Mission Orders

You must go to Castle Zvahl in Xarcabard. The President himself will brief you in his office.

Walkthrough

The Windurst Mission is called "The Shadow Awaits". You must speak with the Star Sybil after getting the mission from the guard.

You may need to talk to Halver and Prince Trion for a cutscene in order to enter the Shadow Lord fight. Only one party may take part in this mission at a time.

It is recommended you finish the quest "Northward" from Radeivepart (Ru'lude Gardens, Peace Monument) for a map of Castle Zvahl.

After you have the mission intitated, head to Xarcabard, then Castle Zvahl Baileys. Make your way in to Castle Zvahl Keep. Beware, there are multiple types of beastmen on the way in, some which detect by sound and others by sight.

Once in the Keep, you will need to make your way through several gates and Ore doors to the teleporters. You should kill the demons around the teleporters to avoid trains of mobs. Once you have gone through all the teleporters you will enter the Throne Room. There are no mobs in this area so you can use this place to med and buff. Once that is done head across the bridge to the tower and open the door to the Throne Room where the tomb of the Shadow Lord lies.

The first Shadow Lord form will be immune to almost all forms of magic. He later becomes immune to physical damage and so you must finish him off with magic. After you kill him he will of course get upset and come at you again. He will do only AE attacks so make sure to use Curaga spells.

After you are done head back to your home town to collect your 20,000 gil reward and Rank 6.

I had a funny experience with the Shadow Lord last night. Myself (52 sam), 2 rdms (60 and 54), 54 Drg, and 59 rng needed it. our lvl 75 Pld LS leader and a bunch of other came with us to do it (thanks again to all of those who helped). We were originally just going to the Castle for Dark Spark, but we figured we'd try this as well. So climbing the tower took a pretty long time 'cause of all the people that needed to be sneaked and all the aggros and such we got (I aggro'd about 4 Quads at one point, I shoulda died >.>). Anyways we finally get up there and they decide that it'll be the 5 that need it and then our LS leader the pld, so we re-arrange the parties and accept the mission. Just one problem....the rng forgot to get all of the pre-requisites done, so there was only me, the drg, 2 rdms, and the pld. we try to exit the zone, but the door won't open. We figured we'd just wait 'till the timer runs out, but our leader was just like "ah ***** it we'll just try" so we all said give ourselves our last rights and charged in. 1st form wasn't too bad, few AOEs got me scared but we managed to get through alright. It was funny though, near the end of the first form the pld starting kiteing him so that the rdms had time to get their MP back. It was pretty funny watching the shadow lord running around the room chasing him, while everybody else was trying to get away from him. Anyways second form came up and things got ugly. Drg dropped dead, then I did, then one of the rdms. finally the pld and other rdm finish him off. Mission accomplished, yay for rank 6 ^_^.

Easily soloed by 75RDM/37NIN. I've done this as a mercenary a few times. Not a good idead to take a load of ppl if your mercenary this. If you desperately need it and can't find a party, get a 75RDM/37NIN to do it for you and sit back and enjoy the show.

Since a LOT of rank 5s have been grumbling over our server, I thought i'd pass along a helpful hint for people on this quest.

BUY SNEAK OIL AND PRISM POWDER!!

I've run this mission several times for friends and whatnot. This is REQUISITE for EVERY JOB.(Yes, mages too)

The reason? Well, at 50-60 you probably haven't had too much experience with Demons. They detect magic. And oil/powder makes a big difference, since you get to run past mobs that detect both ways (as well as magic).

Without them, you're looking at a 2-3 hour mission, and that's just to get to the BC. Having to dodge aggro and manage 6 sets of sneak, invis or sneak/invis (depending on the area of the castle) is very tough for 6 people.

You get a 20k reward. A stack of each will last you. Think about what's more important, cash or rank 6. If you buy the right supplies, this mission IS completable (with the right guide/PT) in an hour, including BC fight, and no deaths.

Completed this battle over the weekend, and by far the most impressive cut scene thus far in my adventures. I did make one observation though. The above mentions during the first half of the battle (1st form) he is immune to "almost all forms of magic"... I was able to cast Ninjitsu elemental spells causing exceptional damage during that phase of the battle. Just thought I would throw that out there for the NIN's that battle this guy. I have a video of the battle, but it includes the entire spoiler, PM me and I will provide a link.

We took down the Shadowlord tonight. We had 61RDM,57RDM,57PLD,57MNK,62THF,60SAM. The first form was a piece of cake. There is a really dumb rumor out there that you can use sneak oil between the fights to rest and that he wont agro. This is totally bogus. We tried it. It just plain didnt work. Our plan for the second phase was for the sam to do multiple distortion chains, while the red mages chain bursted blizzard II with chainspell. That all went to hell. He agrod and by the time we got our wits about us,our thf was red. Us mages hit our chain spell and started nuking and Im pretty sure the sam started his thing too,but it was pretty hectic and I was concentrating on staying alive. I used my convert, threw on a cure IV and kept nuking, realizing our only chance was to kill it before it killed all of us.Our mnk of course used hundred fists. We did take it down but half our party died. If we had just started in on it,I have no doubt we all would have survived. In any event,we all earned our rank six,and we didnt have a level 75 rdm solo it for us while we all cowered by the entrance.

The way it should have gone was,sam goes right in and does his thing and starts throwing off distortion chains,at the same time, the red mages chain spell and start blizzard II bursting. The mnk hits hundred fists. The thf uses a icharus wing, and closes the sam self skill chain for another distortion. I dont think it would have survived.

This mission was definitely not hard, but it sure wasn't easy either.

It goes like this:

I log in and hear my LS talking about how we're going on a run for 5-1 and they only need one more member. I'm like "Hey, hey, pick me, pick meeeee!" So we go and do 5-1, it was easy, had a couple of monks just waste that Archlich, but that's another story.

As for 5-2, this is where it gets interesting

We had these members:
75SAM/WAR
52PLD/WAR - Myself
58MNK/WAR
58RDM/BLM
58RDM/WHM
5xBRD/WHM

So, we're sitting here for a while, trying to figure out what's going on exactly, I'm running around the entire world trying to get the mission in time. Finally, I get the mission, the other 5 are waiting in Jeuno and I'm sitting here in San d'oria. So, I disband, and grab a Tele-Vahzl, while the others all find a tele ***** in Jeuno, finally, we're all sitting in Xarcabard, ready to go, so we make the run to the Castle, with the "Just aggro everything, it's a short run" Which, surprisingly, works.

So here we are, sitting in the castle, and we start the run through, I'm the only one with Sneak Oil/Prism Powder, but only one person besides me needs to have someone sneak/invis them, so it's not bad. So, we have 4/6 of us make it to the keep fine, but 2 took a wrong turn and got lost, they're okay though, and our SAM goes and rescues them, no biggie. So here we are in the Keep, same deal as before, we all sneak/invis up, but about 3 teleporters before the end I run out of powder, it's okay though, by this time we've just started destroying the demons between the teleporters. So finally we get to the throne room, and we all watch the cutscene.

And now it's time to fight. The SAM and MNK get 2x attack songs, and they run in and attack the Shadowlord. Now this is the intersting part. Since we had no WHM, me and the BRD are the main healers, which gives us about 300MP total to work with. Luckily, we had 2x Ballad and Refresh, so we never ran low on MP. So, the SAM 2hrs the first form, and gets him down to the point where he uses Invincible. So, the RDMs come start to nuke the hell out of him, he goes down pretty fast. Now the second form was cake, the MNK 2hr'd and pretty much wasted him, it was over way too fast to be normal, thank god for Soul Voice and Balladx2 and Refresh. So, that's my story, and now I'm Rank 6 and 20k richer, yay!

Beat this guy tonight as a Duo, 75 Mnk/nin and 70 Blm (me). The fight went pretty well, I only had to cure myself once, and the Mnk never got below half hp.

Finished in 11 minutes and change, thought that was pretty good for just 2 people. ^^

I wonder if a 75 Drk/nin could solo him, got the melee covered, and the nuking part doesn't require all that much damage.

I just did this mission now on Kujata, PT setup was as follows:

Martyr - SAM55/WAR27 (Me)
Cen - ~RDM69/??
Bankotsu - PLD55/WAR27
Hakamaru - BLM62/??
Planeswalker - WHM62/BLM31
Bringer - RNG57/??

When we arrived a Castle Zvahl Baileys, we went in a little bit, but then demons aggrod/linked, so we escaped. I asked my PLD60 friend to guide us to Castle Zvahl Keep. almost at zone, quadavs, demons, and arihmans aggro. My friend died, everyone else made it to Keep. The whm died from poison II. once we were at Castle Zvahl Keep, it was a cakewalk to the Throne Room. Instead of sneaking and invising everyone, we fought our way thru. Once we got to the Throne Room, we buffed up, use foods, and entered the room.

Phase 1: After everyone was done with the cutscene, we commenced attack on the Shadowlord. The pld got down to orange hp a few times, but whm was on the ball for healing. When he used invincible, the blm spammed magic attacks. He ran out of mp before he died, so the rdm spammed magic attacks. He went down soon after.

Phase 2: Man, it was an overkill. Pld, and me 2-houred, rng also did sidewinder. He had 1/2 his hp left after that. After spamming a couple of AoE attacks, the pld and I almost died, then whm did curaga 2. He went down really soon.

All in all, this mission was real easy, and fun.

This was a sweet experience for me. First off I'm a level 51 monk/warrior and my party and I broke the record on Titan, setting it to 5 min 55 sec. Anyway I was asked to help with mission 5-1 because I'm a monk and that's the only thing we are good for LoL. I was a bit busy at the time and said if they wait awhile I would join in. So they went ahead without me but because I was so kind they offered to let me join in on the 5-2 mission. OMG being kind pays off so bad, when invited there were 5 level 75 people in my party!!

So anyway about the fight. As you enter we all know you get a cut-scene and by the time I get done going through it I see the Shadow Lord's health and it was already down to half-way. So then it dies fast and the 2nd fight starts. With 2 spells from the mages it's health is down to 1-5%!!. Anyway we end up setting the record even with half the party going through cut-scene, like I said before.

Moral is be kind to everyone, it really pays off.

The "minimum level" on there is not a requirement, only a recommendation. You can theoretically do this mission at level 1, so long as you have a bunch of higher level people help you through the other parts. :P

I must say, I don't know if the Shadow Lord's difficulty has gone down or what it is, but a competent level 60 PT can take him down very easily. The PT I was in today was remarkably successful. There was never any point where I felt endangered or doomed to definite failure.

What did we do, you ask? It's really quite simple, and it's been mentioned before:

First Form: All melee attack. Mages only buff, debuff, and heal. When Shadow Lord uses {Invincible}, your PLD uses {Invincible}, and the BLM nukes. Then, he's defeated.

Second Form: Melee go wild. Usually, using your 2HR is recommended, but by the time the SAM 2HR'd, I hardly had time to activate my own. Since he only uses AOE attacks, all mages should stay out of range.

That's it. I know it sounds simple, but really, no more strategy is needed. That's how easy it is.

In case of emergencies, I still recommend that all melee bring along {Hi-potion}s, and that everyone with MP brings {Hi-ether}. Personally, I bought six {Hi-potion}s, but only used one, and didn't even really have to do that.

Our makeup was as follows:

60WHM/30BLM
58BLM/29WHM
60RDM/30WHM
60PLD/30WAR
60MNK/30WAR
56SAM/28WAR

It was cake, and I'm now Rank 6. Whoohoo! ^^

Tonight i did 5-1 with a party, and they decided to do 5-2 as well. Our brd didnt want to though, and one of the other ppl left, so it ended up being blm, rdm, thf, pld. we picked up a mnk and a whm, but then the blm and rdm both left. after searching around, we finally got 2 more rdms, so the party was like this:
thf64/nin32
whm54/blm
mnk6?/thf(somewhere b/t 60-63, soont member exactly)
Pld58/war
rdm5?/blm
rdm6?/blm(somewhere b/t 60-63, soont member exactly)

at long last, we reached the throne room. everyone entered, and low and behold the pld cannot get in. I was worried, but we decided what the hell, we came this far. ^^ the first phase was a breeze with agro all over the place b/t me and the mnk. SL couldnt hit me too well and i wasnt payin attention to if it hit the mnk (lol sorry), but soon it was mage only. this phase took forever, and i thought it was over so i said "phase 3" and the mnk 2hrd (big mistake, lots of 0's, my fault ><). then we thouught it was over, and it went into AoE mode. benediction + curagas didnt last long, but neither did he, i TA'd and SA'd and then did a dancing edge soon as i got tp, the rdms nuked or cured or somethin (lol i dont watch mages) and the whm healed til mp was gone. when it fell we were all almost dead. i had 80 hp (7%) and everyone else was in orange or red. we didnt break the record (or come close) but i was pretty happy about doing this with just 5 ppl.

Just did this 2night. We had 8 people who needed it, and we got a friend 2 help.

First pty was
75nin/war
60whm/blm
63blm/whm
55rng/nin
55sam/war (me)

the 4 of us in that party really didnt do much. Ninja did almost everything(except for cures and a little nuking). Second party same deal ninja went back 2help it was

75nin/war
70rdm/blm
55smn/whm
54drg/thf

They had a easy time as well. It was a lot of fun to watch.

Only problem was getting to the dang area. Sneaking and invising 6-7 people suxs. I though i was smart and bought 2 sacks of pp and oils. I ran out though having to wait each time the mages had 2 recast for themselves, making a lot of down time. If u want to make it easier 2 get there make sure everyone buys oils and pp and doesnt use the magic to do it cuz it wear 2 dang fast. Other then that it was easy thanks to the ninja and a lot of fun.

RE: good times
# Dec 15 2004 at 5:39 PM Rating: Decent
You're right Aydell... had a hard time getting there. Even if mages only had to sneak/invis 4 peps. some tricky parts (gate). So really take some oils it really would have cut time donwn to 1/2..
Shadowlord was pretty easy our pty setup:

75 PLD
74 WAR
55 BLM
DRK 54
WHM 54
and me (drg 54)

and in 9:14 he was down^^ new record on asura Server yay
Thx again light, vuu, agroy, lelia, and god you guys owned. It was hell fun
