In-Game Text

Description

It starts by talking to Nenne iin the lower room of the 3rd house in Watchdog Alley. You will enter a cutscene where you learn about her illness.

Go to the upper room in the 1st house in Watchdog Alley. Read all 3 pages of the diary. Keep examining the diary till all pages are available. If you can't get to page three, you probably don't have enough fame.

Talk to Amaura in the 2nd house in Watchdog Alley. She will send you to find some Thyme Moss.

Head to Davoi and around F-9 you will find the Moss. It is to the left of the well.

Return to Amaura and give her the Moss. She will give you Cough Syrup.

Take the Cough Syrup back to Nenne. She will give you a Treasure Map. This leads you to a signpost in East Ronfaure, around H-6. Click on that and you end up with 3,000 Gil.

The Trader in the Forest

Speak with Abeaule in North San d'Oria at the Phoenix Inn.
Finish this quest, and then go back (i zoned) and speak to Abeaule.
He will mention something about cure a for a Cough. This leads to this quest.
You will view the key items in your conversation with Amaura. However; you will not find them in your inventory. The moss once retrieved, doesn't show up either. The Completed quest will show up in your quest log once finished.

Let me say here that this was tougher than the PLD flag quest. I think I should have a "Thyme Moss" flag now and be able to level my Moss character.

The ??? is under the ramp. I went under the ramp (sneak, invis) I positioned myself for the grab. Make sure there are no mobs on the other side of the fence. Like with the PLD flag lost soul at the well, I used another sneak pot to bring me out of invis, grabbed the thyme, shot up another invis as fast as I could.
I had to do "The Trader in the Forest", and then get the quest started by Abeaule before i could get the moss. I went the first time while doing the PLD, and I got some stupid message like "no sunshine here". drat. So the second time snagged the moss for me. Agam level 33 Ranger Hume Female.
These mobs were dc (lizards) to tough to VT. The pugels were DC no prob.
Still do not let sneak down, and keep invis for pugels and Orcs.
Thyme moss is a key item.

imho,

This is the west side of F-9, to the east of the well where you do the Paladin Flag quest (the extreme southwest part of Davoi).

You have to walk in the waterway to get there, and the coffer key types can see you, so invisible for everyone (they'll still aggro at 75).
To Cure A Cough

Um... has anyone else come across a glitch or error for this quest? I've completed The Medicine Woman quest and practically every other quest in Sandy for the exception of Rivalry but I can't seem to get this quest to start. I don't even get the first cutscene with Nenne, doesn't mention she's sick of anything.. just says something like "So what were we talking about?" and then supplies some options like her son and herself. I'd figure it's cause I don't have enough fame but according to the NPC, I have hero fame so I'm out of ways to figure out how to trigger this quest to start.

Glitch:
I talked to the old lady a few time no CS.
Run back to 1st house in the alley top floor read up to page 3 of the diary(if you can't get page 3 you need more fame).
Go next door to 2nd house and Amaura said Hmmm, Thyme moss to cure coughs.(or something to that effect).
I still didn't have this quest show up on my log but went to davoi anyways.
The ??? is @ F-9.
You will see a board going up to the top of the fence and a campfire. The ??? is south of the campfire under the board ramp. Do not go up it!!!

I got the Key Item Thyme moss took it back to Amaure and CS she made the Cough Syrup and gave it to me. (quest still not showing up on my current quest log) gave it to Nenne. I get my scroll and the quest finally shows up on my completed log.

If you can read page 3 in the diary just consider the quest active even though it won't show up in the log.

This quest is not worth the 3k reward by the time you can do it safely with out buying sneak oils and prisim powders needed at low lvl's or risking death. Very high lvl's can get agro from center island of davoi when running through the water there if not invisiable and the RDM AF1 NM spawns 10-20 feet away from the ??? if a rdm with his af1 quest active zones in to Davoi.

I just did this quest as 70 rdm trying to complete all of my sandy quests.

Well, Thanks for the info, but I have max fame everywhere, I did when i Initiated this quest and I have had max fame everywhere for over a year now, I confirmed to make sure but, Its definatley not fame preventing me from getting page 3, So, Whatever the issue with getting page 3 is.. It isnt my fame.. not quite sure what else to do at this point.. Thanks anyway...

Ah Ha! If you have accepted the quest "The Medicine Woman", it may be preventing you from getting the next quest =) That was my problem! Good luck!

Is this a passive Quest?
# May 25 2005 at 3:25 PM Rating: Decent
I have followed all directions and gotten the moss dialogue from Amaura but the Quest does not show up in my current Quests. Is this a passive Quest? I went into Davoi while doing the Pal Quest and clicked on the ??? but didn't get the moss. Anyone know what's up with this?

yeah this same thing happened to me - I talked to all of the right people but the quest did not show up in the current quest area - I did this about a month ago and I went to davoi anyways. I ended up seeing the ??? but when I tried to click on it, it did not work. I ended up walking too far up the ramp and was spotted by the orcs on the other side, slaughtered and killed after a brief but futile flee.

Anyways I hadn't had any reason to go back to Davoi until today. A young aspiring paladin needed some help traveling to the well so I lead her there. We got there and after the quest I decided to have another go at the Thyme Moss.

This time I avoided going on to the ramp completely. I walked under it and next to the ramp and clicked on the ??? on the ground.

This time it gave me the Thyme Moss despite the fact that the quest did not show up in my current quest area.

So to answer your question, if you've talked to the right people then yes, you should be able to get the Thyme Moss even if the quest does not appear to be activated.

Why it did not work for you? Perhaps you were standing on the ramp or were not close enough to the ??? on the ground. I believe this is why it did not work for me the first time.

Anyway i hope this helps!

I was in Davoi doing 3 quest all at once. It was my second trip to Davoi in my life, I very rarely go to the beastman strongholds. First time was for Mission 4.

Quests were "Tea With a Tonberry?", "A Knight's Test", and "To Cure a Cough". First stop was the NM, Hematic Cyst for "Tea With a Tonberry?", RDM54 and I took him down easily. Off to the well for PLD flag "A Knight's Test", got that. I didn't need Invis and Sneak around the NE area, near the well.

The moss for "To Cure a Cough" is very close to the well, turn 180 from the well and hug the right wall. You'll come to what looks like a dead end. Don't go up the ramp whatever you do, don't go up the ramp with Invis. I got about 1/4 the way up it then spotted the ??? underneath it. My RDM friend didn't however and stood at the top... lv58 Orcish Zerker Stunned her and there was nuthin she could do after that. I examined the ??? but didn't have the quest activated so blah...

I was all alone in Davoi. I was determined to walk out alive. To get out, I'd need to go past lv66 Orcish Farkillers (IT) and lv46 Orcish somethings (EP). I didn't have any Prism Powders (RDM was there!) so I was stuck-didley-uck. After checking the EP Orcs, I look at my map to get my bearings. Close map, turn to face the center fort area...

I see 2 Orcish Farkillers and an Orcish Dragoon charging at me. I panic and run toward the EPs. I stop and fire the Federation Stables Necklace. I spawn in Windurst Woods a dead man. A friendly passer by {/huh}s me and I /tell him "Excuse me... Could I possibly get a Raise II? >_<". Thankfully, Benediction (WHM65, gilseller?) was in the area and supplied me.

I'm going back for that moss. DRK55/NIN18. Go Tonko!

I have completed "Medicine Woman", and practically every other Sandy quest feasible for a 32whm/16blm to solo(and even a few that are totally nuts to try! :P), but I don't see this quest as "Current". Is it one of those that I've come to refer to as a "passive" quest; that is, a quest that never shows up anywhere at all until it's completed? I only ask because some friends and I are currently doing Job quests, and I thought this would be nice to pick up on our way through Davoi.

Please help...I found the well at F-9 but no other spots around or to the left that had a ??? or moss. I can select the well itself but that is it. I also did see a ??? down a small path in front of a gate\fence past the actual well area - is that it?

Where is the moss actually?

Help is very appreciated as I had to warp out and gave up trying to find.

A Fourth Page...?

Hey guys... a quick question...

I'm not sure if anyone else has come across this but I just realised it like an hour ago:

When you go to the upper room in the 1st house in Watchdog Alley (G-7) to read the diary (the same diary that is used in the "To Cure a Cough" quest)... there is actually now a 4th page.

What I found intriguing is that the fourth page refers to the Uleguerand Range (one of the new CoP areas)... and also refers to a Count and a Royal Knight named "Antreneau". I've looked all over Sandy for this knight for further clues (including the RK quarters at the palace) but no dice.

Does anybody know what this quest is about? Is it a quest that eventually gives the map to Uleguerand Range? Or is a quest that is realted to the NPC in central Carpenters Landing?

** Please note that any info on this NPC in Central Carpenters Landing will also be appreciated...his name is Guillont (sp?) or something, and I've seen a party of JP players fighting a mob named Overgrown Ivy beside him. However, when I click on him, all he repeatedly says is: "Begone Trespasser! This land belongs to the Knights Mi-- ... this land belongs to Count Teulemune!"

Has anyone found out how to proceed with these quests? And most importantly, does anyone know where I can find this Royal Knight Antreneau? I'm guessing that since the diary hints at him being a Royal Knight, he might be posted at one of the Outposts? (TKs mainly stay at home and RKs mainly fight beyond the city borders)

Thanks in advance everyone.

EXPLOITING THE SUMMERFEST! YAY!

There's an excellent trick that can be used to complete this quest with the greatest of ease - even while you're level one. Right now the Summerfest event is going on, and admidst all the festivities and fireworks and fans is also a little bit of simple (and perfectly moral) exploitation that can make you some easy gil.

In this particular case, you simply do the Summerfest quest in the Davoi dungeon (which I've always gone to when I partied with a Mithra, I being a male hume), and go to the spot at (F-9), then take off invisible and get yourself the Thyme Moss. it's as easy as that. This way you don't have to have a full party of High-levels to succeed! Good luck!

Unfortunately, it seems that you can only do this if you are a Mithra or a male Hume.

Also, my condolences to anyone who cannot do this after the end of the Summerfest event.

And lastly, this same technique is also an excellent way to complete the Paladin flag quest, "A Knight's Test". Anyway, enjoy.

It appears you MUST do the medicine woman quest before you do this one. So you may as well do mission 5/7, last part of the paladin quest, and this one to get it all done at the same time.

On the way, if you wish, you can do the grimey sign post one and the purchase of arms one while you're in the area!

The diary is in the first house in the Watchdog Alley, not Nenne or Amaura's houses.
Many Agrros
# Dec 18 2003 at 2:50 PM Rating: Default
Best way to get there is by going west in the river path. Pugils only agrro if you dont have sneak on or low lvled. The "???" for the moss is to the left of the well for the paladin quest, there is an orc camp there so u gotta have invisible just to be safe. I did this as a lvl 42 paladin/war. And the first time I ran in from the land way and was chased by 30+ orc zerkers etc. Used invincible.....5 ft from zone, lame cursemaker put me to sleep, orcs mobbed me...Lvl 42 paladin owned....

the thyme moss ??? is located at F - 9 . not F-7

It is near the paladin quest well ..
follow the river west with sneak . then invis past the orcs ..

F-9 is correct, got this with invis and sneak at 26, but it was still pretty tricky -- orc was right next to the thyme moss, got it, and used instant warp scroll. Had 36 hp left. :P

The quest actually sorta starts with Nenne next door (it's her diary). Talk to her, go look at her diary, then go next door and talk to Amaura about medicine.

An Orcish Impaler guards the area in front of the ???. But that's not what you should be afraid of, on the other side of the fence is an Orcish Zerker. If you hear a snort/grunt (aggroed sound effect), run for your life or warp the hell outta there.

Thyme Moss is the same as Tachijakougoke. Just a translation. Anyone found this stuff on the AH? I didn't see a listing anywhere on Midgards AHs.

[edit] I should also say that my guildmate and I had to go to the 2nd floor NEXT DOOR to find the diary. Seems the neighbor stole it I guess....

I'm betting the thyme moss is a key item, since the text Amaura said was in blue, not the usual green associated with item names.

Which means, you'd probably actually have to go to Davoi to get it.

When i talked to Amaura she said she wanted "Thyme Moss" is this the same thing as the Tachijakougoke?
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 18 2003 at 7:36 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The min lvl should be at least 15 since davoi is recommended for at least 20. i know that depending upon job, you could do it lower than 20.
