Summary

Lumomo wants you to exterminate an ecological thread, and bring her evidence of the feat.

Walkthrough

Talk to Lumomo in Windurst Waters inside the tavern.

She will tell you go out and find someone named Ahko Mhalijikhari in the Maze of Shakhrami.

When you enter the Maze of Shakhrami, head down until you see Ahko Mhalijikhari. When you speak to her, she will spray you with a chemical that will attract the pests you need to exterminate. The "spray" includes a level restriction of 20.

Head Northeast until you get to (E-7). Next, head East to another tunnel at (H-7). The map will have changed. Head to (I-10) and you should see a ??? spot. It is recommended you kill all the mobs in the room before beginning. Once everyone is ready to begin, have one person examine the ???, keeping in mind that the person to spawn the monsters will be immediately attacked by all of them. Three Wyrmflies will spawn.

Once you have killed all three Wyrmlies, everyone doing the quest must examine the ??? to get a key item: Indigested Meat. If you died during the fight, you have to go back to Ahko Mhalijikhari and get more ointment applied in order to receive the key item from the ???.

Return to Ahko Mhalijikhari and she will remove the ointment and level restriction.

Return to Lumomo to collect your reward.

ok so i was helping someone get 2-1 windurst mission
she accidently talked to the person in maze of shikrami and she got the lotion
I couldnt cure her or anything of the sort (couldnt even cast earthern ward on her) we didnt know what that quest was for so we tryed to get 2-1 we failed she left tired and i was bored and started to read this to find out it was for the eco-warrior quest
so im wondering.. can 1 person have the quest up, have the other not get the lotion, and still kill the flys?
hate it

I so hate this quest.

If you die during it you got to get a raise and get your lvl cap again, but no one is willing to help you get back to the ???

My advise is to take some oil and powerder with you and then you can get back to the ??? much easyer.

I opened up this quest while speaking around in the Timbre Timbers Restaurant in Windurst Waters one day. I didn't really know what it was until I later looked it up here. I thought that it was probably just one of those really exclusive quests that only people who have tons of friends who would be willing to collaborate for this kind of thing would be able to do. So I kind of forgot about it. At the time I was training BST and I continued to do so.

A couple of hours ago I came back into Windurst, fresh off of training BST in Tahrongi Canyon, when I noticed someone shouting for anyone interested in the Eco Warrior quest. I decided to take up BLM again and join them. They had all gathered in front of the entrance to the Maze of Shakhrami and so I geared up and headed out. I took with me a stash of Melon Pies +1 (a gift from a friend) and all of my sub-20 gear.

We got there and waited a long time. A looooong time. People kept joining and I think one person left at some point. Eventually we were able to get everyone ready and we set out for the ??? spot. We passed by it on accident and a bunch of us (myself included... yes I fell victim to peer pressure) walked off a ledge in a nearby corridor. Only later did we learn that by walking off the ledge, we had to follow where it took us to Buburimu Peninsula, then walk all the way back through Tahrongi Canyon and into the Maze of Shakhrami. Fun.

So we finally all gather up again, and we finally get to the ??? spot without anyone dying or jumping off of ledges. Up until this point the strategy of me and the other BLMs in the alliance was to use Elemental Seal and then Sleep on the Wyrmflies, and then take them out one at a time. A few seconds before we spawned them, one of our alliance members informed us that Sleep didn't work on NMs. So we had to ***** that strategy and just go for nukes.

The Wyrmflies get spawned. I use Elemental Seal and Blizzard -- uh oh! Instant death. I get to watch as my teammates kill the flies, and then I have to get raised by the clearer (who'd helped kill all the mobs on the way to the ??? spot). I then realized that I had to go all the way back to the entrance to get the level cap again, and then come back to get the indigested meat. That was a nice feeling. >_<

I followed the clearer back to the entrance, and died halfway there. Then I had to get raised again. When I finally got back to the entrance, I got the level cap. At this time the clearer had to go so I was stuck with one of the other BLMs who had died. And we had no way of getting through the Maze to the ??? spot where we would get the indigested meat.

We made it about 1/3 of the way when I aggroed a Goblin Tinkerer. Two level 20 BLM's were able to take it out, a feat that I'm rather proud of. (I guess it's not that amazing... In actuality, it's rather unspectacular, but I'm so used to Goblin Tinkerers being tough enemies from training in Valkurm. Anyways.) In the next room we split up. I went on an all-out dash to the ??? spot, ignoring all goblins and undead in my path as I did so. Amazingly all I aggroed was a Goblin Gambler.

I got to the ??? spot -- and, lo and behold, a Ghoul and a Wendigo had spawned just around it. Luckily some leftovers from the alliance (it had begun dissolving after everyone who survived the Wyrmfly battle got the meat) helped distract and kill off the undead. I grabbed the meat and cast Warp on myself. Amusingly the Ghoul (or maybe Wendigo, I don't really remember) cast Bind on me while I was Warping, but too late in the casting to interrupt me. The result?

I ended up standing in front of the Mog House in Windurst, bound for a couple of seconds. XD It was kind of funny, considering it is pretty much impossible to be bound in a city.

Anyways, I went back to the V.E.R.M.I.N. guy in the Timbre Timbers Restaurant and he gave me the page from the Dragon Chronicles, and 5000 gil. Hooray! The Dragon Chronicles, I decided, would be used on my BLM. It gave me 511 exp. Which is all right... I guess. I really wished it had been more than 1000 but I don't really know everything about the exp points given by the Dragon Chronicles.

That was quite an adventure, to say the least. I'm happy I completed it. ^_^ Emerald Exterminator is such an awesome title to have. (Much better than Crawler Culler, in any case. XD) Thanks to everyone who helped me out -- you know who you are.

I was playing around in the maze as a lev 20 smn (no avatars other than carby) and saw a bunch of level 20s hanging out. I asked what was up and they said eco quest. I joined in 10 people total in alliance and 2 guides nothing special. I thought we would die.
Battle went as is:
Left fly was slept by blm and the 2 parties took out the other 2 flies pld tank on both. Then moved on to the one that had woken up. A total of 2 people died no Diamond dust no 2 hours used. Relatively easy fight.

I did this for the first time last night, and so my only instructions were to not touch the ???

I could handle that, and as WHM/BLM I couldn't really mess up curing anyone. So, quick notes on the fight for fun. 17 total, about 4 or 5 escorts to make it easy and clear out any aggros. The fight itself took 15 seconds, tops.

Then I was instructed to log out and back in to remove the lvl cap, this worked nicely, except I must have missed the message saying to touch the ??? after the fight, and before removing the lvl cap.

So I'm almost back to Windurst and I ask the guy who invited me what we were supposed to get... Then the fun begins.

I go back to Windurst to change to BLM for warp, go back with him as a lvl 45 (or 54 I;m not sure) SAM/WAR to see if I can still get the item. I'm thinking I'm going to pop the flies again and die, which would be good fun anyways, and worth trying. So first we try it without the lvl cap activated, and nothing happens. I go get lvl capped, and low and behold, the key item meat is there for me.

Just though I'd let people know in case they didn't know to much about this. I think there may be a time limit, so to give you a time frame, I was invited, and two hours later( real time ), I was back and got the meat.

Gave my escourt 5K gil for the patience with my mistake.

Btw, my first post, sorry if it is a little odd, just thought people who didn't know much about this quest ought to learn from my mistake, and if not, know they can go grab it still if they hurry.

If this was helpful or informative, Rate up I suppose. ^.^

Also one question, the Carbunkle Ruby was in our Treasure pool after the fight, and I know there are leeches near there that drop it, but I didn't see anyone engage it. It just seemed to come from the Flies fight, I know I'm probably wrong, and its just a leech, but I'd like to hear a definate yes or no.

Just completed this last night. We had an alliance of sixteen, and two SMNs with maxed out TP and Shiva. The whole battle took ten seconds, and nobody died.

http://www.catwho.net/images/ffxi/eco-warrior/1-8-05_1.jpg

When you have sixteen people swarming the maze, the mobs that would normally take down a party of six will be absolutely no problem. We did have a higher level RDM standing by in case something went wrong . . . but nothing really did.

You can do this quest with 4 members. (and a higher lvl "guide" to clear the way for you, not in pt) 3SMN with Shiva and 1 of some kind of WAR class (for HP) to touch the ???. Have Shiva out and ready and use Astral Flow righ before the other member touches the ???. As soon as the flys spaun the SMNs need to target asap any fly, doesnt matter which cause when they use Shiva's Diamond Dust its AOE and wont really mater. If for some odd reason it doesnt kill all the flys, which it should, Astral Flow has made the perpetuation cost of Shiva 0 mp and the three Shivas have about 2.5 min the three Shivas can melee the the remainning flys dead, if you are really worried about it, bring a High Ether and you can Diamond Dust again. All the WAR has to do is to touch the ??? then sit and watch the show.

Might try tonight I usaully Shout!!! in Woods..
Once i have 18 People.. i Make for the Maze...

If you do this Quest With Me.. i,ll Make sure Every one gets the Meat I will Leave No One Behind...

My Stratagie is as Follows....
WHMs or Rdms in each Alliance As Heallers..
PLD THF Or WAR will touch.. the ???

i usaully Have an Escort... [ Highly Recomended]
I tell every one to Stay Behind the Escort till we Arrive...to NM Flys Spawn Location

Now... BLMS chose who is Sleeping LEft & Right Fly.. Decide this Before YOU get there...

3Pt Alliance Kills & attacks the One in the Middle.. & Repeat the Possees till All is Gone..

Usaully.. 3-4 People Die...
[ Cause Some One Just Doesn,t Listen ]

Best i done is 2 People died...
But no matter how Many Died.. I make sure Every one Gets The Meat.....

*Note If you die Wait for Raise & don,t Zone Go back to NPC Mithra & get Ointment Return to the ??? Touch it & get Meat Go back NPC Mithra & Remove the Lv cap20

Courtasy: If you were one of the People who Live & was able to Get the Key Item <Meat> Be kind enough to Stay & help Escort those who Died for.. you so they Can get theirs...

I did this quest yesterday. Yindragon was shouting in Windurst Woods, and I had the quest started so I joined up. It took about 45 minutes to get 18 people, but all seemed pretty good. I even helped spam in Windurst Port.

So we head off on foot and near the Crag of Mea someone gets aggro but doesn't die. We all end up in the maze and sit next to the NPC while instructions and verification happens. Find out that one person didn't start the quest, so we have to wait another 30 minutes.

Once the instructions are given out everyone gets the ointment and we head off with an escort (there might have been two I'm not sure). Yindragon tells everyone to stay behind him and about 6 people go ahead of him anyways and get aggro once or twice. Once we get to the ??? we have the plan laid out (attack the middle, sleep the others) and the person ("Godzirra") we chose clicks the ???.

Now all hell breaks loose, we start attacking the middle fly when suddenly I see a couple of HP bars hit 0. The first fly goes down quick, but the other two are moving and we're attacking both instead of one. A couple more HP bars hit 0 after the second one dies, then I ready Astral Flow but by the time I am about to get Searing Light off the battle is over.

Afterword the escort raises like crazy and everyone who lived gets the meat, but people are still standing in the area when ghouls and wendigos spawn. One more death and people finally retreat into the hallway. After we get back to the start Yindragon takes anyone who couldn't get the meat back and they all get it except one who d/ced. Finally everyone gets the meat and we all come back to the start again.

Most people get warp2ed back (including me) and then we talk to Lumomo and get the good ****. I change jobs back to my 34 BLM who needs a buffer and use the xp scroll for an instant 794 boost. So I'd just like to thank Yindragon and everyone else for helping me finish this fun quest. :)

tried doing this last night. been trying to finnish for a couple of months, but no one was ever putting together for it while i was in windy. so we get a full alliance together and it only takes about an hour to do so, we get to the maze, only to discover that several ppl were convinced that the lvlcap was 30, instead of 20, when buying there gear. we went over this with everyone in town before we left..... anger. then we found out that a few ppl had quest from sandy and bastock and thought it would work here had to replace them, not fun. we covered that before we left windy as well. so we finnally get it together, get the oint ment and take off we make it to the ??? no problem(actually kindof fun whailing on aggro with 18 ppl) only to find out that 2 ppl forgot to get ointment lots of yelling now. so a whm and a blm whove done this a few times lead the two back to get ointment and the two who already screwed it up dont say anything when they catch aggro 2 deaths. more yelling and practical profanity. finaly get everyone at spot with ointment and someone runs past dragging two wendigos and a few ghouls they die and the skellys attack us chaos a few deaths. forever later and were ready again. get together and fight the worms blm dc's and whm uses wrong macro and "bennediction" equal lotsa dead ppl bout half an hour later were ready again, with a few replaced ppl we try again and this time a whm apparently falls asleep at the keyboard and well lotsa deaths 3 more ppl to replace we heel up and try again this time, our drk,who forgot lvl20 armore, gets curious, runs ahead, touches the ??? and kills us all. its over now, everyone is going to bed. the lvl 60 whm was kind enough to plvl me and the one other person still up back to where we were before the deaths and then we all call it a night. point of story people are complete morons and 1 person ******** up can be fatal to the other 17 people with him and following directions is way better of a survival plan then safety in numbers i hate stupid people.

Theory for single-PT...

At this time, this plan is just a theory, but I do intend to try it out within the near future.

I propose that this quest can be done with as litte as 4 people. That said, each person should be able to work together much better than most thrown-together alliances.

The party would consist of the following:
1 paladin
2 summoners with Shiva
1 high level player (preferrably a blm or whm) capable of easily killing lvl 30-40 mobs

Gameplan:
1. - paladin and summoners get oiled up
2. - high level guide goes on a killing rampage, taking out all aggro for PT on way to ???
3. - as soon as the undead in the wyrmfly room are killed, the summoners both cast Shiva and activate Astral Flow (4 minute effect)
4. - paladin clicks the ??? and immediately uses Invincible
5. - both summoners use Diamond Dust while the paladin keeps hate to himself
6. - 3 dead wyrmflies in record time
7. - deleveled members click ???
8. - high level guide escorts you back out (preferrably with Escape or Teleport: Mea)

If everyone does their part and times everything right, I'm fairly sure it could work. During the wyrmflies fight, the high lvl guide makes sure no respawned mobs interfere.

I'll hopefully be able to respond with how it actually plays out as soon as I organize a few friends to do this, any other PTs who try this, feel free to post with experience.

After quite a very long time of utterly forgetting about this quest and progressing through the game like many people do, I wound up coming back to the same nagging urge to try one of my brainchild ideas. I wound up asking my best friend, with whom our mages are all staticed, and another mutual friend who'd mentioned long ago she'd be our paladin tank for my crazy 3-person scheme. After finishing the Promyvion Dem Empty Notorious Monster fight that netted the party a slick 3,000 exp, I asked my little taru summoner buddy if he'd want to try it out once his 2 hour was available to be recast. He agreed, as did our mutual friend, so around an hour and a half later we left for Shakrami with 2 taru smn/blm, a hume pld/war, another lvl 70 sam/war friend who agreed to be our path clearer, and a taru thf/nin who promised not to lift a finger in the fight, but was there to accompany our paladin.

We rode chocobos to the Maze of Shakrami and zoned inside, and went through the following:
1. - paladin, thief, and both summoners got oiled up and dropped to the lvl 20 cap
2. - the samurai who'd never been in Shakrami just went through and tore every mob a new one in her path
3. - the wyrmfly room was cleared out by the samurai
4. - both summoners ate a pie and casted Shiva
5. - both summoners casted Astral Flow
6. - the paladin clicked on the ???
7. - the paladin used Invincible
8. - both summoners used Diamond Dust with Shiva, myself targeting the middle fly, not sure which fly he targeted
9. - Damage to the wyrmflies:
Me: 325, 357, 325
Him: 325, 325, 357
10. - All 3 wyrmflies die immediately

The entire battle lasted less than four seconds, and seemed almost a joke. The thief did absolutely nothing all fight but /sit and watch, along with the samurai, who actually asked if she went through all the killing beforehand for such an anti-climactic fight.

In conclusion, I believe that the fight can be won with only 2 summoners, and possibly even without any outside help, assuming that the same damage is inflicted to the undead in the room, and sneak oils are brought for the undead in the room prior to the Diamond Dust being used.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to try out my even more death-defying challenge within a week or so..
Went Great!

Did this last night in full group of 18 people - went wonderfully. We had 2 higher levels clear for us on the way there and the fight itself only took approx. 1 min. I think I only cast 4 Cure's the entire time and then it was over, no deaths. Much easier than the Bastok one, IMHO. If you organize this ahead of time with people that have done them before (this was my 2nd), you're guaranteed success.

well here's the deal. long time ago (couple months actually) i got this quest and the group decided they could do it with 6. needless to say we all died... so i've had this quest ever since.
wel today me and my rdm friend were in windy and we saw someone shouting, trying to set up an aliance for this. so we take the bait so i can get this quest over with, so i can go back to doing the other 2. well we get into a pt together with the aliance leader, then i voluntered to switch pts since the al leader was a porting whm as well, i just switched so i could port the other pt and be their whm. the 2nd pt was already there, so we didn't have to worry about porting them... wel1 we get there, the al leader has an escort, but he's only lvl 30 mele... we die before we can ecven find the ???

so, we lose close to a third of our people to impatience. most of the aliance hped or warped out, i stayed to raise a few that had strayed from the main pile of corpses, including my friend... well, i get them raised, and there were 2 open slots in my pt, so i asked for ldr (my pt ldr was in windy) so i could invite then into my pt and port them out, (i didn't feel like walking back through, with a weakened lvl 18 person) my rdm friend stayed and walked out with sneak and invis. i tried to hand ldr back to my pt ldr but he tells me to keep it. well, i warp back to town for suplies, and to port my guys who were in town, and while i'm there the al leader hands ldr over to my friend so he can invite someone in the maze, since my pt was full, and the other pt didn't have anyone in the region. and the funy thing was the guy never asked for ldr back...he even switched pts, so he could port the other pt. so me and my bud went from just answering an ad, to me having my own pt, and him being the al leader.

so one of the new guys knows the way... wel, he refused to stop whenever someone got aggroed, some people died, and had to go back for ointmen, but this time we had a higher lvl blm (or a realy high lvl whm) to help us clear out the undead and such in the room, so while we are waiting near the ??? and me and the other whms are geting food distributed to one another, one of our whms gets curious and hits the ??? (needles to say on the next atempt we yelled "do not touch the ??? !!!" quite abit) by the time we other mages even know what's going on, half the group that was in the room was on the floor, and we joined them shourtly afterwards.

well, this time the al stays together, but me and my friend decided to use our positions in the aliance to try and take over, and straighten thingas out. we and several other of our key people kept preaching "stick together. do NOT run off." and my bud yelled at a few people "STOP if you get agrroed!!!" and "if someone gets agrored STOP and HELP them!" course i yelled that a few times myself. so, with alot of yelling, the help of that blm, and a lil glue to keep people from running off, we got the whole group to the room without a single death. the blm cleared the room, and we comence to get wailed on by the flies, the blms in the 2 other pts slept the ones on the side, and the mele wailed on the one in the center, me and the other whms were just trying to keep everyone alive, one person died, and aoe made my pt's hp run a lil low, so i start casting curaga to try and keep my pt alive just a lil longer, and by the time i finished casting, the last fly was dead. so we all got the meat, and then the undead spawned... i yelled, "get out of there" but nobody listened, they stayed in the room and killed one... then another came, and another, and quite a few people died...i don't know if the one guy, ever got his meat or not, but i finaly got my quest over with... and me and my friend learned that we actually we capable of leading a group... i got my dragon chronicals, and it got me back the xp i had lost from all the deaths... most others died alot more than i did though... so i was kinda lucky that i only died twice. oh well... i made 5k in about 5 hours... not too awful bad....

moral of the story:if you do this, make sure someone in each pt either knows escape or tele mea, and raise is very handy as well as reraise...
Just did it myself

I just completed this quest. Oof! Getting an alliance together is tough work, especially keeping everyone patient.
Well, we got down there, had to make a last minute subtitute and wait for the new guy to get here. We get ourselves oiled up and head down, only to realize none of us knew exactly where the room was, not even our two high level escorts. >< So then, we finally find the room, escorts kill the undeads. We got attacked a few times on the way so we needed to recover. And...SOMEONE JUMPS THE FREAKING GUN AND HITS THE ???!!! We managed to kill them with only two casualties. (I'm still amazed I survived despite being a paladin and having only slightly over half my HP and a third of my MP. Gogo invincible!) Well, one of our high level escorts was a red mage who revived the dead. They weren't happy to learn they couldn't get the meat for the quest having been killed. So we all agreed to do the fight again. So we waited while they headed back to get re-oiled. Now here's where it got strange. First guy who got killed inspects the ???, and he gets the meat just like that! The next guy does it and it does bring the wyrmflies back. We kill them again, this time without a hitch. Everyone finally gets the meat and we're all happy. ^_^

So a lesson to all. Do NOT sign up for this quest if you are impatient or incapable of taking orders. You're just gonna get yourself blisted.

As a resident of Sandoria, I recieved this quest from the Windhurst NPC at about level 5 fame.

I had also previously completed the Sandoria Eco-Warrior quest.
Straight shot question about this quest.

My friend tells me that if you do this quest, only one person in the whole alliance gets the scroll that gives exp.

True or false?

Even if they don't live, they can get the item. Just raise them, help them get the ointment back on, then return to the ???. A lot of runing back and forth, and many members will want to leave in the process. Make sure that the fallen members remain in their original locations in the alliance though, or they definitely won't get credit. If they drop and rejoin, the monster will respawn upon clicking the ???.
