a HL SMN... and was too weak most of time...

but yesterday was really fun!

PT Setup:

PLD65
MNK60
WAR/NIN 58
DRK 51
RDM/BLM 55
WHM/SMN 72 (me)

We just slayed him without much problem to 1/4 HP, when he did Giga Slash, and brought all Melees in yellow/orange/red HP... I had to Curega III, and wow... I got hate not bad (did some curegas before ><) everyone voked but was sensless...

So I tanked him till he changed to second form... PT was on Full HP, but me was pn 40 MP and 130 HP, so I Benedicitioned as soon as I was able to. Then:
Hundret Fists, Souleater+Bloodweapon, Mighty Strikes, Berserk, Dodge, Focus, Last Resort, Warcry... whatever all they used... I cant remeber... but second form died within 30 seconds... I had enough HP to get off a curega 1... but that was enough to keep everyone alive.

Funniest Shadowlord fight ever.

Did this as a ls event the other night as 4 of us badly wanted rannk 6 XD. We consisted of me <62WHM/31SMN>, a 62BLM/31WHM ^^, 65BST/NIN and 57RDM/BLM. We got help from a level 70BLM (ls buddy) and found a 74NIN to tank for us (thank you^^) although to get that help we /sh in Jueno for like 30mins lol >.<. Well, we headed off, NIN had a rough idea where to go (^^;). Mages took silent oils and prism poweders to because of the magic aggro but we found we never needed to use them once. Getting there went pretty smoothly, no-one pulled aggro except when I hit the wrong macro and accidently /ma Flash an Eye ^^; (/blush) we had to fight when we used the tele-pads too, but that was easy. Also got to fight 2 NM's, Count Bifrons and Viscount Morax. No drops ;_; but, NM's, cool screenys ^_^ We helped a RDM and WAR who were struggling a bit againts Bifrons, and the RDM let us all lot on the horn drop and I won ^_^ (38k on CaitSith^^)
Anyway eventually got to the throne room (still quite a hike even w/o any deaths) went and pretty much spanked the Shadow Lord and sent him to bed with no supper. I did Benediction towards the end, but only because a CuragaII got interrupted and I really didn't want anyone to die after it had gone so smooth. (<3 WHM AF, I didn't even get hate ^_^) Good luck to anyone doing this, and I hope you have as much fun as we did ^_^
dear lord how did we win?
# Jun 30 2005 at 10:01 PM Rating: Decent
Just finished this even though I was convinced we would be utterly decimated.

56 WHM - Me
56 RDM
75 RDM
63 DRK

Used Benediction once right after the mid fight Cut Scene, aside from that, no one died and only had people drop into orange after some of the AoE attacks. Spammed Curagas during the second portion to keep life up, but the first part was very smooth, he didn't switch around alot, mainly stayed immune to magic.

Did it with 4 people.

50 BLM
61 WHM - Me
64 RDM
70 PLD

Basically we struggled with the first form since we lacked dmg. Good thing PLD had Swift Blade..we mostly just supported him. The RDM tried meleeing but its not really that noticible..

Second form got ugly, mages died except for me and the PLD. I found out that no matter where you stand in the circle you will get hit by AoE. HOWEVER if you go onto the altar..you wont get hit..so i sat up there and tried to rest. Turns out the PLD finished it pretty well with Swift Blades. Thank you so much Selophane on Midgardsormr for helping my two buddies out ^^

Not a huge achievement, but battle went a bit slower allowing me to see certain moves and how he reacts.

72RDM/36BLM

Right away he's suseptable to Magic and Physical attacks. Aspir and Drain are your best friends here (as well as Stoneskin).

Eventually he'll use Dark Nova. When he uses it, he'll hold that form and stop attacking physically. He will only cast spells at this point. While he is doing this, he is immune to magic attacks.

When he drops back into a fighting form, magic can be used on him again. He would randomly be completely resistant to physical attacks, but his form didn't look any different, and I don't remember any specific moves that he used.

After depleating all his health, you will have a 2nd battle with a new form. He will only use AoE attacks that are much weaker than his normal attacks. This form has a lot less HP and just seems to be a lot easier (in a solo aspect).

Good luck to everyone attempting this Mission, it's a lot of fun. :)

Min level 55 is a lie... Did this as a 46 DRK and my GF was a 42 WHM. Had a 69 SMN and 75 RDM and a second 42 WHM with us.

Ranger and I did the first melee damage, then summoner astral flowed for the magic part. Then we all faught the end. Both whm had to benedict and I spammed Hi pots but we won. Kinda an easy fight.

Just finished with PLD74/SMN62/THF61/BRD66(me)/SAM60/BLM71

No problems at all. The shadowlord only hit the PLD for 34 damage... /laugh.
You don't have to be 55.
# May 31 2005 at 1:00 AM Rating: Decent
A majority of people know this but there are some ignorant people out there who don't. Allakhazham says minimum level 55. That is simply a recomendation if you're not getting any help from higher level people. I wanted to get rank 6 tonight and people wouldn't let me join because I was level 50. I tried to explain to them you don't need 55 and they said they didn't want totake any chances. A very nice 75RDM/NIN who saw me shouting at the ignorant people that lvl 50 is allowed sent me a tell saying if it was just me who needed it he would take me. He got his 75WHM/SMN friend to tag along as well.

On our way to the throne room (Very quick walk since he kept me sneak/invis the whole way) we saw a dead party...the one who wouldn't take me^^. The Shadow Lord took awhile to kill while in invincible mode, still not long. A very easy fight thanks to the help I had.

So remember, if you do 5-1 with some people and they are doing 5-2 right after, you CAN go. Don't let anyone tell you that you have to be a higher level, unless of course they actually plan on fighting it with a real party and not high level assistance.
I must be jinxed.

My first attempt at putting a group together for this guy we had a pretty good team, several melees, a whm and blm, and a lvl 75 rng offered to help too. Unfortunately the rng was low on time so we had to do it quick. This didn't happen as the blm went and died twice, as well as assorted agro from other people. After his second death the blm HPs and the ranger tells us he has no time left, so the rest of us have to warp out.

Second time I also had high lvl help from 75pld in my LS, unfortunately mages were limited so we were relying on a rdm. We got there quite easily but when we started the fight the rdm couldn't get in because she had missed a step, so it's now just 75pld, 69rng, 61drk and me 57pld. Without any proper nukes for the invincible part, or refresh we got taken out ON THE FIRST FORM. After invincible the pld switched to earth staff for ele damage but it barely scratched him and he wiped us. I'm not sure if I'm going to bother trying this mission again for a very long time.

I just did this today with some people (I don't know any of them, sorry!) and it was easy but hard. Getting there seemed to take forever. We got aggro but it was no problem because we had a 65+ summoner helping and a 60+ dark knight. So after a long time we finally get to the throne room and the fight starts. Not saying any spoilers, so I only have 1 thing to say about the cut scenes in this.... what the hell? He's a (race)!?!?
Anyways. First form went easy enough I guess. I only nuked when the melees weren't dealing any damage. Then I couldn't heal because he kept blasting off dark nova (So cool!). Battle ended with 4 dead, the DRK and I lived. But because I sub red mage (I can't STAND white mage) I couldn't raise them, so half an hour later they were on their feet, and we are rank 6 yay!

I did this one today. The only thing hard about this mission is getting there. It gets annoying haveing to kill everything in our path. The shadow lord wasn't hard at all. The whole reason we faild our first attempt was because we didnt have enough nukeing power. We breezed through him the second try cause we had a 75 blm. Its a shame for the other people that were in the alliance, they got screwed because after we killed him we got warped back to the entrence of the zone.
Remember to use Stoneskin
# May 26 2005 at 8:43 AM Rating: Decent
This fight isn't that hard... I finished him the first time when I was 52 Red Mage in a full party - highest was a 69 Ranger who guided us through the maze of doors. Even the SL's AOE attacks barely dropped me into the yellow... remember to use your Stoneskin, mages, that's what it's for.

Red Mages, as soon as he rises and starts spamming AOE, chug a Yagudo Drink, cast Stoneskin, Phalanx, and Chainspell your highest nuke. Convert, rinse, and repeat for best results. Red Mages are never useless in any fight - least of all boss fights. It's our job to take out the trash when everyone else falters.

w00t! rank 6 ^^ finally! we had little trouble finding our way they, 'cos one of them already done it b4 and really seems to know the way quite well. though we did stop twice for him to scout ahead, but it's worth the wait :D

this the pt we had
whm75/nin73 ~~ Drypease
pld56/war28 ~~ Blonderengel (leader & the one who begin all - from 5-1 to 5-2)
pld69/war34 ~~ Mwbattleangel (without him we r goner ^^ rank 8)
bst65/whm32 ~~ Terin
smn62/whm31 ~~ Firewing
rdm55/blm27 ~~ Amorfede (me)

I must really thanks Mwbattleangel, if not for him, Shadow Lord will be no cake walk XD he was particularly the tank and DD with banish <.< it really hurt sl baaad. all i could do was dispel, refresh (was too awe with facing sl that i forgot my cycle >.<) and my enfeeble sticks ^^ i was excepting a lot of resist but they STICK! yea!

The whm definitely made this a easier experience too, if not the sl 2nd form might sent half the pt in red with his consist AOE attack.

to conclude, my part of the battle wasn't as exciting. i saw one clip from a sam pt of view, now that was exciting, almost non-stop ws. made me felt a bit bad that as a rdm in a exp pt, i'm always very busy, but in boss battle, i really can't do much ^^; but nonetheless it was fun and i would do it again someday ^^
Pushover

WOW is this guy a pushover or WHAT!

We did this with *five* people.

72WHM/BLM
54WHM/BLM
56RDM/BLM
60NIN/WAR
55DRG/WAR

The PLD wasn't able to do this with us, he was denied entrance. We thought we were screwed. The NIN named Robb(Cerberus) was an incredible tank. One of the best NIN's I've seen, highly recommend him.

I know, we had a 72WHM. But still, I'm seeing people with multiple 70+. We didn't even have a BLM. DRG died with a little bit of health left on SHadowlord because of his AoE.

*Lifesaver*
Have your tank pull him to the other side of the arena...*away* from the stairs, and have all mages go up the stairs. His AoE WILL NOT hit!

Just did this with

63DRK
62WHM
59RDM
55BLM
61PLD

and me 50WAR

Let me say..this Fight is easy. Really easy.

His first form has a lot of HP but he hits REALLY REALLY weakly.

His second form has low HP but his AoE hits for 120-180 and he spams it about every 5 seconds or so.

He has a really hard AoE which hit me for 580 but he only used it twice.

Anyway, we knocked him out.

The rdm and blm died because of the AoE (long range)

Taru HP /cry

Anyway, the only thing you really need is a competent pt setup.

It was harder getting there than it was fighting the Shadow Lord.
Teleports?!?!

Ok, so our pt was Mnk Mnk Pld <me> Whm Rdm BLm. We were doing awesome, just fighting our way thruough for fun. We made it REALLY far into the keep, past quite a few tele pads. Well long story short, every1 hops on the same pad. i repaeat we were all no the same Tele Pad, and everything went downhill from here. OUr 2 Monks were telepotred to one pad, and myself and the mages to another. Needless to say we had to fight some demons after tele.... and monks were eaten alive. Myself and the mages BARELY survived the 3 demons we ere tele'd too. I tanked two and rdm solo'd one. We died in the next room as we were tele'd on top of an IT anv VT demon. WHY DID THE TELE SEPERATE US? If anyone knows i would be REALLY interested.

I must say, he is quite a pushover... we died last night only because our whm dc'ed one of our blm's died from an AoE an the other an a complete moron.

We had a level 67 drg with us, an he didnt get any aggro the whole time, so im guessing anything past 65 is good to go without sneak or invis. I'm a level 60DRK an the toughest things in there were DC an there wernt many of them. Lots of EP but they rarly aggroed me.

If your mages are having trouble invis/sneaking anyone, just go through an kill on the way there, they are easy mobs.

Just did this this evening - this is how we navigated the 3rd map (ore doors) & 4th map (quadavs).

Once you arrive at the third map, you will be in a long hallway. This is an excellent place to rebuff and rest. We found it was easier in some instances (if there was a lot of removing inv to open doors for example) just to kill the mobs that were in our way.

Map 3
1.) At the end of the hallway, make an immediate Right(North). Keep the wall on your right and you will come to the first Iron Gate. Open it. There will be 4 Goblins in the room.

2.) Bear to the East and North and you will come to another Iron Gate. Open it. Again 4 gobs.

3.) There are 2 Ore Doors in this room, open the Southernmost one(if facing ore doors, it will be one on the left). There will be one gob in this room.

4.) There is an ore door on the East wall of this room. Open it. There will be one gob in this room.

5.) There is an ore door on the North wall of this room. Open it. There will be one gob in this room.

6.) There is an ore door on the East wall of this room. Open it. There will be one gob in this room.

7.) There is an Iron Gate on the North wall of this room. Open it. There are 2 eye mobs, we found it faster to kill them.

8.) Continue on to map #4

Map 4.
(I don't remember whether doors to next room were ore doors or iron gates, so will just use the word door.

1.) In the first room you enter, there are a number of quadav. There is a door on the east wall. Open it.

2.) In this room, there are a number of quadav. There is a door on the southernmost wall. Open it.

3.) In this room there are a number of quadav. There is a door on the southernmost wall. Open it. There are no more doors for a while, so now is a good time for snk/inv.

4.) Take a Right(west), and take the second right turn(the one after the walkway turns). You should now be going west down a long hallway. Follow this to the end and the next map.

Map 5

This is a very easy snk/inv run. No doors, just everyone head nw/west/sw to the exit.

Our Party was:

57PLD/28WAR
57MNK/28WAR
57WHM/28SMN
57BLM/28WHM
57RDM/28WHM

Nearly lost a couple people once during the special attack spam at the end, but we kept each other alive. It was great. Just remember to bring healing and mp restore items, and you will be fine.

KillingIfrit.com has a half-*** guide to getting to the throne room…hope mines is better.

OK, PT set-up for 5-2 should include RDM, WHM, BLM, TANK, DD, DD 57+

You’ll need at least a stack of Silent oils and Prism Powders.

Head to Xarbacard. Go west from Crystal and you’ll eventually reach Castle Zvahl. Once inside sneak/invis up and run thru the hallway. If you need to recast do it AWAY from walls because the bottom floor will aggro you and come to slaughter you. At crossroads take either left or right road. Go down stairs and continue proceeding west until you reach 2nd map.

At 2nd map , go either left or right until you reach stairs. Climb up them and head to either the TOP LEFT or BOTTM LEFT corner, whichever is closer. Once there go back down the stairs. Hugging the western wall run until you reach a path that cuts under the 2nd floor…looks like a small bridge. If your running from TOP LEFT it’ll be on your left….BOTTOM LEFT, on your right.

Once you run under the “bridge” go either north or south along this new path. If north you’ll be turning right, if south, you’ll turn left. If you turned right, run straight and take your next right, if you turned left, run straight and take your next left. Go straight and you should see stairs, go up them. Depending on which way you took you’ll see a hallway with torches on your right or left. Go through it and you’ll reach Zvahl Keep.

After you zone, head north (Top of map). You now have to bypass a Maze. If you have a high lvl player in your PT (high 60‘s) then s/he can open the various gates and doors. If not, have someone drop invis/open door/reinvis and go through. If you go the correct way you’ll only see Goblins, hence the invis.

Heading north go through 3 gates, all going north. In the 3rd room look to your left, there should be an Ore door. Go through it and the one after that. In the 2nd ore door room take a right and go throught that door. Continue going north (straight) until you reach stairs. There will be 2 eyes waiting for you in the hallway so sneak up. Run through and go through the gate, your now in the Quadav Region.

You have to reach the west exit of the map. I don’t remember the exact way unless I look at map. To find the route through the Quadav maze, zoom in on map and look for rooms that connect with each other. If they lead to the big room then that’s your route. After you exit the maze you’ll take a right and enter the hallway, it leads to the western exit.

Once you have passed through the hallway you’ll run straight and reach a teleporter. A beastman seal passes by every 15 seconds or so. When it shows it will teleport you. When teleported your Invis will vanish, but not your sneak. You’ll have to go through 3 other teleports before you reach the final area. Remember to quickly invis again because demons are near where your teleported to. Also, I don’t believe you can be teleported if being attacked.

Once done with the teleports, either go through the north or south passage. The zone to the Throne Room is at the western exit, so if you catch aggro disregard it and continue running. Open the Door and proceed into the Throne Room.

From here you’ll be on a bridge. Straight ahead is Shadow Lord’s door. You can buff up and discuss strategy…my group did outside door.

There are 2 forms for Shadow Lord

1st Form: 10,000 HP

At beginning of fight SL is immune to magic. Have melees wack away while hlr heals main tank. Nukers may melee if they wish. He doesn’t hit overly hard, and at this point his AOE’s are rare and not threatening. It will take a bit to get his health down tho.
At around 40% HP he will use Invincible. DD’s will do 0 damage. Nukers proceed to Nuke. Our PLD used Invincible to grab hate. Worked fine. After awhile Shadow Lord’s Invincible will go away. DD’s continue to melee, magic will have no affect. He will most likely use Invincible again. Did it 3 times to my party. Just Nuke while DD’s sit back, then when it wears off, Nukers rest while DD’s melee. He’ll die soon after.

2nd Form: 4,000 HP

His 2nd form is much trickier. He will CONSTANTLY spam AOES. His range is ridiculously large. Our RDM found out when he converted far away, and still got caught by AOE. At this point everyone use 2HR. His DEF is crap so he’ll go down quick. Throw everything you have at him and he’ll die fast.

After beating SL head back to your nation and report. You’ll get Rank 6... 20,000gil…and can now start your Zilart Missions.

rate up ^^
