Annoying
# Jun 26 2004 at 11:53 AM Rating: Decent
The same exact thing has been happening to me I have the Expansion installed and I have all 3 keys. But Guddal (the guy who gives you the quest) won't take them or even offer me the oppertunity for the airship pass. This really ticks me off. Is there an alternate place that a level 25 can train to level 30?

If you have not done so, register the expansion. This will activate the new areas. If you have, then I am guessing you just need fame.

Just in case I would check the obvious first and see if your Expansion was installed properly. Only a thought. Its really the only thing I could think of. I personally got the quest offered having only done two quests in Jeuno and not terribly outstanding fame in other cities.
Kazham pass

I tried the Ghelsba one first and I got the key on my third Orc (I guess Treasure Hunter really does help eh?)

For the next two I have a Linkshell buddy help me out, so I hope i'll get both keys by the end of the week

I did it with a 60whm. I ran around and grabbed an Orc/Quadav/Yagudo with poison and dragged it back.

Giddeus dropped on the second yag, but Pal and Ghelsba took much longer.

At 24, almost all the key-dropper mobs conned easy or DC to me.

I too cannot trade the keys with Guddal.

My mate has done it no problems, Guddal told him what he needed etc. He doesn't even tell me what I have to do.

Its really bugging me now.

I'm lvl25, rank 3 and very upset :p

Ghelbsa
# Jun 03 2004 at 12:17 PM Rating: Decent
So there i was in Ghelbsa Fort fighting off an orcish fighter when all of a sudden i get the key on my first fight. Then I start running back down from and all of a sudden a train of 20+ orcs are on me. So i figured the only thing i had to do was zone i was near the top of the fort to add so i picked up a few other orc stragglers on the way down it was pretty amazing i had every type of low level orc just below fight and cursemaker on me it was hell i made it out with just 20 health and almost died of poison but i think that is a heros tail if ive heard of one or maybe im just a loser.

In order to get Giddeus chest key you have to kill yagudo votarys, theologists and priests... It says as you look it up here that its max level range is 30. Is this true because if it is i gotta wait longer to solo these things...I level 23 redmage... well thanks for answer

I just lost about 2 hrs of my life trying to get a key! Palborough, none the less...

In any case my friend and I were playing and we didnt get any keys, and then we realized that neither of us had Spoken to Guddal (DOH)!

Anyways I was trying to get the key from the Grotto and started shouting if someone would pair up with me to get it, not 5 seconds later and 2 feet away from the exit and by being there only like 20 seconds this guy invites me to his party and says "cast lot on the key", and I did.

I saved myself 3 hours playtime at the very least!

You don't need to have the quest activated to get keys. They are perfectly normal drops. Just very random.
Palborough and soloing
# Apr 27 2004 at 5:07 PM Rating: Default
First off, if you've got the Palborough Mine map, you're going to want to head to the SW corner of the third floor (top of the elevator). Not sure about the <pos>, but the Brass, Copper, and Old Quadav spawn regularly there. Everywhere between the western-most bridge and the Burning Circle zone.

As for soloing these things, your milage is going to vary greatly based on level. I'm a 24thf/12mnk and I could probably take down one or two of the key dropping types (not at the same time) before needing to rest. You might be able to do it successfully with a Warrior or Monk main job, but anything else and you'll probably need a party.

I was a 24war/12mnk and I successfuly got the key after killing my 2nd Copper in the Eastern dead-end of the 3rd floor.

I got aggro'd by many Quadavs on my way out and, being impatient to exit, was killed in the elevator. A small price to pay for the key and bloodporting back to my HP after only spending 20 mins on the quest.

Be sneaky and take your time. A 24war can do this easily.

Airship Pass
# Apr 13 2004 at 8:50 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a level 26 White Mage, and I'm really annoyed because Guddal in the airship port won't give me the quest, I talked to everyone that I know that's completed it, and they said that it didn't matter rather he gave it to you or not, to just trade him the keys, so I spent a few hours and got them all, and he now won't let me trade them to him. My level 53 friend was saying that I possibly don't have enough fame, [When I check my fame in Windurst it says "Everyone knows my name"] but I don't think fame has much to do with this quest. Any ideas as to why it's not working?

This quest is not fame related. It is however one of the new quests from the Rise of the Zilart. Maybe you didnt register Rise of the Zilart, which could explain this.
RE: Airship Pass
# Apr 16 2004 at 1:26 PM Rating: Decent
Windurst fame and Jeuno fame aren't the same. You might need to do a few quests in Jeuno to get your Jeuno fame up in order to get the quest...
RE: Airship Pass
# Apr 18 2004 at 1:19 PM Rating: Decent
It can be hard to do any Jeuno quests at first because they all seem to require a certain level of fame as well.

The new Strategy guide says that your base level Jeuno fame is determined by the lowest fame from Sandoria, Bastok, and Windurst, so if you have zero fame in any of those three nations, you have base level fame of zero in Jeuno.
RE: Airship Pass
# Jul 18 2004 at 6:00 AM Rating: Decent
Nonsense. I have practically zero fame in Windurst (I'm pretty sure that I haven't done enough quests to have the fame NPC change what he says about me), I have done less than 5 quests in Jeuno, and the fame NPC there calls me "Lord Reynard" because I have fame maxed in Bastok and Sandy from running Bohyada Moss to Melyon in Selbina.

Maybe it's *average* fame of the 3 cities. Like I said, I've hardly done squat anywhere but San d'Oria and Selbina, and I am able to get all the Goobiebag quests from Bluffnix. Doesn't that take maxed out Jeuno fame?
Doh!!

Alright, this is pissing me off, alot. I have all 3 keys. I have the Rise of the Zilart Expansion installed AND registered, and still no airship pass. I think i might have to uninstall and reinstall BOTH the base and the expansion in order to get to Kazham.

Which, is a good and a bad thing. It means i'll be level 30 in no time flat, but it also means im gonna have to wait around 13249712359712 59235632875678652319487123479281354275 hours for the patch to re-download and install. Uggghhh....

Unless you have any other ideas on what went wrong, I fear this is what I must do. They should release a CD-ROM containing the patch for a small fee, it would save some people alot of time, like me, for example.
RE: Doh!!
# Jul 05 2004 at 9:46 AM Rating: Excellent
OK so i had the same problem. go to port jeuno, look at your map. there should be 4 airship docks. each is labeled. there are 3, one for each major city, and one for Kazham. If there is a blank dock they your Expansion is not registered. To fix this log in to POL. Go to Games ----> FFXI -----> Content ID ------> Register ID (this is in the left box titeled expanded services. then enter in your registration code, then your all set.
RE: Doh!!
# Mar 29 2004 at 10:18 AM Rating: Decent
This quest does NOT register as a quest even with zilart expansion registered. You must aquire the keys, and trade them all to him.

Have you tried contacting Square-Enix support? And this means more than sending an email their way, which will more than likely yield you a form letter pointing you to whatever automated-response webforms they have set up.

How about calling for a GM? Show him that you have all three keys and that you're still not getting the airship pass. They're supposed to help 'unbreak' stuff if something is really wrong.

Either of these options will take you far less time than a fresh install.

Alright, I'll keep that in mind. However, I was trying to remember the whole chain of unfortunate events that occured when I bought this game for christmas. Long story short, i needed a new video card, but I had already uninstalled the base game, but forgot about the expansion pack. When i got it, i simply reinstalled the base game, ignoring the expansion already installed.

I uninstalled the expansion, and reinstalled it, and I'm right now waiting for the patch to finish downloading.

Thank god for new episodes of Chappelle's Show and South Park.

i dont know if this works but find a friend with broadband who already updated then do a direct copy of to be updated .dat files. the reason why i dont think it'll work is because of the windows user registration. however it might work because POL can check whether or not all files POL and FFXI files are up to date.

Remember its also to begin the Samauri quest. Also a lot depends on luck. I git the giddius key by accident when I was ding Journey abroad when the Votary agroed us, and I've been killing orcs in Yugot grotto forever with no luck, and I am a WAR/THF. I also had to go through 78 ghouls to get a skull, so trust me I know how you feel. Its like holocrons, krayt pearls, and force crystals in SWG. At least its easier to become a SAM than a jedi (I hope).

and it was *horrible*. Getting the Giddeus key was easy, because we had a high level help us and we basically spread out and mowed the place down.
Then we went to the mines, minus the high level but with a 30 WHM who was also looking for the key. We don't know where to go, spend an hour searching before we locate the right Quadavs, and in the three hours that followed we got only two keys before I had to leave. Thankfully, I got one of the two.
Now, here is my word of advice to any level 25 or under looking for this key? Kill any EP Quadav you find along the way. Either that or have a RDM or a WHM with sneak to cast on you. One Quadav isn't bad...but they're ridiculously easy to train, and thirty minutes after one diaed me, I got slammed by about twenty Quadavs that had all decided to aggro, most of them too weak to be worthwhile. Took me out and our poor little BLM. Thank god the WHM had raise.

Now we just need to locate the Ghelsba key...I can only pray it doesn't turn into another disaster.

Ooh, yeah, ouch. This happened to me while killing time on my mission 2-3 to kill the dragon. I was with a higher level friend and we were running around killing Quadavs looking for keys... A Veteran used Howl and I thought "man, good thing there aren't any others around to link" since I've seen first hand an Orc using howl and another one joined the brawl after hearing it.
So...yeah. Five minutes later I'm still in the same room and a huge mob of Quadavs come rushing in, way too many to even count and they all were targeting /me/. Yeah, I went down in five seconds... Luckily there was a strong whm to raise me. My friend was convinced someone else had trained them to us, but I couldn't convince him it was because of the howl. I mean if it wasn't that, then why else did they all attack me? It was pretty funny looking back on it, I remember thinking "So this is what it's like to get gangbanged by turtles..."

After you install Rise of the Zilart expansion, you ***MUST*** register the expanded service content ID in the FFXI main menu of PlayOnline. It uses the registration key in your manual.
