Summary

You are being tested by the Tenshodo.
Defeat the two monstrous rams in the wild and bring back their horns--a Rampaging Horn and a Lumbering Horn to Paujean.

Walkthrough

The quest can be offered from Paujean at the Tenshodo area in Port Bastok. You must have some Tenshodo fame before it will be offered. To raise Tenshodo fame, do the quest from Talib (same floor) by trading him zinc ores repeatedly.

You must bring Paujean a Rampaging Horn and Lumbering Horn. Rampaging Ram appears in Konschtat Highlands by lottery pop of Tremor Ram. Lumbering Lambert appears on the La Theine Plateau by lottery pop of Battering Ram.

Bring the two horns back to Paujean for your reward.

Soloing Lambert...

Just took out Lumbering Lambert solo... I'm a 35MNK/17WAR, needed the horn for the Purple Belt quest...

Lambert spawned on top of me as I was hunting him, so I Provoke him and hit Berserk, Dodge, Focus, eat a Meat Mithkabob, and activate Hundred Fists. At this point I've been taking a bit of a beating, so I use a Potion and Chakra myself back to near-full HP.

The fight was over when Hundred Fists wore off... I had used two Backhand Blows, and I had around half my HP left (383/737). It didn't use that Great Bleat that I had been dreading... which is good news.

So this thing IS soloable. Just to let you guys know ^_^

2 days ago I hunted him for about 2 hours using a 41 mnk/ 9 rng and he finally spawned. I had competion getting him from others. A few people sent tells about helping them hunt rams. I said hey, I just want Lamberts horns. You can party with me and keep everything else. I was FULL with horns and skins anyway.

the second that all the campers gave up and left he spawns on my map. i must have ran for a good couple of seconds hoping he wouldn't be claimed. got to him, and took him down EASILY. I used Hundred Fists, a meat mitka bob and 1 Raging Fists. He didn't stand a chance. no great bleath and he used petribreath twice and it missed both times.

wasn't bad at all i hope Ramapging Ram goes this smoothly.

I soloed it today as a 32WAR/16MNK. Used mighty strikes and dodge. Ended up with 71hp out 691. If I fought him again I would probably die, so 33 or 34 might be pretty safe.

Well I has helping my GF get a lanolin cube for the quest in jeuno. I had to goto bed so I start logging. The ground starts shaking and I get hit while I was sitting. I was like "Hey I'm pretty lucky, might get lanolinfinally." I turn around and its like 4x bigger than a regular ram. I am like HOLY CRUD tell me it is not bloodtear! I found that it was lumbering lambert and slaughtered it easily as a 46DRG/30THF. Still had a good 50% hp at the end. I also got the horn. How much does the purple belt go for at the AH approx.?

Did this the other day. Rampaging was a bit difficult to kill cus my help was off killing a Thunder Elemental when he spawned. I had to use Perfect Dodge to survive cus when he did arrive, my buddy couldn't voke it off me. Took about 3 hours to spawn.

Lambert was a lot easier to kill, but took 4 hours to spawn.

finally completed it this morning. i looked for Rampaging Ram for about 2 hours or so. I had a whole inventory full of ram horns when I was done so that wasn't a bad trade-off. Just when I was going to give up he spawns on the map. I was super far away from him. I ran for a good while and saw a few low lvls wondering what he was and why he checked "impossible to gauge". I couldn't believe he wasn't claimed. i jump in, fight him. he actually held up better than LL, just a bit tougher. He tried to use Great Bleath and it missed. He still got OWNED.

finally done and i will appreciate my belt much more now than if i had went to the AH and bought it.

Maybe i had a tough lambert, but as a 54 BLM Taru, I have 719 MP. He didn't hit me very hard, but i was left with 149 MP at the end of the battle with non stop Thunder II and Fire II nukes... he has a lot of HP. Only needed one drain to keep my health up.
Clear Things Up

Yes i know the last post was in April, but i got confused along the way and knowing im right i will explain.

Tremmor Rams are a sort of common pops, then come the Rampaging Ram and Laumbering Lamert. Rampaging in the Highlands and Lambert in La Theine.

Steelfleece Baldurf appears extremely rarely in Highlands and Bloodtear Baldurf appear extremely rarely in La Theine.

How do i know? I once got aggroed by Bloodtear, but a PLD in Gallant Armor, meaning 60+ came in and took it off me. And how else? Well i have exp. I had to do this quest.

Rampaging Ram was easier. Lambert was a pain. I am a 41rdm/level 18 blm and I almost died if someone didnt come along and cure. I tried to cure myself but he kept interrupting.

Good Luck.

Tremmor rams are rather uncomon spawns in and of themselves. I was hunting mary for a day and only caught sights of 3 of these all day, all within the east side, a square or two left of the craig. Hunting these shuld be easy as a ranger though. also low level people will usually shout at you if they see em.

Rampaging rams are the rare spawn of these, which means every time a tremmor pops up ( because the former one was killed) there is a chance it will be a rampager.

THEN there is the rare spawn of a rare spawn of a rare mob.... STEELFLEECE BALDERICH..... unless you're tired and your char needs a loooong nap, do not attempt petting. Though petting IS possible from behind, as he is a sight mob ( i even have a funny pic of one of my friends getting smooshed into steel wool's no-no bits...eww...nm teabags) THIS is the nm all the af guys run after, and i would not recomend him to anyone under 65.

Just a lil correction, I'm pretty sure Tremor Rams are a 12 minute spawn (with 2 spawns). I farm them using a ranger sub and there are almost always 2 up, one north-ish and one south-ish.

so to recap-> tremmor ram spawns have teeny chance of being a rampaging -> teeny chance of spawning steelfleece in ones place. -> all are hella scary. All will be my ***** some day.
its attack
# Feb 19 2004 at 4:38 AM Rating: Default
the effect you must be concerned with the most isn't really petritcation since it can be removed by stona. if you do this in a party, as long the mages stay as far back as they can, the effect should not be a major problem.

the biggest concern is "Max HP Down" effect, which is very similar to raise weakness. It does not delevel you. The moment it happens you should 2hr if you got it available (except for whm and nin), because you better take it out quick. the whm can do little about that effect since it is not disease, curse, or weakness, except keep that person healed up.

rams don't like fire, so use all fire-based attacks if possible.
RE: its attack

"Max HP Down" can be countered by the WHM Spell Curagra.

I have no idea what he's thinking of, but it can be countered with the WHM spell "ERASE", which is (usually) pretty expensive, but very necessary over the life of a WHM.

i was just running by chochobo to Gustav and i fount this one ... i dismout as i thinked it is just that easy Tremor ram and engage combat ...

i very fast noticed that this one is not that easy one :) his hitpoints was almost no running down :) my sneak attack hit him but almost no drop from HP :) and i was telling to my linkshell whats the metter and that i dont want to die to my stupidity that i tried him :)

i as THF has quite a lot of evasion but this one was not hitting often but for good dmg (as THF at this lvl i didnt care of my defense so i need primarly STAT+ boost on armor so my armos is almost from lvl 25-30 so quite crapy defense i have but great stat bonuses )- no one of his special attacks hitted me and i ended this fight at 142 HP from about 660 or so 2HOUR still ready for use

but it was really hard - if he hit me only few times more or his speccial attack hitted me ...

Very Tough Fight
# Feb 17 2004 at 10:40 PM Rating: Default
Wow this was a tough fight.
I am a lvl 48Thf/24ninja with all the best armor available. He was missing me left and right, and if he did hit me was for about 10 dmg, piece of cake...
Everything was going fine until Rampaging Ram did "Great Bleat", It's like a warcry thing with an area effect.
This is the one thing you have to look out for. It will reduce your max hp to 1/4 of normal, same as weakened (just got raised after death) or cursed. I didn't have a white mage with me, so I don't know if erase will remove this. This is VERY annoying because him hitting me for about 10 damage suddenly became a lot.
I survived this fight with about 70 hp, Out of a max of 840hp :/
Got the Horn though, yay.

First off, thanks for the maps, I pretty much did ovals around the area outside the crag at Konschtat and not only got Rampaging Ram, but enough Tremor Rams to full my inventory with skins and horns.

As a L40 Monk, these rams provided mild competition. I played it safe and just 2HR'd through each of them. Rampaging Ram has one trick tho, that pesky Petrification Breath. I evaded the first one but the 2nd one got me. Luckily a higher level Mage with Stona was there and they removed it.

Lambert spoiled me, as he literally spawned in front of me as I was going thru La Theine. He even dropped in like he was airlifted just to fight me. Needless to say, I spent the next TWO DAYS in Konschtat looking for the other one.

Ya know what worked surprisingly? I did a /shout explaining I was looking for Rampaging Ram (RR) and then ran around. About 2 hours went by and I was ready to quit when suddenly a JP player shouted he saw it. I ran over and it was all mine. I tipped the guy 5000g, I was just happy to be done with that! I was scared too since that guy was the same level as me and could have taken it, and on the Search menu I kept waiting for him to leave. He ended up saving the day 8)

Good stuff. The other day I was hunsting we'll just say "some NM somewhere" and this Japanese fellow had ridden a chocobo from jeuno there to do the same thing. There's multibple NM in this place, but only 1 spawns at a time. Anywho I talked to him for a bit and told him I was aftera couple specific itmes. He said, ok if the ones that drop those pop, they're mine. Kepp in mind these are 10k+ items that nearly always drop. So of course I'm thinking "better keep and eye on this guy." A bit later my friend that was camping with me that was not strong enough to kill the NM's but was there to watch the other places tells me it's there. As I'm fleeing TO the scene, i get a tell from the Japanese fellow. "He pop hurry someone here."

So in the end I get to my NM and there's my friend and a very nice Japanese player sitting there pointing at it but letting me go after what I need :0 )

(bad news tho no drop lmao)

Just a note... While killing the Tremmor Rams will eventually get Rampagin Ram to Spawn... It will also get Steelwool to spawn. Steelwool is a lvl 65NM. He is bigger than than both the Tremmor and Rampaging, so if you see it, dont try to fight it like the other 13 lvl 40's i saw last night try and do. They all died in 3 hits... Just watch it from a distance... And do a search for lvl 65+ players on your server and tell them that Steelwool is here. They will usually have a group of at least 5 show up within minutes. Steelwool's brother in the plane's name is Bloodtear. lvl 65 as well...

I'm a 46 monk, wanted to do this quest in prep for Brown Belt quest. Subbed Ranger, and roamed the areas circled on maps.

Highlands: After about 1 hour and a half (7 tremor spawns) I got the rampaging ram to spawn.. tremors are about 12m spawn. Just use tracking to find and kill.

Plateau: Took a tad longer, because there was a high-level monk camping there too. Charger Rams spawn a tad faster, and are easier to find because they are in a more contained area. But they are more likly to be stolen by wandering high levels. Took me a couple visits, maybe killed 8 Chargers before I got Lumbering Lambert to pop. Chargers spawn about 12m, or maybe a tad faster.

This quest is good prep for Brown Belt, which involves 3 NMs that are all about lvl 42. I plan to attempt with my whm buddy at lvl 50.

Ok i am reading what everyone says and i need to know if anybody knows in what area exactly does the lumbering lambert roam. I already know the K highlands are, but La Theine is too massive for me to figure out where LL would spawn.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ok I hunted tremor rams for about 6hrs killed about 12 or so but never a rampaging ram spawned (we even had a ranger for a while..)

We were in the area as indicated by the map on this site.. between the crag and the high mountains west from it and South as much as u can go and N as far as u can go but not all the way to dunes entrance..

Can some one say more about the spawn times and location (if needed..)...

I was told Rampaging spawns around Dem in highlands.. I thought Tremor spawns N of Highlands near dune entrance...

So.. can anybody tell me exactly where both spawn? I hate waiting in the wrong spot..

Can a 30THF/16Ninja take both?

Thanks for the help..
RE: SO where exactly?
# Feb 03 2004 at 9:15 AM Rating: Default
Not even. I play a 32THF/16NIN and me and my friend, he was 2 levels under me, just barely beat it and we were both using Copy Image. And I have top notch equip, maxed combat skills for my level, all of that. And we still barely won. So I would wait til around 34ish and get another person to help you kill them. If you're lucky, you won't get a "Great Bleat" or "Petribreath". Both really suck. Grea Bleat lowers your max hp to around 100, and Petribreath will petrify you for about 1 1/2 minutes.

Hope this helps~

Battering Rams are placeholders for the NM rams, so if you want them to spawn, make sure to kill regular rams first.

A friend and I did the quest today. He played a 36DRK/1RNG Taru, I was my usual 36WHM/18BLM Elvaan self. Although we entered the first fight against Rampaging Ram not with full MP, we managed quite easily.

Entered Lumbering Lambert battle with close to full MP, this was a bit harder, though. Lambert hit harder, due to its "Rage" ability. We still had no bigger problems to kick ram ***, though. Got both drops (Rampaging Horn and Lumbering Horn), quest is underway. ^^

Ok, Rampaging Ram was a lucky spawn for me as I was escorting a lvl 20 friend to Bastok. I was a whm42 and we were able to defeat him fairly easy (actually, the lvl 20 didn't do much).

However, I was in fact hunting for Lumbering Lambert, and was by myself. I was a bit cocky and didn't wait to heal up before engaging him. I had about 350 mp left, no protect, no 2hr left. I got him down to 25% but I was about to die, but then I got a Cure IV from a passing paladin, and I was able to hold out until the end. What made it hard was a particularly annoying petrify spell, so if you are guarded against this, it shouldn't be a problem for soloing.

Bottom line, I don't think that the previous post abou the full party of 60+ is accurate, so take it with a grain of salt. One or two 40~ chars (depending on job) should be fine for an easy kill.
