Wow....I'm amazed at how many people don't read before they post. YES this quest is repeatable, I have the guide and it says so. I'm not sure if SE nerfed it yet. Also about mining, there is no skill involved!!! It's just luck, race has nothing to do with mining, you will not get better items just because you're a galka!!! You can't mine dark steel ore from palborough mines, only places that you can obtain dark steel ores are from zeruhn mines, and gusgen which has already been provided from the information posted on allakazham. I have mined 5 platinum ores in less than 2 hours, an have mined nothing but iron ores on certain game days. Buying the ore or Mining the ore yourself will cause you to lose 4k or more depending on the server, just that buying the ore will save you time. As for mining in Gusgen, it would be easy for those lvl 50+ since monsters don't aggro. You can mine the first 2 points at lvl 30 in Gusgen but a little dangerous.
Price of Dark Steel Ore
# Apr 28 2004 at 11:26 AM Rating: Default
Is the reward still 8K for turning in the darksteel ore for this quest? On my server the price of darksteel ore at the AH is about 5.5K or even less.

ALso I have seen on another website that the reward for this quest is 5K?

Can anyone verify the amount given to turn in the DS ore and also what is the going rate at the AH to buy a rock?

Thanks!

Quests like this I think are meant to preserve the prices of some itmes.
If the price of darksteel ever fell below the reward, people would just offload the excess here.
Where?

It isn't hard to find darksteel... the first time I went mining I had 2 dozen pickaxes, and I found 4 darksteel, 2 gold, bunch of iron and a purple rock. I was only wearing field gloves as well. I mined for it in Gusgen.

People stop trying to make this harder than it is. Go to the mines, hit some rocks, and be patient. Jeez. I get darksteel ore about once every 2 trips, although I wear field gloves and boots, which may affect my rate
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 05 2004 at 9:09 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) none of you have answered crap.... where are the good mining spots why dont you post that insteaded of ******** about people not reading the other posts.

Nuggets,
You can mine darksteel in Zeruhn or Palborough mines but it is very rare no matter what. I went through about 300-400 pickaxes mining before I got darksteel. It is just extremely rare. Field Gear such as the Field Tunica, Field Gloves etc. reduce the amount that your pickaxe breaks but I don't believe they increase your chances for getting rare ore. I've heard some say that Worker Gear (Worker's Tunica, Worker's Gloves, etc.) raise your chances of succesful mining, but I'm not sure if that's true. Haven't been able to confirm it myself. Hope this helps.

(P.S. Read other posts peoples! AaaaAAAaauuarrrghgh! :P )

according tothe passed quotes/opinions it looks like everyone has discovered that mining has nothing to do with race/job/tradeskill lvl at all.... just read the passed posts instead of posting new one automatically... and they ahve already told you where you can get the ore... so read b4 posting.. second... it seems that no one knows if this qquest is repeatable because there is no reason why you would want to..... there...

Darksteel ore chunks are 6,000+ on Titan, so that stinks. I guess the only way is to mine it yourself or take a 4k loss.

Well, I don't mean to be mean, but the purpose of quests isn't to see how good you are at buying things from the AH. If you only want to do the quest for fame, then there are many repeatable quests that can be done for much less money. Iunno, it just bugs me when people complain that the only way to not take a loss for a quest is to actually do it.
Mining
# Jan 21 2004 at 3:20 AM Rating: Default
There is no skill involved in mining. The last patch made it so that the more often you strike a particular point the more likely it is that your pickaxe will break. Also the last patch added 3 items which "improve mining results." Aside from these items there is no way to get more saleable ore
from any particular mining point. Blacksmithing, Goldsmithing, being a Galka, and time and effort spent mining have NO bearing on the result of striking a point with a pickaxe.

Hey guy who laughed at people who said you could break down a quadav backplate. Are you that pathetic that you have to make fun of people when they make a mistake. Or do you get kicks out of picking on people might not be fully informed. Personally i believe your comment, calling people " idiots " about being able to break down a quadave backplate incorrect, is infantile and unnecessary. Especially since you did not have any helpfull information to follow, backing up your statement about the backplate, or provide something to helpfully correct them. If your comments are not helpfull, don't post, this is a public and "FREE" website. Where everyone helps each other out, so we can all prosper. Dude before you post, read everyone else's posts... Black steel = Dark Steel. and you have to do quite a few quests to raise your fame in Bastok before you can get this quest. Anywhere between 20 - 30 not exactly sure. I went through everyones posts on this topic, and i saw many people repeating questions that have already been asked. Please read everything before flooding the posts with useless dribble.

#Anonymous, Posted: Jan 15 2004 at 12:39 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Totally aggree with you. If you are windurstian, San d'Orian or Bastokian, Quests are not affected at all. Also, mining, harvesting, etc.. are not offected by the guild skills, only the mining equipment (ie: tunic, gloves, pants, boots) will help in anyway. And there is a much easier way to get the Ore on your own, but I dare not reveal it due to the fact that you probably only know it if you can understand Japanese and go to their websites, and I don't want to give away a good secret.

i think theyre is some sort of hidden mining skill kinda like fishing skill also i think that galka naturally have better luck mining as well since theyre the ones working in the mines i have a galka and i get at least 3 platinums everytime i go to mine also ive never had to use more than 3 stacks or pickaxes

Why would you want to repeat this one? There are easier repeatables for raising fame. If it's money you need, you'd make more money from selling the ores at AH.

you guys are killing me.

1) No tradecraft has anything to do with mining.
A) Mining is random, Don't tell me otherwise, or bring proof to show me i'm wrong.

2) Darksteel ore is just that, darksteel ore.

You can find Darksteel ore in either zeruhn or gusgen mines, from mining points. Break out your pickaxes and get to work, because in zeruhn it might take awhile. Gusgen is a little easier to find darksteel in.

Also, the guy does not want quadav backplates.

Agreement with statement 1. I have a Smithing 19 level, and my pickaxes break just as often as when I was no Smith at all.

The reason why I think someone mentioned a Quadav Backplate is because items like these (also Goblin Mail, Goblin Helm, Yagudo Necklace, etc.) can be broken down into other items usually using a Lightning Crystal. However, I've only ever seen them give Ingots when it comes to metals, so I doubt you'd be successful in this. Oh, breaking down the materials using requires a high Smith level (I can barely do it at my level with advanced image support)
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 30 2003 at 3:25 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ingots can be broken down as well. Well, lower level ingots can, I can only assume that since bronze and copper can be broken down, that darksteel can as well.

I did my mining in Zeruhn to get the darksteel ore and it took about 6-8 stacks of pickaxes to get 3. It wasn't a loss though, I made about 100k in zinc and iron ore, Bat wings (about 15 stacks), Zeruhn soot (about 12 stacks) and crystals in the time I was there (about 3 weeks of farming and leveling 4 basic classes to level 8-10.

I've spent 10K on pickaxes now, still no darksteels, and only about 20iron ores and tons of zincs. I threw away all tins, coppers away to save inventory spaces. Those iron ores evens out pickaxes and only made about 9k with zincs. Anyone knows if Mining armors helps with darksteel lucks??
wrong...
# Dec 01 2003 at 4:21 PM Rating: Default
Blacksmith does not have 0 to do with mining - your pick breaks less with a higher mining score..
(zero skill means pick breaks almost every time you mine a spot)

Well, I've never actually seen anything written down to concur with the connection between Smithing and Mining, but I can tell you from experience that I have a low Smithing skill and my pickaxes break like he said almost every other swing. Plus I haven't managed to get anything better then Iron Ore off of any attempts, in Palborough or in Zeruhn. Haven't gone up into Gusgen yet though. Maybe when I get my Smithing skill up a bit more ;).
RE: wrong...
# Dec 05 2003 at 1:28 PM Rating: Default
hm....you may be going to iron ore mining spots. my smithing skill was 0 and i was able to mine mythril ore from palborough. the only tradeskill i had above 0 at the time was clothcraft, which im sure has nothing to do with mining.
