Summary

Lumomo wants you to exterminate an ecological thread, and bring her evidence of the feat.

Walkthrough

Talk to Lumomo in Windurst Waters inside the tavern.

She will tell you go out and find someone named Ahko Mhalijikhari in the Maze of Shakhrami.

When you enter the Maze of Shakhrami, head down until you see Ahko Mhalijikhari. When you speak to her, she will spray you with a chemical that will attract the pests you need to exterminate. The "spray" includes a level restriction of 20.

Head Northeast until you get to (E-7). Next, head East to another tunnel at (H-7). The map will have changed. Head to (I-10) and you should see a ??? spot. It is recommended you kill all the mobs in the room before beginning. Once everyone is ready to begin, have one person examine the ???, keeping in mind that the person to spawn the monsters will be immediately attacked by all of them. Three Wyrmflies will spawn.

Once you have killed all three Wyrmlies, everyone doing the quest must examine the ??? to get a key item: Indigested Meat. If you died during the fight, you have to go back to Ahko Mhalijikhari and get more ointment applied in order to receive the key item from the ???.

Return to Ahko Mhalijikhari and she will remove the ointment and level restriction.

Return to Lumomo to collect your reward.

Worst Alliance Ever
# Jul 31 2004 at 7:32 PM Rating: Decent
I am currently lying in a pile of bodies at the Eco-warrior quest site. We went in with 17 people. Unfortunately we had two very cleverly disguised n00bs in our alliance. They took forver to meet us, then when we were at the site, they hadn't got the "Oil" applied. While they raced back to get it, our fearless leader clicks the ???. Three flys swarm out and half the unprepared alliance is dead immediately. I took out one of the flys with EagleEyeShot but alas I too am now among the deceased. Two people survived. It was a total disaster.
There are bodies everywhere, and now we all wait for somebody's friend to get here and raise us all.

Morals of this story:
1) Look both ways before you cross the street
2) Don't party with impatient people

Special thanks to Linkz, Archmedis & StickyFingers for the high-level escort (Recommended)

==== EDIT ====
We got the raises we needed, 3 whm raising a field of bodies... lol

We went back and got re-oiled, came back, touched the spot and got the key item "... Meat"

omfg, what a mess.

I apologize for the long post but I just did this for the first time tonight and boy was it annoying. ><

Well it started out as an 18 person event...

I was the alliance leader for this attempt, after about 1-2 hours of wading through the Summerfest crowd I got a party (including some from my LS) of 18. "Is everyone signed up?" (yes) "There will be a lvl 20 cap, does everyone have the right equip?" (yes)...

So we all get to the Maze, and this is where the trouble starts... >< Then out of nowhere a few realize they aren't signed up, some drop, some go back to find out they can't sign up for it anyways (great)... So down by a few, we press on, get agroed by 2 Gobs and a Ghoul, not a prob until we get hit by a bomb and all 3 pt's are down half their life. We get to the ???, luckilly we had a guide along too or it could have been worse, then our PLD touches the ??? right away, as in the mages didn't have a chance to heal anyone... People drop left and right, BLM's spamming sleep spells, one Fly dies, some more people fall and delvl, then someone calls for help... (ugh >< no one with out the cap can help) so that Fly dies and most give up because it is now pointless... The 3rd Fly is asleep still at the ??? then disappears. Most get frustrated after the massacre that just occured and leave, leaving us with only 12.

After some debating and most unsure if we could do this decide to try anyways since we have to finish before we could do any other Eco. So back we go to heal and get some fresh ointment. Trek to the entrance, then back, this time, aside from some random melee a single WHM and 2 BLM's seemed to be our star players now. We're all set, I touch the ??? to spawn the Wyrmflies, after random people taking a few hits 2 are put to sleep, one eventually dies, another somehow dies, I'm still baffled to how, probably BLM's nuking while someone strayed from the inteded first fly. So on to the third Fly, I use my 2hr right away since I have it saved still (SAM) as everyone else unleashes all they can, we all got a laugh that we did better with less people, all got the item after a 2 raises and recaps and ran for the hills to forget the whole trip.

So I guess to sum it up, have at least 2 BLM's and a WHM, my thanks to the three of them who probably saved us from another massacre. The BLM's mostly for Sleep which is almost, if not definately, required for this one. One Fly at a time is just like the Dunes all over again with more people, but 3 is near impossible if they all get AOE going at the same time. I'm glad I got through it to now have all 3 Eco's done, although I think I'll be sticking to the other 2 Eco's after this go 'round.

I do this with my LS every month. So many people want to do it we always have 18 people, no need for us to sleep the flies, we just take the hits. No one`s ever died though. Think next week we`ll go after the Bastok Eco-warrior.

As for whoever said not to sleep the flys... next time tell your mages to use elemental seal first. I did this about 2 weeks ago w/ a 12 person alliance. Pld tanked them and mages slept two... One mage didn't seal his sleep and died :( but everyone else made it out alive with nobody dropping below 3/4 hp the entire fight. Went back to get the stuff off us and back on the mage and he got his key item too.

So what I have to say is really easy if you sleep the flys.

Then your blms were bad, I did this a couple days ago and we slept all of them with ease (only 1 sleep each required)
This is the perfect plan, sleep, pick them off one by one (they die really fast). Just watch out for the wendigo/ghoul spawn in the room (they re-spawned and quite a few ppl died, including me, not that I cared)

I do EW every week with some of my LS members and a few random people.

Quote:
DO NOT SLEEP THE FLIES, DO NOT SLEEP THE FLIES.

*imitates buzzer* Wrong-o. The Sleep method DOES work, and it's not a waste to at least try it. My group has used the Sleep method for many many many EWs.

However, we have found a better method: using Shiva and the SMN's 2hr. The flies are weak to Ice, so using the 2hr nearly wipes them out. We have done this for the past two EWs, and both times the flies were dead in barely any time.

Also, when pulling the flies, THF and PLD are good fly-bait, but they should use their 2hr abilities. Don't count on the THF's evasion or the PLD's high defense. Using their 2hrs guarantees a safe return to the group.

Basically, have your puller 2hr, drag the flies to the group, try to sleep two (have two BLMs decide before the battle who will take right/left fly), start beating on one (or all, if sleep didn't stick), and when one has lost some of its HP, have the SMN 2hr with Shiva. Boom. Clean up any remaining flies. Get your indigested meat. Leave.

It is also wise to have higher-leveled help come along to clear the path to the room as well as the room itself.
a tip
# Jul 16 2004 at 1:32 PM Rating: Default
in the wyrmfly fight, have the THF do it cause they have the most evasion, or the PLD do it cause there the tanks. I spawned the flies as a RNG and ended up with 5 hp b4 all the tanks voked, which was in 5 secs. when your fighting it, DO NOT SLEEP THE FLIES, DO NOT SLEEP THE FLIES. it will never work. recommmended to have a ranger in the party, to blow up the flies. i didnt even have to use my 2hr(i used it on some ghouls we aggroed)make sure you kill the flies fast, or wendigos will spawn and eat you for breakfast. or lunch. or dinner. w/e. after you win, have everyone check the ??? and then get the Key Item. then warp out, walk home, do whatever. the end.
Anyone in Carbuncle up for this?

A Story
# Jul 05 2004 at 10:47 PM Rating: Good
I've done this Eco-Warrior twice. The first time, it was a cakewalk, no deaths, only about a minute of fighting, that's all. Here's the second time...

Our alliance only had 17 people, and this was okay, a full alliance is not needed. It was primarily magic users, so that may be why.

When we got to Maze, we couldn't find a sweeper. We had a high level BLM as part of our group, and he elected to sweep for us. We got to the designated area and waited as he went back for his oil, and to come all the way back.

Because there was 17 of us, the "leaders" decided to use the sleep strategy (sleep the middle Wyrmfly, kill the others, then the middle).

We didn't have a thief to touch the ??? (and use Perfect Dodge during casting), so one of the warriors who was new to Eco-Warrior said he would, and he did. He was dead in about 5 seconds, because our designated tanks (not including me) didn't provoke the flies, and the sleep spell FAILED (even with Elemental Seal) or Sleep was in effect for about a second (literal), I don't recall exactly.

Honestly, with 16 people, we had little trouble with the flies, as I never have with any parties, but here's where the real problem arose. You recall me saying we had to wait for our then-sweeper to return-- Well that took a while, and guess what spawned mid fight with the flies? Two ghouls, and a wendigo. Almost totally annihilated, were we. We managed to somehow fight off all 6 things with about 5 survivors all in critical (I lived, and didn't run. :)

Two of the survivors warped out after getting the key item. The three of us that didn't have warp scrolls got to walk back out past the Goblins. One of my two comrades aggroed a Gambler accidentally and trained every aggroing thing in maze getting out, so we did get out (and he lived too).

Basically, I'm trying to point out two things:
1) The sleep strategy SUCKS. Do not waste your time attempting it, you can kill the flies fine.
2) Do NOT let one of your party members sweep for you and come back, lest you want to go through the above experience.

Thanks for reading (if you did :P)

For some reason when i go to talk to the guy that gives you the quest he doesn't tell me to go to the maze. He just tells me the he loves the food from Windurst and the food from other places gives him an upset stomach. When i was a lower lvl he used to say that he wanted to ask me to do something but then he says that I am already busy doing something else. I am from Windurst and I have done the eco-warriar in San d'Oria before I tried to do this one. I can't figure out why he doesn't give me the quest. Can someone help me?

If you have an eco-warrior quest opened from any city, then you can complete and eco-warrior for a different city. Perhaps, you have an uncompleted Ecowarrior quest open in Bastok or Sandoria.

Why can I not access this quest?

We did this last night with a full alliance. I'd heard bad things and didn't want to show up unprepared. The PLD started the battle, the SMN brought out Shiva and unleashed his 2-hour.

/wait 20

Battle over. Everyone else got off maybe one spell or a few whacks. The SMN did the rest. I'd say this could be done by even a single party as long as Shiva is along for the ride.

One key addition - high-level escorts. We did have lots of these to make sure no one died before getting to the battle. It worked out awesomely well.

I really recommend you are higher level than 15. That would even be okay if you had a sub job but straight 15 isn't going to help on this particular quest. The level 20 cap is for a reason... you really should be at that level to do this effectively.

Sleep!
# May 21 2004 at 8:59 PM Rating: Excellent
Well there is one more thing to remember: Sleep. You should (hopefully) have at least two black mages. Their job is to sleep the other two enemies, as you concetrate on one enemy. That way, two are doing nothing, and one is getting beat to hell. So you need to pick one and sleep the other two. Now this is tough, so the blms have to continually sleep ALL of the flies. Someone is bound to wake on, and that would be disatrous. But Sleep...the most important spell, that must be used as well.

Pray that your blms know their stuff. ^^

How to do well in this quest
# May 04 2004 at 2:48 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, many of you have stated that this quest is not worth it. I am here to say that with a little preparation on the Alliance former's part and from a lot of patience from the participants, this can work out well.

First: Make sure you have at least three (3) white mages. That way, each party in the alliance can have protectra, shellra, and curaga. The first two are essential, the third is very helpful.

Second: Scout the area! Which means: get a high lvl member of the Alliance (40+ is good) and send them to find the spot before you get the spray! As you may have noticed, the Maze of Shakrami is twisty and hard to find anything in, even if you have a map.

Third: After you start the mission, avoid fights as much as you can. You will not be able to avoid all fights. You have eighteen lvl 20 people going through an area where mid to high 30s draw aggro. But with 18 people, you can survive the fights before the final battle. In this case, you have to fight wendigos and ghouls so you have to be ready to fight.

Finally: Rest before the fight! Do not touch the ??? until everyone is ready and has used foods and such. If you have a newbie (and you will), make sure that they know from the start to not touch anything.

I say this because as we cleared out the undead and sat to rest I read one person say, "Hey, what does this ??? do?" Much cursing later, the fight was on with the whms having less than 100 MP. I had to burn all of my juice and a hi-ether just to keep one of our tanks from dying.

So remember: at least 3 whms, scout the area and directions, and keep the newbies away from the button.

The experience you get from Dragon Chronicles is totally random. I've done this quest about 6-7 times, and used 4 of those scrolls on my NIN when it was at LV18. I've gotten as much as 9xx and as low as 5xx.

It's a totally random value between 500 and 999.

The directions for the quest need updated, methinks, to be a little more... descriptive. We took a 3 party alliance down to fight the wyrmflies tonight, and it took probably 10 to find it until I found a more descriptive post.

Also, make sure your leader knows how to get BACK; most of our casualties (5-6 people) were on the way out because half the group got lost and gained aggro from the ghouls and gobbies littering our path. Overall the wyrmflies fight was NOT hard at all. At least for our group, it was merely the aggro of getting back.

For those who dare undertake this, good luck :D It's a blast.

I have done the Eco-Warrior quest in San D'Oria and had a similar experience.. Getting down and fighting the quest mob(s) isn't very difficult with a full alliance.

What was a terrible shame was what happened after. Once they're dead, you are not done. You have to get out again. People who die are going to lose experience and effectively have a scroll that's worth that much less for their effort. We had black mages that Warped out, others that used insta-warp scrolls. It was a mess. A number of people died in this last part of our quest and it was despicable how self-interested everyone turned suddenly. I (in my WHM job) stayed and helped a straggling WAR out and though it was close at the end, we both made it out alive. That was something that the bards will be singing about for years to come. -I know, I have become one of them ;)

Anyway, good luck to all! This can be a very rewarding experience if everyone works together and listens to the leader.

Peace
