Summary

Phara needs some sword grip material to repair her son's sword. The material can be found in a tent in Davoi. Once repaired, Phara wants to give the sword to her grandson.

Walkthrough

Begin this quest by speaking to Phara, who is standing at J-9 in front of the residential district of Bastok Mines. She will request some sword leather.

Next, head to Davoi to find some sword leather. Search the orc tents at K-9 and K-10 to find a hidden flap, which randomly appears throughout the area. When you examine the hidden flap, two notorious monster orcs -- Gavotvut and Barakbok -- will appear. After defeating the orcs, you must search the area again for the hidden flap. Examine it again to receive your sword leather.

Return to Bastok Mines and trade the leather to Phara. Wait one game day and speak to her again, and she will give you a key item, Yasin's Sword, and ask you to give it to her grandson Naji.

Find Naji, who is standing outside the president's office in the Metalworks. Talk to him to receive your Razor Axe.

Just solod this as PLD66/WAR33
Fight took about 5-6 mins from clearing the possible links for TP to finishing off the 2nd NM.
Started off with the DRK NM and took him down without too much trouble. WAR NM died even faster than the DRK, so for people getting ready to do this i suggest starting with the DRK NM first.
now to go hand in the key item and wait an hour.

I tried to do this with my girlfriend the other day and when she clicks the Hide Flap, she gets the message "You search the tent but find nothing." and no NMs spawn. The message repeats when clicked again. The Hide Flap does not move either. She's a 40+ WAR/NIN and has started the quest. Any ideas on why this is happening? In advance, thank you. ^^
Thanks

just soloed these two bad boys as 62THF/31WHm.

game plan was simple, DE one of the orcs and use sleep bolts to keep the other one at bay. Well that plan went out the window mighty quick, sleep bolts rarly give the sleep affect on these guys, possibly a feature of all NMs, but to be honest this was the first timed i even tried useing sleep bolts on an NM. another downer that made it's attention rather quickly was Gavotvuts insane hp's. my first DE hit it for 400 damage, but didnt even take his hp down by 10%.

After about 5 mins my hp and Gavotvuts looked about the same, both really low, i had 0 mp, havn't even touched Barakbok, and the iceing on the cake was i stupidly did a range attack on a near by lizzy, thinking it was barakbok, however sleepbolts worked just fine on it. the thing that saved my life, was i remebered energy drain, just in the nick of time too, and Barakdok has plenty of mp to spare, once i remeberd energy drain the rest of the battle was cake.

some helpfull hints, don't waste you're time with sleep bolts, bring for links, but no good the NM's. and also, if you dont' have aspir or energy drain, or any other mp stealer, kill Barakdok first, he died about 5 times faster (and that was with me energy draining and not DEing), also i noticed he hits harder.

My Tactics
# Mar 22 2005 at 3:49 PM Rating: Decent
I did this a couple of weeks ago with my static party which is setup like this:
lvl 40 War/Mnk(me)
lvl 42 Mnk/Sam
lvl 42 Thf/Nin
lvl 41 Whm/Smn
lvl 41 Rdm/Blm
lvl 40 Blm/Smn

We were short the Blm/Smn, so we had only a 5 man party.

Here is what we did; our initial tactic was to have the Red Mage elemental seal and sleep the Drk Ors,...this failed so we had to resort to our back up plan which was to having our thief "kite" the Drk orc in a tight circle around the camps where the tent flaps spawned. The rest of us concetrated on the War. The mnk two-houred once I deemed my hate control safe while rdm nuked and played back-up healer to our whm. Meanwhile the thf/nin lead the drk on a merry chase keeping his hp high with a combination of bloody bolts and utsusemi.
Towards the end of the fight with the war ork, our red mage hit convert followed by our whm two-houring benediction. This allowed the whm to rest while the rdm shouldered main healing duties until whm regained mp. The war ork was dead shortly after and I grabbed the Drk off of our thf and it was all gravy after that

Purely lucked out, here. I went to Davoi expecting to die... I'd never been there before and the sheer concentration of DC orcs in one spot was disconcerting, to say the least... then something wonderful. 75 MNK and 75 WHM appeared, killed everything in front of the Hide Flap in several seconds - they were apparently farming the orcs in the area.

I noticed rather quickly that they were Japanese, so I asked them through the translator if they could help me with my [Warrior] [Artifact] [Axe] [Quest], Kenbo the Monk, agreed to help me and invited me into the group. After a few seconds of struggling with the translator, we got it figured out that the necessary NPC item was only off to the left of the first clearing. He asked me if there were any NMs to be fought, and I replied that there were two and I had to spawn them for the quest. He grinned and ran over to the Hide Flap while the WHM backed me up. I entered the tent to nothing, and came back out just as Barakbok and Gatotuvut [I believe that's their names...] spawned. They chewed through my Utsusemi shadows in less than two seconds, I'm not sure how...

On my third shadow, Kenbo sprang into action, attacking both at once to gain hate. I never got touched again during the INSANELY short battle. He popped off an Asuran Fists WS every five or so seconds for far over 1000 damage, taking the WAR first. Halfway through, it used Mighty Strikes and he hit Hundred Fists for overkill, every strike hitting for more than 150 damage, punctured with an incredible Asuran Fists attack at intervals. The WAR NM soon fell, and he opened up on the DRK with Asuran Fists and finished it off with the rest of his Hundred Fists 2HR. The whole fight took at most a minute. He hit Hundred Fists and it didn't wear off until after the fight.

So, WAR AF1 was acquired at 0:31 after I got back home to Bastok and spoke to Phara and later on to Naji [Nice cutscene], and I'm back to leveling my clearly gimped subjob.

I've have now tried this 3 times as of a couple minutes ago. I followed the solo formula verbatum the first time as 40war/nin, and got aggroed by the DRK NM while invisible when I ran past him on the way back. Seems they gave the NMs TrueSight/See Invisible recently.

Second try I went as 31thf/nin, didn't get aggro but they despawned while I was resting a bit so that a damage spell wouldn't kill me during perfect dodge. Flap was in the same place as before. I didn't get through the flap when I checked it, one of the warmachines and an orc got me immediately.

Third try, again thf/nin and no reraiser this time (price has gotten to 12k, they were 2k a few months ago), flee around the camp then perfect dodge and check the flap. Again, the flap was in the exact same place as when i spawned the NMs. It said "Event skipped".

Don't know if I did this wrong or if its been fixed so you can't stealth solo it anymore. Either way, I can handle putting this off a bit longer.

EDIT: Did this last night using the solo method and it worked. There were a couple of 60+'s in the area and they might have killed the NMs, don't know because I didn't check.

An alternative approach to this quest:

I asked for "a little help" getting my AF1 a month or so ago, and... well. My LS can be a little crazy about these things. We ended up with two-thirds of an alliance:

- BLM60
- RDM64
- BRD71
- PLD58
- WHM64
- SAM58

- THF65
- DRK61
- PLD59
- WHM58
- SMN64
- WAR40

Our RDM is more than a little crazy, so he decided (without asking) that he should make the event a little more challenging, so he rounded up roughly three-quarters of Davoi in a train that would make Amtrak proud, then and told me to spawn the NMs. It took 5-10 minutes to kill everything -- f*ck you very much Odjin -- but no one died and a good time was had by all. We roasted marshmallows too, as I recall.

So I say pooh! to doing this quest with stealth and clever tactics: the obvious answer is to bring a fleet of friends to annihilate the Orcish population of Davoi, and get your useful-for-three-levels AF Axe.

After spamming in Jeuno for help 2-3 times without luck,
I went to Davoi and try there. This is the best way cause many hi-lvls farm there. So I ask a War75, and a Rdm65 they say yes. We went to K-9 and I asked a passing bye Drg62 to help he said yes too (I was afraid of someone hi-lvl die for me). I spawned the 2 nms the War75/Whm37 (farm?) really raped them. Too easy pawning, Thank you guys!
I am just that good.

Easy as pie. Got a tele to Bastok, took my stable collar with me. Grabbed a scroll of reraise, sub NIN,
and Tonko'ed up. Head south from Davoii entrance, you'll stumble upon a camp with Beastriders and such, tab around til you hit the tent flap. un-invis, check it, and wait til the two NM's aggro to you. Train the whooooole camp as far as you can away, and when you die, wait a few seconds til they start to move away. Reraise, re-invis, and run on back. All told it took me about 3 minutes in Davoi to get the item. Warped back to Bastok and talked to Phara just before midnight, zoned inot my Mog House, waited about thirty seconds (yay ^^) and got the Sword, went back into Mog House, zoned into the Metal Works, gave the item to Phara's husband, reverse the process, and got my AF1. Solo the whole way, entire thing took me about 20 minutes.

I went there as 73PLD/30WHM and raped them no problem.

I cast Blink and Stoneskin on myself, rested to full MP then spawned them.
I made sure I had Regen on me during the fight and I didn't really need to heal much after that as I was getting 6 HP per tick and they were missing me most of the time.

A few Vorpal Blades and Swift Blades later they both dropped to my feet. Lol XD

Pretty easy guys, don't worry about it.
I am positive any 2 Lv50+ jobs can duo this.

ReveredAnimal: "...gave Barakbok a 700 dmg spirits within (300 tp)..."

I can say this with full certainty that this is impossible.
You say you were a Lv63 PLD at the time and listed your equipment. You did not use Pigeon earrings, Bomb Queen ring etc. to boost your HP up whatsoever. And furthermore you were only level 63. So with this in mind it would be impossible for you to get a 700 damage Spirits Within.

With my Level 73 Hume PLD and with all my HP gear I get my HP to 1400+ and the most I have ever done using Spirits Within is 663 damage.
So you being 10 whole levels lower than me and not having equipped HP+ gear there is absolutely no way you could have reached a higher HP mark than me which therefore means you could not have achieved a damage of 700.

That is all.

Level40 solo (ninja stealth)

I would just like to confirm that you can solo this quest. Here's how it went for me:

I went in as a lvl40 war/nin, used ninjitsu invisible and found the first tent flap. I then scouted round for a safe place to draw the NMs to. I chose the little loop that runs around the back of the camp. There were some EP war lizards there (no aggro) and one EP Orc, who spotted me during an invisible recast, so I had to take him out. Turned out to be a tough EP, as he gave me 45xp and left me in the red.

After recoving from that, I used a scroll of re-raise, put up my shadows, put on invis, went back to the tent flap and activated it. As soon as the NMs spawned, I ran back to my safe spot, and then stood there waiting to die, in a manner that would have made Obi Wan proud ;)

Once the NMs were satisfied I was dead, they and their entourage wandered off, but I had foolded them, my re-raise scroll meant I was only playing-dead and could rise from the grave! Again, shadows up, invis on, and ran out to find the next tent flap.

Suffering from death sickness, and so low on HP, I was worried I would not have time to activate it, and the thunder elemental hovering around threatened to catch me recasting invis if I tried to heal up. So after some feeble attempts at HP recovery, I took the risk and went for the flap.

I was spotted immidiately, and a crossbow bolt took out one of my shadows, so I hastily searched the tent (spamming enter) and found the sword grip material!

My remaining shadows soon fell, and the entire camp fell upon me. They were too late. I had my prise, and they were just giving me a free port back to Jeuno!

If you don't mind taking an XP hit, I recommend this ninja stealth method of stealing from the Orcs. Thanks to those who previously posted this method!

RE: Level40 solo (ninja stealth)
# Feb 21 2005 at 9:22 AM Rating: Decent
Well this should be easy enough, unfortunatly i died twice. I went in as War/Nin 46/23 and did everyhting Mutleyx x suggested. after reraise i had to throw up nin inviso because of an orc who wandered to my safe spot. I found the 2nd tent flap no problem but 3 orcs stood next to the flap. I went behind the tent well out of sight and decided to put up ninja shadows so as to hav enough time to touch the flap due to low hp because of sickness as i was putting inviso back up an orc who wasnt even in line of sight came around the tent and took me out before I could get to the flap. As I am not one to give up (having solo'd most of the first 4 ranks) I returned and got everything set back up. I touched the flap headed for my safe spot and waited to die. The warrior nm kept missing me and the other wasnt hitting for much and it took a while to die. I then noticed i had no reraise. On further inspection i found the scroll had expired 3 hits before the NM's took me out. After attempting twice and my ls members telling me to saty out of Las Vegas (no luck) a 60 and 75th lvl RDM came to raise and help me complete quest. It took 33 mins for them to show and they raised me.
I pit up shadows, they cast inviso i found 2nd flap and no orcs were present ( due to 7oth lvl PLD who had cleared area. I touched flap to get the material, the NM's respawned, the 75th lvl RDM lost hid it connection and the 60th lvl was punching escape macro due to a server wide lag problem that had 1037 gm calls. She made it out I died again and she tractor'd and raised me. This solo idea is a good one but everything needs to go right and a little luck will help.

lesson learned.
Patience and do not get over confident. I should have gone back to safe spot to rebuff in the first Battle, and I would have done it np. 2nd battle dont worry about how many orcs are in front of the tent cause you need to be take out as soon as you get to safe spot had I just walked up popped off inviso and touched flap not caring about the camp aggro my scroll would not have expired. The 3rd try well just remember the quest does reset if you don't get to 2nd flap soon as the NM's respawned. and maybe your server won't crash during NM battle. My freinds wont let me solo this now and we have apt going in 2 days so i guess ill have af1. I want todo this solo but don't want to hurt my pt's feelings. The PLD 2 hour would be perfect for this but better for the 2nd flap then the first.
Thanks Mutley for the direction and I hope everyone continues tto have as moch fun as I do.
thanks

This is amazingly easy to solo with any low-lvl job. I used the same strategy that I used in solo'ing my MNK AF2.

Once the quest is activated by Phara in Bastok Mines get a scroll of Instant Reraise and head to Davoi with a low-lvl job. Make sure to have Prism Powder and Silent Oil with you. You'll mainly need the Prism Powder for the orcs.

Once in Davoi find the Tent Flap and then find a safe place to use the scroll of Instant Reraise. After using the scroll go spawn the NM's by inspecting the tent and then get to the safe place. It's preferrable to use a PLD or THF for the 2hr when spawning the NM's.

Once in the safe place let the orcs kill you and wait until they are all away and it's safe to reraise yourself. Apply Prism Powder again and find the Tent Flap. It will have moved from the original location. There is no need to wait for sickness to leave, just find Tent Flap and examine it again for the Sword Gripe Material.

Once you have obtained the material head back to Bastok to talk to Phara again. He will then have you wait 1 VD day (1 earth hour) until speaking with him again to obtain the Key Item Yasin's Sword. You will then need to talk to Naji in Metalworks (outside the President's Office) to obtain your WAR AF1.

BTW, I used a lvl 2 PLD to solo this.

63pld/25nin, wasnt very hard at all. I used DD gear, amemit mantle, spike earrings and necklace, sarashi (enhanced duel weield), two yag drinks, meat mith, veneerer ring, sun ring, and I duel wielded a gluttony sword and a ******* sword.

Saved up about 200 tp killing orcs around the flap. Took the drk first and save my TP, gave Barakbok a 700 dmg spirits within (300 tp) as soon as he used blood weapon at about 50% hp, then proceded to slash them to pieces with my swords, faught Gavotvut and used invincible when he used mighty strikes. Keeping shadows up wasnt too hard because they missed a lot.It was pretty easy. Had 956 hp and 2 mp left over.
