Summary

Create your own crystal ball to have your fortune told.

Walkthrough

Start by talking to Kurou-Morou in Lower Jeuno. She asks for a crystal ball in order to tell your fortune. To do so, you need to get an Ahriman Lens and dip it in a pool in the Maze of Shakhrami.

Ahriman Lenses are dropped by Ahrimans (floating eye-type things, similar to that you kill with the dragon for Rank 3). You can find these in Ranguemont Pass, Beaucedine Glacier, Xarcabard and Castle Zvahl Baileys, and maybe other places as well. Lenses can drop in any of these places. This lens is Ex and cannot be traded or purchased from the Auction House.

Once you have the Lens, take it to the Maze of Shakhrami. The Rockwell is located at G-5 of the first map when entering from Tahrongi Canyon. It's easy to find without a map - just follow the left wall. Once you reach the Rockwell, trade the lens to it.

There's some debate over exactly how long it takes to turn the lens into a sphere, but somewhere between 2 minutes and 24 Earth hours later, you can return to withdraw the Divination Sphere by clicking on the Rockwell. You can leave the Maze during this time and come back later.

Return to Kurou-Morou and receive your reward. The reward is just fame and the ability to have your fortune read. If you get your fortune read on three separate days, talking to him on a fourth day will trigger the quest Never to Return.

Waiting around
# Apr 20 2004 at 3:24 AM Rating: Decent
Do you have to stay in the maze for the full 24 hours? Can I leave to do other stuff and come back, or at least log out? I really dont feel like having to farm for another lens if i lose this one.

This would be a Jeuno fame quest, and while its only reward is fame, it's a prereq quest for a couple of other quests, which all lead eventually to the Sleepga II quest.
need to?
# Mar 15 2004 at 12:33 PM Rating: Decent
after you get the thing from the Floating Eye do you HAVE TO return to Jeuno and talk to her??
or can you go straight to maze and put it in the fountain??
RE: need to?
# Jun 18 2005 at 7:29 PM Rating: Decent
No, you can just go straight to (Maze of Shakrami) and turn in ahriman lens to Rockwell.
Max Fame?

How do you tell if each quest results in higher fame?

What do you mean by max fame?

Just assume that each quest is going to give you some level of fame when you complete it. You can check your current fame standings within a city by talking to one certain NPC within each city. For Jeuno, for example, talk to the guy standing by the table just across from the Lower Jeuno magic shop.

And by max fame, I mean that I got the maximum level of fame in Jeuno after finishing that quest. although then again I'm not sure how close I was to start with.

As another quick note, once you get the crystal ball completed and have your fortune given a few times, you eventually have another quest open up when you come back to talk to him. The same holds true for the other fortune teller - once you get all of your tarut cards collected and have your compatability told a few times, eventually a new quest opens up from her as well.

So while the material rewards for this quest in the way of items or gil are, well, nil... you still get nice fame from it (this is the one that took me to max fame actually), plus you have another quest open up later, so it's all good.
Spotter's eye
# Feb 24 2004 at 8:26 PM Rating: Decent
Curious, do the ahriman at the rank 2 dragon fight drop these? I've fought Spotter a few times, but never managed to get a steal or a drop off of him. The beastiary on this site does have him labeled as one of the possible creatures to drop them.

No clue honestly. I haven't seen it from him either, and I don't know how they get their item info for this site - they might have just put those ahriman on the list simply because they're ahriman. Dunno.

For the record, the ones I've seen have come from the ahriman actually in the glacier. Haven't seen them come from Floating Eyes, but then I haven't fought that many of them - there are only like 2 or 3 in the one area that I know they pop at, in Ranguemont itself. While trying for your lens you can also pick up Ahriman Tears somewhat less rarely, a decent profit on the side.

I got one off one of the floating eye thingies in xarcabard while doing 55 cap quest so they aren't only gotten in glacier.

i can also confirm that i got the lens from the ones in the Glacier. it probably only drops from them. i actually got 2 in 3 kills.

Floating Eyes are tough and very tough to me at level 30.
a direct example
# Feb 15 2004 at 8:46 PM Rating: Default
One of the "eye-type" monsters that would drop it would be a "Floating Eye" in Ranguemont Pass, they are about half way to the glacier.

The eyes are conning too weak and occasionally easy prey low eva/def at lvl 48 with wep skill maxed.

Heads up: they use Petrify lvl 5 and a sick move that deals about 200-400 dmg called "Eyes on me"

Can this be bought in AH?

Fame needed
# Jan 17 2004 at 12:10 PM Rating: Good
To get this quest I needed the Jeuno fame:

"Your name is mentioned quite often"

Mendi is the NPC in lower jeuno, who tells fame, he is in the middle under an umbrella at the seaside.

Your Crystal Ball

1. Talk to Kurou-Morou in front of a fortune hut (F-7).

2. Contents - Make your own crystal ball from an Ahriman's Lens so that you can ask your fortune
for the day.

3. Obtain Arriman's lens from Eye type monsters (float eye, glacier eye, etc) in Ronguemont Pass,
then bring it back to Kurou-Morou. Then take it to a holy fountain in Shakrami Maze, and trade it
there. Wait for one vana d'iel day, and you can retrieve a Divination Sphere. Bring it back to
Kurou-Morou.

4. As a reward, he can read your fortune for the day.
